As someone who is super interested in learning SEO, this was one of the most recommended books on Amazon. While it has _a lot_ of good things going for it, the drawbacks are what bother me the most.

— Book is updated for April 2015, yet refers to links that have been dead for years. ex: Mentions using moz.com/directories to get your link into “reputable” directories but that link has been dead for at least 2.5 years.
— Mentions ifhtne.com, also dead since 2014
— Inconsistent formatting within the ebook itself
— Inconstant use of URL formatting ex: randomly uses http://domain.com vs domain.com.
— Some of the services he hawks shady as hell i.e. marketsamurai.com, which wants you to download software that is not cross-compliant (i’m on a mac, it’s PC only) AND is cripple wear (only good for X days before you buy), forces you to register for the site to get said software. Additionally, taking the previous lessons, marketesamurai.com doesn’t even practice good SEO
— Under the Social Media chapter, breaks down FB and Twitter, then later mentions concentrating on Google+ without breaking it down until you get to the “other” social media networks section
— Under Social Media Analytics, mentions viralheat.com, which is no longer personal but now enterprise only with no free window to use, only access to a demo.
— Sproutsocial.com (also under Social Media Analytics) is now $59/mo not $39/mo
— Under web analytics, recommends crazyegg.com for heat mapping, but fails to mention crazyegg.com requires you to login with your Google account.
— Spends a lot of time going over the Google algorithm updates from 2013 and 2014, briefly mentioning the 2015 updates (of which there have been four)
— A lot of the sites he recommends for additional SEO info do not practice the basic SEO themselves, SO. There is that.
— Waffles if Social Media helps with rankings or not and then says, "Well, it could be helpful" Several SEO professionals (like Rand Fishkin from Moz.com) repeatedly state how much Social Media is important to your rankings, ESPECIALLY Google+. If you post on Google+ frequently, your rankings go up.

Great SEO Book

I have an MBA in marketing and there are so many scam and spam business books out that I'm never sure if I'm going to get any value out of it. This one is spot on and makes great suggestions that small business owners can actually use. Lots of links, references and information packed into an easily read format. Loved it

I read the 2017 version, not the 2014 version, but the book had some good reminders and lots of resources. Most of the info, I'd picked up from seminars, conferences, and industry blogs over the years, so there wasn't a lot of ground breaking info, but it was well-organized and easy to read. A good refresher.

Finding books like this one is exactly why I'm happy to pay for kindled unlimited

Imagine searching for a chest full of gold only to found an entire cavern filled with precious jewels and coins. You only came prepared to carry back a chest, but now you have to figure out how to haul back all these valuables.

That was my experience with this book. I expected it to be a quick 200 page read with some valuable nuggets of info but instead it was page after page of resources that required further syntopical reading. I was pleasantly surprised, but also a bit overwhelmed to retain all the information.

Demarcation SEO & SEA: These are the differences

The different areas of SEO
SEO (search engine optimization) can be divided into different areas:

Keywording: This is about determining the most important key terms (keywords) on which the website should then be optimized.
Technical SEO: This is all measures that ensure that the Google algorithm can read and understand the content of the page.
Onpage SEO: This affects the components that are implemented directly on the page: For example, meaningful meta information, internal links and enriching the page with multimedia content (such as videos) ensure a better ranking.
Mobile SEO: More and more people are accessing the Internet with mobile devices such as smartphones. It is therefore important that the website is optimized for mobile display.
Editorial content: The Google algorithm recognizes better and better whether a page offers useful content for the user. Therefore, high quality content is a must.
Offpage SEO: This is primarily about external links. The number and quality of externally linked pages can have an impact on the organic ranking.
Voice Search SEO: More and more users make their search queries by voice. Voice Search changes search behavior and places new demands on a website. Voice Search SEO relies on content and technical optimizations for voice search.
 
Important SEO KPIs
KPI stands for Key Performance Indicator, in German: key performance indicator. The success of SEO measures can be measured using the KPIs. These are the most important key figures:

Clickthrough rate
Keyword ranking
Loading speed
Search engine traffic
Bounce rates
Time spent on the page
 

The goals of SEO
The goal of search engine optimization is to bring more visitors to the website to be optimized via organic search from Google and Co., so to speak to improve Google results. In order to achieve this goal, the status quo of the KPIs should first be determined in order to then improve them via targeted SEO measures.

Author does a wonderful job in sharing information in a succinct and easy to follow manner. Chapters and concepts are relatively short and to the point. Not much fluff. Book also contains a lot of links that are helpful in any SEO campaign. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who would like to learn more about SEO.

it was not a perfect and useful book at all , and if u spend one or two hours in the internet by looking to MOZ you can find better way to understand SEO , so i think two star is very good for this cheap book

Comprehensive Coverage of SEO

Book is ideal for getting a more in-depth understanding of SEO concepts and techniques. Current through 2020 with thoughts about what’s ahead. Explanations are clear and understandable. It would be helpful if the reader understands how websites work but even the more technical explanations provide enough references if additional clarification is needed.

Good information, but ...

I have no problem with the information contained in this book. The author has done quite a masterful job in his presentation of one of the more difficult, intricate aspects of website design and management. Indeed, it would demand several careful, thoughtful readings to absorb the information to the degree necessary for bringing a website to the level of optimum performance necessary for smooth, profitable functionality.

The three-star ranking is based upon the lack of evidence that the manuscript came anywhere close to a proofreader or, if so, the proofreader was completely careless, overpaid, or some combination of the two. The most egregious oversight was the consistent treatment of "Google" as a plural noun rather than the collective noun it most clearly is. Perhaps a star should be added for consistency, but having to contend with that error throughout the book negates any such notion. There are also many run-on sentences and other errors that defy the careful proofreading as sadly absent. (Incidentally, I cannot believe that Google considers itself to be plural; if so, shame on Google.)

Basically, a waste of time and money.
To begin with - in my humble opinion - a beginner could not do SEO after reading it. If a book's subtitle says '...Learn search engine optimization...' I expect to also find the basics of SEO. This is not the case, in my opinion.
On page 77 there is the 'The dirty little secret no one wants to tell you about link building' chapter.
That secret would be '...there is no single best kind of link...' [italics in original]. Then, on page 78 it is written '...High-quality, relevant links are much stronger than links from low-quality, unrelated sites...'
Apart from the seeming contradiction, would that be a secret? Everyone dealing with SEO knows a link by the BBC improves dramatically the website SEO, while a low quality one could even get your websites penalized.
In my opinion, the book is of little use to both beginners and advanced users.
When on the book's cover it is written 'Includes free SEO check list' I expect to find such a list, not a link to a website. I bought a paperback, not a kindle.

If you are going to read this book in 2014, this is great read. If some of these SEO Strategy /s , seems outdated or doesn't work perfectly, it's because of technology evolutions that has happened in last 6 years. But I still give kudos to the author, her writing style defines the depth of her SEO knowledge and her love for SEO Marketing. This is main reason, we added this book to our library at YashaaGlobal. We still use some of these strategies to our Jacksonville SEO plans.

Very good book

Mastering SEO
Not for beginner, but great to know it, a lot of useful information about D TO Z SEO, A.B.C for beginner, but the author talk a lot on using LINKS & websites .. She can better go deeply inside, because as what she said: Its not easy to learn SEO, so I love to read her new book Step by Step SEO. I REALY LOVE HER WAY, its easy to understand. Thanks dear author.

I liked it. Not an amazing book, but worth reading if you use SEO or want to learn more about it. The one thing that bothered me was that the text was stretched out so much to fill more pages than necessary. There is a lot of white space on each page, double spaces between many paragraphs, etc. It's an obvious attempt to take a 125 page book and stretch it to over 200 pages, which is just silly to do. But I did find some helpful things in there, so it was still worth reading.

This was a great book for any business professional who is interested in SEO. While everyone won't be able to complete all of the tips and tricks in this book, it is very important to know what is out there so you can add these tools to your overall SEO strategy. When you get to the end, there is a downloaded checklist that is a great starting place for anyone interested in SEO. I can't wait to try what I learned in this book!

Considering that I'm reading an outdated version, it was still OK.

Not that great if you know much of what the author was trying to teach, but good enough for beginners to get their feet wet on SEO and a few websites that are useful: some free, some paid.

The author updates the book almost every year, so always try to get the latest copy from your library (if they have it)

I put off reading this book for almost a year because I thought it would be really boring and technical. It turned out I was wrong. This book was very easy and pleasant to read, yet backed with knowledge about SEO. There were of course some technical stuff but you dont have to be a web developer to understand the main points.

Excellent practical introduction to SEO

This book did a good job of explaining search engine optimization, focusing strongly the Google platform. In addition to teaching the subject, the book was chock full of actionable advice and tips that a motivated but non-technical business owner could use to increase the traffic and value of their web site.

Excellent for Beginner and Advanced

I am completely new at ECommerce and have built a new web site for my small craft business. Reading this book showed me just how much I didn't know. It offers specific advice for building traffic i easy to understand terms. It is bursting with helpful links for tools that help and further reading. I absolutely recommend this book!

I have worked with SEO for three years now, devouring as much info as I can every day, and constantly try to stay informed. Though I did not learn anything new from this book, I think it is an excellent book for people with less exptertise and experience.

The book is written in a simple language, with good explanations.

Very easy to read.

Great resource on SEO

I really enjoyed reading this book. Although I’ve been a marketer for many years, I am a newbie at SEO. The book is full of great tips for anyone who wants to start his own business or improve their current one, and provides a comprehensive list of free and paid resources and a plethora of best practices. Highly recommended.

Easy to read and a great resource.

SEO resources can often be questionable with the same point repeated over and over until a book is produced. Adam actually covers a lot of ground in this book. You get the impression that he understands the background of what he is writing about and not just a couple of facts.

The book clearly explained concepts and best practices in step-by-step fashion. It contains A LOT if links to tools and resources for further studying. It is an in-action book which you can use as guild to perform actual SEO. Content is very up-to-date. Also I bought it $0.99 from Amazon Kindle deal, totally worth it.

Reading SEO 2014 by Adam Clarke was a major turning point in my career. Back when I was just beginning to understand the world of search optimization, this book helped me build a solid foundation in SEO strategy, particularly in areas like keyword targeting, link building, and understanding how Google’s algorithm changes affect visibility.

In fact, this book played such a key role in my journey that I eventually launched my own SEO and analytics agency, Pandeia.co, where we now specialize in off-page SEO—building digital authority through backlink outreach, influencer marketing, and social engagement.

But while the book was hugely valuable when I started, it’s showing signs of age. A few points to keep in mind if you’re considering picking it up:

It claims to be updated for April 2015, but several links mentioned are broken (e.g., ifhtne.com).

Some tools promoted are non-functional.

the book is poorly written with a lot of formatting mistakes.

That said, SEO 2014 still has immense value as a beginner’s introduction. It’s just not a book I’d recommend using as your only resource in 2025. The strategies it inspired helped me craft the long-term foundation for our services at Pandeia.co.
