(En inglés / In English) Max va a la biblioteca is a translation in Spanish of Max Goes to the Library by Adria F. Klein. In this book, Max reads a book about animals at the library, and searches for more books in the automated catalog. I am able to read and understand this book in Spanish without another copy in English.
I listened to an audio as I am attempting to learn Spanish. It was well paced, using good repetition of basic vocabulary and additions of a few others throughout to learn. It is similar to an easy reader for young children in Pre-K or Kindergarten just learning to read. (Or, at least that is how I picture it in my mind).
"Max Goes To The Library" was adorable with very simple sentences for your beginning reader. It's also great for the child who's just about to get his/her library card. Ms. Klein has Max go through every step perfectly. He goes to the library, meets the librarian, gets his own library card and even gets on the computer as he's looking for books. Of course, as a parent and a lover of the library, this book was a favorite of mine, and I couldn't wait to read it with my daughter. She really liked it too...she loves the library and recognized what this book was about right away. I give it 5 stars.
Max is a great role model for students who will read this book. Max is a happy young boy of color, as evidenced by his perpetual smile. Max is self-assured; he walks to the library by himself, meets the librarian by himself, and asks for a library card. After the librarian shows him where the children's books are, Max picks one out by himself. His behavior is great--he sits and reads to himself. Max is a self-starter; when he finishes that book he goes to a computer by himself and finds another three books. He brings his selections to the librarian, checks them out, then walks himself home. Happy, self-confident, and a has a lot of initiative; exactly what we want our children to learn.
Grades K-1. RL 390. A short reader about going to the library. Crisp, colorful illustrations accompany limited text. Many-syllable words are more apt to encourage whole language learning. Will build vocabulary sight words dealing with library usage.
