When I Let You Go

Rate this book
Twelve years ago I ruined my life.
Lost the one girl I've ever truly loved and I've been living a lie ever since.
I go home to my wife...most nights. I go through the motions. I'm living the life I was born into, married to a girl predestined for me. It's not my wife's fault, but sometimes I can barely stand the sight of her.

My name is Dylan Cole.
It's a name synonymous with power. I am rich beyond measure, domineering, and ruthless when it comes to getting what I want.
But I cannot have her.
This is what happened...When I Let You Go

Well what a sizzler of a read this was...and not just because of the sometimes graphic physical and mental sex it contains. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading, but once I got going I couldn't put it down. And guess what? That had nothing to do with the sexuality. It had to do with the intriguing, and very realistic characters in this story. Lily Foster is superb at letting these characters reveal themselves to us through their thoughts, words and actions...many of which will shock more genteel readers...but the rest of us will take it as telling it like it is. And personally, I really like that.

In fact, that's the crux of much of what this story is about. The protagonist, Dylan, has grown up in the world of the very rich, where there is money for everything and everyone, including Dylan and his mother, wears masks to hide what they really think and feel. It's a rather immoral world where swinging is acceptable and done with regularity, while pretension is rampant amongst sophisticated socialites.

Dylan himself is not the most likeable character...until you come to know him and realize that under his driven, skirt-chasing, handsome exterior, is a guy who'd just love to have a good woman share his life, love, and eventually children. Does he find that woman? Is she woman enough for him and can she also match his sexual appetite? Does she too keep her real self hidden? If so, why?

You'll have to read this novel to find out, and though you don't have to, you might want to read the books that preceded this one to get an even larger look into the 50 shades of the society in which Dylan grew up: it's what made him the character we meet in When I Let you Go.

A really good read! I look forward to reading more by Lily Foster.

Emotional read

Most of the time you go to the movies and walk out thinking, "that was good". No big deal and you go on with you night. But, every once in a while you go to the movies and what you watch settled into you and you walk out unable to shake the movie off. Those are the ones that were really worth the ticket price. This is all that in a book.

This book features strong writing that really kept me hooked. And Dylan's character arc stretches from an unlikable, lousy husband to something so much deeper. There is some strong language in this book as well as a romantic intrigue between two adults with a large age gap between them. Sometimes this leads to cognitive dissonance in the characters that is beautifully written. But it also leads to some uncomfortable passages which may not be a good fit for some readers.
However, the pacing is brilliant, and the characters pop off the page. I stayed up late into the wee hours of the night to see how this story turned out. I was not disappointed.

Oh I so loved this book. The different perspectives were fabulous. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me internally shout at it and want to slap people. I got so involved. And as for Dylan, I sincerely hope he is happy, this book changed my mind about him. Such a good series, I'm kinda sad these characters are finished with. I may have to read them all again.

Dylan Cole. Handsome, Powerful. Rich. Ruined. Veronica Petrov. Beautiful. Artistic. Damaged. Dylan grew up in New York Society. Prep school, privileged. He fell in love in college but destroyed the relationship with his spoiled, cheating ways. Since then he has played the role he was born to play. Business mogul, married to a society girl. Perfect image. But it's not real. Inside he's jaded, unhappy in his marriage. Veronica is part of a large immigrant family. Family that Kasia, Dylan's college love happens to belong to as well. Her childhood was ideal until her abusive father isolated his wife and daughters from the rest of the family. Then at 17, her father threw her out of the house, unjustly calling her a whore. Veronica survived on her own, working multiple jobs and crashing on friend's couches. Finally, she reached back out to her estranged family who gladly welcomed her back. Now she works in her cousin Alex's florist shop. She's once again close to Kesha but their time together is limited. Dylan and Veronica cross paths when she is his coat check girl at one of her jobs. He's immediately attracted to her and true to character, tries to pick her up, unsuccessfully. Their paths cross again in random ways and eventually, he learns that she is the little girl he met while dating her older cousin. While he realizes that this should make her off-limits it does nothing to dampen his desire for her. Then one conversation after all of these years with Kasia changes the course of Dylan's life. He realizes that he deserves to be happy and takes actions to be so.

I loved this book. I hated this book. It was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I was uncomfortable from page one. This life of the wealthy; superficial, shallow, meaningless, entitled, spoiled is so distasteful to me. Plastic surgery, affairs, one-upping each other. The hollow, vapid existence of this layer of society turns me off completely. Why would you not want more out of life? How could you not demand more from your friends, spouses, family? It hurts me that people go through life thinking this is okay. It broke my heart for Margot and Dylan. It was easy to see how trapped they were within the confines of their station. But still, Dylan embraced his role even while despising himself. From the barn scene of a teenage Dylan, he proved his lack of character. He took cheating to an artform. Cheating is a deal-breaker for me, so the fact that I actually continued to read this book and came to like the man is a testament to Lily Foster's writing. I loved Veronica. Her damaged spirit called out to me. She too was a victim of her upbringing. She was innocent when labeled a whore and after years of being mentally abused, she believed the words over her own actions. I loved her resilience, sympathized with her fear, and understood her feelings of worthlessness. Throughout everything, her spirit shined. I had no issues with the age difference and was able to put aside Dylan's former relationship with her older cousin. There were uncomfortable moments and I do wish that Dylan could have been more emphatic separating his attraction for both women. I would have appreciated more wooing. To state that he knew what he wanted but would walk away if she didn't immediately seem into 'it' was not the endorsement for undying passion and love that I would have preferred. It would have helped if Dylan were more exposed, vulnerable while pursuing her. Veronica was attacked by his ex several times, his best female friend, and yet I felt like she was the one made to smooth things over in their relationship. I will be honest, I may not be impartial when looking at these two. I loved them together but since Dylan cheated in every conceivable manner his entire life, I needed more proof of a change. Veronica deserved more.

This book elicited so many emotions from me. I was enthralled from beginning to end. I was wrecked by the final pages. It's a coming of age story that took way too many years to come about. But it left me with hope. People can change, grow, figure out what truly matters and turn away from the rest. There is a HEA out there waiting.

I would recommend you read Let Me Go before you read this book to have a chance to understand all the characters and their interactions. Here we met Dylan again and not much has changed with him. He is still the same selfish cheating person he was in book one and it seems like some of the growth he had there has diminished. He meets Kaisha's cousin Veronika, a woman much younger than him, and his whole world starts to change. Dylan is an asshole but the author also finds small ways to make you invested him in spite of all the shit he sometimes pulls.

Nothing will every make me like his best friend Melanie though. A selfish, envious, disloyal PoS through and through. Its like we are supposed to find her edgy because she is a woman and does all this screwed up shit. I just find her repulsive. Her presence alone is reason enough for me to knock off half a star. The other is the crap Margot spills and how Vince his dad is mostly given a pass for his cheating behaviour cause he's a good man. Newsflash - serial cheaters who screw their secretaries (hello power deferential) are not good men.

I really liked Veronika much as I liked Kaisha. Veronika is less inclined to see the good in people and is for lack of a better word more tough then her cousin. At the same time she is loyal, brave, smart and not one to back down from anything. I loved the whole Maruz family dynamic in this book as much as I did in the first one. Though what happened to Kaisha and by extension Jake broke my heart. I have to be honest. I feel Kaisha was sacrificed for Dylan to grow up and that was another star gone.

I was also kind of thrown by the opening with his mother and how it really went no where, but I guess it was to show us how she ended up going from social grand dame to hippie wannabe before the end of the book. In a way I kind of would have liked to have known what happened to Jesse. I have a feeling he made a name for himself in the music world. That would be a reason for Vince to always be afraid of him.

Overall if you can handle a book about selfish, cheating, and lying people because the pay off is worth it you will probably enjoy this book. The characters are well rounded and it never feels like any lose strings are left.

I stayed up last night reading until I literally could not keep my eyes open anymore, then woke up this morning excited to finish. I feel sad that I'm done right now. I think that's what they call a book hangover!
So in this book we get to see what happens to Dylan Cole years later. It's hard to talk about the plot without revealing anything, and since I hate spoilers, I'll just say that I was surprised by the twists and turns, totally into the love story, and really satisfied with the way this series ended.
Can't wait to see what this author has coming up next!

I fell so deeply into the Cole family and those who shared the planet with them. The drama was a multi-level story but you don’t have to wait long for the onion to be peeled back. Within the first few lines you are intrigued and just when you think you have the story figured out it goes sideways. Moving more than a full 360 degrees, the main character Dylan Cole’s life changes in ways I could not predict in the beginning. I remained completely enthralled by him and was honestly slightly sad when I realized his story had come to an end. I feel like I will be rereading this soon.

Dylan Cole......where do i start? we meet him again years later living the life he was born in to and expected to live but he's hollow on the inside having never totally got over the mistakes he made with kazia. A chance meeting with kazia's cousin and what follows convince him he wants and deserves more than he's currently got. But is he willing to fight for it?
This book can be a stand alone but to get a greater understanding of Dylan Cole and his history i recommend reading 'let me go' 1st.
i love this series and all the characters that have secondary roles and intertwine in each book, although this authors genre is normally NA /YA i loved the change to 'adult business man' and a look into the characters as adults.
Warning For Reading This book: make sure you have tissues and maybe don't read it in public if wearing mascara.x

WHEN I LET YOU GO (WILYG) was the first book I’ve read by Lily Foster; I have not read any of the first five in this series. WHEN I LET YOU GO is accessible as a standalone read, but Foster’s LET ME GO focuses on the first relationship of the main character in WILYG, Dylan Cole. The relationships between characters are made very explicit, however, so while reading LET ME GO might provide fully fleshed-out details of Dylan’s previous relationship, I never felt confused while reading WILYG.
There is a lot of sex in the book—straightforward, 50 SHADES OF GREY-style sex. The characters are not particularly likable; Dylan Cole is a cheating husband with a history of heartbreak and a redemption arc. His love interest, Veronica, is constantly referred to as being better than everyone else, but there is nothing about her personality that seems noticeably superior to other people. Their love story is fine—a “will they or won’t they?”-situation in which they obviously will, even when they continue to find things to argue about. The pace of the book is staggered, though a few time jumps and flash backs reinvigorate it.
Foster quite clearly has a gift for imagining characters. The book begins with a deep dive into Dylan’s parents’ past, and I felt a bit deflated upon realizing that the book was moving away from the parents’ story, though it is mentioned several more times throughout. There is no shortage of background characters assigned tiny but intriguing details that make you wish Foster jumped into everyone’s back stories instead of focusing on Dylan and Veronica. The conclusion felt obvious, though it may have been more of a surprise had I read LET ME GO.

Should have let it go (SPOILERS)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE “Let Me Go”. I instantly fell in love with Kasia and Dylan. I fell in love with them as people with all of their flaws and emotions, and I truly felt like I knew them at the end of the book. When I heard Dylan was getting a follow up story, I could barely contain my excitement. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this was not it. First of all, I could not move past the thoughts of Veronica as a child while he was with Kasia, and their entire relationship felt forces. I loved her as a character, but I did not enjoy them as a couple at all. Throughout the book, I loved catching glimpses of beloved characters I’ve come to know over the course of the series. The only two people I did not feel connected to, however were the star couple. While I’m completely disappointed, I will continue along with the stories as long as Lily Foster gives them to us

I'm not sure why an author thought this story needed to be told. Dylan is a spoiled rich boy who is a chronic cheater. He's gone through life taking what he wants without consequences. Let's also not forget the disturbing Woody Allenesque theme of dating someone you knew as a child. I didn't find anything redeeming in this story. I also didn't care for the passive/aggressive personality of the h. Sadly I paid money to read this disappointment.

Dear Ms Foster- the one person's story I'd like to have read was Dylan's mother- Margot. The woman who "loved" her son absolutely but pushed him into marrying her bf's daughter knowing he would be miserable. Especially since she was so miserable in her own marriage. I'm not sure it would be any more believable than WILYG.

The Cole family is part of New York's elite society and Dylan Cole, head of the Cole business empire, is no exception. He's exactly what you'd expect: rich, powerful, famous, unfaithful, spoiled and judgemental. He married exactly as expected, Cece Cole comes from the same type of family and holds the same type of values. On the outside, Dylan and Cece are the perfect match; but behind closed doors they have far from the perfect marriage. Dylan has never gotten over what he considers to be the greatest mistake of his life: losing his one true love Kasia.

When I Let You Go is the first book in Lily Foster's Let Me series that I have read. I was initially concerned that not having read the book on Dylan and Kasia's story would leave me a bit lost and I would fail to understand the true backstory of their relationship. But once I delved in to this book, it was clearly evident that this was a completely different story from that one and that this could easily be followed on it's own merit.

See this isn't the story of Dylan and Kasia, or even Dylan and Cece. It's the story of Dylan and Veronica, the girl on the outside who keeps up her walls and has no place in Dylan's world... at least in her mind. From the first moment they meet, Dylan is enamored with Veronica, but Veronica sees him for who he is and quickly dismisses any interest. Months later, however, a chance encounter at a hospital causes Dylan to realize that Veronica is more than just the cute girl from the coat check and that their pasts are connected by a very strong link. Unable to ignore this twist of fate, Dylan is determined to pursue Veronica and make her see that there is a lost more depth to his soul than meets the eye.

This story focuses on all aspects of love: deep love that is lost, love between families and love between couples, and love that weathers the storms as well as love that ends in failure. There is heartache and there is triumph. I'll admit there were times where I cried, but many more where I smiled. At first I routed against Dylan, but then I was definitely wholeheartedly in his corner. This story of Dylan and Veronica and all of those who are intertwined in their lives is definitely one that is worth taking an emotional trip through

This is book six from The Let Me Series and it is Dylan and Veronica's story and omg this book is a must but have the tissues handy because you will definitely need them. Dylan wants out of his marriage as he realised that even though he is not perfect and has done some awful things he deserves a chance to change and find love again. Dylan has always regretted cheating on Kasia the one women that he loved years ago so when he meets Veronica he realised that he wants to have a life with her but what he doesn't know is that Veronica is related to Kasia's. Veronica has had a hard life as her dad is a nasty, abusive and cruel man who through her out and her mother didn't do anything about it but the other side of her family including Kasia has always been there for her. When Dylan and Veronica meet they have a instant attraction between them but neither know that they have a connection between them that is Kasia so how will it all work out in the end for them. This story takes you on a roller coaster ride of so many twists and turns along with emotional situations that have you in tears for everything that is happening and you feel like you are taking every step with them and going through it yourself. I couldn't put this book down as it was a real page turner that took you in right from the first page until the last one and it was so addictive and kept you on the edge of your seat. I am so sad that this series had to end but I look forward to reading the next book by Lily Foster who is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention while turning the pages of this book.

This review will contain some spoilers. Let me be clear when I say I absolutely HATE books that have cheating and OW/OM drama and this book is unfortunately full of that. If I hadn't read all the other books in the series I probably would not have finished this one, but I wanted to see how it played out. I was utterly disappointed. Dylan is still the same cheating a-hole we met in Let Me Go and he remains to be that way throughout the majority of this book. Veronica, who is Kasia's cousin is young, a bit naive, but strong on her own. Hated them together though for many reasons. One, she was SO much younger than him and he knew her as a child, which is kind of sickening when you think about it. Two, I didn't really buy that her family would be okay with her being with a serial cheater but they all for some reason sang Dylan's praises all while knowing he was actively screwing around on his wife and knowing he had done the same with Kasia in the other book. Speaking of Kasia, ugh poor, poor Kasia. I was SO disappointed in how her story has come to a close. SPOILER - Kasia gets brain cancer and passes away. It honestly felt like a cheap way to get her out of the picture so that Dylan could move on and find his HEA - which quite frankly he really didn't even deserve. I didn't buy that Dylan was so in love with Veronica that he wouldn't end up cheating on her like he's done to all his other girlfriends and I don't like that he ended up happy while Jake is now alone because of Kasia's death.

This book wasn't the best of the series. It didn't flow as well and I didn't connect to the characters like I had in the other books I have read. The writing is good but the connection just wasn't there for me as a reader.

I did enjoy the darker sides of the characters but felt overall the relationships were forced and melodramatic. The hero even felt a bit cookie cutter. Now I'm all for an unlikable hero. I love them but Dylan was nothing special for me. There was so much potential to really dive into different aspects of how his different lifestyle could've influenced his outlook. But in a world where everyone is fighting for tolerance, this book labels some lifestyles as immoral (regardless of how one feels, the subject could've made it more of how Dylan chose to view it this way instead of taking a larger societal scale which just made if feel more off putting).

I would still recommend it but wasn't one of my favorites.

When I Let You Go is the final book in the Let Me series by Lily Foster, I was excited to read it since I really enjoy the New Adult genre, but was ultimately let down by the book. Usually I have no problem reading series books as a standalone, but this one was bit trickier for me since there were parts of the story that featured information from previous books. On top of that, I really couldn’t get into the characters or overall story. I felt a bit disconnected from them which let me to feel disengaged from the story.

On top of that, the writing style was too choppy for my liking and I felt like the narrative was all over the place which made it hard to follow. It was full of steamy scenes and sweet moments which I adore in romance novels, but ultimately this book was not for me. But for others who enjoy the New Adult genre, this romance just may be your cup of tea.

Not all love stories start happy and stay happy. Not all lovers are faithful, even if they're dreamy. This book is full of love, betrayal, loss, heartache... and sex. A romance novel that lets you into the lives of its most important characters, and lets you see their dark sides.

This wasn't my favorite of the Let Me series. In fact, I felt that it was more difficult to read than the previous book I read. It didn't flow as smoothly. It didn't hold my interest as much, maybe because I found it hard to like this set of characters (I'm not really sure). It's still a good read though, and a decent finish to the series.

When I Let You Go
I have to admit I spent a lot of time (esp in the beginning of this book) wondering why I was reading this book, because two of the main characters (Margot and her son Dylan) were not very likable. However, even though they were unlikable, they were well-rounded three-dimensional characters, you could easily understand them and their motivations for their behavior. Veronica, though more sympathetic and likable, is also a well-developed character, although I felt the author took too long to share her difficult backstory. Luckily the characters become more likable as the story progresses, though I did have problems warming up to Dylan, because he acted like an unsympathetic jerk most of the time, and I disliked the fact that he unremorsefully cheated on his wife. The worlds the characters inhabit (though ones I do not covet) especially the one that Dylan and Margot live in are well-described and full of small details. Like Let Me Fall by the same author, I would have liked to gotten into the heads of other characters in the book. So in conclusion, even though you’ll likely start out disliking the characters, you probably be rooting for them to get a happy ending by the novel’s end.

Loved this book

Loved the book although it took awhi!e to like Dylan. Veronica was amazing and sometimes too good for Dylan. Eventually Dylan was redeeming and I liked him better. Glad they both found happiness in the end
