It's a desperate race against time, and Quinn's most puzzling case yet! When someone snatches one of Liam Quinn's loved ones, the PI is on the case... but the clues are even darker than the crime. Someone's killing serial killers, carving a name for themselves in the annals of Philadelphia terror. Quinn has just twenty-four hours to catch a murderer. It's Quinn on the Clock.
For lovers of Robert B. Parker, John D. MacDonald and Sue Grafton, this private eye series offers a steady stream of action and adventure, humor and even some romance.
Q - Why do readers relate to Quinn? He's an ex-con.
A - He's a guy who made a mistake, and no one is harder on Liam than Liam, I think -- at least in the first few books. And he's got a big, troublesome extended family. I was trying to capture that feeling we've all had at some point around the dinner table or at a family event, when you know you really love them but boy, what you wouldn't give to say what you're really thinking!
Q - For a guy who fights so much, he's kind of a big softy! Was that deliberate?
A - He developed as a character based on a backstory and a family history that I had pretty firmly in mind; but by having once been a champion boxer, it gave me a chance to let him handle disputes without using a gun, a definite necessity for an ex-con. I like to think he's his parents' son.
Q - Do I need to read them in order?
A -It helps. It's not necessary, as every book is a self-contained mystery (or three); but the backstory of his family and the progression of his life in Philadelphia makes a lot more sense in chronological order: 1. Quinn Checks In 2. Quinn Gets His Kicks 3. Quinn Goes West 4. Quinn and the Vanishing Bride 5. Quinn Gets the Blues 6. Quinn and the Dead Man's Daughter 7. Quinn Slips the noose 8. Quinn Goes to Jail 9. Quinn Gets Hitched 10 Quinn Plays Ball
Q - So why should I try them?
A - Because you're looking for a fun read, with lots of action adventure and mystery to test your sleuthing. If you like books by Gregory McDonald, Janet Evanovich or Stuart Woods, you'll enjoy Quinn.
Quinn Checks in is the first gripping suspense thriller in the Liam Quinn PI mysteries, a new series of private detective novels from the Canadian master of mystery and suspense, LH Thomson. The Quinn books take Liam from Center City, Philadelphia to the west coast, Florida and into the dark heart of urban crime -- but not without Liam keeping his sense of humor intact.
LH Thomson Delivers Another Winner with Quinn on the Clock The first book I read by LH Thomson had Quinn Checks In and now He is On the Clock. I love the titles. I must state that I received a copy of this book with no expectation of remuneration on my part and no expectation of a positive review from the author. When you read an LH Thomson book, you come to expect certain things. The story will be fast-paced, suspenseful, and will hold your interest; with twists and turns that would make Chuck Berry proud. The characters will be strong, complex, well thought out and realistic. The dialogue is natural and believable. The plot is true to the story, without contrived scenes that force you to suspend disbelief. Quinn On the Clock is all of these and more. It is well-edited and thoroughly proofed. In Quinn on the Clock, a previous nemesis resurfaces and his internal turmoil begins with a vengeance, especially when he finds out who is behind his latest turmoil. The book's timing is well done, keeping the reader guessing what Quinn will do next and what others will do to Quinn. The character of Quinn is a flawed individual, but he is flawed in a way the reader can relate to, which is why the reader begins to care for him before the book is done. The dialogue is witty at times, solemn in others, while realistic and believable throughout. The main thing about the story is that as you read it you do not have to suspend disbelief to follow the story, LH Thomson is a masterful wordsmith, well-honed in his craft and has delivered another winner in Quinn On the Clock.
The latest addition to the Liam Quinn Series, Quinn on the Clock, is another great read. Quinn is attending the opening for the exhibit that his wife, Nora, put together when she goes missing and a body is found in one of the exhibit items. With his father, brothers, and father-law's help, Quinn is literally on the clock to find her before 24 hours are up or she dies. False leads, dead ends, more bodies and conversations with a psychopathic adversary from the past make this one suspenseful book. I have read all the books in this series and never have I been disappointed in any of them and this one is no exception. Well written, great characters you feel you know yourself, you go along for the ride with Quinn to find Nora before time runs out. I didn't guess the killer until the reveal. If you like mysteries, give this series a try. I think it's wonderful and if you are a fan of the old T.V. series, The Rockford Files, you need to read the series.
I have read and enjoyed previous Quinn stories and wondered if this would be as good. I wasn't disappointed, this was excellent, although a little different. I loved it. Talk about tension - this is full of it all the way through.
Quinn's wife Nora disappears then dead bodies start appearing along with clues for Quinn to solve. Each clue is harder and more puzzling and there is a deadline of 24 hours. How on earth will Quinn cope, worried sick about Nora and desperate to solve the clues. He can't afford to make a mistake, Nora's life is on the line.
The clock is ticking and time is running out. Who is behind this? There are many things to consider. This certainly keeps you turning the pages looking for the answers. A very good book and definitely to be recommended.
I reviewed this book from an advanced copy provided by the author.
Liam Quinn is an investigator whose wife Nora has been taken captive. He has to try and figure out who took her and where she is. The kidnapper has given him 24 in which to follow clues left for him. He is assisted by his brother, father-in-law and others. As they work through the clues they come across a few other murders which are also clues. As things progress Quinn finds out he is facing an old nemesis. I really loved this book and found it to be an edge of your seat thriller. It was hard to put down and I will definitely read more from this author.
Someone kidnaps Quinn's wife and leaves a cryptic clue to finding her, and gives him 24 hours to do so or she dies. We follow the clues and Quinn, running round the town and getting shot at, dead end interviews and all the time the clock is ticking. Will he solve all riddles before Nora dies? Read and see.
What an amazing book. Just loved it from beginning to end. Really didn't want it to end. Liam is such a fantastic character I reviewed this book from an ARC.
