Robert Jordan was the pen name of James Oliver Rigney, Jr., under which he was best known as the author of the bestselling The Wheel of Time fantasy series. He also wrote under the names Reagan O'Neal and Jackson O'Reilly.
Jordan was born in Charleston, South Carolina. He served two tours in Vietnam (from 1968 to 1970) with the United States Army as a helicopter gunner. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with bronze oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star with "V" and bronze oak leaf cluster, and two Vietnamese Gallantry Crosses with palm. After returning from Vietnam he attended The Citadel where he received an undergraduate degree in physics. After graduating he was employed by the United States Navy as a nuclear engineer. He began writing in 1977. He was a history buff and enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing, poker, chess, pool, and pipe collecting.
He described himself as a "High Church" Episcopalian and received communion more than once a week. He lived with his wife Harriet McDougal, who works as a book editor (currently with Tor Books; she was also Jordan's editor) in a house built in 1797.
Responding to queries on the similarity of some of the concepts in his Wheel of Time books with Freemasonry concepts, Jordan admitted that he was a Freemason. However, "like his father and grandfather," he preferred not to advertise, possibly because of the negative propaganda against Freemasonry. In his own words, "no man in this country should feel in danger because of his beliefs."
On March 23, 2006, Jordan disclosed in a statement that he had been diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis, and that with treatment, his median life expectancy was four years, though he said he intended to beat the statistics. He later posted on his Dragonmount blog to encourage his fans not to worry about him and that he intended to have a long and fully creative life.
He began chemotherapy treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in early April 2006. Jordan was enrolled in a study using the drug Revlimid just approved for multiple myeloma but not yet tested on primary amyloidosis.
Jordan died at approximately 2:45 p.m. EDT on September 16, 2007, and a funeral service was held for him on Wednesday, September 19, 2007. Jordan was cremated and his ashes buried in the churchyard of St. James Church in Goose Creek, outside Charleston.

Mam nadzieję, że ta seria cały czas będzie wzbudzała we mnie takie emocje i odczucia jak dotychczas. Oglądałam dwa sezony serialu i mniej więcej wiedziałam czego się spodziewać, teraz będę płynąć „na ślepo” z czego cieszę się dwukrotnie 😍 Rand faktycznie czasem aż prosi się żeby nim potrząsnąć za tę jego naiwność, ale chyba jestem w stanie wybaczyć tej serii wszystkie małe potknięcia<3

‘La gran cacería’ y esta ‘La batalla de Falme’ de esta edición española que ando leyendo conforman la segunda publicación en la versión original llamada ‘El despertar de los héroes’. Comentario y valoración es de ambas partes.
Nuestros protagonistas se separan y el foco se centra, por un lado, en Rand y cía. en su búsqueda y persecución del Cuerno de Valere y, por otro, en Egwene y Nynaeve y su adiestramiento en la Torre Blanca.
Entrega(s) donde la trama general de la saga avanza lenta pero segura engrosando la mitología del mundo creado por Jordan con nuevos conceptos, personajes y acontecimientos históricos que enriquecen el universo de la obra.
Por contra, la trama que ocupa esta segunda novela(s) aumenta la acción considerablemente con respecto a la anterior, avanza a buen ritmo y queda perfectamente resuelta al final; algo que, en una saga de semejante envergadura, es de agradecer.

Erster Teil, der mich so richtig gefesselt hat - immer noch zu viele Namen, die ich mir nicht merken oder einordnen kann. Aber der ganze Subplot mit den Frauen (an den Ketten) war so gut, außer wenn sie wie Teenies sich über den Typen streiten, das hätte getrost weggekonnt. Auch die Vorkommnisse in der Stadt Cairhien waren spannend und Wiedersehen mit einem alten Freund.

Isn't it strange how servants clad in see through clothes usually are females? Sigh, I'm getting a bit tired of it... and yet, Jordan is better than so many other authors - authors writing new books today! I'm disappointed in the world.
If we look past this, we're finally getting somewhere! I'm itching for the last battle, but it's still such a long way to go. I don't remember the books being so sloooow… but maybe that's because I'm so focused on the last three books now, since I never got to read them last time. I want to know how the last battle goes!!

Auch wenn dieser Teil der Reihe von verschiedenen Personen, Orten und Geschehnissen stark gefüllt ist, kommt man immer besser in die Geschichte rein. Es wird immer spannender und so langsam fügt sich alles etwas besser zusammen. Bin gespannt auf die nächsten Teile!

“La Batalla de Falme” (segunda parte de “El Despertar de los Héroes”, segundo libro de la saga La Rueda del Tiempo), de Robert Jordan. Contiene algún spoiler de los primeros libros (inevitable al reseñar sagas).
Rand llega a Cairhien y debe enfrentarse al “Juego de las Casas”, mientras trata de averiguar qué camino han tomado sus enemigos con los dos objetos que debe recuperar a toda costa. Volvemos a ver reencuentros con amigos y aliados, despedidas y otro viaje alucinante que le conducirá a su destino. Aprenderemos más de los diversos grupos que pueblan el universo de Jordan, algunos maravillosos y otros tan oscuros como el Ajah Negro. Su imaginación no tiene límites. La trama sigue evolucionando de forma magistral para desenredarse en algunos puntos y volver a enredarse en otros en una rueda sin final.
A pesar de ser la segunda vez que leo la saga no dejo de sorprenderme con ella y lo bien hilado que está todo. Estamos disfrutándola al máximo, todos deseando empezar el tercer libro a mediados de noviembre para saber que destino le espera a nuestros protagonistas.

Me ha gustado cómo se van separando las historias hasta hacer que confluyan en el final, aunque te puedes esperar a rasgos generales lo que va a ocurrir te siguen sorprendiendo los detalles. A pesar de que la trama sigue en las siguientes novelas aquí le da un final temporal, lo que siempre se agradece cuando estás leyendo cada libro por separado, que lo deje todo provisionalmente atado a espera de ver cómo continúa.

J’ai aimé le tome 1 mais j’ai vraiment adoré celui ci ! La première partie de ce tome est un peu longue, mais la deuxième est vraiment chouette ! On sent le souffle épique arriver, on s’attache de plus en plus aux personnages. Mat semble, définitivement, devenir mon personnage préféré bien que Nynaeve et Min

This is a different edition than the one I read when it was first published. But I still really enjoyed this seris - up until about book 5, where I couldn't dredge up the energy to face one more book again. There's a reason trilogies are popular...

La cosa va mejorando poco a poco. La intriga ha aumentado un montón. El final de este libro me ha tenido en vilo y no he podido parar hasta terminar el libro. Parece que por fin ha conseguido engancharme. A ver cómo comienza el siguiente... Quiero saber qué va a pasar ya!!!

Thorougly enjoyed this one, there were so many moments where I was unable to put the book down in anticipation of what was next. Not sure if I'm just getting used to Robert Jordan's writing style by this point but I'm not really feeling the issues that others describe of him being overly descriptive.

Oké, hát bevallom, pár szereplőnél már elvesztettem a fonalat, hogy ki kicsoda, de azért a fő csapás iránya az megvolt. Elég jó a könyv, a cselekmény fordulatos, vannak benne érdekes megoldások, új teremtmények, nagy hősök és felismerések.
Nekem továbbra is zavaró Rand nyavalygása (ja, de utálom az Aes sedai-okat, jaj, de nem én vagyok a sárkány, jaj, de csak egy juhászlegény vagyok), szívem szerint néha pofántörültem volna a gémjeles kardjával.
Nynaeve al'meara viszont, aki korábban idegesített, most megfelelő szerepet kapott, szabadon brutálkodhatott. Jó választás volt.
Szóval most megnézem, ami kész van a filmsorozat ezen évadjából, aztán megnézem, bent van-e a könyvtárban a következő rész...

Enfin on commence à voir l’intérêt de cette histoire. Les intrigues se rejoignent petit à petit. Les personnages se développent de plus en plus. Ce tome 4 équivaut au tome 2 dans la version originale et je me demande bien ce que l’auteur va nous pondre dans les prochains parce que si la quête principale s’éternise je risque de m’ennuyer.
Dommage parce que je ne retrouve pas la hype que j’avais quand j’ai lu les chevaliers d’émeraude au collège… c’est un peu pour ça que j’ai commencer cette série car j’en avais entendu parler en bien et je voulais retrouver cette sensation… pour le moment cest pas le cas. J’espère que ça le sera pour la suite.
Je devrais aussi lire la suite assez rapidement parce que sinon je vais encore rien comprendre en lisant le début.

L'aventure de Rand et ses ami.e.s (et ennemi.e.s) continue et c'est tout à fait passionnant ! Il y a beaucoup d'action surtout sur la fin et ça rend la lecture très agréable. Les personnages commencent vraiment à avoir leur personnalité propre et le fait de les voir séparés est moins dérangeant qu'au début. Toujours quelques longueurs, mais le rythme de fin rattrape les moments plus longs.

Bien meilleurs que les premier et deuxième tomes, La Grande Quête approfondit encore l'univers de la Roue du Temps tout en laissant entrevoir encore de nombreux éléments encore inexplorés. Un tome épique et bien mieux rythmé !

Absolutely amazing. They just keep getting better and more interesting. I love Rand's journey but also the others. I cannot get enough of Loial. It seems so early for such a grand battle, but I cannot wait to see what is next.

Je suis déjà rendue au quatrième tome et l'action ne s'essouffle pas. Les descriptions restent toujours aussi claires et donnent l'impression que le lecteur est avec les personnages. Déjà hâte de savoir la suite!
