Google now processes 40,000 searches every second (that's 1.2 trillion searches every year) making this a key marketing strategy for businesses of any size. Focusing on the growing number of mobile users and increased localized searches, Perry Marshall and Mike Rhodes once again deliver the most comprehensive, current look at today's fastest, most powerful advertising medium.
Perry Marshall is endorsed in FORBES and INC Magazine and is one of the most expensive business consultants in the world. Clients in 300 industries value his capacity to integrate sales, technology, art and psychology.
He founded the $10 million Evolution 2.0 Prize, staffed by judges from Harvard, Oxford and MIT. He aims to solve the #1 mystery in Artificial Intelligence and the origin of life itself.
His 80/20 Curve is a productivity tool in NASA's Jet Propulsion Labs at the California Institute of Technology, and his Google AdWords book laid the foundations for the $100 billion Pay Per Click industry. He's served as an expert witness for search advertising litigation.
Marketing maverick Dan Kennedy says, “If you don’t know who Perry Marshall is — unforgivable. Perry’s an honest man in a field rife with charlatans.”
He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and lives with his family in Chicago.
I chose to read this book because, while I currently am not doing any advertising on the Internet, I would like to start. I am sure I am not alone, so all of you folks out there like me who would like to have their own business but don’t have a clue how to advertise it and certainly have no desire to lose our shirts.
The book is written as close to layman’s terms as you can get. Yes, there are new terms you may have to learn to play the game, but that’s par the course with anything you do. No worries here, though, as author Perry Marshall takes the time to explain all the necessary info and acronyms. What I began to realize after a while is that Google is not some nameless, faceless entity that just wants to eat my money. Mr. Marshall makes it plain that it is my choices as well as desire to learn that will help me to achieve my business goals. He also cautions that this is not a guaranteed-to-make-you-rich scheme and advises “if you’re not serious, don’t even start.”
The book, while focusing on AdWords, also addresses good business practices that new entrepreneurs might overlook, such as tuning up your ad text (what has been proven to works and what bombs) and seeking out niche markets. Other words of wisdom can be found throughout, such as “The offer your ad describes is more important that the words you use to describe it. What does your customer get by clicking on your ad? And how fast does he get it?”
Although the initial chapters are geared for folks like me who are new to the AdWords arena, seasoned veterans will also find chapters that are aimed at their needs. There is a handy Quick-Reference AdWords Glossary at the back for new readers as well as those who might need their memories jogged, as well as an Index in the back to aid with quickly finding whatever section you might need to flip to.
As a newcomer, after reading the book, I still feel a bit more overwhelmed; however, if you are going into battle, you should take the right gear. If you plan on using Google AdWords to propel your business, this book is the right gear. Five stars.
A wonderful book about how to shape your web advertising to get clicks, and bring in business. Lots of it,of course, is common sense, and the result of trial and error by the author, but it seems like it would do wonders for those trying to advertise on the web.
To me Adwords is just like a big stock market, but instead of Stocks you buy Keywords. Everything I knew about Marketing previous to getting involved in SEM, was based on last semester of school. I took a Marketing class as a requirement for my Business Minor andthought it was silly and not really applicable to the real world. After four years of building software in a software development group I have moved over to the dark side. Yes, instead of worrying about user experience, and how well the site is working I now worry about cramming advertising on web pages, so I needed some background on marketing again.
It can't be stated enough that Search Engine Marketing is not the same as Brand Advertising. This was the 2nd book I have read on the topic. The book will teach you Direct marketers set one goal from their ads: to compel a measurable response from their prospects. What better way to measure response than AdWords as it keeps track of everything expecially when tied to Google Analytics.
I loved the example they gave in chapter 13 about the Wright Brothers. It is often the sidebars that made this book interesting. This book was packed with information without reading like a textbook, so the little stories I could tolerate. However,I never did understand the "Uncle Claude Sez segments", I could have done without those. Also, like many others I never did find the $85 Google Success toolkit. Overall this helped me run my Adwords campaign better. Also Perry's website is great if you get a chance to check it out. The Split testing tool is fantastic.
Perry Marshall is definitely at the cutting edge of Google adwords management. Having worked in the industry for over 10 years, Perry's book has been like a bible to me.
Everything covered from A-Z in adwords. All thoroughly explained, easy reference point should you want to be starting something new.
Having trained a team of adwords managers in a large Australian Online Marketing company the foundations for all my training sessions were based on learnings from Perry.
Anyone looking to get into managing Adwords campaigns for themselves as a business owner or as adwords professional I would highly recommend this book.
I run a multi-million dollar digital marketing firm specializing in auto dealers. This book is a go to resource and a must read for anyone interested in the craft. Digital marketing is hard work, and Perry makes it understandable and gives you all the tricks to succeed. The critical piece that comes through in spades, however, is that this is real work. There’s a lot to do to do SEM right, and if you follow the process in this book, you’ll be in the top tier of SEM professionals. A must read.
An excellent introduction to Google Ads (formerly known as "Adwords"). I enjoyed how the authors addresses fundamentals like market research for keywords and choosing a niche. There is also great advice on writing ads. I've turned the corners on more than a dozen pages on the book to flag places where I want to go back and learn more. The supplemental material - available through Perry Marshall's website - is outstanding. These supplemental material are like receiving an online course for free with the book. I also highly recommend "80/20 Sales and Marketing" by Perry Marshall.
Two small drawbacks for the book. First, it is dated in some of the details on the platform (the book is several years old) so the screenshots, options and look of the platform are now quite different than what you see in the book. I understand that the authors are planning a new edition in 2020 so that will be exciting to see. The other drawback: I would have liked to see more in-depth explanations of campaigns showing how they were optimized over time. There are some examples where the authors state something like "he optimized his results over 3 months and got these amazing results." That's an intriguing but it was frustrating not to see the supporting details.
If you're looking to step up your AdWords game, this book is an essential guide for mastering Google's advertising platform.
Marshall's writing style is clear, concise, and easy to understand, making it accessible for beginners and experienced advertisers alike.
The book is packed with practical tips and strategies for optimizing your AdWords campaigns, helping you achieve the best possible results for your advertising budget. From keyword research to ad creation, bidding strategies, and conversion tracking, Marshall covers everything you need to know to create successful ad campaigns on AdWords.
Although AdWords has evolved since the publication of this book, the fundamentals of effective advertising on the platform remain the same. The Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords provides a solid foundation for anyone looking to use AdWords to reach new customers, increase website traffic, and grow their business.
Overall, this book is a valuable resource for anyone looking to dive into the world of Google AdWords, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get started with online advertising.
On one hand, this appears to be a still-relevant and (if so) invaluable resource for any entrepreneur looking to make use of online advertising. On the other hand, reading this as a library book will not pay dividends. This is the type of material that needs to be owned, marked up with a highlighter, and maybe even tested against other resources (such as video tutorials) that are from the current year.
Handig handboek rond AdWords.
This one stands out from the pack because it focuses intently on getting results. Instead of "this is how to use this one fuction in AdWords" you'll get "this is how to get VALUE out of the time you spend tinkering with AdWords." That constant attention to real life results sets it apart from other guides like it.
Excellent primer for anyone even curious about the power of PPC and how the concept of 80/20 Sales and Marketing applies to the worlds most powerful Marketing tool. Easy reading, even the technical chapters are well-crafted and move you through to the end. The pop-outs and asides from “Uncle Claude” are an exciting way to tie in history with the technology of today.
The book gives you exactly what the title says. The only problem is the excessive verbiage makes you wish there was more editorial discretion. I think the book could have been trimmed by a third. The information is good though, relevant and smack up to date.
Top notch read on mastering Google adwords. I've gained tremendous insight into how to navigate and improve my online marketing results at least twofold. Great read overall.
There is an intial surprise when reading this book but at the end it is just a collection of marketing technique to push toward his landing page and hire him or request his services.
A special thank you to Entrepreneur Media and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords:How to Access 1 Billion People in 10 Minutes by Perry Marshall Mike Rhodes, and Bryan Todd is a valuable tool, whether you are looking for answers about online marketing, from beginner to more advanced users.
Perry Marshall is the world’s bestselling author on Google’s advertising system with individuals and companies utilizing his methods to for successful results and maximizing advertising solutions.
The book is laid out from rank beginner, a veteran PPC marketer, and somewhat advanced material for go-getter google advertisers, and how to force prospects to choose your site and make them buy from you, not your competitor.
We all would love to put our online marketing on auto pilot, with all the hours of monitoring, editing, beta testing, content, google updates, changes, etc. Google gets searched six billion times every day with over 70,000 searches every second. Everyone wants this traffic directed to their site, 24/7, 365 hours a day. Google AdWords has proved to be the biggest revolution in advertising in the last 50 years.
Having been involved in regional advertising, and sales and marketing for a number of Fortune 500 companies and investment firms since 1980, and later embraced technology early on, as involved in the transition of moving many media companies to the web, and dot.com start- up businesses in 1999 when, as a publisher, taking real estate to the web.
Of course, if you were involved in this exciting time, we made the big bucks and everyone was so excited about IPO and potential shares were part of compensation package. However, unfortunately by 2001, most of all these companies were closing, so had to put my skills to use in other areas of the web.
Since 2007 have been working with many companies with their online marketing strategies in the real estate and hospitality industry. From SEO/SEM, content strategy, web design, content management, revenue management, online media marketing, Google Ad Words, analytics, campaigns, Omniture, Travel Sponsored ads, and managing hundreds of websites—we all have one common goal --to get the best ROI for our clients and highest conversions.
Years ago when handling a one client’s $25MM marketing budget and a third party sponsored ads at the tune of $150 CPC, you have to know what you are doing, as you see the results on a daily basis, as the travel industry is immediate with bookings. Constant education is imperative to keep up with best practices, changes, and trends.
A lot of the content in the book was repetitive for me; as am more advanced, and some of it is already outdated, as changes daily; however, always looking for new ideas and proven successes.
Would recommend the book for smaller businesses and those who are beginners looking to learn more and educate themselves about Google AdWords, and online tools, terms, and techniques for their marketing plan. Would have preferred more of a technical style versus, selling style.
Even though this book covers only basics of Adwords, it actually highlights a very important and simple strategy how to manage your accounts without losing money and potential web traffic. A good read for those who starts working with Search or those who wants to recall basic tips and tricks.
"The Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords: How to Access 100 Million People in 10 Minutes" by Perry Marshall is a phenomenal book. The book is well written, well organized and easy to follow. The information is action packed and leads you step-by-step in creating your own profitable Google AdWords account.
In his book, Mr. Marshall provides great tips and insights. Some of the key things you will learn include:
1. How to Build Your Very Own Google Campaign from Scratch - the Right Way. You will learn how to tell if a market is for you. You will see how to set up your campaign and tweak it for maximum effectiveness.
2. How to Pay Less and Get More Clicks - See how to organize your campaign and use split testing to determine which ads are producing the best results. Find the best keywords and how to eliminate keywords that aren't working.
3. How to Develop High Quality Keyword Lists and how to Craft Killer Headlines - Perry will teach you how to "research" keywords and get rid of visitors who waste your time. You will also discover how to write "killer" ad copy that grabs your visitors attention and begs them to click your ad.
4. How to Develop Your Very Own "Unique Selling Proposition" (also known as USP) - Discover how to create your very own USP. Perry will teach you how to create a "catchy" one sentence USP that tells customers what separates you from the competition and why they should do business with you.

7. And so much more!
I can truly say that this 306 page masterpiece is one of the top 3 business books I have ever read. If you are trying to establish or improve your online presence, you need to pick-up a copy of this book. You will get back your $24.95 investment (retail price) in no time.
I have not spent a dime on Yellow Page advertising for at least five or six years after having an almost $30K annual expense with them and feeling totally abused.I have been using Google Adwords as my primary advertising program for several years for my business and feeling like I was doing pretty well with it. If I was doing well, the well just got much deeper!
This book began to make me money the first time I went to the computer armed only with the first few chapters and the butterflies in my stomach! I have not been this excited about marketing in a while. I read the book in a matter of days and have implemented many of the strategies authors Perry Marshall and Bryan Todd present. The results were immediate and dramatic.
By taking ad groups that had been performing fine and using their "peel and stick" method, to move poorly performing keywords and create new ad groups with the better performing keywords; I have in many cases doubled and tripled my click through rate. This has allowed me to bid higher, gaining better position leading to even higher click through rates. Google then rewards this "relevance" with lower "price per click" for my adds!
I have always thought of myself as a competent copy writer but with the guidance I received from Marshall and Todd and the "split testing" technique they promote, my adds have never been better.
Bottom line, this book will make you money! I could not recommend this book any stronger for any business owner that uses the internet to market their goods or services. If I could give it ten stars I would.
The Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords is a well-informed guide providing great strategies, tools and techniques required to enjoy success with Google's advertising program. The book covers invaluable topics including how advertisers can build competitive campaigns, and how they can enhance their visibility at the search engine. Other things to learn from this book are strategies for improving CTRs, increased traffic as well as impressive sales.
If there is one book that I can recommend to online advertisers, it is this one. Perry Marshall and Brian Todd are experts on Google AdWords program, and the book is rich with well-researched techniques. While you can learn the technical bits anywhere, what really impressed me about the book is that it lays out a systematic approach of applying AdWords to meet your online marketing goals. Whether you are already using Google's advertisement program - AdWords or are just getting started, I would recommend that you start with this book.
The only thing I would suggest is that you follow what the guide proposes to really see the results. Many marketers have used AdWords with no substantial success because the strategies are not always apparent. However, Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords will help any internet marketer leverage the optimal results that are possible with AdWords.
A thoroughly recommend this book to any sole trader or big business who uses Google Adwords to advertise their prodicts or services. I had been using Google Adwords for about 2 years before I bought this book - just had the bare minimum on there and just let it tick along and I did get clients from it. But then when a local organisation started running workshops for fellow hypnotherapists on how to optimise their google adwords campaign (and I couldn't make it), I thought I had better buy a book and optimise it my self to ensure I wasn't missing out. The book was easy to follow and to understand but I think it does require some technical knowledge (or at least be comfortable using the computer) in order to put things in place. Since following this book, my average cost per click has gone down significantly and the number of people who click through to my site has increased and I have definitely seen an increase in the number of people contacting me and booking appointments. Very pleased with this book.
There are countless small details to focus on when setting up ad campaigns. Getting one or two details wrong can cost you time and money. Today, I just finished reading Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords: How to Access 100 Million People in 10 Minutes (Ultimate Series) by Perry Marshall, Mike Rhodes, and Bryan Todd. This book is now a valuable asset to my library. The Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords provides clear instruction for setting up different types of Google ad campaigns. Additionally, the guidance provided will help you set up smart campaigns regardless of the platform. If you are doing Google ads, you definitely need to invest in this book. Read more
An excellent resource to understanding and taking up the reins of Google AdWords marketing. So much information is provided in an easy to read format. The techniques described seem like they would serve any business well. There were one too many shameless plugs for Perry Marshall's paid materials, but the authors are sales experts, so what can you expect? Too bad they didn't catch the website typo on the very first preface page that prevents book purchasers from accessing the paid materials website. Splitting word hyphens in print sure can wreck havoc on URLs...
After following the advice contained in this book, I more than tripled the conversion rate on an Adwords campaign that had been running for a while and dropped our cost per lead by 50%. Reading this book won't make you a master of Adwords, but it is a solid foundation on which to base your campaigns.
. If you are new to online advertising and marketing, the information the book is comprehensive enough to orient you to how most of the online marketing works and you can use this information more or less to every other advertising network online. ~ http://bookreviews.infoversant.com/ul...
A very general guide that is good for beginners bit not enough in-depth information about any one particular topic. I wish there was more information on how to best organize and lay out AdWords ad groups and campaigns. Also, the author repeatedly and blatantly advertises his website and the resources that are available on it, but those resources don't prove to be very helpful.
