Having read and thoroughly enjoyed books 1 to 3 of this series, I couldn't wait to read book 4, the last one, to find out how it all ends.

I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this, as much as I have the previous 3 books, the stories just keep better.  I love how two of the characters from previous books that had small parts to play have now become the main characters in this final story. The author definitely likes to shake things up and keep you on your toes. You never know whats going to happen next.

I totally love that the previous characters that got killed off/died still play a part in the story but as ghosts, it's brilliant and imaginative.

One of my favourite parts in the story is when the ghosts swim with the whales, so random but I loved it.

As for the ending, I kind of guessed how it was going to end but I wasn't expecting the clever little twist at the very end which leads one to believe there may be a 5th book to the series in the future, how very exciting.

With new servants to do their evil bidding, Tile X and Joe embark on another killing spree in the latest paranormal thriller in the hugely entertaining and original Hostile Series. This time, two police officers, used to solving murders not initiating them, add a new dimension to the mix.

Written with great wit, humour and style, Joy Mutter’s down to earth writing makes the unusual seem perfectly normal. Add the inventive twists and ideas, the cast of great characters, battling to defeat the evil masters, and the scene is set for yet another entertaining and thought-provoking story.

While you don’t need to read the previous novels in the series to enjoy this one, why deny yourself the pleasure of some terrific stories, filled with characters and plots you’ll soon warm too?

Retired Irish cop John and young DCI Damon become the unlucky recipients of Joe and Tile X - two deadly bathroom tiles whose hideous demands on the unfortunate men seem unstoppable. Forced to hand over the names of individuals for the deadly tiles to slaughter (in a variety of interesting ways), the pair strive to find a means of overcoming their predicaments. With the threat of painful repercussions if they don’t deliver the goods, is there anything the hapless twosome can do to liberate them from the lethal menace?

‘Confronting the Hostile’ is book 4 in The Hostile series and is as unusual a paranormal crime thriller as you’ll ever come across. Joy Mutter continues the story of the ever-expanding group of ghosts who track the tiles and their murderous ways from Manchester to Ireland, and manages to come up with yet more spectacular deaths and masterful massacres.

Part horror, part macabre comedy, the series works best when read in sequence. As I’ve said before, Ms Mutter has a knack of writing interesting, believable characters and this episode is no different. Lord only knows what she’ll come up with next, but I guarantee, it won’t be for the fainthearted.

Tile X & Joe have new people to torture, grown up men, 1 a retired police officer & 1 a working officer. Handy with all those names to add to the Tiles murderous choices.

This book did not dissapoint. The story deepens and we learn about the spirits and as they're group grows, what they get up to. The tiles as always, wicked but tempting.
I really enjoy these books. They've caught my imagination big time. Joy is an original writer and these books just keep on making me want more! Bizarre but bloody good and enticing!

The incredible adventure continues in Book 4 of the series. Now Tile X joined by another evil entity are playing deadly games with John, a retired cop John and Damon, a DCI from Liverpool. The author links horror and supernatural in a heart stopping thriller. You can read this book as a stand alone, but truthfully, you are going to want to gab all four books in this unique collection.

This is the last of the Hostile series which has a stupendously monstrous conclusion. I'm not going to go into detail about the plot because it could be a spoiler for the earlier books. Having bought the books individually, I'm going to recommend that readers purchase the box set, because after reading the first book you will be wanting more.
What was special for me about the series was that each book is not more of the same, the story steps up to new horrors beyond the realms of nightmares. However, there is a lot of humour in this book, and the ghosts interactions with each other are dead funny (excuse the pun). I can't think of any book that I could compare this to which makes it unique, and as an avid reader, uniqueness is what I crave.
I have a long to be read list ahead of me, but I'll certainly be adding author Joy Mutter somewhere near the top of that list. Joy by name and a joy to read.

Interesting ending to a very creative and imaginative series. I still wish more was known about The Host and The Hostess and everything going on there, but in all a good way to wrap this up. Also wish the ghosts could have done more than just observe! Was hoping there was a way they could discover they could actually do things in the end, but alas, it was not meant to be.

Great ‘ending’ to the story although there could be another one….. I really enjoyed this series. Explaining it to anyone would sound strange and probably not as great as it actually is. Ghosts, demonic tiles, unknown entities controlling people, good cops doing bad things to bad people…. Just loved all of it.
Once again Alexander Doddy did an excellent job narrating.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
