I read the Karate book in this series, now for the Kung Fu book.
In one way they follow a similar structure in terms of the topics they covered but they are very different books. This book is far more detailed in terms of explaining moves however it does not have the pictures (figures) that show the step-by-step process in each move. But I found the explanations extremely good.
I felt the tournament section a bit light-on, almost dismissive, given that it's on the front of the book some people may find it disappointing. The section on safety was not a bad idea but rather detailed given that it's on generic treatment of muscle injuries rather than kung fu generally - I would not get my info on how to treat a sprain out of a kung fu book.
I would have preferred a bit more on the traditional terminology. But it was a good starter book otherwise. I think the challenge was that there are so many styles of kung fu that it had to go wide and generic and could not put in a whole lot of detail about one area without alienating others. Not a bad job.
