EQ and Compression are the two most important tools in a mix engineers arsenal. Many producers and engineers find it difficult to know when and how to use them together. Often times they are used too much, or at the wrong times. At an advanced level mixing and engineering should be a simple and intuitive process. This book was created to clear up any confusion regarding EQ and Compression as well as to streamline your mixing process so you get better results not only faster, but more enjoyably and intuitively.
I’ve been doing this stuff for almost 20 years and I still got a lot out of this. I enjoy learning new workflows and things being explained in different ways. I buy lots of books and magazines to always be learning. Most of the time I feel disappointed upon finishing them. That was not the case here. In fact, I’m going to read it again. For the price it absolute can’t be beat. Looking forward to reading his other offerings.
'at the end of the day we're all artists and we just want to make good music, so it's important to master these tools as quickly as possible.'
conceptual approaches to mixing served alongside profoundly simple but recalibrating adages. great for mixers that are either just beginning, or are guilty of seeing the forest for the trees.
I read a handful of books, I feel like this book is the perfect summery that I can refer to often. Also like he said his ideas allowed me to see the bigger picture. As much complicated theory’s I heard this made them easier to use.
I now better understand compression and how to use compressors.
The authors simple explanations helped me to better understand how to use compression in an everyday setting. My mixes are much better for it, the section on EQ is great as well.
What a great book. EQ and compression technique distilled to very direct and simple concepts and explanations. Highly recommend for people getting into music mixing.
