Rate this book

This book is third in a four book series, but the first I read. I was in a second hand book shop and debating whether to buy it, and I'm so glad I did!

I read this book in 2 days and found it hilarious and surprisingly relatable.

The main character, Luke, is in Year 11, like me. He's a swot, obsessed with his grades and is busy studying hard for his GCSEs. And then he gets bitten by a werewolf. He doesn't figure it out at first, but as the symptoms continue he finally decides to RSVP to a stranger who claims to know what is happening. From there he begins to learn to balance school life with werewolf life. This leads to some hilarious misunderstandings. It's a kids book but any exam pressured teen can appreciate it. Turns out being a werewolf can be hindrance to school success.

But the worst is yet to come... The impending vampire/werewolf war! Enter Nigel, the Wimpy Vampire. The rest is for you to find out. I will say that being a werewolf ends up being good for Luke, he learns a little empathy and becomes a nicer person!

This was a comical, feel good read. It took me less than four hours to read and I loved every word. The writing style was enjoyable to read and the plot was fun, interesting and kept moving. The ending is brilliant and the book goes in to a lot of detail in the life of the main character, so we can empathise with him all the way through.

How is it relatable? As someone who stresses about grades, I can feel Luke's pain when he can't revise due to werewolf related issues. It also makes me feel better that I don't have such problems, and have enough time for school and hobbies :)

Quick, worthwhile read.

Recommend? 100%! This book is sweet, funny and overall feel good reading.

It was a good read while it had lasted. Good and quite a funny book to read, and to enjoy.
Quite quick to read and speed through the book. Writing was easy to understand and enjoy. Liked the little doodles that came in every page. Worth a read if your into supernatural things or werewolves in general.

Just one of the random books I used to buy because my 12 year old instinct said that Werewolves are damn good. If you are below a certain age like a 15 or 14, you'll enjoy reading it. Not a boring read but pretty dumb thinking back now.

The illustrations are funny.

I also liked how it has mentions of characters (“vumpires”) from one of my other favorite reads this year- Fortunately the Milk by Neil Gaiman.

It's a very funny book and the ending was very unexpected. I would've fought the vampires though. Although Luke didn't want to fight, it was cool how he beat both sides of the war while not fighting.

I loved this. I was in stitches as I read it. It’s a really quick read, I actually forgot how quick and easy these are to read. The writing is simple and it’s a very current book. A lot of the jokes are very 2011 meaning kids of today are going to feel included but I’m not sure what future generations will think of Poundstretcher, TOWIE (The Only Way Is Essex) and Justin Bieber. Actually, I’m so ashamed to live in the UK knowing that I share a country with them. Justin Bieber... let’s not go there. As for Poundstretcher. I love there, the duvets are a bit cheaply made though. Okay, off topic. Back to the book/ The plot is very simple but once again very amusing and incredibly easy to follow. I love how many series this books parodies and the thing is – it does it well. So many parodies take themselves too seriously but this one doesn’t make that mistake.

Luke – He’s our wimpy werewolf and boy is he geeky! I do like him though, he gets into some right old scrapes before he realises that he’s actually a werewolf. There were quite a few of my favourite Luke moments right there. I also loved his reaction to everyone’s favourite wimpy vampire, Nigel.

Chloe – Nigel’s ex girlfriend was of course turned into a werewolf in ‘Prince of Dorkness’, so I shouldn’t have been surprised to see her, but I was. In a good way of course. I love Chloe and the fact that she hasn’t changed is awesome. My favourite Chloe scene is near the end but I can’t tell you what it is because I don’t want to spoil it for you.

Nigel – I was so happy to see the return of Nigel and his, quite frankly, horrific poetry. I obviously adore Nigel (or I wouldn’t have bought this!) and I definitely think he’s hilarious. He’s the worst vampire to exist in the entire history of them but it’s part of his charm! My favourite Nigel moment is definitely that poetry. It’s so bad you just have to love it. (Although I want to know if it’s hard to write something that bad.)

Overall this is a hilariously funny, quick, entertaining read. I can’t think of one thing that I didn’t like about it. Actually I can. It’s too short. I need more Luke!! I need more Chloe!! Most of all though I need more Nigel!! They make an excellent trio and I for one enjoyed every moment of their latest escapade. I wish I was fictional so I could join them.

This is the second book by Tim Collins I have read. In many ways I enjoyed it even more than the first. The humor is very British, the wit cutting and the delivery near perfect. Collins delivers a hilarious book and a wonderfully cynical look at the mythology of the Vampire vs. Werewolf antagonism. Combine that with a few clan members of each species trying to form a commune-like peace movement to stop the impending battle that will launch a worldwide war is nothing but nonstop fun. This book will have you laughing out loud.

The story revolves around Luke Thorpe, a 15-year-old goody-two shoes, a school monitor, a student who excels, and plans his study prep weeks and months in advance. He has his next few years planned out, blazing a trail of academic excellence towards the goal of a career in politics. But soon strange changes start overtaking him, and not the normal kind that a 15-year-old boy goes through. From his body growing and shrinking beyond his control, he becomes much hairier, and he has a strength, speed and stamina previously unknown to him. At first he believes he has rabies from a dog bite, but soon he discovers the truth and as he struggles to uncover his werewolf roots, he meets a girl, joins a pack, and finds himself chosen to be a main character in a war between vampires and the pack. You will also see a familiar wimpy Vampire.

This book was a very fun read. I highly recommend it. It is strong enough to stand alone but the humor only snowballs as you read the other books in the series in conjunction. So give it a try and rink up the fun! Cheers.

Exciting book with a hilarious ending. Luke, a 15 year old straight A student, gets bitten by a werewolf and it turns all his studies upside-down. Instead of getting straight A's he now gets all C's because he has to go to werewolf training every day. After that a battle with a vampire makes him late to his exams and that doesn't end well. Recommended to kids 12 and above who liked Jeff Kinney; it's Wimpy Kid with a 'bite'!

This was a 99p kindle book and I really enjoyed it. Kind of like Adrian Mole, I guess. Really easy and quick read and an interesting subject (werewolves and vampires)

An Adrian Mole style story, nothing really too complex in the story, a few laughs here and there, probably won't read any more of the series
