With only 112 pages in a small form factor this book can only say so much. There is little science involved and it appears the book is based on Keith Smith's observations of the millionaires he has interacted with. However, with those caveats, it actually has some great insights and concepts I will consider as I look toward building a successful life. Following are the 10 distinctions and some of my key takeaways.

The 10 Distinctions

10. Millionaires think long-term. The middle class thinks short-term.

9. Millionaires talk about ideas. The middle class talks about things and other people.
- "Millionaires talk about ideas and making things happen. The middle class talks about thinks and watches things happen." "There are three types of people, those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who say what happened."

8. Millionaires embrace change. The middle class is threatened by change.
- Sometimes we don't know what we can do until we have to. Ask someone to think back to a difficult time of his life, when life threw him a curve-ball. He will probably say, "It was the best thing that ever happened to me."

7. Millionaires talk calculated risks. The middle class is afraid to take risks.

6. Millionaires continually learn and grow. The middle class thinks learning ended with school.
- "Millionaires focus on personal growth. They believe that to have more, they must become more. They see growing as one of the main purposes of life ... Millionaires read books about money and how to build better relationships. They read about the power of the mind. They read about the successes and failures of others."

5. Millionaires work for profits. The middle class works for wages.
- "Profits are the result of buying something for one price and selling it for a higher price. Millionaires are in the sales business."

4. Millionaires believe they must be generous.
- "Being generous is a witness to others of kindness and love. It benefits the giver as much, maybe more than, the receiver."

3. Millionaires have multiple sources of income. The middle class only has one of two.
- "Millionaires have uncommon wisdom; they do not increase their spending when their income increases, they increase their investing."

2. Millionaires focus on increasing their net worth. The middle class focuses on increasing its paychecks.
- "Almost all millionaires receive passive income from real estate ... I suggest you read books on real estate until you become knowledgeable enough to take action and start investing in it.

1. Millionaires ask themselves empowering questions. Middle-class people ask themselves dis-empowering questions.
- "The questions you ask yourself determine the results you get in your life ... Empowering questions allow you to reach your full potential."

Nine Empowering Questions that everyone must answer in order to achieve true success and happiness:

What kind of person do I want to be?
Why do I want to be that kind of person?
How can I become that kind of person?

What do I want to do?
Why do I want to do it?
How can I do it?

What do I want to have?
Why do I want to have it?
How can I create it?

Make sure you keep these questions in the "be, do, have" order. The type of person you want to be should determine what you want to do and have. Being a millionaire is about being, doing, and then having.

Exceeded the expectations. Perhaps a little too extreme with certain white/black statements, but in overall — powerful little book, worth taking notes from.

"Millionaires play to win. The middle class plays not to lose. Can you imagine if a football team played defense the entire game? Their chance of winning would be zero."

I enjoyed this little book. Although the author seems to have based the book solely on his opinion and experience with his millionaire friends, I can appreciate his stance and think he's mostly point. There is a lot of good info packed into the 112 pages that's definitely worth your time. If you're looking for specific things to work on to become attuned to an abundance-based way of thinking, which is what I equate millionaire to mean, this is a quick, yet powerful read to help you on your journey. I'm adding this to my book collection for future use.

I am about halfway through this book and I find it preachy and obnoxious. Some of the suggestions and ideas are so common sense and kind of insulting to people who are in a less than advantageous situation. This book is written from a place of privilege and not a place of understanding.

Edited to add: I believe there’s a better way this whole approach could’ve been presented. Something didn’t sit right with me on how accusatory some of the approaches sounded.

Author explains that he wrote this book in a week. He says that there are...FIVE TYPES OF PEOPLE and then he goes on to list them. He shares ten ideas from ten to one about thoughts/feelings/beliefs/behaviors that people can utilize in their lives in an effort to rise above their current existence and shares how the wealthy behave as opposed to the not wealthy. Some are insightful and some I wonder about. Decide for yourself.

Not just a book about money, but about life in general and how to live it successfully. You could really change the title to "The Top 10 Distinctions Between Successful and Unsuccessful People" Short and sweet, easy to read, not a lot of specific advice, but great food for thought.

The Top 10 Distinctions Between Millionaires and the Middle Class by Keith Cameron Smith
+114-page Kindle Ebook 130 pages total

Genre: Nonfiction, Personal Finance, Economics, Psychology, Self-Improvement

Rating as a movie: PG-15 for adult situations

Quotes: Society can be broken down into five groups of people: the very poor, poor, middle class, rich, and very rich. Each group of people thinks differently about money. Very poor people think day to day. Poor people think week to week. Middle-class people think month to month. Rich people think year to year. And very rich people think decade to decade.

There are three primary goals that can be found in the mind-sets of these five social groups. The primary goal for very poor and poor people is survival. The primary goal for middle-class people is comfort. And the primary goal for the rich and very rich is freedom.

The reason that very poor and poor people seek to survive and the middle class seeks to be comfortable is because they have a scarcity mentality. They believe there is not enough money for everyone to have more than enough. The rich and very rich know the truth: there is enough money for everyone to have more than enough.

What you believe about money has everything to do with how much money you will make. If you have a scarcity mentality, then you will seek to survive or just have enough to be comfortable. If you have an abundance mentality, you will seek freedom. The old saying “Seek and you will find” is true when it comes to your finances. You really do get what you look for in life. If you seek to survive, you will. If you seek to be comfortable, you will be. If you seek freedom, you will find it.

There is power in long-term thinking. It can and will make you rich if you make it a habit.

My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🤑

My thoughts: This is a very good book. I could reread it every day for 21 days. I might just do once a month as he recommended. It's a very quick read, but I have thousands of books I want to read. I think either Dave Ramsey read this book, this guy is friends with Ramsey, or both. This isn't my first time with this conversation but it's explained well here.

Recommend to others: Yes. I'm not planning on rereading this book for nothing, there is good information here.

Skip the "generosity" chapter. His version of generosity is greed presented as patriarchal benevolence for sprinkling a few dollars and "lessons" onto those in poverty. He frequently cites tax avoidance as a money-earning scheme. His lack of citizenship or desire to help others is eerie and disappointing.

That said, the rest of the book had clear, actionable, and digestible concepts to start earning more, and I plan to revisit it. He's a strong writer and I believe his roadmap to his success. It helped me reflect on some of my own money mindsets and whether they are holding me back. Much to learn, and a few things to ignore.

Quick read and worth it! If you want to have not only a rich life but a fulfilling life this author gets it and you will too after you read.

Some distinctions:

- wealthy ppl think in the long term (in years), middle class things month to month, super wealthy think in even longer terms (10 years!)

- work a job to buy assets that produce income, shift from paycheck to profit

- ask yourself empowering questions! Instead of, “why this happening to me?” —> “what is the lesson here?”

Amazing book, it's nothing that you haven't already heard, but the delivery was impeccable. A great reminder book that is short and to the point. I would have given it 5 stars had the author not felt the need to mention race in some of his reference stories. I don't understand why or how this was relevant to the point being made. I deducted a star for racial bias, but other than that, it's worth the read. Perfect bathroom book.

This is a great intro book for someone who is just starting a business and wants to know the ins and outs. Every business has to start with the basics – foundation – mindset. I was so pleased that it was short, straight to the point, and the Keith Cameron Smith was transparent with the reader. There was also a lot of explanation which helped me understand better. The concept Keith Cameron Smith was trying to relay.

From my point of view, I don't really like this book. It's written from the author's opinion, not much others experiences. I think the book tends to appreciate money. However, there still are some advices very useful for me, such as the distinction no.9, no.6 and no.1 about the millionaires idea, knowledges and way of thinking.

The book is quite simple and basic. It's like a list of differences between the rich and the poor (actually, the middle class), and that's all. A lot of things we can read from newspapers and journals.
The author doesn't discuss and analyze comprehensively on each topic, he perhaps wanna show some hints for readers to look for more if they want to.

Written in a week (according to author) & it shows. Extreme ‘by rich old dude for other rich dudes’ vibe; full of bragging about how rich people are just better than the middle class & how he himself is a prime example of this.

Not worth it, had a big laugh when he recommended to read this book every month. Some good ideas, but very general & there’s way better out there.

A slim and compact book that can be completed in a couple of hours time in one sitting. I took a couple of days to go through it, taking time to ponder over some of the points made and reflect on them for a while. Worth re-reading and thinking over.

Simple yet eye opening

Keith gets to the heart of why millionaires are millionaires and everyone else isn't. It is all about the questions I asked myself, who I want to be an then doing all I can to get there. Including internalizing what this short book offers.

I didn’t expect much given the tacky title and it didn’t deliver much. While the author noted certain principles that are true and good, the explanations are too self-centered, shallow and anecdotal.
