Disappointing read. While there are some good tidbits and parts that provide good recommendations, the book is basically a list of suggestions and without any real supporting evidence or data. The author really pushes the "get tough" mentality and leans heavy into that idea to project authority and credibility but again there is no real supporting evidence to show how or why the things he recommends work.

The author is also very big on "results" and eliminated and human element to his approach to people.

1) Set clear expectations
2) Hold accountable
3) If they don't perform get ride of them and move on.

That's basically the just of it. It felt like a cold approach and while hinting at employees having unique motivations and drives, he doesn't go into that at all but suggests everyone is motivated by results, which is not fully or always true. Simply put the approach offered seemed pretty one dimensional and did not provide a well rounded view of leadership.

The book also repeats the same ideas over and over again and it becomes redundant.

If you are looking for a list of recommendation for "leading" without any supporting data or information, like to hear the same ideas repeated at nauseum, and want to treat others as "human capital" (as the author repeatedly likes to say) rather than people. You will probably like this book.

With that said this book is definitely geared toward those in leadership who are overly kind or nice and struggle with the "harsher" aspects of leadership, and the offer pushes that mentality which could be beneficial to those who need to hear a more tough love approach. As someone who probably leans toward the tough love direction to much (and knows I need more of the "soft" approach) it felt over the top. Not my first recommendation for leadership reading by a longshot.

It’s Not Rocket Science 4 Simple Strategies for Mastering the Art of Execution is hands down one of the best business books I have ever read and should be required reading for anyone in a leadership role. The author breaks the book up into four sections (process, leaders, culture, and team). Each section supports converting your vision and strategies into results. The author takes a no-nonsense actionable approach to leading, hiring, accountability, staff development and much more. This book is full of tools, checklists, and analogies to support implementing these ideas. This is one of the most unknown books on my list this year, and I cannot recommend it enough.
