A good introduction in research design. I found useful the clear cut distinction of the approaches to ontology and epistemology along at Part II as well as the last Part which explained the structure-agency issue. I did not like the chapter on quantitative methodology, it was rather biased. Moreover, I found that the criticism on Gidden's structuration theory was not robust and the insistence that Archer provided a more meaningful model for the relationship between structure and agency was not convincing. I will try to find the relevant books to read them myself anyway.

A very thorough and concise introduction that explains well the advanced topics presented and offers good summaries for simpler topics; the scope of the information encompasses a wide array of ideas and methods, political science, omitting very few of the major theories relevant to the field that upon a second glance would not have been relevant or general enough to merit inclusion.
