Before long, the two are on a collision course, but also secretly looking at more than each other’s digital footprints.

Kylie and Luke intrigued me. they were complete opposites and yet they totally fit into each other’s world. Kylie helped Luke open his eyes to women in tech but also to the world of hackers and cyber security. She helped him see what was needed to protect a company and people’s livelihood.

Luke was a honorable man. He was kind and sweet. Honest as well. Kylie was a woman who challenged him but also intrigued him. They didn’t meet in the best of circumstances but once the initial situation was dealt with we see Luke really trust and take Kylie into his guidance. She becomes a trusted ally for luke but more as well. His attraction to her is through the roof and so is his respect for her. She teaches him about the world of computer security and what it is like to be a woman in that world. She shows him she is strong and smart but also opens his eyes to the world of hackers. Luke is fighting unknowns on two fronts. In the computer world and in the outside world. The company he works for is having their security breached and he doesn’t know why or what it is about. he doesn’t quite understand that world but Kylie helps him there. The other attack is more personal and it began when Kylie helped Luke with the breach at Afire. That attack escalates over time and is one Luke knows more about and is comfortable with. It is this attack that brings Kyle and Luke closer. He is there to protect her but also gets to know her as well.

Kylie is a smart sassy independent woman. she has fought her way to where she is and now wants to fly under the radar. She is great at computers and when someone messes with the system where she is,she gets involved inadvertently. Only this leads to a misunderstanding and brings Luke to her door. This is where the sparks fly. We get some great banter and the tenison can be cut with a knife. Luke though doesn’t back down and instead takes control and does what is right when it comes to Kylie. He keeps his mind open and she lets him in. together they work to catch the hacker but also the one on the outside putting them in danger while falling in love. As they do this they challenge each other with their investigative skills and give us some wild sexy moments as well. when Luke is put in a tough spot, Kylie understands but doesn’t back down. It is Luke who shows her there are other ways to do things and that he loves and respects her mind and what she wants to do.

The story is sassy, fun, adventurous and intriguing. The characters have you love them instantly and their relationship is one that grows and isn’t instant love. You see them grow and learn about one another. They show each other trust and respect. Love and support but they also challenge one another and have them push each other to grow and learn. a wonderful love story that has you from the beginning and keeps you to the end.

I discovered Ms. Dean years ago when I found and read her High School Reunion. I absolutely loved it and while I always meant to read her again, I hadn’t really gotten around to it. But when I saw Hacking IT and realized that she was in fact the right Kimberly Dean, I was so excited to read it. It was a little bit of a wait getting Hacking IT, but once I did, I started it that very night and I completely, positively LOVED it — it was just wonderful!

And speaking of wonderful, our hero and heroine were just that! I loved both of them a lot, but I have to say that Kylie was my favorite, so we’ll start with Luke. Luke is just great, he’s easily the kind of hero that you fall in love with. He’s protective and possessive and you never have to doubt his feelings for Kylie or that he’d do whatever he had to do to protect her. He’s sweet and supportive and he doesn’t try to hold Kylie back. Luke is a dream, he’s without a doubt sigh-worthy, and he totally stole my heart.

But while I loved Luke, he didn’t compare to just how awesome Kylie was. Seriously that woman is a BOSS and the bomb all rolled it into one! She’s wicked smart, unapologetically sassy, and incredibly fierce. Kylie is strong and passionate and protective. She is an amazing, amazing heroine and she is definitely one of my favorites — I won’t forget her!

I can’t believe that it’s been so long since I’ve read one of Ms. Dean’s books, but I’m glad that Hacking IT was the one that re-introduced me to her! It was an exciting, entertaining, absorbing read and I couldn’t get enough. It was full of heat, action, and bad-it-rhymes-sassery. I wholeheartedly loved, loved, loved it and I can’t wait to read the next book or any other book by Ms. Dean!

Hacking IT is the first book in The Hackers series, it’s told from Luke and Kylie’s POV, and they do get their happily-ever-after.

Have you ever seen the description of a book and known immediately that it was going to be awesome and upon reading it were faced with the possibility that it might actually be better than you originally thought? For me, that book was Hacking IT by Kimberly Dean. A female white hat hacker using her skills to uncover a black hat hacker, who has stepped away from his computer and entered the real world? Um, yes, please.

The Review:

I love trying new-to-me authors, which thanks to Netgalley has become much easier than it used to be. Before I started writing reviews for it, I rarely tried an author I'd never read before because books are expensive and bad books felt like I was throwing my money away. With a price of $3.99 in digital, I might have pulled the trigger on Hacking IT, but chances are I wouldn't have even seen it had it not been for Netgalley.

What I really enjoyed about Hacking IT was that Ms. Dean was able to pull me in from the first page and kept me engaged until the end. Some of my favorite authors haven't been able to do that lately (looking at you About That Kiss), so I was very pleased that this one did.

On top of that, this book, coming in at just 163 pages, feels like a whole book. Many novellas suffer from their lack of length, but Hacking IT isn't one of them, and it actually felt as if it was longer (in a good way!) than it was.

I think the best thing about this book, and the thing at which Ms. Dean excels, is creating tension--both sexual and otherwise. It isn't good enough to have the narrator tell us that the characters are worried (because of course, they're worried--someone is stalking them), but Ms. Dean manages to make you feel their fear. This is something that not everyone can do and Ms. Dean does this with tremendous skill.

My one issue, and the reason I knocked off half of a star, is that the mystery was too easily solved. I figured it out fairly quickly and kept wondering how anyone as smart as these characters were could have missed it. This isn't that big of a deal, but it is annoying. The main part of romantic suspense is keeping the reader in suspense and because I was so easily able to figure out who the stalker was I wasn't in suspense. Just a little more subtlety would have sufficed, however, even with a not so mysterious mystery this book succeeds where many others don't.

I received a kindle copy of this book through a giveaway and am giving an honest review of the item in return.

Pros: I enjoyed this book quite a bit, Luke's character more than Kylie's (but that's probably because he sounded hot). However, I did like Kylie's character for her sass, her complete devotion and love of her work, and also for the twist that came with her later in the story. I enjoyed the fact that she was written to be a genius hacker and that Luke was written as the bodyguard, that they operated in two different worlds but were still at the top of the game in their respective worlds. I also liked that Luke was very real; not every male HAS to be so knowledgeable in IT. He was written to not understand half of what Kylie knew and it really made him a character I could relate to.

Cons: If I had to read ONE MORE TIME about how they had so much static and sparks and how there was electricity between them, I was going to hurl my kindle at the wall. I love my kindle, please don't make me do that. Also, I understand how few women there are in the STEM fields. I am a woman in a STEM field. I didn't need it to be drilled in my head so much throughout the entire book. Lastly, the villain of the story was not a surprise at all and was actually a bit of a let down. I don't want to spoil anything but suffice to say that the way the book ended just seemed like a throw away ending.

All in all, I recommend this book. I did read it in basically a day and a half so I enjoyed it immensely. But there were a few hiccups that kept this from a five-star.

I was sent this book in part of a blog tour. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

This cover is stunning! That with the addition of the synopsis, and I knew I wanted to be a part of this blog tour and see what Hacking It was all about. I was not left disappointed.

First off, this book is very short as it is less than 200 pages. It is something that will be great to grab for readathons or when you are in the mood to devour a book in one sitting. I appreciated that the story still came together within the shortness of the book, and I was not left feeling like there was too much or too little to the characters and plot.

I loved that this was around hacking and computers. I also loved how this shows a very strong and smart female lead within Kylie. I am recently come to realize I really enjoy romantic suspense, so this was just what I needed at the time. This is also pretty steamy, which I could personally do without (but it was not too bad and did not overtake the story).

Overall, I really enjoyed this.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I really enjoy romantic suspense books so this book was great and hard to put down. It is intriguing as you watch Luke and Kylie grow close and act on their attraction while they try to figure out whose behind the hack.

It is nice when there is a plot that allows readers to have a chance to figure out who is the bad guy and the motivation behind it. I won't say any more about that and give away any spoilers.

There was a major difference that Luke and Kylie had to face about their beliefs and how it would affect their relationship. I was pleased that they could talk it over and find that they could each give a bit so they could be true to who they really were and yet respect each other's convictions.

The little teaser for the next book sounded good and I love that Luke and Kylie were still showing up in the book! Love that Josie is featured next!

* I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own *

This is the story of Kylie Grant, who being a software developer know all the ins and outs of the IT world and when comes across an issue in her building with the lighting she discovers someone has hacked into the building sytems.
In comes Luke McAllister , he is the chief secutiry officer and it seems that he is accusing Kylie of the security breach. Kylie and Luke’s chemistry is electrifying and even though Luke has come to take Kylie in, there is also that attraction and protectiveness that he feels for her and he decides to join in and help find this Black Hat Hacker.
This was a great story, with a strong female lead and some hot and steamy romance going on there.
Look forward to the next instalment by Kimberly Dean.

I completely enjoyed this geeky romantic suspense! The author did a great job in showing how kick butt women are in they cyber world when it doesn't seem to 'fit' them. I loved how quirky Kylie was and how much she enjoyed what she did. Not only that, but she loved helping people. Luke is a hottie and completely smitten.

Their first meeting was great. I was sitting there giggling as I read because I 'saw' it play out in my head and it was just too good. After that, the way they get together was believable. Their working together and each having their own expertise made it flow well and the overall story was good too.

It was a 4/5 for me. I truly enjoyed it and want to read the next in the series now!

I read a similar type book a few months ago. Yet, it was not as good as this book. Kylie and Luke worked well together. I like that Luke admired Kylie's intelligence. This book shows that there needs to be more female hacker stories. Women are just as smart. Kylie proved that in this story.

The romance between Luke and Kylie was hot. Yet, it did not overpower the story. In fact, there was no insta hook up. It was slow building. This made it more real when they did hook up. While, I did enjoy this story as well as the characters; the aspect of the hacking felt a little weak. However, the way Kylie and Luke stopped the hacking was cool. This was a nice read.

Thrown into the Hackers world was never so much fun. What could have been a dry read with all the technical jargon used and as a backdrop, in actuality was captivating and entertaining. As the reader, I felt connected to the characters and the situations as they unfolded. I truly enjoyed how the story evolved layer by layer, giving the reader a better understanding of technology and its pros and cons. Expertly weaving all aspects of the story and technology together in such as entertaining manner was genius. I look forward to the next installment of the series.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

If you like tech stuff, you'll love this story.

The beginning of this gets a little technical and has lots of tech/hacker jargon but, I was happy that I had heard of most of it even if I didn't understand it. Kylie is a super strong, intelligent, sexy woman hacker and holds her own throughout this book. Luke who was a Secret Service agent turned head security chief also holds his own in this story. It's a great suspense even though I had guessed one of the villains early. It's definitely an insta-love, possessive romance with a good HEA. One con was that there's little family background backstory. I did enjoy this and I do recommend it.

When company Afire is hacked it is discovered by Kylie, smart cookie and white hat hacker. At first Luke (head Security Officer at Afire) suspects Kylie of the hack, but she can disprove that. And sparks fly between them while they are searching for the hacker.

I liked the writing and the characters. I always love it when the woman is smart and is the best in her field.
The story in itself was rather simplistic in my view. It is a fast read, very well researched and with a believable romance.

*** I requested and received an ARC via Netgalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. The heroine and hero are both smart and capable in their fields. They also both understand that just because they are great at what they know, the other one has strengths they can use. I don't know if the hacking/computer security details are accurate or if the author took artistic license, but I enjoyed the details. There was a good suspense plot and the romance/sex arc worked well also. I look forward to more in the series.

lust, mystery and tons of romance

I thought this story was really romantic from the start. Kylie drew me in with her sarcasm and sassy attitude toward everyone no matter their status. The relationship was lust inducing and I was hooked. They were hot together and the sex scenes were well written.

The mystery of a who done it was vey well done. I had no idea until the end. I mean I was totally surprised when I saw who terrorized them. I am glad that they caught the guy.

This was a very quick read, but I loved the relationship between Luke and Kylie in Hacking IT. Hacking IT follows Kylie and Luke as they track a hacker through their company's computer system. It was very realistic to the problems faced in the IT field. It was really well written and I'm looking forward to Josie's story in the sequel.

Solid 3.5 star read for me -- This was a fast, quick read but an enjoyable one about a white hat hacker and a smart heroine which is always nice! Nice flow, good interaction between the characters and a somewhat believable storyline. Nice, quick read for an evening! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

I liked the characters and the plot of the story. But, I thought there were too many techie details - they kind of got in the way of the flow of the book for me. Overall, a good read and I do recommend this book.
