Charlotte Harrington is capable of love, but the feelings of love, of letting anyone close to her, scare her.

Seventeen-year-old Charlotte's life turns abruptly when her mother sends her away to spend the summer before college with her father—a man she knows nothing about and cares even less for. Thus, forced by a promise she made to her mom, and having secretly thrown her future away, Charlie finds herself stuck for an indefinite time in the coastal town of Rosetown. Raised by a single mother, Charlotte grew up to be an independent, suspicious, and lonely girl. To make matters worse, she is stubborn to the bone. Moving in with Daniel proves to be a challenge for both of them, as he will try his best to get to know her, and she will systematically undo his every attempt.

When Misha Breckenridge literally bumps into her life, along with his mesmerizing black eyes and his challenging ways, Charlotte finds herself stepping in quicksand. Despite her attempts to keep him —and every other person, for that matter—at a safe distance, Misha will soon find his way into her heart, making her lower her guard and open her long-closed heart to love.

As the summer unfolds, Rosetown and its memorable inhabitants inevitably start to grow on Charlotte. But, will she ever manage to forgive Daniel for walking out on her and her mother? Will she be able to let him into her heart and her life?

“That's what she sent me here for. To make sure she didn't leave me alone in the world.”
Just For A While is probably the most touching book I’ve read in a long time. Beautifully narrated in a third person point of view, it gives us insight to the mind and emotions of the different characters in the book, dragging us to the story and forbidding us to put the book down!

Now, I personally love stories that start with a journey! This one starts when Charlotte’s mom sends her away to live with her dad during the summer before college. And, as we witness the exterior –or physical– journey, we also witness the interior journey the characters go through during the book. Even before arriving in town, Charlotte is a complicated and angry teenager, who’s dealt with a fair share of unhappy events in her life, that led her to become strong, independent, detached and somewhat annoying. However, as the story unfolds, it’s easy to relate to her and to spot the kid underlying the woman she was forced to become.

As the summer kicks in, Charlotte has no choice but to settle into her new life–finding a job, making friends and trying to stay the hell away from Misha, the town’s hottie who seems to threaten her emotional safety.

And it’s through relating to the people she meets that she starts opening up to feelings and reconnecting with her one true passion–art. What she doesn’t know is that she inherited her artistic side from her dad.

Spending her summer days with Mischa and Olivia, Charlotte can’t help to discover a new side to her father, and even though she doesn’t think she can forgive him for being absent from her life, she will learn his side of the story. And, as usual, not everything is what it seems!

This Contemporary novel was dramatic, heart-warming and realistic all the way to the end. I loved Charlotte and Misha’s unique relationship ♥. I honestly feared a terrible ending to affairs, or a Hollywood-style ending, which would have been even worst, but I was nicely surprised.

Favourite quotes:
“She was great at concealing her feelings, at keeping a stone-face, and hiding all emotions.”
“Charlotte Harington was truly remarkable at keeping her distance from anyone who might jeopardize her emotional safety.”
“Disturbingly enough, his daughter reminded him only too much of himself.”
“I don't find life as... inspiring anymore.”
“Note to self: the mayor's daughter doesn't like being called the mayor's daughter.”
“Small town, people talk. And they have certainly been talking about you," he assured her with a wink.”
“I just hope you run this town better than you run your personal life.”

Just for A While has heart and soul. Within these pages you will find beauty, sadness, and hope. It will satisfy the contemporary lover in you!

This one was sad and heartwarming at the same time. I loved the engaging writing style and the depth of the story. It was fast paced and captivating, and the author did an excellent job of helping me visualize the story setting.

Just For A While was short and sweet, and felt like a Hallmark movie. It was a little predictable, and felt like it was inspired by several other contemporary stories, but it also held its own uniqueness. I really just loved how easy it was to read, and how emotional it was.

I found myself invested in all the characters. I was emotionally attached to Charlotte and rooting for her too find herself again. I was holding my breath, waiting for her and Daniel to form a father/daughter relationship. I enjoyed getting to know Anna and watching how she took care of Charlotte and Daniel. I fell for Misha and the way he put his sister first, and I became friends with Olivia and wanted to protect her like Charlotte did.

I loved the sweetness of this one. The ending felt a little abrupt, but it was a happy one. I don't have a habit of reaching for contemporary unless I am craving emotional depth and dimension, but this one satisfied that hunger. Just For A While touched on issues of teen pregnancy, feelings of depression, bipolar disorders, love, loss, heartache, a parent having cancer, and disconnected families. It was powerful and sentimental and would definitely recommend it!

'Just for a while' is simply a nice story and you pretty much get what you expect from reading the abstract. It's very easy-going and a perfect little summer read.

The only thing not necessarily bad, but really noticeable is the style of writing. It often feels translated word by word/ very not-written-by-a-native-speaker. (Unless this 'style' was intentional - then it's just weird.)

Fortunately, it was not too hard not to be too disturbed by this and keep the focus on the story itself.

Just For A While written by Zoe Haslie is a delightful YA Contemporary that teaches readers the importance of different aspects of love and relationship.

This is a story about a girl who finds herself in the least unexpected place. The plot started when Charlotte's mom sends her away to spend her summer with her father which she hasn't met since she was born. Stuck in a coastal town, she meets people who have great roles in changing her life.

This is one of the most heart-warming novels that I read. Written in a third person point of view, it is easy to get to know each character's thoughts and emotions. The pace of the story is perfectly timed, it wasn't too slow or too fast. The description of the scenes and places are on point. It quickly transports readers in a coastal, cheerful town on summer days. I love that it didn't focus on the romance between the main character and her love interest, but the story balanced the topic of family, friendship, self-discovery, and forgiveness. Also, the chemistry between Charlotte and Misha is undeniable. I like how they slowly get to know each other and eventually fall in love. Every scene between these two characters is just perfect. Lastly, the story has one of the sweetest endings that I have read.

For me, this book becomes so unique and special because of its colorful characters. Charlotte, the main character, dealt with difficult events in her life that completely changed her personality as well as her perspective towards her life and future. She became strong, independent, but also aloof and stubborn most of the time. Seeing Charlotte grew and reconnected with people in the town is adorable and so gratifying. I really love how her character developed. Next, Misha Breckenridge at first glance might be your average cute guy, but there is more depth to his character. He might look like a little too over-confident, but he is a loving and caring brother. He also learned to take care of himself at a very young age. (Definitely, Misha will be going to the top of my book boyfriend lists. Plus, he had the same name as Misha Collins. Lmao.)

Overall, Just For A While is a perfect, fantastic YA summer read. I hope this book will get a recognition it deserves.

I gave this book 5/5 stars.

Thank you so much, Zoe, for giving me an opportunity to read this wonderful book.

This was such a great book. I read it all in one sitting and I can’t remember the last time I was so drawn into a book that I didn’t put it down until it was over. This is a story of Charlotte finding herself, of her not being so scared of letting people in.

Charlotte’s mother gets news that her cancer is back. Instead of Charlotte taking care of her like she did last time, she sends Charlotte to live with her father for the summer. Charlotte has never known her father and doesn’t care to know him now. She does as her mother asks and goes to live with him. She gets a job and slowly makes a friend, Olivia. Olivia has a secret that Charlotte has to also keep once she finds out. Charlotte stays busy so she doesn’t have time to think about her mother and how she’s doing since she’s not allowed to contact her.

The local cutie, Misha, (old beyond his years, takes care of his family type) gets Charlotte to start hanging out with him. She likes him but doesn’t want to let him in. He understands her and works to get past her walls.

The romance never takes over the story line which happens in so many YA books. The romance actually takes a back burner to focus on Charlotte’s family.

A quick, easy read. Charlotte is forced to spend the summer with a father she has never met. Charlotte has had a difficult life, dealing with her mother's cancer. Now the cancer is back and Charlotte is sent away. When she moves to her new town, she also gets a new job. At first her co-worker, Olivia, and her don't get along, especially because charismatic, good looking Misha is always coming to visit Olivia. But summer is about to get a lot more interesting when Olivia let's Charlotte in on a huge secret. Keeping this secret puts all of her fragile relationships at risk. Misha and her father can't find out about any of this. But we all know what happens to secrets in small towns.

Charlotte is a flawed character which I enjoyed. She harbors typical teen emotions that are relevant to her life and upbringing. The story is focused on her inner growth and as she opens herself up to new relationships, trusting her father and letting go of some of the anger she has built up over the years. The story never feels deep beyond Charlotte's own character arc and sometimes things felt a little rushed. I would have liked to see the romance drawn out more with more tension but as a YA beach read this is the perfect read for a summer day.

Just for a While is a book that I wouldn't have picked up by myself, since I'm rarely interested in contemporary fiction or romantic stories, so I'm glad to have received a free copy of this book for review. It was such a light and pleasant read; I loved it.

It's the story of a teenage girl relearning to grow close to other people – meeting new friends, falling in love, and interacting for the first time with her biological father – and rediscovering things that used to be important to her, after being through some difficult moments in her life. It's a wholesome, uncomplicated and positive book. The characters were very human , they made mistakes and had flaws, but they were also kind, nice people. I wanted to read all about them. Even the romance bit, which isn't my thing, in the end was pure fluff that I couldn't help but liking.

I found a few continuity errors in my copy, and a few scenes that looked a little awkward, but they were minor things that didn't affect how overall adorable this book was.

Overall, I thought this was a well-written book. I enjoyed the heartfelt moments, the building of relationships, and the ending. This book filled with swoon-worthy moments that had me feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside. I felt the plot twist a bit last luster, and some parts could have developed more. I gave this book a four-star rating because of the areas that I felt could have been developed more. I think the author did a fantastic job on this book and the overall story-line is clear. I recommend this book to anyone interested in a heartfelt, family drama filled novel that follows the journey of a girl who just wants feel love.

Just For A While by Zoe Haslie is a sweet young adult romance that I really enjoyed. Charlotte is seventeen years old and has always lived with her mother, including her first fight with cancer. When the cancer comes back, Charlotte’s mom sends her to live with her father, that she doesn't know at all, while she goes to an inpatient treatment center. This takes place over the summer. Charlotte is angry, feeling alone, and resentful, in a new town. There is romance, friendship, and family that will lift your spirits. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a sweet young adult romance.

"Just For a While" was one of those books that just made my heart and soul get emotional. It was bittersweet at some points and heartwarming in others, but it was definitely hopeful.

I loved how Zoe, the author, wrote the all story because I could visualize it and I could understand the characters with every moment and with each page I read. And it certainly made me emotional right from the very beginning.

I found myself connecting with all the characters. I was feeling Charlotte's pain and I was so rooting for her to find herself again and I got even more excited as soon as she saw all the art materials. I had my fingers crossed waiting for Charlie and Daniel to form a father/daughter relationship and just thinking about my dad too. I was laughing with Anna because she reminded me of my aunt. I was loving Misha because of how kind he was and how he always thought of his sister. I befriend Olivia at the same time Charlotte did and found myself getting protective of her but at the same time thinking about slapping her too, then hugging her.

Charlotte is an artist and even though I'm not very artistic, I love to just stare at painting and just feel and not really think about life. I could relate to her because I'm a writer and we both create things from our hearts. Plus, my mom is everything to me too, she's the one person I know will always support me.

I can also relate to Misha, I didn't go to the University I wanted, to study Anthropology, because my family needed me. Thankfully the next year I applied to the local College in Leiria and I'm now on my last year. I'm the oldest, I'm the big sister to a 16year old teenage boy, so I'm very protective of him.

Those are just some reasons I could connect to them.

I was expecting more, I didn't want the book to end. I wanted to know that would happen to Olivia, I wanted to know about Charlotte and Misha's future... But that's the thing, when a book just clicks in our hearts, it makes us invested in the storyline and in the characters, and we don't want it to end. That's not a bad thing, it's actually a good thing.

This book touched a lot of topics, like cancer, disconnected families, teen pregnancy, depression, bipolar disorders, and of course love, friendship, trust, loss and finding ourselves. So, this book ended up making me think a lot.

It was a 5* read to me and I totally recommend it.

DNF at 15%.

I wanted to love this book, I thought the pretense was really great and I was excited to read it. However, when I actually read the book I had a few things that made it less than what I was hoping.

1. The writing feels juvenile. It's kind of choppy (at least in the ebook) and the paragraphs don't indicate when the narrative will be changing. Like all of a sudden we're in Daniel's head but in the sentence right before it, we were in Charlotte's.
2. Early on in the book, Charlotte lit a cigarette. At first, I couldn't really even figure out how old she was, but then as I read farther on I realized she was 17. For positive messages, a 17 year old should not be smoking a cigarette, and she's also not even legal to buy cigarettes. I liked that her character was set up for a redemption arc but some of her choices made it hard to love her, which meant her would-be redemption lost its effect.
3. It felt like Daniel was flirting with Anna and Anna was DEFINITELY married. His descriptions of her, at least in the beginning, were flirtatious and that's not sending a great message to readers either. Husbands mean that the woman of interest is off limits, and that should be clearly expressed (in my opinion).

Like I said, I really wanted to love this book and I was so excited for this lighthearted YA read (that I'd been so desperately looking for), but it didn't follow through on what I was wanting. This being said, this is my personal opinion and only reflects me, so other readers may really love this!

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC, all opinions are my own.

Hmm pretty good!!!

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2020...

••Spoilers, not that many, but a few•••

So when I first started this book, it was dulled in the beginning. But as I kept reading, it got good. I was stuck between good and ehh when it came to this book.

Was I disappointed in this book? No, because it kept my attention. No one annoyed me in this book lol. I only thought that Charlie could’ve given her father a chance in the beginning. But she was holding a grudge without even asking him his side. So many kids would love that. But at least, in the end, they ended up talking, and she forgave him & wasn’t so mad anymore about what her mom told her about her father.

Plus; Misha was mean to Charlie, I was glad he was man enough to have a talk with her about why he did what he did. Because I felt that he shouldn’t have got mad at Charlotte because she kept Olivia being pregnant from him. When she was only looking out for Olivia, I glad when he understood that and went back to get his girl because he knew that Charlotte the one for him not only that I hope that Olivia and Misha's mom comes around and become a better mother. Because that lady is horrible, especially when it came to her husband vs. her son smh 🤦🏽‍♀️... the way I saw it Daniel was the mother thought he was a father figure to them because their father died and he once dated their mother.

Besides that, I FREAKING love ❤️ Misha's name..😩

So this book is a really good book. Its narrated in third person point of view.

So the book starts when Charlotte´s mom send her away to live with her dad over the summer before she is starting collage. So she gets a job and new friends. And she meets this guy named Misha that she is trying to stay away from. He is the town´s hottie.

So she befriend this girl named Olivia. Charlotte and Olivia become friend and they talk about everything with each other. So Charlotte starts spending her summer days working and beeing with Mischa and Olivia. Charlotte can´t help but discover new side of her dad that she never seen before and she doesn´t think she can´t forgive him for being absent from her life. But she learns that everything is not what it seems to be!

This contemporary novel was really cute, heart-warming and dramatic. I loved the relationship between Charlotte and Olivia, true friendship. When the book ended you still wanted to know more. It feelt like a cute romantic movie. It was really easy to read. I was really invested in all of the characters. This book is also a perfect Summer read.

Quotes:
“Small town, people talk. And they have certainly been talking about you," he assured her with a wink."

Thank you so much, Zoe, for sending this book to me, and for giving me the opportunity to read this and give my thought on your book.

Disclaimer: I was gifted a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.

Just For A While tells the story of a 17 year old girl named Charlotte who is thrust out of the world she knows and away from the only parent she knows, to an unfamiliar town and a parent she wants nothing to do with. She’s very closed and weary of people (with good reason considering all the emotional turmoil she’s dealing with during the book) but she goes on a beautiful journey of learning to trust and let people into her heart.

I loved all the different relationships that develop throughout the course of this book and it was beautiful to see Charlotte grow and change and get to have the "normal" teenage experience. Her interactions with all the characters in Rosetown but particularly Olivia, Daniel and Misha pull at your heartstrings and I was so proud of how much Charlotte developed throughout the book. There's definitely a romance which is a driving part of the story but it doesn't take over at all and things stay well-balanced throughout the book.

Very much looking forward to future works by Zoe, this was a lovely end-of-summer read!

Just For A While is a nice, entertaining beach read, that makes you feel good. It took me about 4 hours to read, because it‘s so fluently written.

Here are some of my thoughts:

Pro

• Flawed characters with relatable problems and conflict of emotions
• Nice development of the romantic relationship between the protagonists
• good and short description of the scenery. Just the right amount to paint a picture but not too much to get bored

Cons

• Some topics are handled too fleetingly, e.g. being bipolar and the effects it has on his surroundings

I give this book 3 solid stars. I really liked the idea of the story and it was nice to see Charlotte opening up and letting herself be vulnerable.
Sometimes the plot feels a little bit rushed, and it seems the story jumps from one event to the other.
The Book focuses heavily on the personal growth of their protagonists and I think this really is the strong suit of the story.
Since this is the debut of the author, I‘m really looking forward to her next books.

I received this through Net Galley for my honest opinion.

I have to say at first it was hard to get through the beginning, the phrasing was a bit choppy and the paragraphs blended into one another changing from one person to the next without showing that change. But I can honestly say that I am very happy I held on and read through the entire book because it really was worth it. The story progressed nicely and the emotions of the main characters were coming through on the pages. I was now invested.

The premise of the story was good and the characters were interesting to read about and I truly felt for them. I enjoyed reading/learning about their struggles and the bonds they started forming throughout the book. This wasn't a love story, it was more of a story about a girl who is finding herself and finally letting her feel for those around her. Letting people in, in the best way possible. I enjoyed this book.

Just For a While had so much potential, especially when it came to exploring the relationship between Charlotte and Daniel - a father and daughter who don't know each other - but ultimately fell short for me.

I was frustrated that the story didn't seem to really develop until almost 70-75% of the way into the book. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and how Charlotte and Misha came together didn't make any sense to me.

Haslie's writing is very good though. I guess I wanted a different exploration of the ideas of forgiveness and family relationships.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review: This story is one of self-discovery, dealing with a hurtful past, a very ill parent, and of first love. It is deep, emotional and an engrossing read. There is mild language and some mild sexual content. I identified, and sent to the author, a number of typo's and grammatical errors - once these have been amended, it will be a lot more fluid to read. It looks like the story was translated from another language to English. The 4 stars were given for the story itself - I hope the author fixes the errors ASAP! I recommend the book for young adults, those young-at-heart and for those who enjoy romance with a dash of reality - and not the stereotypical fairy-tale.

DNF at 16%. I was really excited for this book and wanted to love it, however I just found it boring and couldn’t get into it. I’m not a huge fan of third person narrative and that’s what this book is told on. But the main reason I just couldn’t get in to this book is I didn’t connect/ like the characters. I felt like the main character Charlotte was rude and moody towards people that she didn’t need to be, and Charlottes dad was somewhat hard to read. Thank you for the opportunity to read this.

Author Zoe Haslie did a great job on her debut novel! It was difficult to get into the story at first (I had a hard time following the storyline and connecting with the characters) but once I did, I loved it! I was able to relate with some of the characters and it reminded me of how grateful I am for my husband not abandoning me when I became pregnant as a teen. I hope she continues the story as I really want to know what happens to the other characters!

I voluntarily review an ARC.
This is fast paced YA story, an easy read with depth. I really liked the protagonists, both very mature for their age due to the circumstances. I loved the world building and character developments. This book contains equal amounts of easy banter, happy and sad moments and romance.
I really liked that (almost) nobody was judged by their mistakes or decisions.
I'd like to visit this town one day, especially the patisserie.

I received Just For a While by Zøe Haslie in exchange for a honest review. I have given this book two out of five stars ⭐️⭐️

Unfortunately this book really started to pick up around two thirds of the way through the story which made the story feel rushed and missed opportunities to develop on certain relationships and characters. This book had a lot of potential but this story didn’t do it for me.

This was a great Y/A read. Hurting characters, family drama, misunderstandings, and friendships.
