Tim Tigner

Tim began his career in Soviet Counterintelligence with the US Army Special Forces, the Green Berets. That was back in the Cold War days when, “We learned Russian so you didn't have to,” something he did at the Presidio of Monterey alongside Recon Marines and Navy SEALs.

With the fall of the Berlin Wall, Tim switched from espionage to arbitrage. Armed with a Wharton MBA rather than a Colt M16, he moved to Moscow in the midst of Perestroika. There, he led prominent multinational medical companies, worked with cosmonauts on the MIR Space Station (from Earth, alas), chaired the Association of International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, and helped write Russia’s first law on healthcare.

Moving to Brussels during the formation of the EU, Tim ran Europe, Middle East, and Africa for a Johnson & Johnson company and traveled like a character in a Robert Ludlum novel. He eventually landed in Silicon Valley, where he launched new medical technologies as a startup CEO.

In his free time, Tim has climbed the peaks of Mount Olympus, went hang gliding from the cliffs of Rio de Janeiro, and ballooned over Belgium. He earned scuba certification in Turkey, learned to ski in Slovenia, and ran the Serengeti with a Maasai warrior. He acted on stage in Portugal, taught negotiations in Germany, and chaired a healthcare conference in Holland. Tim studied psychology in France, radiology in England, and philosophy in Greece. He has enjoyed ballet at the Bolshoi, the opera on Lake Como, and the symphony in Vienna. He’s been a marathoner, paratrooper, triathlete, and yogi.

Intent on combining his creativity with his experience, Tim began writing thrillers in 1996 from an apartment overlooking Moscow’s Gorky Park. Twenty years later, his passion for creative writing continues to grow every day. His home office now overlooks a vineyard in Northern California.

Tim grew up in the Midwest, and graduated from Hanover College with a BA in Philosophy and Mathematics. After military service and work as a financial analyst and foreign-exchange trader, he earned an MBA in Finance and an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.

No need to compare Tigner to other great espionage writers – he is in a class of his own!

The movie star handsome, ‘man’s man’ Tim Tigner comes to his role as a novelist specializing in political intrigue with a rich background. His academic preparation is a combination of mathematics and philosophy with psychology and radiology, but after academia his instinct for investigation and thrill seeking led him to serve in the Green Berets, specializing in Russian and Soviet counterintelligence. When Perestroika/Glasnost ‘opened’ Russia (or at least by their definition made it more transparent) led to the fall of the Berlin wall, Tigner’s direction shifted from espionage to arbitrage and he moved form Russia to Brussels where he witnessed the formation of the European Union: his change in focus shifted back to the US and further degrees in business and International Studies and settled in the Silicon Valley as a corporate type in the medical device industry. And as if that background weren’t sufficient he continued his travels around the world expending energy as scuba diver, skier, actor, mountain climber, a hand glider, a parachuter, and in every sense of the word an adventurer. Now he follows his obsession with reading thrillers by writing them.

Having read most of Tim’s novels it always comes a surprise that he doesn’t repeat himself. There are ‘recipe format espionage books’ – keep one central character everyone recognizes then populate the story with the expected clones of ‘good’ vs. ‘bad’ people. That is where Tim steps aside like a matador and creates each novel with a fresh outlook and cast. And so evolved the Kyle Achilles series now presented in a box set of the first three novels..

Tim’s short form of Book 1 PUSHING BRILLIANCE of this impressive series reads as follows: ‘Framed for murder and on the run, former Olympic biathlete Kyle Achilles is also in the crosshairs of assassins' guns. Why? He has no idea. He's fighting blind against two master strategists and one extraordinary invention--known as Brillyanc. Achilles' only ally is the other prime suspect, a beautiful Russian mathematician who is either the best or worst person to ever enter his life. Katya was engaged to Achilles' brother -- before he died. Chasing clues while dodging bullets, Achilles and Katya race around the globe, uncovering a conspiracy conceived in Moscow, born in Silicon Valley, and destined to demolish both the White House and the Kremlin. Along the way a lost soul finds purpose, a broken heart confronts forbidden love, and America gains a new hero.’ And continuing with Book 2 THE LAND OF SPIES –‘ The American President sent him, the Russian President caught him, the Free World is counting on him…but he doesn’t remember…Journey beneath the diplomatic veneer of international politics and beyond the reach of conventional military operations into the epicenter of clandestine affairs -- where diplomats dance and spies collide in wars that never make the news. For the next step in its expansionist agenda, the Kremlin devises a covert coup far more devastating than Bin Laden's most dangerous dream. With the American economy in his crosshairs, Russian President Vladimir Korovin picks suitable pawns and pulls sizable levers, initiating the boldest gambit the world has ever seen. Halfway around the world, the White House develops a plan for derailing Russian aggression. A way-off-the-books, high-risk, high-reward plan. American President William Silver identifies the perfect person for his impossible mission: former CIA operative Kyle Achilles. With their plans in place and their spies undercover, each president is confident that he has outplayed the other -- until everything goes wrong.’

So now in Book 3 FALLING STARS ‘A mysterious summons lures Kyle Achilles to a midnight meeting that shocks the world and sets a master plan in motion. Meanwhile, his former partner also enters a terrible trap. It’s ingenious and unprecedented, but just a hint of what’s to follow. Achilles and Jo join forces against the cunning culprit, but time is tight and the pressure is great. The Russian is not just making millions with his clever crimes—he’s waging war on the United States.’

Couple these harrowing facts with Tigner’s gift for transplanting his characters into situations that seem destined to destruction and yet manipulating them out with keen pacing and skill and there you have yet another thriller by the gifted Tim Tigner. He writes so well that one could quite easily become addicted. Smart, sophisticated and always with a surprise at the turn of every page, Tigner simply has it.

PUSHING BRILLIANCE (Kyle Achilles #1)
WOW! This was the last Tigner novel for me left unread. So I REALLY tried to drag it out for as long as possible. But if you really like a fast-paced plot, interesting techno thrillers, with a kick-ass protagonist, it is VERY HARD to not just sit down and read it in 1-2 days. Tigner's military background as a Special Forces -trained specialist well versed in Russian and Soviet counter-intelligence, and his civilian experience working in the post-Soviet Moscow with prominent multinational medical companies, and finally extensive experience working in silicon-valley as a CEO of a start-up launching new medical technologies is ALL evident in a most skilled plot with fascinatingly possible medical technologies and targeted bio-weapons. Like any good movie hero, the protagonist is bigger than life, and the "bad guys" are very evil. The personal combat series are very believable for a "not-too-old" CIA-trained biathlete. As someone who has written non-fiction medical books, I am frustrated by reviews who complain about "small print." Tigner I am confident has NOTHING to do with the selection of the cover-art nor the size of the text. I agree with thoughtful comparisons of Kyle Achilles with Brad Thor's Scot Harvath, and Steve Berry's Cotton Malone, Nelson DeMille's John Corey, and Brian Haig's Sean Drummond. Tim Tigner is "Brillyan(t)". Can't wait to see the movie. Also would really like to hear this as an AudioBook with either Dick Hill or Scott Brick.

THE LIES OF SPIES (Kyle Achilles #2)
WOW! Tim Tigner just keeps getting better and better. And the fact that the author is a Special Forcesw trained Soviet Counter-intellingence "expert" make the current geopolitical situation appropriate foundation for an white-knuckle military techno-thriller whose plot COULD be taken from current headlines. Tigner certainly does know how to pace his plot and develop his characters. This book is very hard to put down. Indeed I was fortunate to be "on vacation" in the Rocky Mountains and had the luxury of finishing this book in just two days. This book has it ALL! Spies, counter-spies, espionage, moles, non-stop action, etc etc etc. The protagonist is appropriate named Kyle ACHILLES, a mildly flawed great hero with military training and experience as a biathlete, all BEFORE he became a free climber. I agree with other readers who feel that KYLE ACHILLES needs to be a movie star. The opnly question is who to play Kyle Achilles. This book and this author is recommended HIGHLY to all those readers who devour Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, and Brian Haig.

FALLING STARS (Kyle Achilles #3)Well, when I saw the book set 1-3 coming out, I realized that I had gotten busy and had not provided a review when I finished this book months ago. But Tim Tigner will certainly not disappoint any reader with book #3 of the Kyle Achilles series. And he has been uniquely creative in his utilization of drones to terrorize INDIVIDUAL citizens. The plots moved very quickly, and is certainly hard to predict. And Tigner is definitely refining his writing skills, with Falling Stars the best of the series. The reader will definitely grow to really care about the characters, and especially Kyle Achilles. This plot could be tomorrow’s newspaper headlines. And Tigner’s good guys are definitely good and Tigner’s bad guys are truly evil and despicable. This book moves very fast, and is very hard to put down. Best to start on Friday night when it can be devoured over an entire weekend. Lots and lots of action. And even though this is the “end” of the trilogy, I personally would love to swee these characters continue forward. This is in my opinion Tim Tigner’s best book, but I am equally certain that his next book will be better. Tigner is the first author of the decade that I think is becomine “competition” for Brad Thor!

Wonderful Box Set

Hard to put down? Definitely. I write this at 1am having just finished the entire set. Every night for the past 8 days I have sacrificed sleep to follow Achilles. I strongly urge you to do the same if you enjoy a well written and, more importantly, well told thriller. One that has no need to drop F-bombs or include torrid sexual encounters with graphic description that used to be found only in pornography.

I would not hesitate to allow my grandkids (13,9,7) to read these novels as you see and hear much worse every day. Just a good book from a good author. Pick these up and strap on for a riveting thrill ride of twists, turns, espionage, politics, and a love story thrown in just to make things interesting. Gadgets? Enough to make M of 007 fame proud. You won't be disappointed. Read these stories about a U.S. spy named Achilles, Kyle Achilles.

This is an amazing series. Action, adventure, in abundance. Achilles I’d an amazing character and hero with a background different from all others. A true American hero that’s takes on all the baddest of villains and wins in style. You won’t regret adding these books to your library and seek more of the same. Highly recommended.

This is an amazing series. Action, adventure, intrigue in abundance. Achilles is an amazing character and hero with abilities and a background unmatched by others. You won’t regret adding this series to your library while searching for more of the same. Can’t wait for his next read.

I first “borrowed” it from my prime membership perks. While half way through the first book, i felt so bad not paying for such a great entertaining book that I went ahead to buy the 3 books bundle.

Now I just finished the 2nd book and felt good that I’ve made small contributions to Tim’s 529 plan for his loving kids and pretty sure will continue to do so in the near future.

In particular, I found the spy Mr. Wang and his disgruntled wife are such vivid characters who remind me of some of my Chinese acquaintances (I am sure they are not spies!) The way Mr. Wang threw the seemly random Chinese proverbs in his conversation to Max (or to his own thoughts) is hilarious yet very accurate from a native Chinese perspective. The very brief yet vivid scenarios where the way Mrs. Wang pressing money issues to her husband is also very familiar scene that brought smiles while reading. All these little pieces enriched this Chinese character with layers of authenticity that is rarely seen in many other modern fictions of similar genre.

Keep good adventures coming for the main characters, Tim!

A great set of novels

I finally purchased the set of Kyle Achilles adventures after the author sent me the novella “Chasing Ivan”. A wonderful and exciting series that I highly recommend to anyone who likes thrilling spy adventures. The whole concept of the free climbing spy was really cool, and each of the stories in each of the three novels were fantastic. Can’t wait to read more from Mr. Tigner and I certainly hopes he continues the Kyle Achilles series!

Is a great series, I normally do not read a series completely through without breaking it up so I don't get bored. This series was so enthralling I read all three books without taking a break. The sequences of action were very good and very believable. I highly recommend these books.

Kyle Achilles To The Rescue

Just completed this the box set and each book kept me on edge waiting for the climax to complete. These books are all filled with unexpected twists , turns, and drops that the reader has no option but to keep reading until each word is consumed. This is truly an excellent set, great writing

Maybe 3.5 stars. The books were all good reads and kept me turning the pages past my bedtime. I'd read more from Tim Tigner. His writing is high caliber. Why only 3.5 stars? I guess cause I'm generally stingy with stars. The last book in the series fell flat in a couple spots. Nothing majorly annoying but there none the less.

Excellent book.

I have really enjoyed reading this three book series. The characters and plots are developed brilliantly by the author. It is a nonstop action book. It's kind of troubling learning about how technology is evolving at such a rapid rate and how ruthless and greedy people are using it in horrible and terrifying ways.

A good read!

I enjoyed all four books in this series. They were exciting and came from the perspective of a different kind of spy. One who had no military background or training but was an athlete with talents unique and a great logical mind.

The Series

I made it through but dissatisfied. It was boring, mundane, lacked quality and too scientific to be acceptable. I'm sorry I even finished book 1. I always finish what I start sadly, thank goodness it's over.

I liked the series for the most part, but I gave it a four because of all the technical information, there was a lot. I got bored with the Ivan character, Tim Turner made him sound like a god.

First 2 books - Pushing Brilliance and Spies - in Kyle Achilles box set of 3 books would rate 4 stars for imagination and intrigue. I simply tired of Kyle's miraculous exploits by the time I finished the last one - Falling Stars.

Incredibly far reached in the story

I thought Falling Stars was a massively predictable bore. So disappointing! The story line was completely absent or creativity! The story showed signs of something fresh...and predictability reared its ugly head
