The central point of the Christian life is to know Christ Himself. For this we need to contact and experience Him in a living way day by day. This experience involves some basic elements, including proper spiritual food, regular spiritual worship, and deep spiritual growth. In this volume of "Basic Elements of the Christian Life," three basic elements for a healthy Chtristian life are presented: spending time with the Lord, contacting Him in a simple way, and growing deeply in Him. These messages will bring seeking Christians into the rich nourishment in God's Word, into moment-by-moment contact with Christ, and into the deep, hidden experience of God.
To have a healthy Christian life, these three elements must be present: spending time with the Lord, contacting Him, and growing deeply in Him.
"A Time with the Lord" presents the question, "How long do we actually spend time with the Lord--praying to Him, reading His word, worshiping Him, etc.?" In the twenty-four hours that we are given each day, how much time do we actually spend it with the Lord? His Word is not something that must be taken as simply doctrine. The Bible is a book of life, not a book of knowledge. Aside from knowing it, we must also seek to experience it to have a deeper Christian life. It all starts with setting a time to be with the Lord.
"A Simple Way to Touch the Lord" tackles how we can contact and experience Christ day by day, moment by moment. Enjoying His presence does not stop at our personal time with Him. Whatever time the day, whatever situation we're in--we can touch the Lord by simply calling on His name, "O Lord, Jesus! Amen! Hallelujah!"
"Deep Calls unto Deep" advises us regarding preaching to others and uses a plant to illustrate this point. A plant has roots, which are hidden beneath the soil, and leaves, which are exposed above the soil. There should be both kinds of spiritual experiences, experiences that we share to others to build them up and experiences that should be kept to ourselves. While it is important to prophesy during meetings or preaching to others, we must ask ourselves, "Am I doing this to help others or to glorify my own faith?" Those two objectives/motives are very different; and if we are not careful, we risk doing the latter. We should not expose all our spiritual experiences to others, lest we end up losing everything. No root should be exposed. We must act according to God's instruction within us. If He tells us to reveal something, then that is the only time we expose it to others.
A great read. It got 4 stars because it does repeat some info from "Spiritual Nourishment" and doesn't show as much revelation as the first one did. It more of elaborates on Christianity and rambles on a bit instead of actually revealing new info. Great read. I would encourage anyone to read it (after vol. I) and continue to the third volume!
Teaches us one of the most important questions How much time do I spend praying? It teaches us to pray read. All scripture is God breathed Timothy 3:16. Like babies need milk we need the spiritual nourishment of the Lord.
