Where to begin? I read a story of Carson’s in Electric Literature in 2011 and I was hooked. I read Saguaro in two days and instantly yearned for more.

His writing style, while sophisticated and intelligent, has a way of engaging the everyday human in you. There’s no frills or pretension, yet you find yourself walking away from each chapter, Hell each half of a chapter thinking, “he just worded something I’ve been thinking my entire life with an elegance I couldn’t of imagined.” Its pretty wild to feel connected to someone through their writing and through their characters.

I never like to compare, and they’re really not the same, but it reminds me of how I feel when I read Bukowski. There’s a beautiful rawness to each line and each story they tell.
It’s weird to be proud of someone I’ve never really hung out with (though I did have a great convo with him at a bar in NYC once), but I’m fucking proud of this guy. He’s stayed so true to his style, but each novel reveals something new. So you’re left feeling excited, but not surprised because after book one, you know it’s going to be good.

While times fucking SUCK right now, it’s so cool to be a part of this dudes journey. I can only hope he keeps them coming!

Also I realize I’m not really reviewing any one book. Just read all of them. You won’t be disappointed.
