The place you are right now
God circled on a map for you.
~ Hāfez

Poor Jane Bennet! Abandoned by Mr. Bingley – she might as well have been jilted at the altar! Now she sees what her sister had seen from the beginning: the Bingley women were not friends of hers.

Jane needed to make some decisions and make them now! Tradesmen were accepted if they were successful enough. Her Uncle Gardiner had become wealthy. Her Uncle Phillips earned almost as much as her father’s estate. If she met someone during her visit to London, she would not be stopped by outdated ideas (i.e. her Mother’s ideas) of her prospects. She wanted to be married.

Poor Oliver Andrews! Cuckolded by his late wife; left with a young daughter; hounded by his mother to re-marry. He wanted to be married if he could find the right woman. Not too young, but intelligent and caring; someone who would be a good mother to his little Amelia.

Oliver is a well-to-do landowner and a long-time friend to the Gardiners. Mr. Gardiner invites him to take a meal with the family.

Jane and Oliver make their decision quickly and easily.

Accept the things to which fate binds you and love the people with whom fate brings you together, and do so with all your heart. ~ Marcus Aurelius

The Gardiners have shared many stories of the Bennets with their friend Oliver who realizes immediately that he cannot marry into a family with Lydia and Kitty Bennet running wild. He is in a position of influence at Longbourn and begins pro-active planning. Oliver’s changes are what I like to imagine Darcy would have done if Elizabeth had accepted his first proposal.

Elizabeth returns from Hunsford (and the disastrous proposal) full of spite for Darcy’s actions toward Jane and finds Jane happily betrothed. Imagine how surprised Elizabeth is to learn that Jane will be bringing Kitty to her new home and not Elizabeth!

The last I heard from my destiny, it wanted me to make a legal U-Turn at my next opportunity. ~ Robert Brault

This is a l-o-o-n-g story and frankly, the author became bogged down trying to write a HEA for all the characters. Regular postings became few and far between as she tried to place everyone. Finally she realized her story about Jane and Oliver was finished – had been finished for a while and she deleted several chapters and intends to write a sequel to deal with other characters. If she were to publish, it should be edited even more. But this is at FanFiction.net and stories posted as WIP often ramble.

My feeling is that the beginning of the story is so strong it’s a worthwhile read … but if I did a re-read, I would be skimming as I approach the end.

I became completely invested in this variation. Jane Bennet's eyes have been opened. From hurt to anger to making some personal decisions certainly gives her and her family wide ranging possibilities. Oliver Andrews is one decisive man. His wife left him and their infant daughter to pursue her own pleasures. After several years and the death of his estranged wife, he decides to remarry.

There was much to love in this tale. Again, Wosedwew's review says it best. Yes, it is long with lots going on for everyone. I didn't mind it at all. There were some touching scenes that brought tears to my eyes. There is a section on Kitty's story that needs some work...at least in my humble opinion. To me it was thrown in for some angst but fell flat. I don't always need that type of angst in a story. It was working well enough without it.

This story says it is complete...as far as Jane's tale. Unfortunately, by the time the author realized this, we are left wanting to know what happens with Mary, Lydia, Bingley, and Colonel Fitzwilliam. No story is posted yet on them...but there will be at some future date.

Again, the usual issues with unpublished works of spelling, editing and tightening of the overall story.

“Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.” –Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Wosedwew and Carole (in Canada) both wrote a delightful review and I agree with both viewpoints. I only have one major question [I’ll poise the others later]. WTC [What-The-Crap] happened at the end? OMG! I wanted to chew off my own hands after slugging through 50+ chapters and it just stops????

“I wonder how many people don’t get the one they want, but end up with the one they’re supposed to be with.” –Fannie Flagg, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café

As a Jane focused story… it was delightful. She had finally decided on the answer to the question that had plagued her for months. What did she want in a husband and did that include Mr. Bingley? For a woman like Jane Bennet, respect, trust and believing that her husband would be able to take care of her and any children, was a big deciding point on her choice of husband. She had lived her twenty-plus years under the same roof with M/M Bennet and did not want to live like that under her own roof.

Mr. Bingley had not proven himself well when he left Netherfield and never returned. He showed little respect for the neighborhood by not taking a proper leave. He had raised expectations in his attentions to Jane and left without a by-your-leave… thus abandoning her. His sisters were allowed to run rough shod over him and his house. They looked down upon and were rude to the denizens of Meryton and especially the ladies at Longbourn. Jane had seen enough.

Enter one Oliver Andrews… OMG! This guy was amazing and he did what Darcy should have done. I’m sorry. This guy may be considered controlling, but that was what Jane needed to see and she liked it. A man that said what he meant and meant what he said, always kept his word, and when he made a decision… stood by it. So, she made her choice.

There really wasn’t a lot of Darcy and Elizabeth. In fact, at the beginning, I didn’t care much for either one of them. I mean really….

“Man does not control his own fate. The women in his live do that for him.” –Groucho Marx

Somewhere along the way the story-line simply fell apart. Wose described that beautifully in her review, so there is no need in my doing the same. Carole also agreed. I was just confused and then BAM… it stopped with a pretty major cliffhanger. There are still four people that have not reached their HEA or hooked up… so to speak. I can only conclude that those four will pair up with each other. I could be wrong. One pair I sort of expect and highly approve. The other two are very strange… however, the attitude of one was described as very much like a Caroline Bingley. Shudder… if that guy needs that in his life… he can have her. I couldn’t find the next story and I’m so ticked off… I’m not sure I want to read it. Once I calm down… I might… if we can ever find it.

Like Wose… I might read this again just to read about Mr. Andrews… love him. But I would certainly skim the rest. Just saying. Rating: Although this was clean… there was a smarmy guy that makes you want to take a bath after he leaves the page. He’s rather disgusting and there are hints but nothing described in detail.

I appreciate the hard work this writer put in. But by the time I got to the end of the story, I just wasn't enjoying it, nor did I find the characters likeable.

More than usual errors. My main AND overwhelming complaint is it’s marked complete and is not! She doesn’t call it Part 1 on the fan fiction site. The ‘sequel’ is has not been updated in 4 years!

This took me days to read! Ugh.

In this Pride & Prejudice variation, while Jane is staying at the Gardiners she reassess her life choices. She ultimately makes her choice of husband before her 'superior sister' can interfere and give her advise. How will this affect the futures of her sisters. Although we have stories concerning the other Bennet sisters this is basically Jane's story.
And a delightful one.
(A relief that it did not evolve into another Darcy and Elizabeth story.) An enjoyable re-read.
