Keto for Life: Reset Your Biological Clock in 21 Days and Optimize Your Diet for Longevity is a terrific book! I've read 20+ books focused on longevity, Blue Zones, mediterranean diet, healthy eating, etc and Keto for Life: Reset Your Biological Clock in 21 Days and Optimize Your Diet for Longevity does a terrific job explaining why we need to focus on four critical pillars.

The four pillars are: metabolic flexibility, movement and physical fitness, mental flexibility, and rest and recovery. Sisson demonstrates how we can quietly excel in longevity by optimizing sleep, eating a nutrient dense diet, meditating daily, moving frequently, and expressing gratitude.

Some memorable passages include:

* JFW: Just f-ing walk. Get in the habit of daily walking. Park furthest away from an entrance. Take the stairs rather than the elevator.

* Taking a daily walk can reduce the possibility of Alzheimer's by 40%.

* Get out there and start moving, walking, running, lifting, and sprinting. Your life depends on it.

* You can literally change the fate of your cells by altering your thoughts.

* Your health destiny will be determined by your behaviors and your thoughts.

OK, I had to read it to understand why many of friends are jumping on this wagon. My fist thought after finishing it was, “I’m glad I reas ie. I’m not going Keto, but will pay more attention and be more intentional about adding more protein to my diet.” The End.

I don’t think this book is for real people. I’m sorry but I will never agree with “Sardines make a great snack!”
And I can’t spend $4 on a ounce of chocolate just to make sure it wasn’t packaged by a child.
I also will not get a tan to fully benefit from vitamin D.
However....I did enjoy some of the advice on being present and tips on how to move more during the day.
The rest just made me feel like a bad person.

I might have given this book four stars, because as a kind of basic "life reset" manual, it's decent and helpful. However, the title is misleading. This isn't a book about keto. The author orients more toward a "primal" eating regimen, which allows for some things in the diet that a more strict keto approach would not. But a low-carbohydrate diet is only one portion of the book. The book also addresses "mental flexibility" a sort of "cognitive behavioral therapy lite meets possibility thinking/personal development." It also covers physical health components, and rest and recovery matters. It provides a "21-day reset" program which orients around these "four pillars," as he calls them. About a third or a little more, are recipes that coincide with his eating recommendations. (I've tried a couple and found them enjoyable.) So it is a pretty well-rounded, if somewhat light, approach to a "reset" of one's priorities around physical and mental health. In the 21-day program there is a fair amount of work to be done, not just with eating and health, but with journaling and relationships. As such it becomes a pretty daunting set of daily and weekly activities that would be tough for anyone not semi-retired and single (or without kids) to accomplish. I mean that quite literally. In my view it really is too much to do any of these things well and meaningfully. If I were to go through the 21-day program, I would choose one "track" at a time, and spread out the 21 days into three or four sets of three weeks at various times of the year. Much of the activities are fairly common-sense sort of things: eliminating TV and screen time, repairing and developing social relationships, getting adequate sleep, journaling about one's experiences, and a separate gratitude journal. There's nothing groundbreaking here. But I do appreciate more clarity and honesty, and if one purchases this book based on the title, one would be misled. If he had simply called it the 21-Day Reset or something like that, I might have given it four stars, because overall I do like the content even if it can be somewhat simplistic at spots. But focusing on the keto, and then not really delivering on the keto, in the title, and not really expressly stating or indicating that this is a "lifestyle reset," is not fair to readers and potential buyers. One should not have to work that hard to get the content of the book.

Mark Sisson is my go-to health and fitness guru. His books never disappoint. Spoiler alert: did you know that people are buying chest freezers, running on timers to keep just above 33 deg F for an early morning cold therapy plunge? Ok ok that's not the point of the book, but the narrator Brad Kearns has a video on YouTube about it. Yikes. But seriously, go read everything from Mark Sisson if you haven't already. Start with Primal Blueprint.

With this book, the author assumes you already are doing the Keto diet. I think this is a big assumption and very confusing in the book. Material seems to be repeated from chapter to chapter.

Mark Sisson, his droning, nasal tone can come through in his writing, seems to be the best thing I've got going for me in my reading life right now. I know. I'm stuck in a rut. And this book supposedly is supposed to get you out of the rut. As a confession, I have not done the 21-day regimens, but I did still read the book. Really good practical suggestions like improving sleep quality, decluttering, and stopping your ruminating, if I don't sound a like I'm a little bit ruminative here right now.

I'm a little hesitant on his directives to indiscriminately take in all the saturated fat you want and dialing back high-intensity aerobic exercise. Ok, I get it: The conditions are if you basically eliminate grains, sugars, and other simple carbohydrates from your diet over the long haul, you can supposedly eat this without having to worry about having a heart attack. That's the theory. It's essentially a variation of the Atkins diet. At this point, I'll read anything by him I can get my hands on. I'm a little hooked on this particular author for the past year or so a little after I finally had gotten around to reading Chris Kresser's book, which was a little more technical and a little harder to follow in a few respects. I know Mark closed down his blog, sold his condiment business, and essentially is resting on his laurels (posting frivolous soundbites on social media here and there), and deservedly so; he's obviously paid his dues and then some. He seems to have cracked the code on a tricky dieting strategy. This book is a little more mainstream and has more editorial polish, nicer typesetting and layout, nicer photographs, and whatnot. I think Mark was self-publishing and blogging until his unconventional ideas got a little more traction.

A great book on the ketogenic lifestyle which not includes how to go about your diet, but also about the importance of intermittent fasting, exercise, rest, play, socializing. This book totally got me back in motion to at least walk everyday - I aim for 10,000 steps per day. I would highly recommend this book!

The book talks about the ketogenic diet, but contains a lot of other useful information as well. Sisson has clearly performed a great deal of research and knows his stuff. No stupid egg white omelette recommendations in this book.

I actually really enjoyed this book. Great mix of advice including diet, rest, exercise, mindfulness, etc. Includes a lot of really yummy recipes too. I doubt I’ll ever do a super stringent 21-Day Reset as outlined in this book, but I gained a lot of takeaways I’ll keep in mind moving forward.

There's much that I like about this book. I bought the hard copy for the recipes and to share with my husband to do the 21 day challenge together. I hope to share my experience later.

A lot of excellent, practical information. I knew most of it, but some there was some new stuff in there that I will find useful. The recipes are excellent.
