The Harrisons #4

Once In A Cape Cod Summer

Rate this book
A seafood restauranteur. An ocean conservationist. What could possibly go wrong in the romance mis-match of the century?
For as long as she can remember Mackenzie Harrison has loved the sea. Now she's living her happily ever after. After all, what more could a girl want? As a marine biologist working at a prestigious Oceanographic Institute and living in the oh-so-quaint Cape Cod village of Wood's Hole, all her dreams have come true. Or have they?

When she takes part in a research trip to study her beloved whale sharks in Mexico's idyllic Isla Holbox, she unwittingly snares the attention of handsome heart throb Holden McCabe instead. A devastating incident on her last dive leads to an uncharacteristic wild night of cocktail drinking and a passionate kiss on Mexico's white-sand beaches. But in the cold light of day, science nerd Mackenzie flees the arms of gorgeous Holden-Good Vibrations-McCabe and hightails it back to the safety of her Wood's Hole cocoon. The last thing she expects is for Mr Good Vibrations to turn up on her door step and shatter her illusions about her perfect sheltered academic life.

Holden McCabe is living the life. His carefree bachelor lifestyle of sun, sea and sand on the island paradise of Isla Holbox would have to be the envy of any guy. But every now and then the sumptuous fragrance of fresh chargrilled seafood on the breeze catches him off-guard and taunts him with the painful memories of his failed restaurant. Just when he thinks he's got his past beat once and for all, the trigger to leave his island paradise comes in the entirely unexpected form of a klutzy but gorgeous marine scientist whose nerdy charm knocks him off his feet. When his chef temping agency offers him employment in the small village of Wood's Hole, he grabs it with both hands and soon finds himself not only face to face with the looming spectre of his failure as a business man, but the extremely disinterested woman of his dreams.

Once In A Cape Cod Summer can be enjoyed as a standalone novel.

Author bio:
Alexa Bloom is the first to admit that it took her a long time to figure out what she was supposed to do with her life. Having worked in a multitude of jobs from teacher to voice-over artist and everything in between, it took a change of country (Australia to Canada), a couple of children and several years for writing to find her, so she could finally stop looking.

Her first contemporary romance series The Harrisons, follows the fortunes of seven siblings raised in a charming thoroughbred farm in the heart of Kentucky. While the series begins at Lockwood Farm, each story features a different sibling and takes readers on a new adventure in a different exotic setting.

Mackenzie description of the water, as she aimed and missed her tag, of the shark whales, was beautiful. Going home tomorrow,as her brother is always reminding her to live a little, she heads for the bar. Meeting Holden, and calling him “Mr.Good Vibrations”. At home, in her rental cottage on Cape Cod. Going for breakfast, and noticing who the stand in Chief was. Even her landlady calls him “our Holden”. It was just a kiss on the beach, but it still had her rattled. Now he is here, temporary or will it be permanent.
Another good read from the author, of love and maybe a happy ending.

I really enjoyed the description of the ocean and sea life. However, I believe that there was too much focus on the environmental issue (even though very important), it overtook the storyline. The relationship with Mackenzie and Holden was stilted and then jumped to a big romantic ending that left me disappointed. No real build up or sensual anticipation. I have enjoyed this series but this book was not a favorite. I received this ARC for an honest review.

After reading other books in this series, I had been watching for the next release and this is it! This one is about another sibling, Mackenzie Harrison, and the attraction she felt to a very handsome guy she accidentally met while on an oceanography assignment in Mexico. Although the spark was there, the major holdback to moving on into a relationship was their extreme difference of opinion! I loved this book and I hope there will be other releases!!

Once In A Cape Cod Summer is book 4 of The Harrisons series and this one belongs to Mackenzie the younger sister.

Alexa continuously writes such quality pieces of work. I am biased when it comes to hers. You don't want to miss this one. A brilliantly written romance with intrigue, suspense, passion and heat all mixed in with unconditional love. I thoroughly love this book!! I was sucked right into this one right from the very first page, and look forward to the next book. Grab your copy today you will not be disappointed.

I’ve read all of this series. The plot/stories are good for this genre. I know that she is British & I can overlook some spelling differences. I really struggled with the phrasing and slang when it was supposed to be set in America with native people. I had to look up terms/phrasing, especially the slang, which broke up the flow of the stories.

There is a message in this story, the oceans are in trouble and this book tries to touch on this subject without making it the focus of the story. There is light romance, a little steam and some silliness and tribulation between the main couple. All in all a good, light read.

Informative

This book is five stars because it not only is a unique love story but also makes you think about what we eat and how it is produced.
