Lazy Days #1

Lazy Sundays

Rate this book
Scott Weston’s car is sensible, his suits are bland, and his job is stable but boring. Mundane routine helps keep his anxiety and obsessive tendencies under control. Socializing—especially dating—isn’t on his list of strong skills either, and, made worse with the echoes of his disapproving mother. So he’s content to stay at home with his lists and cleaning and wildlife documentaries, until a one-night stand goes unexpectedly right.

History has taught Devon DuCaine that dating can be uncomfortable, but there’s just something about Scott. He may be the opposite of Devon’s own long-haired, tattooed, free-wheeling spirit but he brings out the nurturer in Devon. Maybe it’s Scott’s surprising fascination with Devon’s motorcycle, or his shy surprise in moments of affection, but there’s more under those sensible suits than meets the eye. The most important person in Devon’s life, his mom, taught him love and compassion and that’s all he wants to share with Scott.

Their one-night stand turns into a regular thing, but Scott doesn’t trust it to last. He’s pretty sure Devon is hiding something. He’s even more sure that once Devon gets to know him, the attraction will fade. And then there’s his mother. However many sparks fly between them, Devon will have his work cut out to convince Scott they can have their happily ever after.

K-lee Klein

K-lee Klein grew up in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia and now lives only two hours away in Calgary, Alberta. Her life is blessed by three now-grown (but still spoiled) kids and an adorable grandson who calls her Gwaa Gwaa. She has a patient husband of over thirty years and spends her days being bossed around by a kitten named Poe, a senior feline called, Miss Chili, and a canine who thinks she's a princess, Chewie.

K-lee’s writing muse is terribly temperamental so to keep him close by and in-check, she had him inked on her left calf. Yet she still writes on his schedule and inspiration, and quite honestly, he can be a bit of a drama queen. K-lee writes mostly contemporary but has forayed into paranormal and urban fantasy, and her favorite tropes to write and read are hurt-comfort, friends to lovers, opposites attract, and relationships with children. Her biggest accomplishment as an author was overcoming all the hurdles to transition from publisher releases to her first self-published book.

Although K-lee considers herself to be an extroverted introvert and revels in her solitude, she very much enjoys traveling to conferences to meet up with friends old and new. She’s grateful for all the people in her life who accept her as she is and support her through the ups and downs as a mom, wife, friend, and joyfully obsessed writer.

I’m not going to upset myself even more by wasting my time to write a review.

This was one of the rare cases in which I didn’t want this couple to get their HEA. Scott was an extremely irritating and unlikeable character, and Devon, though he was sweet, made some mistakes too.

This is a sweet, sexy, and refreshingly complex little look at an opposites-attract romance.

Our MC, Scott, is fairly neurotic, dealing with a lot of anxieties and insecurities that have him believing that this amazing thing he has going on with the gorgeous, tattooed, and laid-back Devon could never last. What started out as a one-night-stand turned into this ongoing, undefined thing, with Devon showing up at Scott's house every weekend for four happy and satisfied months. But Scott knows Devon is keeping things from him and it's only a matter of time before the not-knowing takes its emotional toll on the already high-strung Scott.

Scott and Devon were like night and day, but they complimented each other perfectly and their chemistry was off the charts. Although I became frustrated during all the fighting and miscommunication crap towards the end, when Devon's secrets were revealed, I still appreciated how complex their dynamic was and I liked that their relationship wasn't smooth sailing and that they had to truly work for their happiness.

For me, this was a freebie worth reading. I'll definitely be tackling the short sequel (also free) in the future.

This m/m shortie is by turns adorable and heart-wrenching. Beautiful, powerful prose, Klein! I found even the "erotic" elements more sweet and controlled than sexy, which says a lot! I will say that it's a wee bit predictable BUT I'm okay with that.

I don't know about you.... but me, I'm fucking awkward. I say the wrong thing, ALL THE TIME! I can be neurotic. I stumble, I fumble and I screw up. I let my insecurities rule me. I am a geek, someone who feels more comfortable discussing books than feelings. I call myself ugly or fat or stupid..... I am human. I make mistakes. EVERYONE DOES!

This is a story about impressions and how we all have to break down our barriers of impressions to let love in.

True story time!

Chris is graceful, handsome and not a geek - physically -, AT ALL!! He's a metalhead with a black belt in some form of karate I can't begin to spell.... and he loves me... every klumsy, neurotic, emotionally-damaged inch of me.... and it's startling to me constantly that he can adore me so much. I am slack-jaw dumbfounded on a near daily basis...... Love is the weirdest game in town, Ladies and Gents!

Lazy Sundays is a very entertaining short read. It drops us right into the middle of an ongoing affair between Scott and Devon. While Devon is very self-confident and easy-going, Scott is trying to handle his life with OCD. He needs to keep lists, gets uneasy when he is ripped out of his routine and fights anxiety attacks. However, the moment Devon stepped into his life - totally unexpected and due to his low self-esteem Scott still can`t believe that he turned out to be more than a one-night stand for Devon - he tries to adapt his routines to the young and energetic man, he is slowly falling for.

While Scott first enjoys the lazy weekends they spend together at his house, he soon realizes that Devon somehow doesn`t want to go out with him. Devon is definitely keeping a secret, but will Scott be able to handle the truth when it comes out?

Lazy Sundays was catching, due to the great MCs. At a first glance, they seem very mismatched, but I loved the way they interacted and tries to make their relationship work around their own habits. I also loved the tenderness between Scott and Devon and the flashback was a great way to give more insight into how they met. Great cover by the way!

I often can`t connect to characters, when a story is short, but somehow Lazy Sundays is an exception. I felt very close to the characters and I wanted to read so much more about them. 4 stars for this lovely contribution to the LiAW event of the m/m romance group here on Goodreads.

3,5 Stars - because they are so cute ...

A nice short Novella about two very mismatched men, Scott and Devon, who meet and slowly open up to each other.

This little "shortie" give you some not unusual anxiety related to self-esteem and bad experiences, a lot of tenderness, nicely described heat & steam and a cute Happily Ever After ending. Kind of lovely overall. In addition, I liked the wonderful book title, the nice cover and the idea for the story.

I think it started off really well, dropped a little in the middle but ended up giving me a warmed heart and a big smile. I will immediately read the next little short story about the insecure nerd (his words) Scott and his beloved hottie Devon, Lazy Valentines.

I LIKE - short but sweet.

This was such a cute story. I started reading it and I was hooked, but then when we got to the sweetness, I just melted completely. Scott and Devon were just adorable together. Add the little bit of angst to that and you can be sure I loved it. The best part was discovering that Devon really did like Scott, even with some of the quirks he had. So glad I read this one.

So I really really really want to give this 4 stars, but i can't quite do it. The first half I loved, getting to know dorky Scott and sexy Dev. But Dev started to annoy me and I started getting a little defensive of Scott. I mean "what can I do to make you feel comfortable?" to an insecure guy on the first night you've ever left the house with him after weeks? Oh, I dunno, maybe actually saying that this is more than sex would do the trick! And all the miscomunication/dishonesty after their really big fight? I still don't feel like he ever fully justified it. Even if you didn't want to go out or tell him about yourself, I never felt like Dev showed sufficient interest in Scott personally. I was just left feeling like these two guys don't really know each other that well. And Scott's constantly holding back, even once they were officially boyfriends, annoyed me too. Grow up.

Docking the stars for that flashback (with long italic fonts that leads to same old-same old sex scene -- cue me feeling BORED) in the beginning, this story is pretty good!

I like the opposite attract theme: Scott is adorable with his OCD (though man, he can be viscious when he's angry! watch out for pissed-off accountant!) and Devon with his white picket-fence dream which is surprising when you count his appearance. The fights are emotionally real (considering Scott's insecurity) and the ending wonderful. Love the idea of one lazy days for just you and your partner.

Thanks for bringing this into my attention, Mandy

Well I wasn't expecting that! What a little gem this was.

This is the story of Scott and Devon. Polar opposites in every way.
Scott is a self confessed geek. He is obsessive compulsive, lacks in confidence and proclaims himself as nothing more than a dull, normal accountant.
It was so sad to see him constantly put himself down and feel unworthy of the attraction he receives from Devon.

"I cant believe I said that. Here I am trying to have a serious conversation and I end up sounding like Rainman."

Devon Ducaine is an Adonis. A real man's man. Confident, rugged, tattooed, buff and rides a motorbike. Yum!
Devon finds himself constantly having to reassure Scott of his feelings for him and that he does find him attractive and worthy of his affections.

"Wouldn't want to date myself, would I? Differences are what make people unique. I'm sure there's a lot of things you think are strange about me."

As Scott and Devon's relationship progresses, we see Devon become a little mysterious - Where does Devon work? Where does he live? Why doesn't he want to be seen out in public with Scott?

"I'm just Devon Ducaine, Mississippi boy. I like sunsets and puppies and long walks on the beach."

This was a great read. It had mystery, heat, romance and most importantly a story of hope and acceptance.
I look forward to reading more from the M/M Romance Group's 'Love is Always Write' event.

Such a sweet opposites attract story.
I love Scott and his OCD and panic attacks and all!
Devon is such a sweetie, and I guess I know why he was reluctant to share his 'secret' with Scott and I guess it was normal for Scott to let his insecurities get the better of him.
I would love to read more about these two!

Who doesn’t enjoy a lazy Sunday, this story is just perfect for one. Klein did a great job in pacing this story to keep your interest and the drama wasn’t too over the top.
I did find that Scott was a bit much with his insecurities at times, and I would have liked to have more face time with his family and why he was the way he was.
The drama that was, was well played and logical (see what I did there). I liked how even though both men were on different ends of a spectrum they both has insecurities that make sense.

I also want to add that for a free book the editing was awesome, I only stumbled over a very few mistakes. The only one that comes to mind is a spacing issue. I have seen worse in published books, so good job beta crew!

All in all this was a good read, you can’t beat the price.

3.5 stars Cute short story. Not necessarily my favorite writing style, but I did like the characters Scott and Dev. I think its pretty easy to relate to Scott even if you don't have OCD and anxiety attacks, everyone has had insecurities at some point and ...well...they make us stupid sometimes.
I liked Dev, but I really wish we could have gotten some things from his perspective or something. Even though Scott had a legitimate reason for being upset and all, I was kinda like..."uh...try to see it from someone else's side", but he's super wrapped up in himself which was "eh", but overall I enjoyed the characters.
Its cute, definitely worth the read, I would read more from this author.

Awe - Cute story! I love stories that are meaningful and get you thinking :)

Life isn't about your looks, or how others see you on the outside. it's the inside that counts.

When looking at Scott, you see a typical Accountant - geeky guy, great with numbers, OCD, and low self esteem.
But you don't see the sweetness that's inside. How caring he is and how wonderful he is. And HOT! Geeky is HOT :)

Then there is Devon - Typical Rock star type. Thick build, Tight clothes, tattoos, piercings - the first thing you think of is Sex God! Player, druggie - right?? Wrong - Devon doesn't have a player's bone in his body. He's out to love, and love hard.

Sure Devon wasn't looking to "get his rocks off" when he first saw Scott, but he was attracted to him.
Why? Scott hadn't had a clue, but Devon saw something in Scott that Scott couldn't see in himself.

The book was about how Opposites attract, because we see a Geek and a Rock star together. But I think I got a little deeper meaning to it.. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

Both of these guys were sweethearts, and I really enjoyed reading their story :D

This novella could be better if Scott wasn't such a drama queen. His insecurities annoyed me - poor Devon bent over backwards to constantly assure Scott.. But I agree with Scott - I honestly can't see what Devon saw in him. I wanted him to dump Scott's hysterical ass and find himself another guy.

The ending wasn't satisfying, either. Yes, Devon lied - and apologized..I also wanted Scott to apologize to Devon, too. He said some really harsh words..Devon's lie doesn't absolve him of his own guilt.

The bit with Scott seeing Devon hugging another guy was left unresolved. Why? He suffered a panic attack thinking Devon moved on - why doesn't he ask Devon later what that was about? I guess that guy was just Devon's bandmate - but Scott doesn't know that.It doesn't mesh well with Scott's personality - forgetting such a juicy bit to accuse Devon of. Did the author just forget clear that up?

2 stars only for sweet Devon.

I quite like the story but I am not sure I like Scott very much.

I guess Scott behaviors stemmed from his rather low self-esteem. But I mostly do not understand his thought process and

I find Scott outraged tirade was rather unreasonable and mean spirited

The cover is really sweet though :)

The writing was good, but the ending didn't leave me believing the two MCs would last as a couple. I wasn't convinced of it.

The relationship between the two men seems too unbalanced, like Devon has to do all the work while Scott puts in minimal effort and what effort he does put in is more about himself and his own issues (which he doesn't seem to try much to prevent from hurting the relationship) than about making the relationship work. Even at the end, it's Devon who does all the groveling and apologizing, asking for forgiveness and making overtures to reconcile. Scott doesn't ever apologize and, though he goes to see Devon once quite some time after his mistakes, he backs out and runs away before they actually meet. He makes no other moves to try to make up. Scott spends more time wallowing than trying.

I really like this author's writing. She writes stories with enough tension to be entertaining, but it never really tips over into over the top. This was very sexy, sweet, and even romantic. Half a star off though because there were numerous times the writing stopped flowing due to missing words that should have been there, the addition of words that should have been deleted, a misspelled word, and an incident where the MC's left hand was above his head and then its mentioned that his left hand is drawn down to only be pulled up again to join his left hand. Another run through and clean up would have easily made this a full 5 stars. Still a really enjoyable read, and its free. Loved it.

AAWWWW this book is so sweet :)

I didn't expect to love this very much, I saw it first from Aimie's review So thanks Aimie for giving such a good review for this gem ;)

This is a happy book. There's minimum to no angst, has a HEA, the characters were great and the writing is engaging with some funny moments. I think I smiled a lot while reading it.

It's free, I would recommend this to everyone :) The sequel after this is Lazy Valentines and I heard the author will make it into a series or a full book. I'm looking forward to it.

logicalizing it, or whatever you wanna call it. But logical or not, I
love you.”

“Besides running around the world making
people’s ears bleed, what do you have to offer me?”
“Lazy Sundays on the porch.”

that's all what I'm gonna say...

A wonderful short story that captured my heart from the start.

Scott is just the type of guy I love reading. He has so many insecurities but is still strong.

Dev is almost the opposite. He is big and tough, tattoos and piercings, but under the tough guy image he is just as insecure as Scott.

Together these two make a perfect couple for me to read about.

I can't rate it any higher, because I didn't finish it.

The book was free, and I put it on my kindle, then picked it up on a six-hour coach trip - even being bored stiff couldn't make me finish this story.

It was mostly OK, I liked the begining, it was fairly average, but I was prepared for it to go places. I liked Scott alright, but Dev was my favourite of the two - something about the way Scott was written made him hard to warm to, his voice was a little inconsistant.

I gave up when I got to the backstage fight. I couldn't understand Scott's argument - obviously Dev was hiding things from him, and I would have been pissed off too...but I probably wouldn't have called him a whore etc. It came off as...wildly innappropriate for the level of upset that I personally would have had in that situation.

So, that's where I stopped reading. It was mostly solid, a bit predictable, and lost me somewhere in the middle, but, still has some good moments.

Ok, so here's a confession. I read these Love is Always Write stories, because I have no money and they are free. And I appreciate that they are free and I am sure the writers put their heart into it and I feel bad saying bad things about them, especially when they are completely inoffensive like this one. Unfortunately, the prose is very repetitive, the conflict blown out of all proportions, the problems tackled not very realistic, the dialogue kind of meh, and thus the quality of the whole just isn't good. You know where this is going miles ahead, and you don't end up really caring very much.

I was attracted to the premise, and hoped for an actual look at a complex relationship, but the twist kind of spoiled that. There are barely any characters in this story, and thus nobody to interact with so there is huge amounts of inner monologue and exposition. Nothing really happens, either, until there is the break up, and it comes entirely out of nowhere. Hmpf. Anyway.

When he first thinks of mom says she doesn't accept hes gay and wants a daughter and grand kids. Then later he takes his sisters kid to a concert. Guess the mom forgot she already had a daughter and grand kid ?

I mostly liked it. Got bored with the crazy long flashback and flashback sex.

I didn't like how long the misunderstanding dragged out and it was really wordy. The mc had long drawn out, and often times pointless thought.

It's a free story but IMO would have been a lot better with some tightening up and less rambling.

After four months no phone number exchange? No email?

I get he was hiding his rock star self. But he hid who he was too instead of showing that he kept everything a secret. He came and went as he pleased. Scott had no way to get in touch with him if he needed it. Some parts of this just seemed absurd

I fell in love with Devon and Scott when I read the first Lazy Sundays. In fact, when I finished the book, I had to sit down and write a letter to the author, who promptly wrote me back and told me I had written her very first fan letter.

Fast forward several years, and many books, and now K-lee Klein has rewritten Lazy Sundays into a novel, and I love these two men every bit as much as I did before.

There's fun, there's sad, there's humor, there's biting wit. All of the things that made Lazy Sundays good the first time, makes it great now.

I strongly suggest this book to those who read the original, and to those who haven't, you should.

I couldn’t put it down. It's full of emotion, well written & very character driven. Of course, Devon was amazing, but I simply fell in love with Scott. I was able to relate to his character due to his OCD & the way he learned to live with it. Brava to the author!
