Hell have no fury like a dead woman scorned!

A haunting story of revenge and betrayal ....A cautionary tale, don’t make promises that you can’t keep... you never know when they might come back and HAUNT you!

Theo made a promise to his wife that he would never move on if she were to die, never expected her to actually die.... it is 10 years later and Theo has remarried after a whirlwind relationship, and Tisha is not having it! Yes, even from the grave Tisha is stopping Sheena from moving in on her man!

This was an unsettling little gem of a story! Full of good and evil and a ghost you will root for! An entertaining way to spend your afternoon... A book full of wonderful characters you will love to love and love to hate! Recommend!

Sheena might have other attributes than being a domestic goddess.

My Review:

Whisper To Me was a quick, easy, and engaging read that kept me a bit on edge with both curiosity and anticipation of the next spectral manifestation and/or act of retribution. I enjoyed the premise and creative storylines as well as the cleverly unique characters who enticed and beckoned my interest. Theo had promised his first wife Tish, that he would not remarry if she were to die before him, although after several years as a widower, he lost his big head and was primarily using his little head when Sheena, a less than hygienic yet wildly carnal woman with a large sexual appetite, showed him some attention. Sheena quickly got a ring on her finger and she and little yappy dog with indiscriminate toileting habits were soon ensconced in Theo’s home, soiling and defiling every surface and invoking a demented rage from Tish’s lingering entity. Odd things began to happen, but being that she was not the brightest bulb in the pack, it took a while for Sheena to notice.

Additional storylines involved other characters although those involving the vile and odiferous Sheena were my favorites. The story wrapped up but didn’t fully conclude and left room for continuation, which I sincerely hope will be the case. I gleaned a new addition to my Brit word list with midden, which from Northern UK and Scottish usage would be a trash heap.

As soon as I read the first sentence of the blurb, I was hooked. I was intrigued by the concept of a dead wife's wish for her husband to not to marry and move on. Usually it was just the opposite and this had me imagining various scenes of gruesome varieties, I confess.

Theo was a widower who promised his first wife that he wouldn't remarry after her death. But, after a long period of mourning and loneliness, he fell for Sheena with her sexy wiles which led to their marriage and the introduction of Tish, the vengeful spirit. It took a while for Sheena to realise that she was being targeted by the entity present in the house. I felt that Theo was the one who took the longest time to come to the realisation that Tish was quite serious when she got his promise.

I quite enjoyed the scenes involving Sheena and her dog especially their full on tangle with Tish. I am not repentant about it because I have never hated Sheena as much as anyone in recent times. I didn't even feel bad when she was being bad mouthed about by Saskia. No, this is neither a horror story nor a sad one. The parallel lines of romance that formed between the two pairs - Saskia and Richie and Alaina and Christian, led to a story of love and happiness in addition to the one of hate and sadness.

I don't know what to say about Theo. I found him classy but a bit unbelievable in his actions. The way he fell in and out of love was too sudden to be plausible. But I really liked his budding romance with Donna. And I am looking forward to what happens next. I am sure there is more because the story ended with an opening for the sequel. The book was very short and was easy to read. The scenes flowed well but I felt that the writing could have been more polished. The time I spent reading had me having fun but it's not that good that I would reread it anytime soon. Now I am awaiting the next book because I am excited to know how it all ends.

My one line review : A short, easy read of love and hate

This is a sweet and ghostly tale of family life. Theo has been a widower for 10 years when he meets Sheena and marries her after a whirlwind romance. However there's no happy ever after when the ghost of first wife Tish intervenes. This story interweaves with the romace of Theo's daughter Saskia and her new man Ritchie. It's a sweet story and quite short so it doesn't take long to read. I enjoyed all the characters except Sheena but then again I don't think I was meant to.

The ghosts story side is full of foreboding and leaves you unsettles as to what may happen. And spoilt or not my heart went out to the poor dog and what happened to it.

Saskia's romance is sweet and I liked how that unfolded. I loved all the talk of the flowers and the descriptions of Chelsea flower show. Inspired me to hopefully finally sort out my own garden. Overall I really enjoyed this. The two woven stories were the perfect read for escaping the winter weather.

On their 14th anniversary Theo and Tish have an interesting conversation: She asks Theo if she were to die that he would promise that he would not remarry. She says she would not remarry if he died first. His response during their conversation: “Ok, Ok I promise, but you’re not going to die.”

But she does….

Ten years later Theo has remarried and Tish is not happy about that. She is determined to do whatever it takes to get rid of this new wife, especially when they living are in her house!

I did not connect to the characters, though I did feel for the new wife, Sheena. I wondered why Tish would want Theo to be alone for the rest of his life: You are dead and he can move on in whatever what if he wants! Understanding Tish’s reasoning for Theo to not remarry would have helped me. She was very serious about Theo not remarrying and determined to have Sheena leave.

At times Whisper to Me was entertaining: It started with ‘cute haunting’ type hauntings, but for me Tish took it too far. Theo ultimately realizes what he needs to do and makes his decision.

I did enjoy the ending as we see what will happen next: and then we have that last sentence! Though not totally for me, I would like to see what happens next.

Don't make promises you really don't intend to keep - they may come back to haunt you - that's definitely the case in this ghostly tale! Theo promised his wife Letitia (Tish) that he'd never remarry if she dies merely to pacify her, never expecting her to predecease him. However, she dies . . . . and several years after her untimely death he remarries. Get ready for the antics of a jealous and vengeful ghost determined to get the usurper second wife out of her home!

This is an edge of your seat read, one where you're left in a constant state of foreboding, awaiting what will go wrong next!  The characters are well developed and you're left in no doubt who to like or dislike - and that includes the pets! I really have to commend the author on the brilliant ending - that last sentence leaves you surmising just what might happen next!!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion after choosing to read it.

This is the first of Sherrie Lowe’s novels that I’ve read, but it won’t be the last. While not technically part of her Willow’s Dip series, the book does contain crossover characters. Whisper to Me is a standalone, however, and lacked no detail that would have made the story more complete.

And what a story it is! At its foundation, it’s about the transformative power of real love, and the unpleasantness that results when what is thought to be love turns out to be only the short-lived flame of lust. It begins when Theo Stanyer, a good and decent man, makes a promise to his wife Tish on their fourteenth wedding anniversary. Out of the blue, she insists that in case of her death, he is never to marry again. And she warns that she’d be watching him from the spirit world. She is so demanding that the reader knows at once what’s coming: Tish will die, and Theo had better keep his promise. Or else.

For ten years Theo is true to his pledge, but being human, he eventually falls for a woman and marries her. Sheena is unsuitable in every way except in the bedroom. Their marriage is a colossal mistake. Theo’s two young adult children, Saskia and Ross, know it, and before long, so does Theo. Sheena is a slatternly woman, selfish and lazy, and her spoiled little dog is just as loathsome as she is. Soon Tish’s vengeful spirit begins to interfere, making it plain that she wants Sheena gone from her house and her man.

Lowe’s writing is deftly understated, even soothing, which makes the passages written from Sheena’s self-centered point of view even more riling to read. Sheena is a great character, outrageously annoying yet still true-to-life, someone I enjoyed despising. In fact all the characters are well-drawn and believable, their stories engaging. The book feels like an intimate narrative shared personally with the reader. Lowe’s welcoming, comfortable style reminds me of Angela Thirkell’s Barsetshire novels. She creates a captivating, believable world for her characters to inhabit, but one driven by an intriguing supernatural element.

Whisper to Me was great fun to read. Its conclusion satisfies, yet still manages to leave that all-important question lingering: What happens next? I’m hooked on these characters, and I’ve already ordered Not Reported Missing. I want to know more!

I love this author's novels about family life. 'Whisper to Me' is in a similar vein to her Willows Dip series. Theo, a widower of some years finally meets a woman who he feels would make a good wife number two. In his first imagined flush of love , more likely lust, he re-marries forgetting his promise to wife number one never to do so. The inevitible happens and his first wife, Tish's ghost, re emerges to drive her usurper out. One can almost feel sorry for Sheena, the second wife who is led more by her lack of morals and cleanliness than intelligence. Here is a story of revenge, regret and a way of seeking escape from a disasterous second marriage. I loved the final sentence which leaves the reader wondering. An enjoyable read and worthy of a Five Star rating.

Make Promises at your Peril – Especially if You Don’t Intend to Keep Them

Meet Theo Stanyer, Letitia (Tish), his wife, and Sheena plus her dog, Shandy. Saskia is Theo’s daughter, and the cast is complete with the family cat, Smokey. Of course, there are other characters, but the triangle between Theo, Tish, and Sheena seizes the focus from the moment that Theo makes his ill-fated promise never to marry, should Tish die.

This is the premise for Sherri Lowe’s short romantic ghost story.

Nobody sees the vengeful entity; her measures are subtler than that. She blights the atmosphere in her former home, with fragrances and sound. The two women in this triangle are opposed in many ways, Tish was a careful housewife, and Sheena is a slob. This creates humorous as well as threatening incidents.

‘Whisper to me’ presents a well-written and mercurial intrigue that takes its readers from fuchsias via a bee sting, a gardening show, an untrained dog, a temperamental cat, and a furious ghost to a climax – and a possible follow up in another instalment. Certainly, this is an unexpected and exhilarating read.

This is the third book I’ve read by Sherrie Lowe and I found it an enjoyable and absorbing quick read. At 151 pages, it’s a relatively short novel, but the story is nicely rounded with a satisfying ending – although it does leave us speculating as to what could happen next. Another book/sequel, perhaps?
As the first line of the book description says, the plot revolves around ‘A new wife and a vengeful ghost. Not a good mix’. This intriguing situation comes about when main character, Theo, fails to keep a promise he made to his first wife, Letitia (Tish): that if she died before him, he would never marry again. Not wanting to think of losing the wife he truly loved and believing her early death to be highly unlikely, he makes the promise.
Unfortunately, an unexpected incident later on causes Tish’s death. For ten years the promise is kept but, eventually, loneliness drives Theo to seek the companionship of a new wife. Bad choices, made in the hope of finding happiness with a woman who transpires to be the antithesis of the one he lost, are very soon regretted. Sheena is slovenly, selfish and lazy, with a completely untrained little dog, Shandy. The once loving family home Theo shared with his two children soon becomes one of deep anxiety and unhappiness: dirty and smelly, like Sheena and her piddling pooch!
The paranormal aspect is fascinating and I particularly enjoyed the scenes in which ‘the entity’ manifests itself – not in a visible ghostly form; Tish’s presence is felt as Ms Lowe allows readers to ‘see’ and ‘feel’ her anger as she watches and waits, as well as the actions she aims at the new wife, Sheena, These scenes are very well written and we soon find out the relevance of fuchsias on the front cover.
There is a cast of engaging and contrasting characters, including Theo’s haughty and firmly-established family cat, Smokey! His dealings with the intruding dog are very amusing and reflect the feelings of Theo’s daughter, Saskia, regarding her father’s filthy and unkempt new wife and her equally filthy little dog. Overall, an engaging read about family and relationships, with the added suspense of the paranormal.

After many years and his daughter, Saskia on the edge of flying the next Theo decides it is time he can have a relationship without knowing how much the promise meant to his wife. I enjoyed the premise and the character of Tish and Sheena will stay with me a long time,

This is a family drama with a ghostly twist and works well. The closeness of Theo and his daughter shines through until tensions rise not only between the new and old wife but step-mum and daughter. Even without the raging spirit, it is a good study of how relationships change with a new presence in the house but with the supernatural element things are taken to a new level. The two wives are complete opposites and when Tish stepped up her hauntings, I was torn between which one to rally for perfect Tish or over the top, brash Sheena who I could not help feeling sorry for. That said the descriptions of the house once she moved in and her dog’s habit made me cringe; the imagery will always stay embedded in my mind. The dynamics between the characters drew me in and kept me in the story wondering how far will the Tish’s anger would go. I could not help wonder whether Tish was as vindictive when alive to people she disliked or whether it was driven purely by jealously.

WOULD I RECOMMEND?
Yes it is an enjoyable hauntingly, cosy read which makes you question what would you do if a ghost in a similar circumstance.

Whisper To Me was a quick read about the enduring love between Tish and Theo.  On their anniversary Tish makes Theo promise that should she ever die, he would not marry again. Feeling pressured by his beloved wife's insistence, Theo made the promise Little knowing that he would, at a relatively young age, become a widower and Tish would hold him to the promise that he made.

Years later Theo falls for Sheena and her sexual appetite. After years of abstinence, Theo is blinkered to Sheena's lack of personal hygiene and the way that she allows the house that Tish had spent years keeping to a high standard, to become less and less clean and more odious due to her yappy dog's less than thorough house training and Sheena's obliviousness to her surroundings.

When Tish's furious and vengeful ghost starts to vent her fury, it takes Sheena a while to suspect exactly what may be happening. (Theo definitely didn't marry her for her intellect.)

I liked how well the characters were developed and the story flowed really well. The side stories added a depth to the main plot.

With an interesting mix of likeable and unlikable characters, I enjoyed Whisper to me, however, I was left unsatisfied with how the story was left.

Thank you to Sherrie Lowe and Rachels Random Resources for providing me with a review copy of Whisper To Me. This has not influenced my review.

In 2007 during a windswept night, Theo and his wife Letitia are travelling home together, when she says to him that if she died first that she didn't want him to remarry again and if he died she wouldn't want anyone ever again. Jump forward ten years to 2017 and he has done just that, got remarried to Sheena. But oh dear what has he done! Sheena has made enemies with Theo's daughter Saskia and even the cat hates her and her little lap dog but what hates her the most is the entity. Music playing and messages left are just the start.

An easy to read contemporary novel that will keep your attention till the end. With not only Theo's story but Saskia's too, as she finds love with boyfriend Richie.

Be careful what you agree to, an untimely decision could cause you problems in your family as Theo found out to his cost. Will all be settled with the entity looking over him or is there more surprises and shocks in store.

I really enjoyed this book, its not too long but has a lot of story crammed into it. I have given it 5☆ as it held my attention throughout and I loved the characters (maybe with one exception!).

Whisper To Me is a story about multiple romances, one that lives on beyond a mortal lifetime.
While one character has been mentioned before in a different novel, this book reads well as a stand alone.
It begins on a stormy night, a wedding anniversary, a happy day yet with drastic, dangerous weather. Tish Stanyer seems to have a foreshadowing sense of doom as she reminds her husband that they are meant to be each other`s one and only.
Sadly, on a different night, Tish leaves this world, and her husband who must raise their children by himself. From that stormy night forward, this book has a decidedly sinister feel.

We meet and view various relationships throughout this book, both human and animal, parental and romantic. Overall, even as things seem to be going very well, there is a sense of dis~ease, foreboding and unsettled. The characters are well rounded, easily identified as who to like and hate.
The whole time I was waiting for the next awful thing to happen.

Interesting read.

A wife secures a promise from her husband to never remarry in the event of her death. He agrees just to calm her fears and move away from the morbid subject.

Then she dies.

He remarries.

And Ghost-wife doesn’t like it one bit.

Theo Stanyer doesn’t believe in ghosts, but his new wife, Sheena, is insistent the spirit of his first wife, Tish, is terrorizing her.

Could it be true?

My first thought was how selfish of Tish to want her marriage to extend past till death do us part, instead of wanting her husband to be happy… even if it meant remarrying. But it’s hard to work up any sympathy for the slovenly Sheena when her crude, vindictive character and determination to keep her hooks in Theo are revealed.

Theo’s a decent man who lost the love of his life then dedicated a decade to raising his two children alone. Now they’re finding their own paths in life, he wants to move on from mourning and be happy again.

Not bloody likely when he’s caught between two mean wives, one alive… and the other not so much.

Unique characterizations of both wives. While they’re polar opposites, Tish and Sheena still have much in common, and I found myself only caring about Tish through the memories of Theo and their children.

Twenty-year-old Saskia still lives at home, has nothing but contempt for her new stepmother, and shows it every chance she gets. Twenty-three-year-old Ross lives with his girlfriend and seldom comes around. Theo feels the loss of his once-close relationship with his children but he’s hopeful Sheena and his children with eventually get along. At first.

The story takes a wild arc as Saskia’s life and journey to love plays out. The back and forth between her story-line and what is happening inside the Stanyer home was a disconnect for me and much of the time it felt like two different stories that only gelled when Theo was in the scene. Even the seance (sans Theo) felt pointless because it only serves to bring the young people together and doesn’t tell us anything new about Tish.

There appears to be a resolution concerning Sheena and happiness in Theo’s future, but will Tish allow it?

As a supernatural read, Whisper to Me is spot on! I was caught up in the anger of Tish, and the fear and stubbornness of Sheena. My heart broke for Theo’s frustration and self-doubt. And the bedroom scene where he loses it? Go, Theo!

But weaving Saskia’s love story through the read watered down the main story-line and didn’t work for me. Her story is a good one, but her extremes from being totally in love to I hate Sheena were exhausting and added nothing to the story.

The ending is abrupt and resolves little, which means I have to wait for the next book to see if Tish is still behaving badly, and I’m just not sure if I’m invested enough to continue.

Widower Theo has spent the years since his wife’s untimely death alone and celibate. That is until he meets Sheena, bubbly and passionate she is the opposite of Theo’s first wife, Tish. He quickly finds himself caught up in the whirlwind of a new exciting relationship fuelled by lust and passion. But, he seems to have forgotten something; the promise he made to Tish that he would never remarry if she were to die – but surely after mourning for so long she would want him to be happy?

Returning from their honeymoon Sheena soon realises someone or something oppressive in the house wants her out and it’s not just Theo’s daughter, Saskia. Despite her attempts to tell her new husband about her paranormal encounters, Theo finds it hard to believe the ghost of his first wife is behind the ghostly happenings. But Tish wants the new Mrs Stanyer out of both her home and her husband’s life; the question is how far will she go to achieve her goal?

This book jumps straight into the story with a flashback to Theo and Tish discussing her wishes should she die before him, setting the scene perfectly before fast-forwarding 10 years. It’s obvious from the outset of the story how different not only Tish and new wife Sheena are, but also how different the newly-weds are. Sheena is lazy and to all intense and purposes downright dirty, often going days without showering, something in the early throes of passion Theo has seemingly overlooked. Add to that the strained relationship Sheena has with Theo’s daughter Saskia and the relationship is already on shaky ground before the appearance of Tish’s vengeful spirit.

I really enjoyed this fast-paced novella which kept me on my toes throughout. I especially enjoyed the secondary storyline of Saskia’s budding romance which helped bulk the story out. I found the characters were well developed considering how short the book is and Sherrie has captured the essence of family relationships perfectly. I would however have liked some more examples Tish’s ‘hauntings’ included as I felt sometimes the focus shifted to other less exciting aspects of the story. I also found there was quite a bit of repetition of details unnecessary to the story.

Having said that it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book and I was hooked from page one, devouring it in a day. I’d love to see a full-length novel as a follow up as I feel the final chapter has certainly left the door open to the possibility. It’s a fantastic easy-read, that delivers exactly what it promises and ideal as a quick read when your reading time is limited.

Ooooh this is a nice short little book with a twist or two supplied by the soon to be ghostly figure of Tish. Now some men can be dumb, some believe they can cheat on the wife and others simply have a poor memory … I suspect Theo probably falls into each of these niches.

When he and Tish were loves’ young dream he casually agrees to one of Tish’s requests, never considering that the opportunity will ever arrive! Controlling Tish makes the statement quite clearly ‘If I die before you, don’t even think about re-marrying’ … now how would you react to that when young and in love? Yep, almost brushing the remark off the table he agrees.

Life moves on or at least it does for Theo, sadly Tish isn’t so lucky. A good few years later love reveals itself to Theo again in the shape of Sheena. She may have won him over but she annoyed the heck out of me but then I suppose that was the plan. It could be rather predictable if the reader has a good memory .. Theo is doing exactly what Tish forbade. Whisper to Me is a fine gem of a book, the characters range from cute to complex, there is animal activity to include any pet loving readers.

I read this very quickly and it forced it’s way into my head much as it should have done Theo’s, but is he sensible enough to finally realise there is no escape from a woman scorned!?

Thanks to the author, publisher and Rachel from Random Resources I read and reviewed this voluntarily and all thoughts are entirely my own.

This is a new author for me, and therefore the first book I have read by her. I was offered the opportunity to read this book as part of the blog tour. It is a reasonably quick read, standing at approximately 151 pages, so it’s ideal for finishing off in a day! When I read the synopsis, it obviously had a touch of the paranormal in it with its description of a vengeful ghost and it came across to me that this book was quite light-hearted. After reading it though, it was completely the opposite of what I expected with a lot of sorrow and regret!

The story is about Theo whose wife, Letitia died 9 years before. Before she died, she told Theo that if anything happened to her she didn’t want him to remarry. Thinking that she wasn’t going to die until she was an old woman, Theo goes along with it and promises her that. Sometime later, Letitia dies following anaphylactic shock from a bee sting. Theo is obviously devastated but carries on to bring up his two children on his own. Many years later though, he meets Sheena and remarries! Letitia’s spirit has obviously hung around in the house, keeping an eye on her husband, and is enraged to see him bring Sheena home. Letitia tries everything possible to get Sheena out of the house – Theo is hers, no one else can have him!

This book was completely different to what I expected! I thought it would be full of ghostly apparitions and things flying through the air but it was nothing like that. To be honest, it felt really sad. Theo obviously loved his wife more than anything, but he was also lonely. He lived with his daughter in the house, but he obviously needed the kind of love that his daughter couldn’t give him. Sheena was also widowed, and their relationship was definitely initially based on lust!! I have to be honest and say that Sheena was a horrible character!! The descriptions of her made me itch with Sheena being described in all manner of ways as dirty, unwashed, never changing her underwear and downright lazy! She also brought along her dog with her who took great pleasure to wee and poo wherever it pleased, without Sheena ever clearing it up!

Because of all this, I really felt for Theo. Obviously all he wanted was a “normal” woman – one who was just like his late wife. When he released what Sheena was really like, he regretted his decision to marry her. Theo’s is a really sad story, which no doubt will affect so many people, and I did think his part of the story was written really well, with great sensitivity towards Theo and his situation. I also thought that the idea of a vengeful ghostly wife was a great one, and whilst I initially thought it would be light-hearted I think the author did right by making it more serious. The whole ghost story was quite realistic, there were no ghostly visions or apparitions, but little things such as things moving, “cold” feelings and strange noises, which made me feel on edge and gave the whole book a creepy feel to it!

On the whole, I did enjoy the book! I have given it 4 stars, rounded up from a 3.5! I liked the parts with Theo and Sheena (and of course the essence of Letitia in the air!) and really got into them whilst reading it. I didn’t quite get the extended story of Theo’s daughter being added in, which for me spoilt the creepy feeling which was building up in Theo’s story! I understood the introduction of his daughter, as she is obviously part of the story, but there was a lot of her own story in there also – her work, meeting her boyfriend and buying her new home – which I didn’t really feel added anything to the story of Letitia’s ghost.

As a final note though, I did love the last few paragraphs! It does make you wonder what on earth is going to happen!!

Whisper to Me is a quick and sometimes spooky read! It kept me flipping the pages until the very end.

Theo was married to the love of his life, Tish, for many years. From the ominous opening, I knew their happy days were numbered. Tish makes Theo promise he won’t marry again, and he does, never believing Tish will soon be gone.

He has kept his promise for years until he meets Sheena. She is nothing like Tish, but Theo is entranced by her. His grown children aren’t impressed, and his dead wife Tish is livid. There is nothing more sinister than a mad ghost, especially one who is determined to get rid of her husband’s new wife.

This isn’t just the story of Sheena and Theo. There are multiple romances. It was a different sort of novel, but it kept my interest. I kept wondering what Tish would do next. I wasn’t a fan of Sheena’s either. I was a fan of Theo even though I felt like he entered his marriage with Sheena quickly.

For a shorter book, there was a lot happening within the pages. There were times I felt like it might be just a bit rushed, but I wanted to know how all this was going to end. It appears there will be more to Theo’s story, so I’m looking forward to reading more in the series!

The blurb for this had me hooked and I knew I needed to read it. It’s a cautionary tale about not making promises you can’t keep and I really enjoyed this one.

I love that this is a family drama with a ghostly twist. The characters are really well rounded and drive the plot forward, and the supernatural twist adds an extra layer to an already well-written novel.

If you love family dramas and you love paranormal, Whisper to Me is a fantastic blend of the two. I highly recommend it.
