This series went from "it's a fun little read" to "omg, I love it so much!!!" as the books went on. It just keeps getting better and better.
Grier is finally got her feet under her with Linus by her side. He is the perfect book boyfriend. Extremely powerful being that can kill anything at night - sweet guy who makes her breakfast every morning. Very swoon-worthy!
This is a gamer smoothie.
Grier's smoothie is a little bloodier.
Mine would include chocolate, caffeine, and maybe a little Prozac depending on my crazy level that day.
It's all about individual tastes.
When it comes to reviewing this series it's hard to give any details because everything is building from the very first book. It isn't a case where the heroine is solving a new case or a fighting a new enemy each book. It is a large overarching story that is unfolding one book at a time. Each book reveals new parts to the story and there are a lot of surprises which is why I would spoil if I gave details.
In other words, I'm not just rambling and going off on tangents in my reviews because I didn't get enough Prozac in my morning smoothie. I'm doing it for you.
Things I can tell you?
1. There are two proposals in this book. One with a donut and one with a bread tie.
2. Grier realizes someone has been lying to her. Again. At this point she should just become a dentist. At least they expect to be lied to every day.
3. You will like this series if you like Urban Fantasy.

I have no idea how Hailey Edwards does this, but I am wowed again. The stakes are rising higher than ever before, and Edwards gives us this gorgeous story packed with romance (SQUEEEEEEE!!!!!), danger, and mystery. She has found this perfect balance that give us everything we need and even things we didn't know we wanted.
At the end of Undead Waltz, Grier, Linus, and company were facing the uncertainty of where Grier stands with both Lacroix (worst grandfather ever) and the Marchands (somehow slightly less worse???). While we have connections to both of these looming dangers in Undead Lie, the big focus is on Grandpa. What are Lacroix's plans? How can they find a way to protect the Society from the threat of rogue vampires with a shared mission?
The pacing is exquisite, and all is revealed in a way that we're not given the easy answers; instead, we're teased with little hints until everything becomes clear, much like Undead Waltz. This slow, purposeful reveal is something that works so well in this series, and it keeps me hooked on that main conflict, that main mystery until the very last "OH D*MN" moment.
Now, to the gushy wonderfulness that is our other big concern: #TeamLier Be still my heart, I am ruined for other book boyfriends. If I had the wit, I'd share some snappy slogan about never settling after "meeting" Linus, but my brain has been overrun by the sheer adorableness of this relationship.
Linus and Grier have this masterful balance between challenging, supporting, and healing one another. I LOVE the dynamic between them, how Grier sees all the parts of Linus that no one else does, and the way she's devoted to giving him the value that he's truly worth. He helps to empower her, and we continue to see her grow through his encouragement and support.
In many ways, they're both extremely powerful beings, yet they each have little insecurities and past experiences that have wounded them. There's a symbiotic healing happening that makes me truly wonder how anyone could think she would fit better with someone else.
There are very big developments (and some bumps along the way) for their relationship, but it's all SO NATURAL. Even when they're fighting with each other (or let's be honest, Grier is mad, and Linus is scared she'll kick him out) their interactions feel effortless. The chemistry is so pure and just an absolute delight to read.
There's also great development when it comes to the Amelie/Adelaide/Boaz story-lines, and I'm really hoping that Lethe and Hood stick around for the long run because they're quickly becoming favorites of mine. Grier's really getting a strong network of loved ones/pack/family wrapped around her, and it's exactly what she deserves. There's going to be some big confrontations coming in the next book, and she's going to need all of the love and support that she can get.
Honestly? I could continue to go on for pages about why this book was amazing, how the characters are impressive, that the romance made me laugh, SQUEAL, and generally freak the f*ck out, but the most important thing to know is you won't regret the time or money invested in this book.

Yay!!
What I absolutely love about this series is that it manages to surprise me. Every. Damn. Time!
It's so hard to find books that have that unexpected element. And I don't mean that main-char-dies, bad sort of surprise. I'm talking about that omg-omg-omg-how-could-this-happen-i-love-it sort of thing.
I love it!
And even more, this author is incredible! I've read stuff from her before but, for some reason, I completely forgot about it. She's amazing, her characters are actual people, the world-builder is yay.
Definitely worth reading this series (and please don't stop after the first 2 books, that's where stuff gets interesting!)

This is fifth in an Urban Fantasy series with character and story arcs that build over time. I definitely recommend reading in order.
Yeah, you know what you're getting by this time. And you do get that. Plus, the culmination of the Linus/Grier relationship and that's all kinds of awesome.
But really, at this point the plot is on auto-pilot because we know the bad guys and we know their plans, more or less. So this is mostly about marshalling resources and getting the conflict done.
Unfortunately, the author steps in near the end and rescues that bad guy through a deus ex asinus. He was down. Grier and Linus had defeated him fair and square. So frankly, I'm done with the series. All the things I care about are finished. Linus and Grier are in love and happy. The bad guy's plot is exposed. They've taken care of business. And I just don't care at all about the remaining mystery (who killed Maud). I never have because the only real meaning there is the impact on Grier and that's been "fixed" (culminated?). And the whole Marchand family stuff that Grier and Linus are gearing up to research/datamine doesn't matter, either.
So let's call this four stars because I had fun. And I'm going to move on to the Potentate of Atlanta series. I'm a bit ambivalent because I don't much care about Amelie (who is starting a new life under a new name, I assume this happens in the next story or epilogues), but I'm willing to let the author convince me.
A note about Steamy: They do it, finally. The actual doing it happens on page and it was fairly well done (though I don't buy how well it works out given we're working with , here). There's more sex after, but it's all off page. So this is the lightest of my steam tolerance and was a great culmination.

How to Live an Undead Lie starts about a week after the end of the last book. Their are many secrets revealed, Odette is missing, and Corbin her prodigy has come knocking on her door. What will Grier do?
Grier keeps her head even when others betray her and have no problem doing it. I think it’s time she starts fighting back, because others in her life have no problem screwing her over. I was happy to see Grier continue to learn about her world, make her own choices, and develop her relationships.
Linus and Grier are dating and their relationship is progress nicely. I really like Linus. He gives Grier the time she needs to move the relationship along and doesn’t pressure her. The every looming sadness that Linus will leave her; because she isn’t good enough is present. Will they be together or not?
I like the side characters; except I’m done, just done, with the Pritchards. They need to go.
How to Live an Undead Lie is another delightful addition to the series. I was pulled in from begging to end and couldn’t believe the betrayal that happened. I can’t wait to see what’s next; because this one ends on a cliffhanger.

Just keeps getting better and better!
If you want a series not like the others but still set in a world with a familiar feeling and background, with hauntings and ghosts, vampires and necromancers, you definitely need to try this series. So much fun!

Another enjoyable entry in the Necromancy series. As an aside, the 'necromancy' seems to be similar to 'magic,' except the skill can also raise vampires. So if the reader is actually interested in different concepts of death-related magic (think Gideon the Ninth), this is not the series.
This one is a little more about stabilizing Grier and Louis' relationship in Savannah. Lethe and Hood are at the house. It opens with the group playing pirates with Oscar on Wooly's property. Oscar disappears and is returned by someone named Corbin, who Grier helped before but had not remembered. Amelie is living in the carriage house, but needs further training after Odette has gone missing.
The relationships are easily the most enjoyable part about this story, with easy banter between Lethe and Grier, including an absolutely hysterical scene where they acknowledge their new friendship. Edwards' genius, however, is that it is then transformed into an insightful moment as well. There was a nice relationship role-reversal as well.
The references are all current, which probably will date this book somewhat, but makes it fun for the reader:
"Vampires are predators.' Lacroix bared his teeth, but he kept his fangs tucked politely away. 'They are made for the hunt, for the kill.' He must have remembered not everyone present was on Team Murder Good. I was Team Murder Bad, but I doubted there was a local chapter."
"You have a notepad on the nightstand,' Hood countered. 'You're making a list of names.' Lethe rounded her pretty green eyes. "Those could be baby names for all you know."
"We're not naming our daughter 'Fucking Rat Face Marsha Dover' or 'Flaming Asshat Rhonda Bent.'"
As always, Grier is Super Speshul, but Reading Brain Don’t Care.™

How to Live an Undead Lie bursts with so much charm and love that it is impossible to put down. The character development continues to be so well done and the world-building continues to expand with each passing novel. The plot arc is also so so so rich and it brings so many new developments and revelations this time, and they’re all extremely impactful and meaningful to Grier’s journey.
Hailey Edwards has created a phenomenal world with this series and the stories just keep getting better and better. The writing is compelling, the pace is steady and engaging, and the action scenes and relationship development are so on point that it is the easiest thing to get lost in this book. Another favorite one for the shelves!
I HAVE SO MANY WORDS TO DESCRIBE MY LOVE FOR THIS SERIES!!! The world-building is so fresh and I’m in love with how it continues to steadily expand with each new book. The new elements are always so relevant to the plot and work together to create this unique and cohesive world. It’s amazing.
The characters continue to be absolute gems. I love love love how they all learn and change and grow in each book, even if it means succumbing to their own personal flaws. It adds such a realistic element to the plot and makes the characters well rounded and so interesting. And Grier, our POV character, has grown so much through everything and it’s such a delight to accompany her on this journey as she learns what kind of person she wants to be.
And the romance, I WANT TO CRY!!!! Edwards portrays such a healthy relationship with open communication and respect of boundaries and genuine respect and support between Grier and Linus and it warms me to my very soul. Their growing feelings for each other and the development of their relationship is so well done that I get butterflies whenever they’re having a sweet moment. I LIVE I DIE I LIVE AGAIN, I love those two so much!!!
In the end, How to Live an Undead Lie manages to blow past all of my Very High expectations and delivers such a beautiful and compelling story that is filled with the power of friendship, loyalty, intrigue, lots of fights, quite a bit of blood, and the sweetest ending in the world. I absolutely cannot wait for what’s come!

I loved this book. Super loved. I think that is thanks to the romance reader in me who hangs her hearts on relationships in the story. Don’t get me wrong, this book and this series have a lot of great things going for it. But at it’s best for me is Linus and his absolute, total love for Grier.
This is it. This is the Linus book. And I couldn’t have been happier with that. It starts strong, with these two in their “honeymoon phase." They’ve only been together for a week or so and they are absolutely heart melting together. Yes, things happen. Grier's progeny shows up at her door, a newly made vampire with no idea how to feed or do anything else. Plus he is on the run from Linus's mom. Greer must parlay with her grandfather to give Corbin the instruction he needs while getting herself an inside look into what big bag Gramps is planning.
In the meantime, her friendship is thriving with Lethe and Hood. There is a pretty good subplot going on about Lethe being challenged for dominance by some outsiders from her pack. Odette is missing. If you don’t remember her, she is the seer who was friends with Maud. And all that’s great, but… Linus.
I spent the entire book with my heart in my throat, waiting for the other shoe to drop. You know when things are just too good and you know something bad is going to blow it all to hell? I’m not going to spoil it, but there is a really rough scene toward the end.
Overall, though. This was one of the most satisfying reads I’ve had this year. I cannot wait for the next installment to come out. I’m going to stop gushing now.

In this installment things are hopping at the Woolworth House. Grier's nightmares continue and with each dream she remembers more about the night Maud died. When an unexpected visitor arrives, she will have to make plans to protect him. To do so, she will have to barter with her grandfather. Meanwhile, Odette is missing, a wolf is challenging her friend for dominance and Amelia is in trouble. Did I mention her grandfather is up to now good? What unfolds was a page-turner with plenty of twists and danger.
I love Grier. She is strong, compassionate and level-headed. Sure she will kick your ass to protect those in her circle but she isn't afraid of sharing her plans and asking for backup. I find it all rather refreshing given the norm for this genre is the complete opposite. Yes, Kate and Mercy I am looking at you! I love the dynamics of Greir's friendships and the growing relationship with Linus. Before this story ends, she will be betrayed and will need this circle of friends.
Edwards does a wonderful job of building the world and peeling back the layers of her characters. The magical and supernatural world has a familiarity but Edwards brings some refreshing elements. I love books featuring necromancers and Grier has unique abilities we haven't even scratched the surface of. It is those elements that making her a desirable target.
All the new threads wrapped up nicely and I loved the romantic development. Overall arc threads saw twists leaving us with a cliffhanger. I am eager to see where Edwards takes us next. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

I was really looking forward to immersing myself in this new novel. I love this series and I had a great time with this volume! And I can tell you that once again, it was a lot of fun!
Grier evolves, asserts herself and makes choices in relation to Linus, choices that are really touching. And then of course, there’s Lethe and Hood and their exchanges are always really great. It is amazing to see how important Lethe has become in Grier’s life. However, their existence is not a long quiet river and it begins with the arrival of the boy that Grier transformed into a vampire when she was in Atramentous. He is looking for an asylum, a place where he will no longer be locked up and our heroine logically turns to her grandfather. Yet, he may well have hidden agendas, agendas for which she is the key.

There are also some revelations even if we quickly understand what is happening for one of the storylines. However, I was curious to find out all the explanations. Of course we don’t have all the answers yet, and I’m even more excited to have Volume 6 now!

5 Stars... Can I just start out by saying how I love the way in which the secondary characters in this series contribute to the humorous aspect of the read... Lethe's and Grier's friendship is genuine, heartfelt, and comical (The donut BFF proposal was hysterical!); Love how these characters play off of one another and add depth to the storyline through their interactions... Then there is Linus and Grier and they are simply, WOW... Their connection is sincere and respectful but filled with a solid mix of intensity and vulnerability... It was wonderful to see Grier finally come into her own and demonstrate her strength and independence as well as assert her wants and needs... Add in a storyline filled with betrayal, mystery, powerful magic, and action and you have the making of an excellent read... I am eagerly anticipating the next book in this series; is it June yet???:)

Not as great as the previous installment yet pretty good. I loved seeing Grier grow, and accept her role and the new bonds she has in life. She was all about moving forward in this book which I loved. And can I say I want my own Linus? That my friends is called a devoted man, who still loved you despite you never giving him any indication that someday they might become more. I loved Linus and Grier be together and overcome their doubts. They became a solid team here and I loved how Grier fought for him!

I LOVE THIS SERIES!!! I have finally found a new series that sits right up there with the Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson icons!! And that, my friends, is the highest praise possible.
Ms. Edwards has developed and honed her writing skills since her first series to absolute perfection with Grier, Linus and the crew here in the Necromancer series. The storyline flows without a hitch - both within each installment and in the overall arc. The characters are well fleshed out and incredibly believable. The author gives us heroes to love and villains that are multi-layered.
This installment is a bit less action-packed as it allows us to follow Grier and Linus as their relationship grows and develops. It is beautiful and heart-melting yet never sappy. It also serves to deepen our understanding of both characters and ties us even more tightly to the overall plot-line.
However, for those who read for the action - it hits with a vengeance when the time comes! The ending does lead us off a bit of a cliff but not enough to balk at... and there is a lovely ending that leads into the next book beautifully and makes the reader even more impatient for this amazing series to continue!

Can we say crescendo?? I know I just wrote a review about the 4th book but I started this one and would have needed to be bound in a strait jacket to put it down. Before I get into my thoughts, quick synopsis.
Grier has accepted that she has feelings for Linus. Their relationship is still a tad rocky because she knows he has secrets that he can't share though we see glimpses of how desperately he wants to. One day a vampire shows up to Woolworth House and we learn that Grier is his maker. She doesn't remember much of her time in Atramentous but she was told that she created a Deathless which is basically a super immortal vampire and Corbin is that guy. Corbin escaped a minimal security prison and thanks to Dame Lawson, figured Grier was his best path towards freedom.
Instead of letting him go, Grier comes up with a different plan that involves infiltrating Gaspard LaCroix's lair, aka her vampire grandfather. The Undead Coalition has disbanded and there seems to be greater evil on the horizon. Meanwhile, Grier is still trying to figure out how to sort of mend her broken relationship with Amelie while dealing with a pregnant gwyllgi who is being challenged for her position in the pack. All of this and more leads to this giant culmination of a big reveal, betrayal and danger but also an unexpected expansion of allies for Woolworth clan.
Like I said in my previous review, the navigation of Grier and Linus' relationship is so naturally paced. He's still wary about doing the wrong thing because he loves Grier with his entire soul. He expects if he slips up even once that she's going to drop him like a sack of potatoes. This trait is something even Grier has to come to terms with because she's so used to being lied to and hurt that even though love is staring her in the face she is in awe of the fact that it's real. They have some really poignant moments with all these little pockets of insecurity being patched up by one another. My heart seriously exploded over them with all types of tears on my ridiculous emotional spectrum. They are probably my favorite urban fantasy couple of all time right now.
I also want to wax poetic about Lethe and Hood. I love the dynamic between these two mates because they are really great at not only protecting Grier physically but mentally as well. Lethe is that blunt and honest friend that says what she means and means what she says always and its a refreshing BFF hole that Grier did not expect to fill after Amelie's betrayal. Lethe was simply outstanding; always knowing when to lighten the mood with her endless jokes and teasing but readily available when Grier needed to cry herself to exhaustion.
I really, really love this family that is growing in Woolworth house. I'm at a point now where I never want this series to end because it's definitely, officially a favorite.

I have really enjoyed listening to every book in the Beginner's Guide to Necromancy series on audio. They are all on Kindle Unlimited as well. So I am trying to do a review without too many spoilers, and not just repeat the blurb.
Wow, nothing ever goes exactly like I think it will! I was happy to see her continue to learn about her world, to make her own choices and develop her relationships (of all types). I continue to be a big fan of Linus. He is just the most steadfast, swoon-worthy guy. He's always there for her without ego or expectation.
Grier has really grown her skills in dealing with betrayal, and the immature. She keeps her head in some rotten situations. I was terrified in a few instances. Why can't Grier ever have a total win? Well at least she sticks it to the Grand Dame, who tries to control Linus. So even though they are new to relationships, Linus and Grier are winning at it. I LOVE how she has recognized how awesome he is and does what she can to protect and help him, but also show him she cares.
And Grier totally cares about others. That is how she gets snared in, since of course, the villains don't care about others. She even gives to those who are total assholes, and even those who have betrayed her. I'm totally excited to see what happens next when she delves more into her past, in How to Wake an Undead City in June, which sounds ominous.

Rebecca Mitchell is Grier for me and also Linus. I noticed more the distinct voices of the other characters this time, such as Oscar, Odette, Neely, Lethe and Hood. I listened at my newer 1.5x speed. It was such a pleasure listening.

Grier is in for a big surprise when one of her vampiric progeny, Corbin, shows up on her doorstep and doesn’t even know how to be a proper vampire. She decides to enlist the help of her grandfather and hopes to get more out of the deal than just the safety and training of Corbin. Grandpa Lacroix has big plans of his own that may endanger everyone Grier knows in Savannah.
I love all the characters that Grier has gathered to her side. We finally get more Neely in this installment of the series, yay! And I really enjoy the antics of Lethe, who has replaced Amelie as Grier’s BFF. There is a scene where Grier proposes to her with a donut that had me giggling and oddly hungry for sweets. And don’t get me started on Linus, I love that boy to pieces. I can’t wait to see how these two defeat the bad guys in the next book.

Battle lines are drawn
I love that now Grier is coming into her own and is surrounding herself with the people she trusts and can rely on. some relationships are severed, some are gained, and others are tentatively rebuilt. Another fantastic chapter in this ongoing series.

This latest book has me wondering where the series is going to go. Grier is still trying to figure things out. The last book left us with her grandfather, a super big time vampire, coming out and claiming her as his. Boaz is engaged to an amazing woman who is too good for him, and Linus is still steady and lovely as always. He’s finally told Grier something she’s been needing to know for a while, and I’m glad that part worked out well. One more person is added to Team Grier this book, and I kind of like him.
Her progeny has showed up at her door saying he escaped the prison they were held at. Grier knows that no one escapes and suspects Linus’ mother. With no way of teaching him vampiric ways, she asks her grandfather for a favor. She suspects this may have been the Grande Dame’s plan all along, but can’t be sure.
But as if Grier hasn’t suffered enough, another big betrayal is coming. The hits just don’t stop. This series is like a who’s who of people who have betrayed Grier. Can a girl catch a break?
I need to preface this with I love Linus. I do! I like Grier and Linus together. But…after everything Grier has been through, I feel like this commitment is too early. Linus was so patient, it wouldn’t have been all that big of a deal to make them wait longer. And with me being such a romantic I realize it seems like the opposite of something I’d want! But seriously, these two have centuries together and I’m not 100% sold that Grier knows what/who she wants.
As usual, many things were left undone or unsaid. But since it’s Urban Fantasy, that’s normal. I just have to remind myself of that! But I have questions! Until next book, I guess.

Every time I pick up a new Grier book, I marvel over how far she's come from the nearly broken girl freshly released from Atramentous to a powerful woman with friends who will have her back no matter the cost to them. Side note: Linus's devotion to Grier makes me so ridiculously happy. I mean, her newfound friends are fabulous and everything, but Linus has been there for her since before she noticed him and I ADORE that.
So. Things are progressing on the romance front. Things are cautiously moving forward on the old-friends front. Grier is forming alliances and putting things into motion that could have far-reaching effects.
She's also learning more about what she's capable of. Which is good, but it's also opening her up to remembering the events that led to her being imprisoned in the first place. Which is, again, good, but it's a lot for the poor girl to take in.
On the plus side, all those friends I mentioned above (both new and old) provide plenty of people for Grier to lean on when things get tough.

One of my favorite things about this series is the humor and lovability of the characters. Horrible events are happening yet the author keeps things real by mixing humor in to break up the seriousness and to endear readers to her characters. I have quit interesting series before because it gets too grim and the characters are too uptight. My number one requirement is humor. Make me laugh and cry and I'm sold.
Grier's progeny shows up at her door. She knows about him but does not remember creating him since she was drugged the entire time she was imprisoned in Atramentous. He has escaped and needs protection.
Grier has an idea that the Grande Dame may have allowed him to escape to manipulate Grier because she knows exactly what Grier will do. Grier turns to her newly found grandfather, the master vampire who she cannot trust and who has some sort of nefarious plans in the works.
She places Corbin, her progeny, with her grandfather as a spy. It's dangerous and could get him killed but she has no other choice.
Meanwhile, there are still other mysteries and threats to Grier's livelihood that she has to unravel as she deals with like the disappearance of her friend the seer, Odette. Then there is the powerful shade who has possessed her ex-bestie. She still needs to figure out how to expel him.
I am a little confused about one storyline and may have just missed it being solved but who sent the archers in the last book? Did that ever get answered? Was that Dame Balewa?
I'm off to read the next book in this series.

Okay. I finished this days ago and it looks like kindle lost my review.
I’m enjoying this series well enough, but it does get a little repetitive. The characters do not deviate too far from the norm, and it gets a little frustrating at times. I’m still finding the ongoing mystery interesting, and the relationship between the characters keeps evolving, so that’s something.

Arghh, I blame life for getting in the way of finishing this in one day. But I got to savor it and that is great as well. What a ride this book was and I can't wait for the next!
So much happens in this book it is hard to review. But LIER is on and it is yummy! I love Grier and Linus together. Grier discovers the truth(s) about the night Maud died, but those are not the only secrets revealed in this book. While Grier was mostly alone in book 1, now she is surrounded with people she loves and who love her. I couldn't be more happy for her, even when she gets betrayed again. I nearly cried at the end, but be assured you can close the book with a (happy) sigh.
There is another book coming because we are actually left in a dire situation, but somehow the author gave the book an ending you can cherish until we have the next book!
So much happens in this book it is hard to review. But LIER is on and it is yummy! I love Grier and Linus together. Grier discovers the truth(s) about the night Maud died, but those are not the only secrets revealed in this book.
