Holmes’ captivating follow-up paranormal series that obsessed readers have described as “unputdownable” and “spellbinding”. If you love paranormal fiction at its spookiest, with plenty of action and suspense, along with a tough and independent heroine you’ll want to stand up and cheer for, you will fall in love with this best-selling series… but proceed with you’ll be up all night reading!
Portraits of the Something sinister is drawing restless spirits to a tiny old museum, luring them with a promise of salvation it cannot deliver upon. Meanwhile, Durupinen are being brutally attacked, and their gifts are being twisted with a Casting too terrible to comprehend. Can Jess discover the connection between the two mysteries before she—or someone she loves—becomes the next victim?
Heart of the Again and again, the same dreadful prediction...a remote prison fortress, a fierce battle, an unthinkable outcome. For Jess Ballard, the signs could not be clearer; if the Durupinen want to maintain their control over the Gateways to the spirit world, they will have to battle for them at the ancient Skye Príosún, where even now a rebellion is brewing, ready to burst the barriers of the ancient stronghold. The challenges are formidable... but so is the young woman facing them.
Soul of the An enigmatic rune keeps revealing itself to Jess—in artwork, in dreams, and even scrawled upon the ancient stones of the Geatgrima at Fairhaven. No one can identify it, but its warning is something dangerous is coming, a revelation that could end the Gateway system forever. Jess must follow the clues where they lead—forming unlikely alliances along the way. When her journey takes her at last to an ancient creature deep in the heart of the príosún, the truth she learns presents her with the most troubling question of what if her Durupinen gift was never really a gift at all, but something altogether darker?
E.E. Holmes grew up near Boston, Massachusetts, where she spent the majority of her childhood reading books. She read them almost constantly, and as a result, perfected the art of walking and reading at the same time, a skill she can still perform to this day with remarkably few instances of falling on her face. She also wrote many books and poems in blank books and on the backs of legal pads her father brought home from the office. They remain some of her finest work.
She soon learned to love literature of the dramatic persuasion, and earned a B.A. in theater from the College of the Holy Cross. After graduation, she set out to prove that her degree was, in fact, not useless, and worked as a principal actor in a summer Shakespeare festival and as a theater teacher, directing over thirty productions and numerous workshops for youth and high school students. She spent several years as the theater director at Wakefield High School where she also taught English literature and public speaking. It was in her classroom that she discovered the horrible truth: a disturbingly large percentage of high school students hate to read. This revelation devastated and bewildered her. She decided she wanted to do something about it, and thus she started work on her first young adult novel, Spirit Legacy: Book 1 of the Gateway Trilogy, which has gone on to win awards from Chanticleer Book Reviews and Media and The Independent Publisher Book Awards. She is also the author of three one act plays, one of which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
E.E. Holmes lives in central Massachusetts with her husband, two children, and small, but surprisingly loud dog. When not writing, she enjoys watching unhealthy amounts of British television, procrastinating, and rediscovering her favorite books from her childhood all over again with her kids.
What a series, Jess, Hannah Finn and Milo of course. All the danger, excitement and mind boggling adventures throughout has kept me enthralled. A series well worth reading.
E.E. Holmes is one very impressive writer and, by implication, human being... The deep understanding of the many and various characters, Jess in particular, is what enables the reader to seamlessly share the leap into the Durupinen reality. Holmes is that rare true talent, an almost 'naturally magical' storyteller. I can think of only one other series in the many, many I've discovered on my Kindle (am mostly disabled and read a LOT) that swept me up and is as totally engaging as the Gateway novels. I'm only halfway through the collections, but couldn't wait to heap on some praise!;):) To discover such a fine writer is here almost exponentially magnified by the delightful length of the series; it is rare that one is given the opportunity to share this much time with characters that have become more real and beloved with each book. A truly unforgettable series of adventures!
I love the characters, the mix of modern and historic timelines. It’s like a fight for equal rights, personal beliefs and the lessons that change isn’t wrong or bad. It maybe challenging to get people to understand the difference. I highly recommend this author, who’s new to me, and her stories to anyone who believes that doing as the right things, for the right reasons is ultimately worth the time and energy. Good reading.
I am not typically a reader! When I started the first set of books I was instantly drawn in to the story. It captivated me instantly, the way E.E Holmes wrote these books is amazing and captivating almost instantly. I struggle to put them down which says alot because again I'm not an avid reader. Thank you so much for the excitement and thrill you have written in these pages.
The way the story develops is gripping and i can't stop reading this series. The characters are likeable (well most of them) and its so easy to read once ypu finish one book you can't waot to start the next one.
I have really enjoyed reading this series. The authors imagination is amazing. There are so many twists and turns in this series that it is very hard to put down.
