The Art of Compression

Rate this book
In this eBook, Grammy Awarded Mix Engineer Thomas Juth shares his views on compression and mixing. The book aims to be to-the-point and easy to read, and is written from a personal and an unique perspective. The Art of Compression does not aim to be “just another mixing book”, and it won’t teach you how to use a specific DAW or specific plugins. Instead, it focuses on an equally important subject when trying to learn how to mix – mixing philosophy and the thought processes behind a great mix. Thomas discusses topics such 1. Different types of compressors 2. How to choose the right compressor for the right job 3. How to add punch and character without loosing dynamics 4. Tips and tricks, for a more clean and tight compression This book has not been written with the total beginner in mind, but for those who already have basic knowledge of compressors and mixing.

Philosophy of mixing for everyone. Dummies and masters

I know it is not the best way to learn about mixing but you should be really interested if you are looking for a guide. It is a book for whom who loves audio and music.

I won't add more, it is everything here and I know Thomas had been working on different books separately. Sometimes when you are mixing you are in it, yeah, but you don't feel that, it is not a question of a high gear, it is about how you would convert that mix in a touch-feeling product and the fact it is that you really need to know what you are going to do.

I like it, really.

This book is easy to read and it inspires me.

English is not my native language, but author wrote the book which is easy to read and understand. It contains much useful and even practical information related to workflow and minimum empty words. So, I highly recommend it for the people who confused with mixing. This book helps to set everything on the right place.

So well done

This book really showed me the overall of compression. I finally got the full picture that I haven’t received by watching many YouTube videos and other articles on compression. So I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to figure out the in and out of this particular aspect of music production.

Helpful and concise description of different compressors.

Very helpful to have specific compressors detailed in there design and nature of response and coloring of sound. This hands on experiential description of applying compressors made it much easier to envision and remember the material. Will use as a reference from time to time.

Great intro for noobs like me

This is a great short and sweet introduction to compressors.
I like how "straight to the point" the author is and explains how to use the different compressors without wasting to much time explaining theory that we don't need.

Great

This book simplifies and takes the mystery out of compression. A good book to help a new mixing engineer understand compression.
