Bad news arrives in the rest-stop town of Rivira on the 18th floor: someone has been murdered. The prime suspect is Gale Wind, the blacklisted fugitive with a bounty on her head. Bell and his companions can't believe their ears. But as they are preparing to pursue her in order to clear her from suspicion, Cassandra has a terrible precognitive dream. It contains seventeen prophecies-and if it comes true, the people she cares for most are fated to die. Overcome with despair, the prophetess of tragedy begins a solitary battle against ruin. Meanwhile, Bell searches for the truth about Lyu. Yet when he finally encounters the elf, whose heart burns with the black flames of vengeance, unprecedented calamity lets out its newborn cry!
This read more like a volume of Goblin Slayer in its action scenes and gruesome content. It also directly links to the Lyu standalone volume, although you don't need to have read that to read this. I definitely should have had volume fourteen on hand, though - this is your official cliffhanger warning.
But really, the most important thing about this volume is the lesson that any third grader worth their salt could tell you:
So I figured I'd take a break from the couple of series I've been forging through and go back to the DanMachi books our library has that I haven't read (13, 14, 15). Silly me, I only picked up volume 13 thinking it'd be a nice diversion and I could get back to trying to catch up on some others. GONG! Bad Idea! Volume 13 is the first of a two-parter and I read it in just a couple of hours. I really did not want to put it down.
Lyu seems to be in trouble. Bell (and friends but mostly Bell) can't let that be. Cassandra, as her namesake, has a vision of something terrible and of course nobody believes her. So strap in for a crazy, wild ride through the dungeon with plots within plots within plots.
I'm definitely going to have to pick up volume 14 a bit earlier than I expected, but that's okay, I have always liked DanMachi.
Took me forever to finish this, but I haven't been reading much of anything lately. Like the last book, there's kind of a lot of action. This whole book is basically set in the dungeon.
It's cool that the author hasn't decided to throw away side characters. We see a lot of returning faces and it's them that drive the plot rather than the MC.
This volume starts another adventure for Hestia Familia, and it will conclude in volume 14. We're back to dungeon diving, Bell keeps doing cool stuff and the ending was a massive cliffhanger.
Danmachi becomes much much darker as Bell is pushed to his absolute limits and then further. I e always thought as danmachi as rather soft but this entry proves that the danger adventurers face in the dungeon is much more real and cruel than anything the gods can fathom - this felt more like goblin slayer/predator than the happy go lucky danmachi were used to and thank god for that! This series just keeps getting better with each entry!
I am so excited to have finished this book because it matches up with the game event on memoria freeze. I have always liked Lyu and wanted to know more about her backstory. I was a bit disappointed that she was not as strong as she was depicted during the Goliath attack and the War Game, but I think the author does a good job in depicting the lasting effects of trauma. I am sure the next book will show more character growth, and I can't wait for it.
With the last volume being about Bell and his group of friends' growth, Bell constantly being paralyzed with shock and indecision in this volume started growing on my nerves. When he is passive, he is SUPER passive until something happens (usually to his friends) to finally switch him into being an active participant. This is when he shines at his best, but boy, does it take a while for him to get there.
Another great dungeon-centered book, with a focus on Lyu and - surprise! - Cassandra. The struggles of the prophetess added an interesting layer to the adventure tale. The battles were great as usual, things are getting more and more intense and desperate as the volumes go. Ends on a cliffhanger, thank gawd I have the next volume with me.
Fujino Omori brings another great book in this serie. Action packed with a solid story and characters that keeps evolving, each one of them is well describe and adds to the story meaningfully. Can’t wait for the next book.
What are you Fujino Omori-sensei ?!??! Another epic volume that really made me read like a mad sad man who is desperate to help them with all his might. Truth be said, you are awsome Fujino-sensei and I admire the way you write and build up your event without extensions
