The Johnsburg Clinic for Adolescent Females had been open and servicing the local community for three years. Specializing in providing exceptional health care for young teen-aged girls, it acquired a reputation for being unorthodox in the manner of conducting first-time woman-care examinations for young girls. Through rumors and gossip by teens who had visited the Clinic, many girls had hoped their parents would not require them to go there for their physical exams. However, since five high schools from surrounding counties had contracted with the Clinic, more pressure was put on high school aged girls from parents who were taking advantage of the school’s recommendations and reduced costs by sending their daughters to Johnsburg.
