A young Private Investigator, Rishaan Kel has an encounter with a beautiful woman who disappears in front of his eyes. His search for her leads him into the dark and treacherous war between the Guardians and the Watchers, humans blessed with supernatural abilities to maintain balance and harmony in the world. He now has to use his deductive reasoning, on-the-fly thinking and his own newfound superpowers to protect the world from the forces of evil.
The story is about a Private detective, who is hardly getting any cases and working as a musician and suddenly some event changed his life forever. He suddenly met a very beautiful girl and who suddenly disappears. And the the story is about solving the mystery. The readers can feel the thrill from the very beginning. Although the book is a little bit long but the narration is so engaging that the readers could read the book in one go. The story is really engaging. The strong characterization is another plus point of the book! With every changing plot the readers could feel more thrill! The language is simple yet lucid. The cover is really awesome, creative and perfect colour combination. If you love mystery and thriller then you would love this book for sure! Overall, a must read book!
The cover is omnious and clearly depicts the impending doom that the book portrays. The title doesn't seem right for it atleast not until you finish the book. The language is lucid and easy to understand & follow. The book is fast paced and keeps you hooked right from the start. The book is about a private investigator falling head first for a girl. But when she disappears suddenly he goes looking for her across the world. It is amazing and would gladly suggest the book for all.
The book superbly talks about rishaan Kel who is a sagacious private investigator and is in a relentless search of cases. One day when he was passing by a temple,he encountered a beautiful female in salwar kameez and at that particular moment entire world stopped for him.
To him she was the girl of his dreams... but really?
Untill a story doesn't contain something thought provoking it is not worth reading.
But this book ticks this box and has everything like fantasy, war and super amazing tricks......though intensity of the imagination is bit vague to believe but still realistic enough to keep you hooked till the ending.
I really liked the plot and storyline because these bookish attributes are explained immaculately in this book. The fast pace of the story is something which will not let you leave till the end.
Character portrayal is also something I would like to admire because in books like these if characters aren't described well then beauty of the story may get killed. But cheers author who handled everything in a good way.
The cover of the book is so amazing. I just loved it to another level. It creates an element of suspense within ourselves.
The story is about a young private investigator, Rishaan. He encounters a beautiful woman and she disappears. He goes on to find her and he get into many cases then. When he had seen her first, he got just a pin from her. This only leads him to many cases. Due to the pin, he solves many cases too.
Due to this pin, he goes into another world of war.
The title is so amazing and really apt for the story. It is such an amazing suspense story it will surely take you to another world which you will love.
The plot created by the author is amazing. The characterization too was really to the point and amazingly created. Anybody who is in reading should go for this book. You will surely love it..
I am the author of this book. In my entirely biased opinion, this book deserves a 5 star, I would have given more stars if it were possible. But don't take my word for it. Read it, even if it's just to spite me.
Book name - Samsaara: Devadoot Author - Alkesh Nair Ratings - 4.7⭐ Few books are so well written and have something challenging in Plot leads to make the Book Successful. "Samsaara: Devadoot" by Alkesh Nair is the perfect example of it. Before saying anything about the Book, first of all, Kudos to the author for writing such Interesting Book. Overall it was a perfect read. Those who love reading Mytho fiction, they should surely go for this. Its a Worth Reading.
This is a book that I could not classify as an urban fantasy but it is one with a tinge of magical realism to it. The cover is absolutely gorgeous but I personally think the subtitle font could have been a times new Roman or something similar. The book is really lengthy but since I enjoy the genre I flipped through the pages quickly. The pace was moderate. The way the book starts and the way the author has continued to give intricate details just makes you want this to be a duology or a trilogy if not a series. Every turn of the page for me was a different turn as I would change my favorite chapter but now I clearly say my favorite one is the epilogue. The characters were diverse and well developed. The protagonist Rishaan was relatable. I found the fact that he was an occasional musician was really fascinating. The setting in which the girls would dissapear is just stunning. I am glad I picked the book up.
Review: The book revolves around our protagonist Roshan who is a private investigator. The plot revolves around a girl who disappears in front of our protagonist and his search for her leads him to unfathomable circumstances which question his faith. I absolutely loved this one the style of writing is engaging though the plot drops in some places but don’t give up on it. The ending was good😍 Characterisation was on pointe. This book made the mumbaikar in me to purr in delight. Check this one out guys you won’t be disappointed 3.5/5
If you are a Mythology and fiction lover go for it. You will not be disappointed.
This book is a perfect combination of mythology, fiction and tradition.
So come to story this book revolves around Rishaan Kel ,who is a Private detective by profession and later become a human with super natural powers.
His journey starts when he meet with a beautiful women who disappears infront of his eyes.
So he start his quest to find her and end up in a war between guardians and watchers and human blessed with super natural abilities to maintain balance and harmony in the world. Now he is part of this war because he found his supernatural powers and he have to use his newfound powers and knowledge to save the world from evil.
So know questions are- - who is she(the beautiful women)? - meeting with her is a coincidence or a pre plan? - how he get his powers?
And many more questions and answers you will find in this book.
I applaud to author because of his unbelievable imagination and for his narration and writting because of them you will enagaed in the book
Rishaan Kel is the protagonist and we see him falling for a girl in love at first sight. No matter how beautiful love stories are written but they always leave an impact which is remarkable and so is this man who is a private investigator. The girl for whom Kel fell in love with vanished in front of his eyes only. Later we see the change in plot how Kel changed his professional life from an investigator. The story line and the genre of mythological with a glimpse of thrilling genre combination is upto the mark. Though I would feel that there is the exaggeration of chapters as at once 40 chapters would be a difficult thing to read, Whereas on the other hand the positive side is that it is not at all boring. Every character and the background is described well !!
Samsaara Devdoot is a story of a private detactive who is now left with no more cases to solve. But suddenly one day, one incident changed his life forever.
He met a woman and was madly in love with her. Her sudden dissaparance raised so many questions in his mind. The detective within him was once again in action. In the course of finding her, he solved many cases and mystery was unravelled.
Will he able to solve the case? What's the mystery?
Read further to know more. The plot of the story is fresh and interesting. The characters, the story line around them will surely grab the readers. The coverpage and title is well designed. The pace of book is good. The language used is simple and lucid. Overall a good read!
Samsaara: Devadoot is a story about a private detective who is working as a musician in a restaurant for income as he hardly had few cases like theft, etc to solve. The story starts with the male protagonist Rishaan Kel falling in love at first sight with a beautuful girl who disappears all of a sudden leaving behind a pin which leads the detective into enormous cases and on solving them eventually do good to the mankind. Following the pin, he solves quite a few cases and to the end understands the special power he has got with it.
- The cover is simple yet attractive. - The essence of the title can be understood only after reading the complete story. - Though it is a lengthy read, nowhere it is boring. - The language is simple and easy to understand with occassional complex words mainly during the introduction of these special powers. - The characters are fantastic. Each and every one has an important role to protray which made the story more appealing. Out of all I liked Paviraa and Omar. - The story is good paced as the flow is accurate and there is no chance of confusion at any point of time. - Good narration and explanation of each and every situation which would help a reader in visualization. - The book would be a good movie if taken. the story has everything starting from suspense, supernatural forces to action which I feel is a very good blend to watch on the big screen. - By the end, itseams there might be a sequel.
I felt like watching a movie in which superheroes like spiderman with the help of other avengers fighting the evil for the good of the man kind.
Overall, a very interesting read and I would recommend it all the fantasy lovers with a tinge of mystery in it.
The book starts off at a really cliche seen. The protagonist goes to the temple, sees a beautiful girl, falls in love with her, tries to follow her and at this point she disappears leaving behind something that looks like a hairpin. So, our lover boy picks up the pin as a token and takes it with him. This is where all the cliche ends and we enter into the fantasy part of the book. We (Readers as well as the Protagonist) find out that the pin is no ordinary hairpin. The pin seems to have some supernatural powers which marks the beginning of the whole adventure. The plot, in general, was quite fun to read. It was developed smoothly without any abruptness, filled with action, adventure and a little bit of romance. The writing style was good. The narrative was well written as well. There were poems included in the narrative, too, which to be honest, I did not enjoy. The narrative is written in the voice of Rishaan who actually turns out to be as smart as he is initially described. Apart from that he has a what I would like to express as "my kind of humor" i.e. his sense of humor matched with my own. And not just that, his entire character felt in sync with me. He was surprised when he was supposed but still didn't loose any sleep over it. All in all, I really found him relatable. Overall, it was a great read.
Author- Alkesh Nair Genre- Supernatural/ Fantasy Rating- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
This book is one that keeps you in awe with the level of imagination of the author, it is addictive and gripping start to end. This is a power packed combination of multiple genre- supernatural, adventure, mythology, romance, thriller, suspense, etc. you name it and it is available in this.
The story starts with Rishaan Kel, a private detective bu profession, when he meets this amazing, beautiful but mystical lady who drops a gold pin and just disappears, but this is no ordinary pin, it is a power source that opens a pandora box of adventures for our hero.
The characters are all diverse and amazingly engaging. The multiple world building are complex, well designed and completely mesmerizing.
I totally enjoyed this book and would eagerly wait for the next book. I especially like the witty comments by Rishaan and Omar.
There is a hint of sweetness in his and his mother’s relationship which is endearing.

The story revolves around , Rishaan Kel , a private investigator. Rishsan's world is shaken up and down when he witnesses a beautiful girl disappear in front of his eyes. He is unable to believe how can someone disappear into thin air just like that. The turn of events that unfolds after the incident are exciting. How Rishaan discovers the supernatural activities in the human world. It's a supernatural rollercoaster of events. This book has a beautiful and enchanting cover design with an exciting storyline. Story is very well written and narration is intriguing. Overall I would say it's a worthy read. Characterization is done very well. Certain events are described in an exciting manner which makes you continue reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. A good book.
Devadoot #1 of Samsaara series by author Alkesh Nair is an interesting and amazing read.
Protagonist Rishaan though a private detective is doing odd jobs/living sedentry life style waiting for a break/good case but due to fates play/stroke of luck finds a pin and gets dragged into war between Gaurdians and Watchers unknowingly. As this is the first book of the series it's more of introduction. So what is special about the pin, power it holds, how does our hero find out, who are guardians, who are watchers, what are each trying to achieve, what is the reason for fight, their strength etc. answers to before and more by grabbing a copy for yourself. Plot becomes complex, mysterious, thrilling etc as pages turned and involves a lot of fantasy like teleport to different places, travel to different dimensions, multiverse, cosmos/ space, mystical powerd objects, supernatural humans/species, deadies etc. There are lot of interesting characters, author's narration and description is too detailed, characterisation is fantastic and language is not too difficult. Though climax is satisfying still leaves a lot of unanswered questions in readers mind. Only demerit I see is book is a long read.
Loved reading the book, would definitely look forward for the subsequent books of the series and would recommend to all fantasy fiction readers.
Thanks to @mysecretbookshelf for the opportunity to review this book
The book is divided into 39 long chapters. Though it is a lenghty read but I enjoyed this book. It is very interesting and engaging. The reader will not fell bore at any point of this book. It is a story of a private detective Rishaan Kel who is also a part time musician working in a restaurant. The life of Rishaan was going well but entry of a girl in his life gave a twist in his life. He fallen for a girl in first sight but the girl suddenly disappeared. He searched for the girl everywhere. The girl left a pin behind by the help of the pin Rishaan solved many cases. Will he finds the mysterious girl?? The book is full of mystery and thrills. Even many questions arises while reading and all this can be answered after reading further. The story was like watching a movie. The author had very well explained and potraited all the characters very nicely. I loved the character Omar in the whole story. The story is totally imaginary and at many points it feeled real. The book is totally a page turner and the narration will surely make the reader hook up with the book till last page. I completed this whole book in three sittings. The genes of the book is mystery and fiction. The cover page is beautiful and the name is apt according to the story. I loved the book a lot. Highly recommended 😎

𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘: The book tells an imaginative tale portraying some strong and interesting characters. The elements in the story are engrossing and absorbing. The character of Rishaan reminded me of Feluda. I like that he goes out of his way to help people. His quick thinking and wits are applause worthy. I also liked Omar's character. The author has taken an ancient tale of good vs evil and spun his own story. It felt like an original story, even though the premise wasn't, if you catch my drift. The magical realism was beautifully portrayed in the story. The narration is smooth and nowhere did it get boring or dragging. There is also the fact that there were bits and pieces in the book that didn't need to be described or not that relevant to story but they served to intensify the readers' attention to the main plot. I can't wait for the next book. The cover of the book is very beautiful. I enjoyed reading the book. And I would definitely recommend it for all fantasy readers.
Mumbai city. The city that never sleeps, The city where everyone wants to be unique. The city which steals various names and individuality. The city in which our plot lies.
The book in frame is Samsaara (book 1: Devadoot) by Alkesh Nair. Book 1 simply implies that you'll have to wait for the next part (which totally depends on author's mood). And I am in the que already to catch hold of the next one.
Rishaan Kel which I am sure isn't a familiar name, lives with his mother in a luxurious house (from the perspective of Mumbai's blueprint). He is part time musician and full time detective but the loss of fund makes him live otherwise. Mind you he's a private detective.
This fable starts with a mysterious hair pin with some ancient inscriptions and further leads to a totally new world. The book starts with an encounter between Rishaan and a beautiful girl. He just couldn't take off his eyes from her face. After reading this I was really worried because I thought of it as another cliche romantic story. But definitely it turned otherwise.
I finished this book in two sitting and that made me realize that I have no patience when it comes to such amazing stories. The book is very descriptive and beautifully penned. Insights from author really helps in understanding the plot. I really enjoyed reading this.

Thia story is not just a story but this can be inspiration to people who are in beginning stage of their career. Don't feel shy to do small works for your basic needs. This is better than depending on others or doing mistakes for money.
The story is about Rishaan Kel,a private investigator living in Mumbai with his mother. His life was going smoothly investigating few cases untill one day he saw a beautiful girl near an old temple and it was love at first sight for him. The girl had dropped her hair pin unknowingly but when Rishaan picked it up to give back to her, she was nowhere to be seen. Since then, he found different magical properties of that pin and got out from some difficult life situations and also helped others using the pin and his brilliant deduction ability. But little did he know that there were mich more at stake and he would find himself in much serious and unimaginable situations. . Who is that girl? What magical properties does the pin have? The story is engaging from the beginning and it doesn't loose its grip on readers till end. The narration is crisp and well written. The characters are well built and nicely introduced. The author has used his imaginative powers well by introducing various futuristic machines and technologies. The cover and the title is also appropriate. The language is easy and briefly described. . Book name - Samsaara: Devadoot Author - Alkesh Nair
THIS IS AN TREMENDOUS BOOK WHICH REMINDED ME OF THE ANCIENTS TALES.
THE AUTHOR HAS AN TREMENDOUS QUALITY OF PORTARTING THE CHARACTERS. THE STORY STARTS With The Main Protagonist RISHAAN KEL WHO WAS ATTARACTED BY A GIRL BEAUTY. THE TURN COMES HERE WHEN SHE IS DISAPPEARED. THE JOURNEY BEGINS OF RISHAAN TO SEARCH AND FACES MANY PROBLEM IN THE PATH. THIS JOURNEY ALSO HELPED HIM TO TURN FROM MUSICIAN TO DETECTIVE.
WILL HE ABLE TO FIND THE TRUE LOVE ?
READ OUT THE STORY TO FIND OUT
SPECS:: THE PLOTTING OF THE BOOK IS DONE WELL I LIKE THE THE WAY AUTHOR NARRATED THE STORY.
THERE IS NO GRAMMATICAL ERROR.
I ALSO LIKE THE THOUGHT OF THE AUTHOR WHO SOUGHT TO DO THIS TYPE OF MASTERPIECE.
If you love supernatural powers then this book is for you. A detective leading a life of a musician suddenly finds himself involved in a case which is both thrilling and dangerous. The atmosphere of suspense created by the author around the girl will make the reader turn the page to know more about the story. The characterization is so good that readers can visualise while reading the story and this combined with the lucid narration will keep the readers engaged till the end. The story is so well crafted that the reader will find it difficult to escape from the mysterious plot of the book. Once you start reading you would want to finish the story in one sitting because of the fast pace. The cover good too considering the storyline. The imagination of the author and his writing skills together created a story that will appeal to all the mystery lovers.
Fantasy is my favourite genre. But I noticed there are far less number of good fantasy books by Indian authors than Western , and most of them are related to religious books or epics. After Incredia by Saarang Mahajan , Samsaara is the second fantasy books I've read which has no connection with Ramayana or Mahabharata. The cover page looks brilliant and eye catching. The story is equally gripping , and it succeed to catch my interest in every chapter. It has a nice easy flow of language, which gave me the feeling that the protagonist is just like us , a normal person, but he got the chance to be extraordinary. The book has a Bollywood story vibe but it's enjoyable. I really liked the hilarious and witty sides of the characters. The element of romance could have been better. Most interesting point is , the author set the realm of fantasy in the real world , and managed to maintain the balance throughout the book. There were also poems and riddles in between chapters which were interesting. Overall it was a really enjoyable read, I'm looking forward to read book 2 to know what happens next.
Mumbai the city that never sleeps, the city which is glamorous on one end and traditional on the other; such a city narrates the tale of hidden identities.
Rishaan Kel a soothing player with words, a part-time musician and an amaeture detective is the protagonist of the story. I call him amaeture not because he is still in search of high paid cases, as for skills he can crack any case fluently. One day when he was crossing a century old temple in Matunga Rehaan notices a beautiful girl in flowing salwar kameez. Rehaan feels the world stops the moment he sees the girl. But the girl suddenly disappears out of thin air dropping a tiny golden object. Rehaan picks the object to return to the unknown girl with which begins his journey to mysteries..
What is the object?
Will Rehaan meet the mysterious girl?
What is a Chandrahas?
A mysterious journey into the world of fantasy, a journey I loved after a very long time. Loved the way the author scripted the tale and the characters in the tale. I still find the title intriguing.
“Beyond the veils on poverty , pollution, and corruption, I can see the raw, real and naked Mumbai.” When the story begins the author gives the tint of how he has known Mumbai to be and how it has turned out. He is not disappointed, then he sees her, the girl he falls for, her beauty. The writer very carefully gives every detail without revealing too much. The protagonist in the story is an detective and he chooses this profession because of his father. Eventfully the girl is lost somewhere, dropping something the protagonist called as family here loom. The detective takes the case in his own hand. His mother is the intrigued one, who provides the detective with free cases. He takes up one case and then ponders about the girl, but will he ever find her? The protagonist is Rishaan Kel and he is a private investigator, there comes a time in the book when he has apparently fallen for the beautiful maiden. But being the twist in the story, the beautiful maiden is disappeared and he being unaware of her where about. Now, the protagonist makes himself in charge of finding the girl. Now when the search begins, he encounters some vivid but voracious creature. They are the guardian and the watchers. Without him even trying he is infused in the war, between the guardian and the watchers. They are the humans who are blessed with supernatural abilities to maintain balance and harmony in the world. When he is caught in the middle of the fight, he brings out his deductive reasoning and his own newfound superpowers to protect the world from the forces of evil. The book is an imaginative tale between some strong and interesting characters. The most intrigued part about these book reviews are the names of the characters, they are different yet good to hear. The protagonist has a very helpful character, which does all in his power to help others, respectful of his mother, and smart. All his thinking and witty nature is worth standing ovation in the story. The story is about good presiding over evil and he has made it his own story, it does not read like same old-same old stories. All the magic that might have been there in the book have been written very “magically”. The narrator does not make it boring for the reader, its smooth and steady. There were indeed few parts which not very apt but they served their purpose very well. The attention of the reader stays fully intact all through the book. I would recommend this book to every reader who is a fan of high fantasy drama. The book also is a delight for the naked eye. HAPPY READING!
