About the Author

G. Sauvé had an unusual childhood. He grew up in a straw bale house. He was homeschooled. And he didn’t have a TV until he was a teenager. No wonder he fell in love with the written word at such a young age. He wrote his first book at fifteen (it sucked), and he now resides in Montréal, where he spends his days writing (much improved) novels and making bad puns.

A fun YA adventure full of time travel, dinosaurs, grumpy Atlanteans, erupting volcanoes and dragons.
The main character is a bit of an unreliable narrator and quite selfish, but that's the whole point. In order to survive, he has to get on with the people he's dragged through time with.

There were parts of this book that were laugh-out-loud funny, and I genuinely stayed up late into the night a few times in a row reading this.

What Made Me Read It I was sent a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. The author described it as a "YA time travel fantasy novel"; the blurb sounded intriguing: a time travel adventure set in prehistoric times with dinosaurs and shape-shifting abilities so I decided to give it a try.

The Plot Will Save has been an orphan all his life and stopped hoping for his parents to return for him. But when he's given a package on his 15th birthday containing a strange looking ring and a letter from his mother, Will doesn't hesitate to follow the written instructions so he can be reunited with his family again.

Avalon has made a mistake and in order to correct it she needs to alter the past to change the future, no matter what the cost. Kara and Jonn have been tasked by the Atlantean Council to capture Avalon before she can reshape the timeline, unrelentingly chasing her through time and space.

Will is on his way to meet his parents when he's caught in the middle of a shootout. Accidentally getting in the way and choosing the wrong side, Will finds himself transported back through time to the Mesozoic Era. Will just wants to get back to his own time, but first he must join forces with Kara and Jonn to find Avalon and recover the ring she stole, the only thing that will help him return home. Easier said than done when he must also avoid being eaten by the prehistorical beasts that roam the dangerous landscape, learn to control the mysterious shape-shifting ability he now seems to possess and save the local Korrigans and Arkanes from dying of a deadly plague.

The Good "The Nibiru Effect" is a young adult science fiction novel, with time travel and fantasy elements, plenty of action sequences and full of witty humor. The first book in the "Will Save" series and told in the first person through the eyes of the main character, it follows the adventures of 15-year-old Will Save, an orphan who is unwillingly thrown back in time to the Mesozoic Age after a chance encounter with a group of time travel quarreling Atlanteans. Trapped in the Jurassic world, Will must face dinosaurs, giant insects, dragons and even an unexpected shape-shifting ability, while trying to find a way back to his own time.

The story is fast-paced and packed with thrilling action sequences and a few plot twists. Will is a magnet for trouble, getting himself in constant danger and barely getting out of it alive in his long journey to capture Avalon and recover his stolen ring. The mysteries surrounding each of the characters are slowly unraveled throughout the plot, though a few remain for the next installments, keeping us engaged. The worldbuilding is complex with vivid descriptions of the Atlantean city and technology, the Jurassic world and the indigenous color-shifting humanoid races - the Korrigans and the Arkanes.

The characters are 3-dimensional and complex, with realistic personalities, believable actions and good character development: from Will, a typical teenager at times cocky and arrogant but mostly insecure and clumsy; to Jonn, a seasoned soldier with emotions and motivations that run deep; Kara, mature for her age and with great empathy for those around her; the Korrigan Korri, who excels at running away from trouble and yet is curious enough to explore the world... there is more to each character than meets the eye and, as the story progresses, each one faces their own fears and weaknesses, learning to rely on one another in order to survive in the unforgiving environment. There's only a hint of a romantic interest between the two teenagers and it's developed in a natural way, which is a welcome change from the usual instalove plot device in young adult novels.

Final Rating 4 of 5 stars. "The Nibiru Effect" is the first book in the "Will Save" series, an action-packed young adult science fiction novel, with plenty of witty humor and an engaging mystery, set in the Jurassic Era. Recommended for those who enjoy time travel stories in a setting filled with dinosaurs and other prehistorical beasts.

I absolutely loved this book, I am a fan of fantasy novels and this is one of the best books I have read in the last few years. The book is so action-packed, I was intrigued from the beginning and I could not put the book down until the very last page. The story is so well-written, captivating and easy to read. I really appreciated the few touches of humor throughout the entire book. Will Save is not the typical hero, he is relatable and lovable, it is fascinating to follow him on his many adventures. The universe created in the book is unique and filled with endearing creatures and characters. I would recommend this book to everyone who loves fantasy and time travel novels. I have already purchased the second book and I can wait to read it!

This book was written in the style of adventure novels that have apparently disappear. It also has a sort of Harry Potter twist to it too. All very good as far as I was concerned. Although it took me a while to read it from cover to cover it really was a fast paced book, I just had other things I had to do so sorry dear author. You have gun fights, magic, time travel, mystery, suspense wow, so much was packed it this book. And when you get to the last page, BANG! It's a cliff hanger ending. Since I'm not a spoiler get this book and enjoy it too. Loved it.

Its a fun adventure. An adventure that does take a while to get into. i would say the beginning parts its a C and the final few chapters when everything is revealed its an A. So a 4/5 is reasonable. Will is a good character. had a good supporting cast in Kara and Jonn and cool Korri. It was free and had a great premise and I read it. Doubt i'll continue the series. The Hourglass plot and how it ends is enough to continue the series though not enough for me. if you like Time traveling and dinosaurs and a parents history a mystery type of books, read it maybe you'll love it more than me.

A great big yes! This book is very well written - and well edited, which is a bug-bear of mine. It’s also full of action, tension, time travel, shape-shifting and no end of vivid creatures to confuse the heroes on their travels. The characters are well-developed, and they grow as people as the adventure unfolds. It’s funny, scary – yes, I’m also afraid of heights – compelling, and great entertainment all round. A great first book and I’m looking forward to the second one!

Received from the Author

The premise is very interesting. I love the sci-fi aspect and the technology described, it's very imaginative.

There is a lot going on, from discovering the memories to going on a mind-blowing adventure, all tying together nicely. :)

The writing is very good, the story moves along at a very quick pace. You can almost feel like you are there. There are no dull parts, just non stop happenings...

However, I had trouble connecting to the main character, he just didn't click with me.

Awesome

I loved the book completely. It surprises you at every turn. The time travel and portals are all magical. I don't generally do sci-fi but I'm so glad I picked this one up. The last one I loved as much was a Wrinkle In Time. Kudos to the author.

Interesting theme

The author magically utilized the interesting concept of the Nibiru effect and created a wonderful. The pace of the story, however, is too slow for my personal liking.

The Nibiru Effect is a wild, time-traveling adventure featuring mind-controlled dinosaurs, lava slugs, enormous snails, and all kinds of shenanigans. Middle grade readers will probably love the antics that Will and his companions get up to during the time of the dinosaurs, but for an adult reader, this book understandably falls short.

I won’t complain too much about why this book isn’t for adults, because, well, it clearly isn’t intended for adults. It isn’t written with any advanced language, and the story is youthful and fun, something that any teenage or even preteen reader will love. Instead, I’ll judge it for the quality of its writing and storytelling.

I did have some issues with both. For one, there were inconsistencies between the wording and the intended tone. The story is written from 16-year-old Will’s perspective, but sometimes he uses phrasings and words that an ordinary 16-year-old definitely wouldn’t. The author also has a tendency to rely on a few set phrases and sentence structures which he overuses, such as “I’m tempted to ___, but ___” and “It’s only a matter of time before…”

Overall I did feel the narrative felt immature, but I guess that’s owing to the 16-year-old narrator. There was also one incidence of sexist language which made me roll my eyes hard—girls’ hips don’t “sway” when they run—, but although the romance was forced and a little cringe-y, there weren’t any other instances of sexism, thank goodness.

Story-wise, there are very obvious plot holes that left me with many questions. There were also a few outlandish things that were hard to picture, which were obviously clear in the writer’s mind, but not in the writing. Finally, there was plenty of convenient storytelling that experienced readers will pick out—like how a diversion among cliffs magically led to the same intersection in a jungle--but kids probably won’t notice any of these things, and that’s fine.

The last thing I’ll complain about is that there was nearly entirely too much internal dialogue, which, in conjunction with the repetitive sentences, made the writing really tiresome at times. Oh, and I also hated how just about every chapter ended in a cliff hanger, and the next chapter reiterated what happened in the last. Really, each chapter felt more like an episode of a kids’ cartoon than parts of a book, but to be honest, this would make a pretty cool cartoon—the degree of creativity really lends itself to TV.

As I’ve said, this book is clearly not intended for adults; I think it’s best for teens and preteens (it would be equally entertaining for even younger readers but I think level-wise it might be a bit advanced). I was thoroughly impressed by the wild imagination this author must have in order to come up with all of the crazy obstacles Will and his friends had to overcome, and, despite its various shortcomings, it was still an interesting and entertaining story.

No doubt this book, with its dinosaur chases and jungle journey, would be popular among the kids if it became well-known enough. I just wouldn’t recommend that those kids read it again when they grow up.
