DC Renee is a contemporary romance fiction author who tends to write stand alone novels that always shock you with a twist. She's been writing all her life. It started with adorable rhyming poems as a kid for anniversary and birthday presents, moved onto monologues and short stories as a teen, then transitioned to fan fictions before she found the courage to publish a book.

DC lives in sunny and (mostly) warm Los Angeles with her husband and their two toddlers - a girl and boy that want to "work just like mama," often climbing in her lap and "writing" on her computer. She's very close with her entire family - extended included, and her sister is her muse.

When she's not working, writing, and spending time with the family, she loves watching mindless TV, tinkering with diy projects, and of course, reading.

We already met the adorable bad boy Benny in Let Me Go. He was Mason's best friend - he helped him in jail and once they were out.
Benny has always been chasing the next thrill - he was never happy with his boring middle class home life. So he went out and got into trouble - Gangs and other criminal stuff. And his little brother Ethan? He worshipped the ground Benny walked on. So it was just a matter of time until Ethan wanted to join a gang too. And even though Benny didn't allow it - he still did it - and it got him killed.
Ever since the moment Benny lost his brother and his parents too - because they blamed him for everything - Benny has lived with the guilt of being responsible for getting his brother killed. He believes that he didn't only destroy his brother's life - he also destroyed the life of Ethan's girlfriend: Sophie. The girl who grew up next door to them.

Sophie has hated Benny for more years than she can count.
But now he's suddenly back in her life. Because he's best friends with her new boss Mason.

Both Sophie & Benny have finally come to the point where they need to let go of the past or keep on grieving and hating forever.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH BENNY & SHOPHIE??
WILL THERE BE FORGIVENESS?
WILL THERE EVEN BE A NEW LOVE???
WILL THERE BE A CLIFFHANGER??

NOPE - I'M NOT TELLING YOU ☺

We already fell in love with Benny in the first book and he is just as adorable in his own book. The big tattooed ex-con. But such a sweet guy - especially when he's babysitting Kat & Mason's twins.

And poor Sophie, with all the hate and hurt and grief inside of her.

Those two deserve to find their happy ever after!

A few little things that I didn't like - or that bothered me a bit...
Like the previous 2 DC Renee books I've read - I don't like that it's way too anonymous. We don't know where we are - no city no state - not even a country is ever named. I want to be able to imagine myself in a city when I read a book.
And the other anonymous part - the ages. We have no idea how old everybody is - the way they talked about the past, Sophie should be over 40 already ☺
And it was a tiny bit too unsexy for me - there's nothing sexy until the 80% mark - but it was ok - I didn't miss it all that much.

All in all I really enjoyed this book - lots of feelings and emotions and this grrrrr HOT HOT HOT guy ☺

Review by Jen Hagen

Benny was 16 years old when he joined a gang…it was only a small-time gang, but a gang nonetheless. He wasn’t big into violence -- that is until he needed to avenge his brother’s death. His younger brother, Ethan, looked up to Benny in everything that Benny did, and years later Ethan followed Benny’s footsteps by joining a gang. Ethan was set up and killed while doing a gang delivery. Everybody blames Benny for Ethan’s death, and Benny doesn’t deny that he deserves the guilt. In fact, Benny would be the first one to tell you that he killed his brother. Benny carries around the guilt every day of the life that was taken because of him.

Sophie and Ethan were childhood friends and eventually turned into lovers. They had a future planned, but that future was taken away from them. Sophie blames Benny for her loss, and her resentment at what was taken from her has turned into anger. It’s pretty safe to say that Sophie doesn’t want to even breathe the same air as Benny.

This was Benny, the guy who stole her life and dreams from right under her. The guy who didn’t even bother sticking around to witness the consequences of his actions. He had killed Ethan and then disappeared…She needed to kick him in the nuts…hard…several times.

See…she hates him.

Due to mutual friends, Benny and Sophie are suddenly thrust together and must share the same air. This is extremely difficult for Sophie to handle, especially when her friends tell her about how kind and loving Benny. How can this be? This is the man that killed her future. Surely they can’t be talking about the same cold-blooded killer? Sophie begins to see Benny in a new light as he tries to bring closure to Sophie’s inability to forgive Benny for taking away what should have been a joyous time for her and Ethan.

His eyes were red and splotchy and his cheeks were wet from silent tears, and yet, he held her up, was the support that she needed even when it was obvious he needed comfort, too.

Sophie is finally able to forgive Benny and realizes that he was not at fault for Ethan’s death. She has placed so much blame on Benny that she doesn’t know how to let it go and be his friend. Through many calculated set ups by friends, Benny and Sophie come to a place neither one of them expected to be – a place of peace and contentment.

This was the Benny she had known so long ago – this was the Benny who she wished Ethan could look up to, this was the Benny her heart broke for, and this was the Benny her soul cried for.

Both Benny and Sophie have turned hard over the years so they have a lot of wall to break down between each other, but by being patient and trusting in each other, they are able to place themselves in each other’s hearts.

“I love you, Benny.”

Benny may not have a family made of blood anymore because of the blame game, but Benny has family in his friends. They understand the pain that Benny feels on a daily basis and are there to help him when he feels down. They never allow him to wallow, but help him realize that he is a different person now and has people that love him – including his two adorable twin godchildren that he loves and takes an active part in their lives. This was a beautiful quick read that was at times emotional. One thing that I enjoy about reading books in a series is the ability to see what our previous friends are doing…Mason and Kat are still madly in love with each other and have multiple scenes in Benny’s story.

And she does it again!!  Wow this author has a way of just totally consuming me for hours. I don't want to put her books down and I always want more. I wanted Benny's story since I read  Let me Go. I even begged for it in my review. I can't describe what it feels like when a side character just completely steals my heart. I think about them and want their story so badly.  Benny was the most loyal friend that I'd ever seen in the previous book. He was there for his friends and he still had this mystery going on.

Sophie was a person that had the type of past heart break that you'd think she'd never be able to open up to love again. Benny knocked down those walls and showed her that true love can't be contained into what's right ad what's wrong.   The love story grew slowly and it built to a fantastic conclusion.  We all know you can't control who you love. This was a perfect portrayal of that. I adored these characters and I learned to not always judge things by what you first hear. There is always two sides to every story.

Another winner by this fabulous author.

This is Benny’s story. Let It Go follows Benny and Sophie as they try to continue living once they are placed in each other’s lives again. Benny and Sophie have a history, it’s a history that centres around pain, hurt, regret, guilt and anger.
Benny is living his life the best way that he can, he is trying to make himself better and stay as far away from his past as he can. We find out about his brother and what happened to him and the guilt and regret that he carries around. Benny is helping Kat plan a party for Mason, when all the past comes to the surface, he bumps into little Sophie, the girl next door who is all grown up and full of hatred for him. “This time, there was no confusing what emotions were written in her eyes. It was hatred. Pure hatred and it was directed at him.
Sophie gets the shock of her life when she attends her new boss’s party, running straight into the past. Sophie has a lot of pain which we find out more of later in the book. She holds Benny responsible for the way her life has turned out, she blames him for Ethan, his death, the distance between them before he died. She blames him as Benny was the person that Ethan looked up to, he wanted his big brothers praise, approval and acceptance. Sophie takes all the pain she feels and directs it all towards Benny.
Trying to avoid each other is harder to do then they expect with Kat getting involved, she has a way about her that makes people want to do what she asks. Kat gets involved after Sophie spills her guts when she drinks too much on a girl’s night out. This is also the night Benny picks them up and finds out why Sophie holds such a huge amount of anger towards him. With the new found information Benny hates himself more, he goes into a hole. He doesn’t want to come out of it and Sophie wants her own time as well. Kat not having any of this gets involved and starts what ends up being the thing that they both needed to find closure.
Benny chooses to fight, he wants Sophie in his life and he also needs to let go of the past, he needs to let go of the guilt if he really even wants to move forward. What Benny does in this scene, for not only Sophie, but himself brought me to tears. It was such a heartfelt gesture and the reasons for him doing it, just hits you straight in the chest. You can tell throughout the whole book that Benny isn’t the person that Sophie thought he was, well not anymore. Benny loves with everything in him, Sophie sees this after his gesture. “Once you’re in his circle, you’re in for life.”
Sophie and Benny have so much that needs to be resolved, that you wonder if they can really, truly be friends, or possibly more with so much hanging over them. Will they work things out? Or is the past too much?
I loved this book, and I’m glad that we got Benny’s story. I also loved reading more about Kat and Mason. This book was a rollercoaster of emotions for me, but so worth it. Well done DC Renee on another amazing read.

“You know this all started because you didn’t let go.”

Benny had me hooked right from the start. I loved him in Book 1 and getting his whole back story here was heartbreaking I just wanted to jump in the book and cuddle him and then do crazy things to him !!

Benny was a typical kid , adored his brother and family , then he got bored and then he let loose and screwed up his life. He lost his brother to a gang related event and now as an adult he is living a great life loving his friends to a fault and also harboring some major guilt about his brothers death. Benny is hot as sin , full of tats , great looking and truly a great guy !! Benny has the greatest of friends and I totally enjoy their interactions but now he is faced with a girl from his past , his brothers girl , the one girl he may have wanted but could never have , the girl he feels guilty for destroying when they lost his brother. What will happen when they come face to face. After all these years believing certain things what will come of Benny and Sophie ??

Sophie has struggled for years to deal with all she loss when Ethan was killed. The hatred she has felt for Ethan's big brother Benny has eaten her alive. In more ways than one she has not been able to move on. On the outside she is a successful doctor , living her life looking happy and beautiful. On the inside she is a young girl trapped by her losses and inability to get over the past. Now with a new job and some great new friends Sophie may just be able to start over. That is until she sees him , after all these years. There is no denying the fact that her hate may also be breeding lust. Will Sophie be able to forgive Benny for the things she thinks he did or will he never get the chance to make it right ??

Benny and Sophie's journey is great !! Much heartache and anger but it was great reading about the ways Kat tried to force them together !! She made me laugh and I was so happy to get more about Kat and Mason. Benny has many heart to hearts in this story and I cannot say enough how great of a guy he is. He is so genuine and his feelings are so real , raw and easy to relate to. I feel the same about Sophie but of course I didn't want her hurting my Benny so at times she made me mad !! If you read Let Me Go you will know that if sparks fly it will be fan-freakin-tastic !! DC Renee writes some great steam !! I loved the end it was precious and I just want more , more Benny , more Kat & Mason even some John or Eddie !!

We all make mistakes and we all have things from our past that we wish we could change. Benny has been living with regrets and blaming himself for something he tried to avoid at all costs but that happened anyway.
We met Benny as Mason's good friend in Let Me Go. We all knew he had issues but not the extent of them. For a period in his life Benny was lost, as most young men he was selfish and didn't think much of the consequences of his actions. Ethan, Benny's younger brother, loved him and wanted to be just like him and this included joining a gang. Unfortunately for Ethan things didn't work in his favor and he got killed by the members of the gang, leaving behind a grieving girlfriend as well as a family who blamed Benny for his death.
Sophie Basi was Ethan's girlfriend and was pregnant at the time of his death. Her grieve was too much to bare and she lost their baby. She too blamed Benny for Ethan's death and started hating the man that since she was a child was her friend and confidant.
But destiny had plans for these two and years later bring them back together. Hate, blame, resentment, all come out to the surface pushing Benny and Sophie to confront their past and choose between keep living in their own misery or forgive and move forward.
This is a very emotional, heart wrenching read. Living day in and out with the weight of the world on your shoulders (in Benny's case the guilt of causing his brother's death) is a debilitating feeling. You can almost feel the pain and all the conflicting feelings Benny goes through once he reunites with Sophie, it truly broke my heart. There were times that I didn't like Sophie very much for hating Benny so much, but she didn't know the truth, and in all honesty unless you had walked on someone's shoes you don't know what that person went/has been going through.
I LOVED the family/support system Benny found for himself, these are people that he met through the years and that have been there for each other through thin and thick. I was glad to see Kat and Mason back and showing so much support for Benny.
DC did a beautiful job showing us Benny's vulnerability, not an easy task when you think of such a strong character, but the way is was written you become his number one fan and want him to succeed.
This is a incredibly beautiful tale of redemption and forgiveness, a story that show us that we can't let out past define who we'll be in the future.

****Given ARC for an honest review****

I couldn't wait to get my hands on Benny's story and DC was spot on with this story. There is just so much emotion throughout this book you can feel it rolling off the pages. What happens when finally in your life you might actually be happy for the first time in a very long time but you're worried the past will replay itself? The Past: Can you just Let It Go??

First off, to be able to understand the characters you might want to go read Let Me Go. I think you will enjoy this story more having a background on them if you do.

We get to see what made Benny the way he is and also get to meet someone from his past that has just as much hurt in them as he does. At first I didn't like Sophie at all. I know she's hurt by actions from her past and losing a loved one but she blames Benny for everything and it's a long road to change her opinion of him. She was very mean and wouldn't give him a chance and see that he changed and maybe he isn't actually to blame. Neither one really knows the whole story from what happened from each POV but eventually, it has to come out. So many parts just gutted me but it was things we needed to know and had to be done. After finding out more, I can now honestly say that I understand Sophie and her actions. Eventually events help their relationship bloom but it's still a stuggle to let go of the past for both.

I was also very exctied to see that we get to see more of Kat, Mason, their kids and the other characters we learned to love from Let Me Go. Kat is hilarious and a meddler but I feel she's the glue to this family more than anyone could imagine. They might not all be blood relatives but sometimes friends are thicker than blood when it comes to family. Great, great read and you'll be missing out if you don't go grab this.

In this book we get Benny's Story. We fell in love with Benny in Let Me Go. He has a big heart. If you are family or friend he will take care of you. Benny's past is not something that was easy. He fell in love with the control and respect he got when he joined a gang. He soon learned it was not easy to get out of that life. Ethan, Benny's younger brother, wanted to follow in his footsteps. Benny did everything in his power to prevent that but it did not work and tragedy happened. It cost Benny his family. Even in this day Benny carries that guilt. Benny meets Sophie at one of Kat's parties. It is a face from his past, a childhood friend. Sophie wants nothing to do with Benny because it only brings back the painful memories.

"This was Benny, the guy who stole her life and dreams from right under her. The guy who didn’t even bother sticking around to witness the consequences of his actions. He had killed Ethan and then disappeared…She needed to kick him in the nuts…hard…several times."

This story is about Benny and Sophie coming to terms with the pain that they have held inside for so long. They need to learn to take the hate and pain they have and let it go. You will cry, laugh, and learn to forgive right along side Benny and Sophie. The feeling that this story will bring out will make your heart hurt and then feel good. DC Renee has a knack of making you feel for every character she writes about.

I love that you see so much of Mason and Kat in this story too. It seems like you are part of the family. Benny has a heart of gold and you will see that throughout this entire story. You only want a HEA for him. Will he find that with Sophie? Pick up this book to find out. You won't be disappointed.

DC Renee has become a must read author for me. She writes a story that always make you feel and has that OMG angst moment.

Benny's story is one that will tug at your hear and soul. The mistakes he made while trying to figure out who he was as a young man had major consequences, consequences that made him the man he is today. A man that is filled with sorrow and sadness. A man that wants so desperately to change who he was. A man haunted.
Sophia knew Benny before he took a turn for the worse. His choices affected her life. Those choices turned what was once admiration to anger and hate.
While Benny has changed from the man he was, he still struggles. He has found a kind of peace with his new family and has been moving forward. When he sees Sophia again all of the past comes crashing down on him. The girl he knew. The girl that belonged to his brother. The girl he longed for hated him.
Sophia never expected to see Benny again, much less have feelings that were more than hate for the man that change her life.
This story is all about choices and how they affect not only your outcome but the people closest to you. The decisions you make, weather bad or good have ripple affects. This is also a story about growth and acceptance. A romance that come from pain of the past. A love that grows from a sorrow shared. I cried, OH Man did I cry! I mean here you have this big tough guys with tats and a rep that is brought down by a girl from his past. You feel his heart break. You feel his pain in the pit of your stomach and soul. Most of all you feel the type of character flows through him. He is the best of the best and you root and fight for him to find the peace and happiness Benny deserves.
Letting go never had more meaning than in this book. D.C Renee is simply amazing!

Loved Benny's story!!! On Let Me Go we met Benny, he is Mason's best friend. I won't tell you how they met, but to know more about Benny I would suggest to read book one plus you will understand a bit better what happened with Kat and Mason, they play a big part on Benny's story.
I loved their friendships and how Benny was so loving of Mason's family. We already knew Benny was a big softie, like a teddy bear because you really saw his other side on Let Me Go but on his story you get to know his past which was a troubled one and it explains the things he did and why he ended up in jail. His love for his brother and even Sophie is very strong and you can really feel it throughout the story. There is some very romantic parts but mostly what you will feel is love, family love. I also loved how Benny was not afraid to show his feelings.
I'm very happy that Mason and Kat were a very big part of this story because they have been my favorite couple since I read Let Me Go and you also get to see that they are still very much in love and their HEA is still happening. I also liked that Kat became Sophie's best friend.
Well written love story with a HEA ending, a very nice one too with a bonus.
My only recommendation is to read Let Me Go first to understand more of Benny's story.

I was sent this book by the author an exchange for an honest review.

The cover is what really drew me in to this book. It’s different, interesting and I had to know the synopsis. Let It Go is about a guy named Benny who’s had a really troubled past full of gangs and drugs. But he’s trying to put his past behind him and start a better life.

I was so surprised by how much I really liked this book! I wasn’t sure what to expect but after the first two chapters, I was hooked. The characters had quite a bit of depth and were really likable, I thought. Benny really surprised me by how complex and interesting he was.

The plot was interesting and fun. I didn’t find it to be predictable or boring. I had a hard time putting this book down because I was just so curious to see what would happen next.

I did wish it was a little longer though. I know it’s novella but I wish it was a full length book. At times it felt like Benny and Sophie’s relationship was moving a little fast. I wanted a little bit more time for it to grow and develop.

Overall, this was a really fun story. I really wish it was full length because I was so into it at times. If you’re looking for a quick read that’s a refreshing take on New Adult (I think this is NA, I’m not 100% sure), I recommend checking this book out.

Ah Benny…bad, twisted Benny who was Mason’s friend from inside of prison and outside of prison in Let Me Go. Just when he thinks he may have found some happiness within his haunted life, he starts to think his past may come back to wreck what happiness he has.

This one was a very emotional read and you could feel the emotions rolling off Benny in waves. I wanted to take his head in my hands and promise him everything would be ok. I’m sure you will feel the same way.

I also loved how much of a part Mason and Kat played in this book, it was like the family was back together!

A fantastic quick read with one of my favourite characters from the first book in the Series.

Sometimes you pick up a book thinking you know exactly what you're going to get. Then you get a very pleasant surprise. This book was one of those. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down.

Benny as a character was quite refreshing to read about. Yes, the world perceived him as a bad boy and he was up to a point. But he was a man with a conscience and he really did care about the people around him even if he did get into trouble every so often.

Sophie knows a different Benny and when they are thrust together, she wants to be anywhere but where he is. The past dictates a lot for these two and the question becomes, can they really ever get over them.

This is a solid read and comes easy to recommend.

I couldn't wait to read Benny's story! I loved him in Let Me Go and was excited to learn more about him! Benny is the haunted man that every man wants to be and every woman wants in her bed. But something from his past has been stalking him for years and he can't move past it. When a woman from his past brings more bad memories and guilt, Benny isn't sure he can take more. She seems to be the key to forgiveness but will she let?
SUCH a great story!! The emotion between the two of them is so raw from their past that it leaps off the screen and into your heart! They are both hurting for the same reason but don't want to use each other to get over it. A must read!!

I received this for an honest review... I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. The only thing about this book that I wish is that it were a bit longer. This is book 1.5 in the series and I think it is important that you read the first one in the series before reading this one. Although they are about different people you get a taste of Benny in the first book and the characters from the first book are in this one as well.

After reading the first book I could not wait to get my hands on this book and bennys story.. This story is absolutely wonderful and a very good read. I cant wait to see what comes next my hope is that it is Benny!!! LOVE

After reading Let Me Go #1, I had fallen in love with the character of Benny. I wanted to know more about this character with a heart of gold. And I was so happy that the author decided to write a novella on him. And even though it had his back story, you also get additional info on the original characters in book 1 (Kat and Mason). This book is well written and paced perfectly. Loved it! A must read after book 1!

Family ties are never broken, not even after death. Benny carries the guilt of his choices and the consequences his decisions had as it influenced his younger brother to make a mistake that ended his life. Disowned by his blood family after the tragic death of his younger brother, Benny has worked hard to earn himself the love of a family of his choosing, men that are like brothers to him surrounding himself with people he trusts and would walk to the ends of the earth for. Benny struggles with the burden of his past mistakes every day of his life but has reached a level of balance as he focuses on being the better man and helping his friends. That is until a familiar face reappears in his life.

Sophie grew up with Ethan and they became childhhood sweethearts, both admiring Benny for his unstoppable swagger and confidence but Ethans death leaves Sophie shattered and bitter. As their paths recross, there are things that need to be put to rest once and for all between them. Sophie's story is heartbreaking as she has taken her grief and loss and used it to motivate herself to become successful and make a difference to others. Burying her pain, anger and grief in her career the Pandora's box is opened when Benny returns to her life.

This is a story of grief, acceptance and love. Mason and Kat, from the first in the series, are featured heavily with their twins providing a guiding hand to help Benny see through his emotions. John and Chain are always part of Bennys journey to redemption and their love is evident throughout. This is a beautifully crafted story of love. Love for his brother Ethan, love for his family and love for a sassy head strong Doctor that completes his missing piece. Their story unfolds and the past is determined not to be forgotten...

Great read

I really enjoyed both these books, they had me crying and laughing. And knowing the difference between bad men and troubled men. I really wanted to read the enough books but there out of print.
