I came here expecting enemies-to-lovers. Instead, I got cringe-to-DNF. Wattpad, I owe you a restraining order..
If I wanted to endure forced angst and zero chemistry, I’d just revisit my high school group chat, where the drama was about as genuine as a wet paper towel..
This book is proof that sometimes, things should stay in Wattpad drafts.
This book is basically the Dollar Store version of every bad-boy-falls-for-innocent-girl fanfic you’ve ever read at 2AM in 2014 ,random angst, and dialogue written by someone who has never spoken to another human being.—and somehow, it managed to get published and slapped onto a movie screen. Miracles? No. Tragedies? Absolutely. They actually adapted this into a film… The adaptation is just… whew. Watching it felt like scrolling through TikTok fan edits made by someone who only read the blurb. Watching the movie felt like attending a middle school play where everyone forgot their lines but decided to improvise using TikTok slang. The acting? Painfully awkward. The script? A Wattpad Mad Libs. The cinematography? Netflix high school rom-com reject vibes.Imagine taking this wattpad fic, slapping a filter on it, and calling it cinema. Somewhere, Shakespeare just threw up in his grave. Meanwhile, genuinely brilliant books are begging for adaptations, and THIS is what makes it to the big screen? Jane Austen is rolling in her grave, clutching her pearls, and drafting a lawsuit as we speak. Watching that trailer was like re-living my 14-year-old self’s worst fanfic drafts. Except now it’s on a screen. With actors. Paid actors. Lord, why? Somewhere out there, brilliant YA authors are crying into their unpublished manuscripts while Tubi is greenlighting The QB Bad Boy and Me. Justice for taste. Plot twist: the real bad boy was me, for finishing this.
Let’s be clear: this isn’t a love story. This is a car crash of clichés wearing a varsity jacket. We’ve got:
-“Good girl meets bad boy QB” — except, spoiler alert: the “bad” in bad boy isn’t rebellious, dangerous, or even sexy. It’s just… bad writing.
Drayton Lahey – the “bad boy quarterback.” Except he’s not bad- Badly written, badly developed, bad period. he’s just… mildly irritating. Like the human equivalent of a Snapchat streak. He’s all swagger, no substance. You could replace him with a gym bag and the story would stay the same-The “bad boy QB” who has all the depth of a puddle in Arizona.has the emotional depth of a shoebox. He broods, he smirks, he plays football. Groundbreaking. Drayton isn’t a love interest. He’s a walking hormone with the comedic timing of a 14-year-old boy who just discovered innuendos. Every line? A bad sex joke. Bonus - He is not even 18 🙏🏻 shhhhhh!
Dallas Bryan -The “not like other girls”wattpad Y/N dance-obsessed FMC whose entire personality is… dancing. And sighing. And occasionally glaring at him until she inevitably caves in. She’s “different” because… she listens to music and doesn’t fall for his charm until she does in chapter three. Wow. A feminist icon. Which basically translates to: has a dream for two chapters, then forgets it the second Mr. Varsity smiles at her. Headstrong? Babe, you folded faster than a lawn chair.
-Dialogue so wooden it could qualify as IKEA furniture.It’s basically: “You’re a jerk.” “But I’m hot.” “Okay, let’s kiss.” Peak literature.
Nothing screams romance like a cardboard cutout jock with daddy issues and a heroine who’s written like a Wattpad Y/N“insert yourself here” template.
And don’t even get me STARTED on the romance. Calling it chemistry is an insult to actual chemical reactions. I’ve seen lab beakers fizz harder than these two. Wattpad truly said: “Hot boy. Nice girl. Angsty misunderstandings. Copy. Paste. Profit.”
He hits her car. She hates him.
He shows up at her house. She still hates him.
They breathe the same air twice and suddenly it’s “oh no, he’s under my skin, my heart is on fire, my soul is melting.”
I want to personally interview these characters just to say, “NEXT. ONE. Next one, please!” before they even open their mouths.
This isn’t enemies-to-lovers. This isn’t slow burn. This is insta-lust with extra cheese. Their relationship has all the chemistry of two soggy Pop-Tarts in a toaster. I’ve seen more believable tension between two IKEA chairs in the returns aisle. He smolders, she sighs, they argue about nothing, and suddenly we’re supposed to believe this is love? Wattpad math doesn’t add up, babe. This wasn’t enemies to lovers. This was common sense vs. hormones—and hormones won.
I didn’t swoon. I didn’t smile. I sat there questioning my life choices like:
-Did I really waste brain cells on this?
-Is this karma for all the fanfic I read at 13?
-Did someone genuinely read this and think: “Yes. Cinema”?
If Twilight and a Tumblr quote page had a baby and abandoned it, this book would be the result.If you want romance, watch paint dry—it’ll have more chemistry.I’d rather read shampoo instructions in the dark than finish QB Bad Boy and Me..

"I was beginning to realize you could find peace in more places than just the confines of home."
Dallas Bryan wants one thing, to attend CalArts to study dance. With no funds for a dance team, her only option is being a cheerleader. But things change when Drayton Lahey crashes into Dallas's life. Drayton is completely wrong for her but the more time Dallas spends with Drayton the more she realises it might be time to forget what she needs and go after what she wants.
⤷ One word to describe this book was: average. That's it. There wasn't anything much to it except being an okay book but I still found it enjoyable even though there was a lot of room for improvement!
⤷ Dallas wasn't the most interesting character but I liked at the start she had a whole 'no-strings-attached' attitude towards relationships without being slut-shamed. It was refreshing to read!
⤷ I didn't understand how Drayton is considered a Bad Boy? Tattoos, he smokes and rides a motorcycle. Is that really all the qualifications you need? Way too overprotective and possessive towards the female protagonist and has a dark past, okay never mind, I guess that's all you need. I love Bad Boy characters but Drayton was so boring and stereotypical, like a bit more originality wouldn't hurt?!
⤷ It felt like this book was slow paced and then the romance was a bit rushed, I prefer more development between the characters as it makes it more realistic!

I love Wattpad and there are so many books on there that are amazing and unique but unfortunately, this book wasn't one of them. I've read many books with the same plot and characters, this book just lacked originality and is forgettable. I did enjoy it enough to finish it but wouldn't recommend the book.

This was a cute, quick, and fun read that would be a good one to pick up for the summer to read by the lake or pool. It's a simple read that doesn't require any additional thinking (if that makes sense). Admittedly, even though it was a good read, it certainly isn't one that will leave a lasting memorable impression. It's the typical stereotype of a romance between a 'misunderstood' football star and a cheerleader that is relatable, quirky, and 'unlike the rest of the cheerleaders'. Both of these characters also share hardships in their past.
In all honesty, even if I joke, I could (and will) easily keep reading stories with this same plot. Clearly, I'm not the only one as this plot and these kind of characters are often recycled. Just don't go into this novel expecting a 'different' story because I think you could be disappointed. This story contains MANY of the common tropes and stereotypes that are found in YA contemporary romance. I'm not going to spoil you but it's almost painful because I want to make a long detailed list of just how many tropes that were used in this novel. Alas, I'll keep this list to myself.
I did like the main characters and the chemistry that the two of them shared. The novel was steamy but at the same time it was kept somewhat tamer for those that like a 'lighter' romance. With that being said though, I only really consider it 'lighter' because there is less detail in some of the scenes (you know the ones) and I'm used to scenes with quite a lot of explicit details.
Again, not a memorable read but still a light one to enjoy. I would consider reading more from this author in the future and have no doubts that there will be people who love this book due to the dynamic duo.

I was gifted this duet and read the prequel, Summer of '98, not realizing I was starting out of order. Summer of '98 was definitely my favorite of the two.
Read this if you're into:
•High school romance
•Quarterback + cheerleader
•Family drama
•Opposites attract
•Enemies to lovers
YA isn't my first choice...or second or third if we're being honest, but I do enjoy it occasionally. This one just felt SO young. I get the appeal but it think it's perfect for a younger reader & just wasn't for me. 3 stars.

We were headed to solid two-star territory until our main protagonist decided to blackmail her cheer captain nemesis with photos our hero (!) took of her in a sexually compromising position with an older man. Um, sorry, what the actual fuck? This is problematic for a host of very obvious reasons, and it’s just the most blatant example of a book riddled with a host of issues dealt with completely thoughtlessly like teen pregnancy and binge drinking and the entitled, toxic masculinity of the “over-protective” (read: misogynist) bad boy lead. The book’s cover wants to make you think this is maybe a sweet-but-sexy FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, but it’s actually rape culture dressed up in that package. I usually find it somewhat comforting when I dislike a book, because it happens so rarely and I appreciate being able to have a contrary opinion, but there was no such comfort here. Fuck this book.
P.S. Not giving up on being a secret romance reader! I think I’ll steer away from “bad boys” in the future though.

I was given this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review
I'll start this by saying that if I read this back in middle school I'd probably have loved it.
No, not even high school, because high school me also would not have been able to get over how UNREALISTIC this is for a high school scenario. I think this book would've been 1000x better if they were college kids. Because the shit they did, drinking all the time even with their family, just going on a vacation without family permission, the way they spoke to their parents/guardians. WHO THE FUCK IN HIGH SCHOOL DOES THIS?!?!? And then gets no consequences and gets mad when they're called out???
I just could not handle this.
All the characters were so unlikeable and awful and it made it really difficult to read.
If the romance was cute I could've overlooked how ridiculous everything happening was, because yes it's fiction, but I did not like the couple.
For one thing, I did not like Dallas or Drayton at all. Like, at all. But their relationship was not cute!
This story also fell into the stupid trope of mean girl who hates you and makes your life hell because she's jealous and wants to fuck your man. No. Just please stop. Or at least redeem her in some way. But trying to make me feel bad because her dad is absent and her mom treats her like a teenager instead of an adult... what? That was actually said... but like, YOU ARE A FUCKING TEENAGER! Just because all these other parents allow their kids to fuck and drink through out the whole house, in front of them, and across state lines without telling that they're leaving?
No. I just... This book really pissed me off lol.
It also killed me that there was barely any football, yet somehow there were multiple inaccuracies about football. This could be the editing or something, but it killed me. Just skip over all the games if you don't know the rules. Or choose a different sport.
I also felt like this book just added random drama and crudeness (every joke Drayton attempted to make) for no reason.

January 3, 2023The QB Bad Boy and Me is a really cute teen romance. I could easily see this being made into a Freeform or CW TV series. There were some parts that seemed drug out or a little rough, but overall, I really enjoyed Drayton and Dallas's story.
Drayton is my favorite type of hero. Cocky. Sarcastic. Protective. Big Hearted. Sweet. And Dallas is my favorite type of heroine. Independent. Fierce. Loyal. Strong. The QB Bad Boy and Me also has fun and real supporting characters. Gabby, Josh, Nathan. All of them made this story feel well rounded and honest.
If you're a fan of teen romances and easy reads, then this may be your type of book.

I found this in the erotica section of the used book store and purchased it under the assumption that what I was buying was indeed wattpad original erotica in published book format. Imagine my shock and horror, when I arrived at the first time the main couple has sex at over the halfway point, and it fades to black. Imagine my horror upon realizing that the erotica shelf is probably where some customer happened to leave it when they decided they were not going to buy it. Imagine my horror, when I realized that I had wasted my time reading a straightforward YA romance between a cheerleader who's Not Like Other Cheerleaders, and a rich white quarterback eerily reminiscent of my teenage step brother.
I recognize that this is not the book's fault for failing to meet my genre expectations, and I don't want to rank this as terrible because that feels mean and Tay Marley deserves credit for managing to appeal to a large enough audience to get her internet story traditionally published, but honestly it's hard to give this book a good rating because:
1. It was very boring. There were some weird toxic scenes like when Dallas doesn't let Drayton drive her home at night so Drayton secretly follows her then pretends to violently abduct her into an alley and tells her she's lucky it was him and not a rapist. Then he kidnaps her for real when he finds out her brother isn't home and makes her sleep in his bed for her own good. The scenes where Drayton was weird and invasive are few and spread out, however, and I honestly wished there were more scenes of him behaving like a freak because while it wasn't healthy, it was at least something that wasn't the pages and pages of boring, mundane highschool drama I sat through.

2. Drayton is not an appealing love interest on account of the fact that he is a teenage frat boy, and his dialogue does not let you forget the fact that he's a stupid horny 17 year old ever. He has no filter and cannot go two lines without inserting innuendo and bad sex jokes into his speech. He does this in public even when his friends ask him to stop, and in front of his own mother, who reacts very negatively to all of the multiple instances of him doing this. It reminds me of my stepbrother when he was 17 and would overshare about his sex life to everyone in front of his mother, and wound keep going even when his mother got upset and stormed out because he has no self control. It is not sexy or charming behaviour when Drayton does it, it's just a reminder that he is an immature teenage boy who cannot control himself. People with the same sense of humor as 14 year old boys are not sexy.
Also there was a weird albeit minor thread of teen pregnancy glorification, as it happened to multiple people and there were never negative consequences for any of them.
I did read the first 3 chapters on Wattpad to compare, and Tay Marley definitely improved in between then and the final version, and I'm proud of her for that. And while ultimately changing the scene where Drayton has dinner at Dallas' house and after the fifth time she asks him to leave her brother/legal guardian asks him to stay for beer then immediately abandons them both for a tinder date to Drayton actually leaving was a way better choice for all characters involved, I will mourn the original scene because Nathan's absolute incompetence as a legal guardian was the funniest part of this book and by far my favourite subplot.

Wow, I loved this book! It was so cute and the characters were fun and it flowed so well. Dallas was so independent and didn't let people get her down. She's has a tough childhood, losing her parents and grandma, but she has goals and stands up for herself. I really liked that she wasn't afraid to say that she has sex and didn't let anyone shame her for it. Drayton was so sweet and the things he did to show Dallas he cared were adorable. Their relationship was great and I liked when they were honest with each other about how they felt and the way they worked through things.
Gabby and Josh were great best friends and a cute couple too. Everything about this was great and I definitely recommend it!

Noah Beck is absolutely going to kill the role of Drayton Lahey.
I’ve never written a full review on this book & that is just unacceptable considering I’ve read it twice now & plan to again soon because it’s becoming a movie, no big deal. (internally screaming 🤭)
anywho, the first time I read this was in 2021 & I was in my first ever reading slump & I had already read Summer of 98 in literally a day, so this one was just hanging out on my shelf so I grabbed it because I thought it would be exactly what I needed to get out of said slump. I was right. little did I know, it would become one of my all time favorite books.

this book is hilarious, i laughed so many times throughout! Drayton is definitely someone I would’ve been friends with in high school because he reminds me of all the boys I was friends with & I love it 😂 he is also so sweet & protective, he definitely has his way of making a point but it’s all in the best interest of the person he’s protecting & you find out why later in the story.
i could honestly go on & on but I don’t want goodreads to get mad at me, overall this book will forever be a favorite & one of my ultimate comfort books for when I just need a laugh or a sweet romance.

I really really enjoyed it. Cringy name so I was embarrassed to tell people what I was reading. Title is misleading too because king is NOT a bad boy, he literally just rides a motorcycle. LOVE how obsessed he is about her like that fed me.
Main character isn’t a pushover, god bless🙏, but so cringy with the whole dancer thing. I think I just can’t take dancers seriously so the whole “I’m transported to a different world when I dance” GAG! Like we get it you can bust a move now stop.
Also really didn’t like how the main guy was making sex jokes about the main girl in front of his family and just the general public like that was so icky.
I liked the whole dead parents, she’s an orphan thing I thought that brought actual character to the mc. The dead twin sister thing also brought a little character to the main guy which yay.
I thought the whole Emily plot was so random, like it felt like we had unfinished business with her. And the gabby being pregnant thing was so random and like absolutely not needed, it was just a little side thing at the end that didn’t even matter like we dont really care about them.
Anyways, I really enjoyed the book, I thought it flowed well and had some good substance to it.

I’ve seen a lot of lower stars on Goodreads but I have to admit I actually loved this book. I’m not usually a big fan of YA because I like more steam. But even those this book lacked it I truly enjoyed it. Both characters were loveable. At times I felt like they were older than high school students because of the drinking and partying but I don’t know maybe things are different than when I was in HS 20 years ago 🤣 My true only complaint is I wanted in Dray’s head. So much unexpected things I never saw coming. But I wanted to know what he was thinking. Glad we got a little glimpse in the epilogue it was just too short! Great first read from this author.

This is one of those books where I don’t care what people say this was a cute little romance book. I haven’t read this since it was on wattpad and forgot how much I liked it. The miscommunication pissed me off yet again but we got through it hahaha I still think this should have been called the QB and me because Drayton is not a bad boy 😅

The QB Bad Boy and Me started off quite slow and I almost gave up, I definitely didn't like Drayton initially and Dallas wasn't the most endearing character, As the book progressed so too did my feelings towards the characters but I still didn't love it.
Dallas Bryan wants to attend CalArts to study dance. She is on the cheerleading team as there are no funds for a dance team, She goes relatively unnoticed at school until Drayton Lahey, the teams quarterback crashes into her car.
Dallas lost her parents from a young age and has been raised by her brother Nathan, she knew what she wanted in life and her sole purpose was to leave Colorado for California.
Drayton is rich and cocky, his back-story is interesting but his treatment of the people around him didn't endear me to him. He was quite possessive and known as the bad boy.
The pacing of this book was often slow and I found myself skimming in parts, scenes could have been shortened or discarded all together.
Dallas and Drayton both seemed alot older than what they were, the lifestyle that they both lived I wouldn't exactly put in the YA category - casual sex, drinking, social status.
Overall, this book was quite average unfortunately for me and wasn't unique amongst other books in the genre.

Every now and then I love a good Y/A book filled with teenage angst and drama and Tay Marley's new book The QB Bad Boy and Me, has all those elements. So this story is about Dallas a cheerleader who is only a cheerleader because her school has no dance program and Dray, who starts out being a jerk but we quickly see that that's just a persona he uses to hide the softer side of him. I love how Dallas calls him out on his being a jerk and how Dray helps Dallas live more. Lots of tension and heat between these two but also quite a bit of maturity. It was interesting to see someone the stuff that goes on in the teenage world, boy has the world changed since I was a teenager. This was definitely fun read and good one to enjoy teen angst.

In 2018 The QB Bad Boy and Me was the most-read book on Wattpad, and that is undoubtedly why it was selected for publication. There is a lot to like about the book, content-wise, as well as a lot to raise eyebrows, but author Tay Marley's writing still comes across as unpolished in many places, with lines like, "My sentence was halted and the perpetrator was his warm mouth." Another round of editing focusing on tightening the language would have been a real benefit here, or else a little more reading of established authors in the genre, to get a slightly better feel for the sort of word choice and structure that keeps a book moving forward without jolting readers out of the story to marvel at awkward phrases.
Editorial concerns aside, there were a number of issues that cropped up throughout the text regarding the main characters' attitudes and behaviors.
One that stood out instantly to me as a former dancer was Dallas's belief that being a cheerleader would mean much to a college dance program, particularly when she refused to take classes in ballet or tap to get a foundation which would absolutely be required for someone hoping to pursue collegiate dance. If Dallas just wanted to start auditioning for dance troupes or music videos straight out of high school, it would not matter whether she had any formal training, but in order to succeed in a college dance program, one cannot simply have a good sense of movement. There is theory to be learned, history, and a strong foundation in ballet or at least modern dance would be essential. Dallas's ignorance is made really apparent when she objects to doing the same steps in a different order, which is exactly what dance is. There is a large repertoire of steps that are arranged in different orders to convey different things. Like the alphabet. We just keep using those same boring letters over and over again. So it is absolutely not a surprise when the "bitter" instructor at Dallas's local dance school didn't want to let a teenager who seems not to have any formal training who wouldn't take classes teach classes at her studio.
Bad dance representation is a pet peeve of mine, though, and so I'll move on to the truly worrisome behavior Drayton exhibits early on in the book. He pretends to assault Dallas leaving a club to demonstrate how unsafe it is for her to walk home, and then when he's driving her home and learns her brother isn't there, he takes her to his own house instead, despite her protests, claiming, "I'm not kidnapping you, I'm looking after you." When she calls him on it, he offers a dreadful apology and later that night pretends to pin her down in his bed because, "I just thought I'd show you that if I wanted you, I could have you." It is unclear whether he means he could have wooed her or raped here, but the whole thing is just incredibly awful and Dallas seems way too okay with it.
But let's pause here and point out some good things surrounding this early portion of the book. First, it includes a really good depiction of safe behaviors for going out, such as arranging rides ahead of time, consuming alcohol in safe environments, and checking in with friends and family upon leaving the event. The fact that Dallas later goes on to ignore these things to have the aforementioned solo walk/fake assault scene is unfortunate, but the example of how it could be done remains. There is also a strongly sex-positive message throughout the book in that no one shames Dallas or Gabby for being sexually active as teenagers or having sex outside a committed relationship. The book is also casually inclusive, with offhand mentions of coming out parties, a lesbian cheerleader, female dj's, and nontraditional family structures. These are all good things.
The story turns worrisome again around Homecoming, when a guy Dallas met while on an impromptu, suspension-spurred college visit with Drayton shows up on her doorstep to take her to homecoming. Everyone around Dallas points out that this is stalker behavior, and she does not blow them off, which is great, but the fact that he was allowed to stay in her home was still worrisome. Fortunately, he turned out not to be a crazy stalker, just a sad guy with a lost love he's trying to get over. He more or less exists to give Dallas and Drayton the impetus to rekindle their relationship, although that is immediately complicated by Dallas's cheer captain rival whose characterization is two-dimensional for most of the book, and when further depth is added, it comes in the form of an incredibly unhealthy student-teacher relationship that Dallas uncovers, uses as blackmail material, and nobody takes any further action on. That student-teacher relationship was another worrisome plot point, as was Dallas's reaction to it. Prior to that, however, the cheer captain's obsession with keeping Dallas and Drayton apart makes her character seem shallow and far-fetched, even for a high school girl deeply in crush.
There is also a side story involving the protagonists' best friends which is interesting to follow, although predictable. It feels like Marley never quite got a handle on those two, as far as their personalities, although we are reminded time and again that Gabby is beautiful as well as very good at school. Ultimately there is a happily ever after that seems believable despite some eye-rolling moments that make a reader wonder why rich dudes always have to buy vehicles for their less wealthy girlfriends. It's worth reading a library copy, but probably not purchasing.

The QB Bad Boy and Me was a very cute YA/NA book and I really enjoyed reading it.
The story was funny and easy to read and even though it had some clichés, I still enjoyed reading about Dallas and Dray!
I do feel like some things were thrown in the story and didn't have the follow up they entailed, but other than that this was the kind of highschool romance I enjoy. It has the right ammount of sweetness so it was enjoyable.
And despite having some elements I've seen in other stories, this story captured me and I felt immersed in it. It's a great debut story and I'm glad I read it.

I do feel like some things were thrown in the story and didn't have the follow up they entailed, but other than that this was the kind of highschool romance I enjoy. It has the right ammount of sweetness so it was enjoyable.
And despite having some elements I've seen in other stories, this story captured me and I felt immersed in it. It's a great debut story and I'm glad I read it.

El quaterback y yo, es un new adult muy apegado a su propia temática. Se trata, de una historia de amor básica y de escasa profundidad, aun cuando los sentimientos tejidos entre sus personajes, pretende echar mano de cierto nivel de complejidad, con sendas historias personales, algo más detalladas.
Dallas y Drayton son dos personajes principales, que sí saben bien conectar con el lector, si lo que se busca es la mera sencillez, lo que hace que, en parte, resulten atractivos. Ambos, están bien construidos y poseen una atención argumental que no es que destaque del todo, pero que si resulta correcta.
Tay Marley, se presenta ante su público lector, en forma de carta de presentación. Esta historia, describe su estilo directo y de gran elegancia, pero a la que le cuesta emocionar del todo. Aunque en parte, su trama me ha resultado entretenida, debo admitir que no ha alcanzado las expectativas que su argumento prometía. Su historia me ha parecido en ocasiones, demasiado juvenil y excesivamente lineal.
Sí que es cierto, que se trata de un libro realmente ágil, que se lee muy rápidamente.
