Elemental Legacy #2.5

The Devil and the Dancer

Rate this book
Sometimes falling is the safest step to take.

Chloe Reardon has a problem, and his name is Gavin Wallace.

Okay, Gavin isn’t exactly a problem, unless you consider a highly attractive wind vampire with dubious intentions a problem. Especially if that vampire is your boss. With an affinity for kilts and excellent taste in music.

But none of that matters because Chloe Reardon has had enough of dangerous men. Danger is overrated. Danger is the opposite of sexy. So Gavin is the last man—or vampire—on earth she needs to let into her heart.

Except what if the most dangerous man you knew was also the one who made you feel the strongest?

The Devil and the Dancer is a paranormal romance novella in the Elemental Legacy series.

NOW LIVE!
I am so thrilled to share this story with you. Gavin and Chloe’s story just didn’t fit into Blood Apprentice at all. They were whispering that they wanted their own book, thankyouverymuch. So The Devil and the Dancer was born.

I hope you enjoy the swooniness that is these two characters totally falling for each other.

The Devil & The Dancer has been a long time coming, so thank you Ms. Hunter.
This was sooo good and yet I still needed more. I need a happily ever after once Chloe has made her choice or not.

We meet Gavin Wallace in the Elemental World series and I since then I have been intrigued and mesmerised. I got to know him throughout Ben & Tenzin’s books, and I was chomping at the bit to read more and I have waited a very long time for him to get a book. Sometimes too long. Lol.

I love Gavin there I said it. He is the best, although Gio make an appearance, ah Gio. Hard to pick out which one of her hero’s is the best. Anyhoo. Gavin is a Scotsman and has the whole brogue thing going on. To die for, seriously.

Gavin has everything going for him and more but there is one thing he can’t buy or seduce something he really has to work for and that is Chloe.

He couldn't buy her. He couldn't trade for her. He wanted to seduce her-fucking hell, he wanted to seduce her. But more, he wanted her to come to him, surrender, and throw her lot into the darkness with Gavin.

Chloe Reardon once fell utterly and madly in love to only just land in her personal hell. She has fought tooth and nail to be who she is today. A dancer. Through Ben Chloe was brought into the immortal world and since then she has been getting closer to Gavin. And he has been courting her. But they have come to a stalemate and at some point, something shall have to give.

Ms. Hunter delivers. Every. Single. Time. I have the majority of her books and I am in awe of every book that she has penned and every book she has brought to life and here it is no different. I highlighted probably three quarters of the book that is how good it is. I saw more of Gavin’s past and what he is like beneath his gruff surface and what Vivian is like.

Do I have anything negative to say? Alas. No and I always try to be non-biased doesn’t always work though with Ms. Hunter though lol. Does the book being too short count? No then everything is grand.

Verdict? If you haven’t heard of the author than you must be living under a rock. Basically, a must read!!!! Well all of her books really.

Hunter’s work is matchless. This novella in the Elemental Legacy series about Gavin and Chloe was exactly what I needed. I just love Gavin and Chloe together.
Gavin’s colorful Scottish words keep you entertained and Chloe is someone you want as your bestie. Gio and Beatrice make an appearance as well and that is a great bonus. I love having our old friends return.

This book was an ARC and this is my honest review.

5 stars. Can I give it more? Please?!? Wow, this book is exactly what I needed after finishing Blood Apprentice. (Though you absolutely do not need to read BA before this, there is very minimal cross over and nothing would be spoiled for that book if you read this first) where the Elemental Legacy series has been full of brooding anticipation (for what, only time will tell) this book had that simplistic beauty to it that we’ve gotten in past books by Hunter, like Ink and The Genius and the Muse. Gavin and Chloe’s story is absolute perfection. Sure, as with any good story there are complications and people mess up, even immortals can screw up from time to time ;) I simply adore Chloe, there is something so pure about her, ethereal even. Maybe it’s the way I can envision her powerful body dancing, creating art. Or her cheerful disposition in spite of what her past has held. Regardless I can absolutely see why Gavin calls her his ‘Dove’. Gavin, oh sweet, broody, foul mouthed Gavin. *sigh* I just want to sit back and listen to that Bampot curse in his thick Scottish accent. This may be one of the first audio books I ever purchase, and it will be for that specific reason. I offer no apologies. For every single Elemental lover, this book is for you. This is a special gift for those loyal readers who are waiting around for the lonnnnnnnnng game with the Legacy series. It’s just what I needed to tide me over until the next elemental release!

Ah, love is in the air! Or is it just lust? This is the one fans have been waiting for! Gavin and Chloe have been dancing around each other for some time (well...technically Gavin doesn't dance, but you know what I mean). Touching, feeling, desiring . . . but not partaking! Is this finally their time? Or will Gavin & Chloe AND readers be left frustrated and waiting?

The Devil and The Dancer is a novella, book 2.5 in the Elemental Legacy series, and finally . . . FINALLY readers learn what's going down (cough!choke!) between Gavin, a wind vampire, and Chloe, a human dancer. There's no way to say more without spoiling this short on pages but heavy on feelings story. I highly recommend you read the preceding books first to meet this couple and set the stage. I promise you won't regret it!

Hunter packs a lot of story into this novella as the emotional turmoil and sexual tension threaten to erupt, burning up the pages. It's decision time for these characters . . . do they cut and run or stay and play? While the main story centers around this couple's relationship, other fan favorites like Geo & Beatrice appear as part of the support cast. I really enjoyed the character development woven into this story. As always, Hunter excels at setting the scene, drawing readers in, and delivering the whole package - all wrapped up in a pretty bow and dynamite cover. Open this one and you'll find lots of witty banter, sexual tension, and heartfelt emotions tucked inside. Another fantastic Must Read in this outstanding series!
*With many thanks to the author for an arc of this book.

The Elemental Legacy builds upon the very beginning which is Elemental Mysteries and then the Elemental World.   I would classify Elemental Mysteries and Elemental Legacy as urban fantasy as they deal with one couple primarily, whereas Elemental World is more paranormal romance with a different couple or character in each book.

You could read just Elemental Legacy but being the OCD reader I am, I would start with Mysteries, then World, then Legacy.   But I would really just read them all as they are great!   I do not think this would be easy to read as a standalone.

The Devil and the Dancer is a novella, under 100 pages.   There have been glimpses of Gavin and Chloe, and their relationship in the World and Legacy series.  I am so happy to have this story I didn't even know I wanted until recently. Chloe is an old girlfriend of Ben's and now she lives with Ben and Tenzin, assisting Tenzin.  She also works for Gavin at his bar.

So without spoiling the book,  as with any couple, there are trust issues. Also, as with any human and vampire couple, there are things to decide.  Chloe was abused in a previous relationship.  I'm not sure Gavin has ever loved anyone.

Elizabeth Hunter writes the very best emotional reality in relationships. The feelings are so authentic. There is a bit of humor and a happy ending.

"This one." She held up her tablet and turned it back on. The image of a sleek black cat appeared. "Pete is a neutered male, two years young, looking for his forever home. An American shorthair that likes his humans affectionate and his whiskey neat. He's a well-traveled former rogue who likes heights and being scratched behind the ears."

"Fucking hell," Gavin muttered. "It's me in cat form. Do you think he really likes whiskey?"

This is the meanwhile, back in New York, independent companion to Blood Apprentice and I'm excited to share my early review. This is a "take a breath" book focused more on the challenges of relationships between vampires and humans rather than solving a mystery of missing treasure. Really, replace vampire with guy who works nights and it could almost be a contemporary romance...well, if the hot guy could fly and was over 100 years old. Okay, it's more complicated than your usual contemporary romance but Gavin is all alpha male just waiting for Chloe to decide things on her own time. The tension between the two ramps up to eleven and Tenzin says what we've all been thinking, "You and Gavin should have sex. The tension is really becoming bothersome, and I can tell both of you want to."

This novella from Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental world takes place while Ben and Tenzin are away in Puerto Rico. The story of Chloe and Gavin who have featured as side characters was hot and sweet , I was so happy when I found out we would get a whole book about their story. We get to see the relationship develop with a not so subtle nudge from some of our favourite vampires.
We also meet a new character which ultimately shakes the story up and makes you curious about them.
As always Elizabeth’s romance is beautifully written and makes you swoon.

I was lucky to receive an early copy of Chloe & Gavin‘s novella. It‘s another great story. I was left feeling like I just wanted more of this story. It‘s a whirlwind walk through the developing relationship that we encountered in Midnight Labyrinth. As always a couple of new characters added to the mix and a cameo or 2 from our favorites. I am constantly amazed by how Elizabeth Hunter creates such a rich world, where we also fall in line with the emotions of the characters. A wonderful read even if it did leave me gasping for more...

I am a huge fan of Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental Mysteries and Elemental World books, but I confess this is my first read in the Elemental Legacy series. It’s very unlike me to read a book in a series out of order, but as much as I love Ben and Tenzin as characters, I haven’t read their books due to the lack of romance (romance junkie alert). But I loved the sound of this one, and having a good grasp on the paranormal world, I dove in and was fine reading it as a standalone - though I acknowledged that I've missed a bit of the romantic build up with this one.

Gavin is a vampire who lives in New York. He appeared in the original series, and has clearly been a part of the Elemental Legacy series, as he has an intense flirtation going on with Chloe – a human friend of Ben and Tenzin, and a dancer who works as a bartender in one of his bars. They’ve shared at least one hot kiss, and their chemistry is sizzling and they are in this strange sort-of relationship where they hang out and spend time together, flirting and teasing, but they’ve never made the leap.

They were in stalemate, a pair of would-be lovers, both too cautious to make the first move after months and months of foreplay.

Their situation is far from normal, and Gavin knows that Chloe has issues stemming from a difficult relationship in the past, never mind the mortal/immortal thing, so he has tried to keep his distance. But he wants more, and he has decided that it’s time he finally made his move.

Ever the gentleman, he demanded nothing but made it clear she could take anything she wanted.

“A good man would stop pursuing you. A deserving one would wait. He’d be patient. I’m not a good man.”

I really enjoyed these two together. Their chemistry is fantastic, the sexual tension sizzles and they have a really fun/flirty dynamic. Gavin is just gorgeous as the all-powerful vampire brought to his knees by a human, and his patience and gentleness with Chloe was so sweet - which blends beautifully with his sexy, passionate alpha side.

Other characters from the series make an appearance – Ben, Tenzin, Gio and Beatrice all appear and I loved catching up with them, and there is a small side story featuring a vampire from Gavin’s past, but this book is all about the love story, and it was a really enjoyable read.

3.5 stars.

I was allowed an early peek at this dinky little novella which follows after Blood Apprentice in the Elemental Legacy series.
I seem to have become a bit jaded just lately by books (from other authors) with too much graphic sex, or added violence/peril that seems to have been included to pad out the story or make it "more interesting".
This story is a breath of fresh air in comparison. Nothing over the top, no plot twist parachuted in for shock factor, just a perfect little love story between a sexy Scottish vampire and a lovely young woman who has grown in maturity and personality in the previous books that she has appeared in.
This book reduced me to tears but they were tears of happiness.

After meeting Chloe in Midnight Labyrinth, I could not wait to see wait happened with the amazing chemistry between her and Gavin. And with all the teasing snippets of the New York happenings in The Blood Apprentice I am so glad that Elizabeth gave us the full story. This novella is really a story of falling in love and relationships with a supernatural twist that will make you want to go find your own Scottish vampire. This is a great, easy afternoon read that will leave you with nothing but good feelings!

This was a short but very swoon worthy read. Gavin and Chloe are so sweet together. New character was introduced and it feels like we can expect some more trouble from her in the future. This world is so easy to slip into with each book and characters feel real it’s like catching up with friends. As always, Elizabeth Hunter great job 👍👍 and “Please sir, I want some more...”

I'm in love! Again! I've read all of Hunter's Elemental series and though Gio will always be my #1 vampire I am now officially in love with Gavin. He is hot in a three-piece suit and even hotter in a kilt. But what made me fall in love with him is his sweet and gentle side and his patience with Chloe. Their chemistry is fantastic, sizzling, and through the roof. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their relationship grow. I hope there will be more of their story in the future. Though I just finished this novella I'm already ready to read it again. It's just that great!

E.H. I need another book on Chloe and Gavin! Who wouldn't want to read about a sexy kilt wearing, whisky drinking Scottish Vampire, who is strong and protective to the ones he cares for. Plus there is Chloe, who has been through a lot in her life. To watch her over come her past and become this strong independent women who has become involved in the vampire world. But she still does what she loves and that's dancing. When these two get together their chemistry just ignites into pure passion and love. I really enjoyed this book because of the fact the it was simple. No adventures or searching for lost pirate treasure. Chloe just dancing and then working for Gavin at the bar. Then there is Gavin who just runs his day to day business for the bars and then his vampire business.
But one hitch, someone from Gavins past shows up and causing issues for Chloe and Gavin.Plus Beatrice and Gio make an appearance. This is a must read for sure!

All I can say is ... I want a Scot of my own.

Gavin is sexy, devilishly charming and utterly and completely devoted to Chloe!

This was full of a dash of angst, a pinch of drama and loads of sweet sexy moments that made me smile!

I hope we see more of this couple - at least in glimpses in future Ben & Tenzin adventures.

95 points, 5 STARS!

Chloe Reardon and Gavin Wallace have known each other for a year. When they met, Chloe was fresh out of an abusive relationship, but Gavin has been patient. Now, as he is ready to explore his relationship further with Chloe, his sister, a pain in his ass, is in town asking him for a favour.

Oh thank god, I really needed The Devil and the Dancer. It took the edge off my wait for more Ben and Tenzin in the main series. Now what to do with the rest of the months?!

In all seriousness, The Devil and the Dancer was a great little bit of paranormal romance. Shorter than I would like, but so are all novellas of people I love. We got hints of what happened during Blood Apprentice, and I'm really happy to see what it was really about.

Chloe is awesome, and I love how she is about vampires. She doesn't just jump right in with both eyes closed. She has been learning about vampires, and about Gavin for the last year. Gavin is an old and protective vampire, and he never meant to fall in love. Now that he has, he wants to protect it. Together, the two of them are awesome. We've seen it before. Now we get to see it all from them.

The story itself was fun, but everyone really knew it was just an excuse to get Chloe and Gavin together. I really enjoyed Gavin cursing about his sister, and how he maneuvered her around. But overall kind of forgettable in the light of THEY FINALLY HAD SEX.

I'm happy.

Also it was really nice to see Gio and Bea.

SOOOOOO Gavin - oh my deliciously devilish Gavin - If i could give this novella 10 stars, do you think Hunter would write us a FULL novel with Gavin and Chloe? Well, a fangirl can dream.

Hunter has a talent for making novellas feel like a full story, not rushed, but complete. Gavin is a master at control, at business, at impartiality which has allowed him the success and somewhat drama-free life (shenanigans cannot be absent in the vampire world). But the past always comes back somehow, some way, and often when you least want it to. What has got Gavin twisted?

Chloe - our sweet strong immensely talented young woman. A girl who has set her own path, who has fallen and risen, and is still finding solid ground. Could this dangerous vampire help her build her new foundation? GAWD I adore Chloe - I enjoy how she interacts with Tenzin, with B, and especially how she is just a ball of tension(delicious tension) with Gavin.

Can these two come together or will their fears from the past keep them apart?

Elizabeth Hunter has hit it out of the park again. So many authors struggle to write grown up/normal/exciting romance and yet she always manages it with such ease.

Chloe and Gavin are lovely together and I really like how they’ve taken things so slowly and he has patiently waited for her to be ready to move their relationship along (after such a difficult previous relationship she’s a bit hesitant to open up and be hurt again).

One of the thing I really liked is the Scottish terms. I’m from Glasgow and rarely read the dialect written well. Sure, lots of people try it out and fail - but EH “gets it”. I chuckled out loud at some of Gavin’s more colourful phrases.

I loved the way Gio and Beatrice both have their views and how much the love and care for Chloe and I really appreciated that they both took the time to speak to Gavin. I really think as G and C’s romance develops all of their relationships will improve. I really hope Gavin and Beatrice manage to mend their fences.

I love the way Tenzin speaks to Chloe about Gavin - Tiny,as usual, is just well Tiny :)

Great read and I am desperately waiting for my next fix.

Oh Gavin Wallace...how I adore you. You kilt wearing bad boy. We are so lucky that Elizabeth felt the need to share more of your and Chloe’s story.

And it was awesome! New characters sprinkled in and old favorites stop by. Sigh it was perfect.

For a year the two have been dancing around with their relationship and it all comes to a breaking point. Chloe has been hurt in the past and Gavin must learn to open himself up more.

This novella is a wonderful added bonus to the Elemental world.

The Devil and the Dancer is, in it's simplest form, nothing less than a beautiful expression of absolute love. Gavin and Chloe are adorably fearful and reading of them overcoming that fear together was delightful. Butterflies lived in my stomach for the length of this novella and I was reminded what falling in love feels like. It was a romantic, beautiful, and inspiring story and I loved everything about it!

What an amazing story for Chloe and Gavin! I have been rooting for these 2 since they first met and this doesn't disappoint at all, in fact it surpassed my expectations. Scots in kilts... always a fantastic visual!!

Gio and Beatrice are a wonderful addition and their amazing hearts are always in the right place. Plus, I'm a huge fan of Gio and Gavin's conversations!

All the love for this book!! Thanks for another winner, Elizabeth.

You seriously need to read this novella!!
Cannot emphasise how amazing this book is. The anticipation, the chemistry and the heat between Gavin and Chloe was just stunning and so well written.
The on/off will they/ won’t they is finally settled and it does not disappoint.
Buy it, read it and love it.

This was a story that needed to be written. I can't thank the author enough for not making me wait any longer. While I was reading Blood Apprentice on release day in February, it was driving me nuts not knowing what was going on with Chloe. The hints led to all kinds of terrible things rattling around in my head that I in no way wanted to happen to Ben and Tenzin's friend.

Happily, the book was packed with a lot of drama. Will she? What is he thinking? Why is she here? What is Gavin so stressed out? What is going to happen? Why all the stress? Is something terrible going to happen? Why are Beatrice and Gino coming town, because it could be bad??? These were all questions that popped into my head. Luckily for me the author has a way of gift wrapping a beautiful story with a bow of HEA that makes my day.

I have been so excited, waiting for some Chloe and Gavin, and I wasn't disappointed, not one bit.
This novella, (it's not a full length book), was everything I hoped for and more. It was great to focus on just the two of them.
I'm not usually a fan of novellas, but I'm so glad I read this one.
I definitely giggled, gasped, and teared up, it was a wonderful story to get totally caught up in.
Don't skip this just because it's a novella, it's freaking fantastic.

The start of something beautiful!
Your mind is a powerful thing, and doubts can make or break whether a relationship will progress. We get to see this very real life situation play out with two amazing characters. Chloe and Gavin are great together and the time has come for us to find out if they can or will take their relationship to the next step. I really enjoyed getting to see what goes on in both their heads and having a deeper understanding for the choices that they have made.
I loved the appearances of our favorites, Gio and Beatrice... who wouldn’t?! Add in some family drama, and I was sold!
The only negative I have is that I wish this was a full blown novel instead of a novella. I just loved reading about them and it was over too fast. Mama always told me that I can’t always get what I want. *sigh*
