Jeff Kinney is an author of children's books including Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. Jeff was born in College Park, Maryland, in 1971 where he created a comic strip called "Igdoof."He also created the children's website 'Poptropica'.
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney is hilarious! Greg Heffley, the wimpy kid and main protagonist of the story, has a pretty normal life...for the most part. This middle-schooler's life includes all of the following: - extremely annoying neighbors - mean dumb bullies - an intensely annoying mother - an occasionally irritating best friend - an always provoking older brother - a lousy dog ...and more awful stuff (from Greg's point of view). The book is mainly funny because all of the bad things that happen in Greg's life, for example, when his mom starts a club called "Reading is Fun!"... But the club isn't exactly what you would call "fun."
I really like this book cause its like a humor book and some parts are so funny I laughed so much. I would recommend this book to people who like humor books! :) Hope you like it!
These books are about a guy named Greg who is an original boy with a big family. He has to brothers named Manny who blames everything on him and embarass him at the same time and his other brother named Rodrick who is in a band called Loaded Diaper. He is a brother who wears eyeliner and he also has a mini-van with black spray paint that says his band name. His mom and Dad are loving and caring parents. Gregory also has a best friend named Rowley who had his back since they were friends.
Gregory has his own Bff. It's his journal but his mom bought one with the word Diary on it. Greg said that it was not a dairy even though he right his secrets and his private thoughts in. He doesn't want anyone to read it. But it seems like it is like a Diary. He had alot of friends, family members and girls he likes written in this so called journal.
He's scared of this thing called the cheese touch well so if the whole school. It's about during lunch had dropped his cheese on the basketball court and now its still there all moldy. There was a exchanged student that speaked a different language and so they didn't understand what he was saying but then that day he touched the cheese and so he had the cheese touch and everyone ran as fast as they can. He finally moved away so he took the cheese touch with him.
If you like book who are funny and that are humor book, I recommend this book for you. If you deal with problems like your younger brother blaming everything on you and gives you an embarrising nickname like "Bubba" or if you older brother picks on you and locks you in a closet or a basement, this is a good book. Even if your parents think you should be more responsible when something bad happens. If you have those feelings or that happens to you then read this book!
I picked this series up because my 9-year-old was reading it and loving it and I like to read what interests him. I'd really like to give it 2.5 stars, but I am going to give it the benefit of the whole star system. All four books are written journeal style from the point of view of a sixth grader "wimp" named Greg. It's actually pretty cleverly written and very funny and I found myself laughing out loud a lot. Funny because of the TRUTH of it. If you haven't comepletely blocked out middle school/jr. high, you will probably have some good laughs yourself. But the thing I DID NOT like that brought the stars so low was the main character's lack of character. It's not a big deal to me that he makes a lot of idiotic choices and treats others badly, but he doesn't learn much from the consequences, if he learns anything at all. I'm not saying a moral resolution needs to be crammed down anyone's throat, but I think there could have been a way to give Greg some redeeming characteristics without being obvious. That would have made me a lot happier about my 9-year-old enjoying this series so much. Instead I felt that I had to point out how UNLIKE Greg I hoped he would be as he grows up! I don't care if he's wimpy, but I do care that he's decent. I know, cheesy Mom, but I couldn't help it! I'd recommend this to anyone who has a child reading it, just so you know what they are reading, and to anyone who wants a brainless chuckle or two and a reminder of how nice it is that we are DONE with that time in our lives! The books take about 45 minutes to read for an adult.
I really enjoyed these books because they are very funny and enjoyable. They might seem like books for little kids but when you actually read and understand the books, they are really for adults. They talk about real life situations that a typical “nerdy” kid goes through on a daily basis. I love when Greg (the kid telling his story in the book) says “when dad is mad, he usually throws whatever is closest to him.” Then it lead to show dad with a newspaper in his hand and it said “Good time to make dad mad”; then there was a brick next to dad and it said “bad time to make dad mad”. This was very funny to me because my mom is the exact same way. She will throw a 6” high hill shoe if that’s closest to her.
I think Greg’s best friend, Rowley, is historical. He’s way too funny. He usually pisses Greg off by bragging about his family trips or doing other stupid things. I can definitely relate to that because my best friend Johnathan Davis always does it to me. I remember when I read the first book; it started with “This is not a diary. This is a journal. And I’m only doing it because mom made me.” I would recommend this book to anyone who’s having a bad day and just need a good laugh.
I read all of these four books. I thought that they were very good. My favorite part of these books are that they are funny. I would recomend these books. They are more for little kids though. I still enjoyed them though. My favorite out of all four of the is the yellow book named "Dog Days". Even though I have a favorite I like all of them. I know that a lot of people have already read these books. But if you havent you should really take the time to sit down and read them. I think that anyone who read these will enjoy them.
The series was a good series and would reccomend this book to anybody. the series is just about a kid who is having trouble in middldle school just like most middle schoolers. he wants to be popular and have a girlfreind and be the coolest. he has a freind named Rowley who acts like a 4th grader and is holding greg back but by the end of this series you will see why
its way to kiddy... i needed a book to read soo i read this and i thought there was going to be a little comedy so i guess i dont like it.. i only liked how rodrick is rude to greg and thats beast =D but i really didnt like it
Diary of a Wimpy Kid. New York: Amulet Books, 2005. Print. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is about a kid named Greg Heflley who is in middle school. His goal for the book, which is a mock dairy, is to be popular in junior high school. It talks of all of his incidents and events from his point and view. He is never wronged and always has some one else to blame for the things that happen in his book. The book is done in half illustration and half text. It very much looks like a child’s diary with messy writing and stick figure illustrations. This book could be used for a young kid that is making the jump to chapter books to help them with the transition. The book is full of humor and a great way to get young boys reading and enjoying their time reading.
I think this series is a great series because this author puts a lot of his own life into these novels. These novels for kids can also relate to some of the lives that kids have in real life. In this book a kid goes through like a diary writing about each and everything he does in his life through each month to. Like he would write what his mom said to him each night and what happens in school.
These books are funny and full of excitement. i love how he is telling us about what is going on in his life. he has some problems with friends and bullys and he worries about nothing to big like where to sit on the first day of school. This series is very good i would recomend it. Only if you like comedy
I truly loved these books, for each one was unique and hilarious in its own way. Everytime I started reading in one i just couldnt stop, and it was really hard stopping. I higly recommend to all people who are looking forward to laughing, especially when they will read about this wimpy kid in all of his adventures.
I think this Book is really good for the upcoming newbies to the reading world. I have read every single one since its first arrival on the 1st of April 2007. It is funny and Entertaining. I cant wait until the next one comes out.
I don't usually give fours so here why, it was a great book and I read it over and over and over! But I started losing interest in reading these books but I'm 10 now so I reading adult/teen books like divergent and out of my mind but I love it and I think it's a great book for the younger crowd!
Diary of wimpy kid complete 4-book set is one of my recent readings. After finishing the set, I felt that our lives are actually full of funny things from the Greg's diary, only lacking discoveries and notes.
Greg, the chief actor, is a normal American teen, and he has an old brother, named Rodrick, who always makes fun to him. He has a younger brother, named Manny, who is spoiled by their parents. His father is a snack-thief. His wish is that his boys could become men, but he was disappointed for his three sons. His mother likes to watch love soap operas every Saturday. Meanwhile, she does not like going to fitness center. Rowley who takes a trip all over the world with his parents in all his summer vacations, is Greg's best friend. Greg carried a Torch for Holly Hills, who does not know his name until graduation. Greg fears seniors or strongers and he plays a joke on his weak classmates.
The set is similar to American dramas, that caught your eyes at the start, because it has some funny stories. But I found it nothing but boring, after read third book. To Make a long story short, this set is adapt to teens .
All of these books are wonderful books they are funny and are addicting. These books are great for middle school or maybe even some elementary students. I finished each boom in less the a week and they occupied my time will I was reading them. Jeff Kinney maybe an adult but he has a mind of a middle schooler. He made reading so fun for me and encouraged me to keep reading. I suggest you read the books first then watch the movies, the book will make you not only know what's going on in the movie but it will make watching the movie better by seeing a cartoon in a book come to life. I highly recommend to buy the set or just by one of the books but make sure you read them in order or the books will not make sense at all.
this is a very good collection of books and keeps you reading all day... he learns how hard middle school is and how to survive...he faces many challenges and learns many things along the way...can gregg keep it up or will he just fall...
This series is a terrific romp inside the mind of a tween. The "Wimpy Kid" is Gregory, who reluctantly takes up a pen and journal (not a DIARY) on his mom's suggestion in exchange for getting out of a Saturday chore. Gregory approaches the journal writing with a perfect tween attitude: my mom is not going to read it, so I can write whatever I want to. As any 7th grader might, he is frank in his observations and by incorporating stick-figure cartoon drawings throughout the books, Gregory's perspective of his world is pretty funny.
Author Jeff Kinney really touches a nerve for tweens in the characters he has created in the Wimpy Kid stories. There are bullies, dorks, geeks, jocks, and of course cute girls. Through Gregory's point of view, readers see the ineptitude of teachers, lack of empathy from parents, sibling rivalries, and awkward situations with friends in his every day life. Basically, every page is a sketch of the social minefield that is the treacherous existence of middle school life.
Gregory is in the middle of everything: the middle of middle school, the middle between little kid and teenager, the middle child, and the middle of trying to be a nice kid but not being too nice. Gregory's biggest fear is to be a perceived as a wimp by his peers, a fear shared by readers his age. His struggles and small victories (at home and on the school yard)give hope and inspiration to tweens who wonder how they will survive middle school, even if they never get struck with the 'Cheese Touch.' Gregory usually ends up doing the right thing in the end, but reading his own version of how things usually went very wrong is half the fun of these books. The other half has to be the cartoon drawings. Jeff Kinney has captured the spirit of tweens in these line scribbles and speech bubbles, making them part of the diary.
The Wimpy Kid series, now consisting of eight books, brings tween readers a character that speaks their language. Gregory must deal with parents who don't really see him as an individual the way he would like to be seen and appreciated. He follows the legacy of an older brother, who has left a wake of unhappy teachers and wise-to-your-kind school administrators. Gregory seems to know all the secrets of survival for tweens as he suffers the same trial-by-fire and for all of his embarrassments and humiliations, he is a hero to most middle school kids (my 12 year old son included!).
Because it is a series, readers become very attached and invested in the characters. They empathize with Gregory but they also learn all his secrets and develop an understanding of the motivation for his choices. Gregory becomes part of the family and he grows up (a little) with readers following along. Jeff Kinney's character documents his success and failure in the middle school jungle very honestly, and tween readers appreciate that. They can laugh about Greg's mishaps even when they cannot laugh about their own.

These books have some great illistrations. They go well with the theme of the book and ther is not a part of the book where you feel bored and want to stop reading. The meaning of this story also is really amazing and it shows how to stand up to yourself and in some books it may tell you not to lie and listen to your parents.
I'm a 5th grader teacher and I read this series because my students were reading them outside of our reading class. They are great...very clever and really funny. I recommend this series to upper elementary students.
This is a pretty funny series, let me tell you that. While Greg is, as if, an anti-hero of these stories, he still proves to be a great, though quite smug, story-teller. Once my 9 y.o. sister read the first one, she instantly got hooked, and wanted to complete the collection. Great read.
I read these books over the summer because my brother got them and I heard people talking about them so I wanted to see what they were like. They weren't as bad as I thought they'd be. They are for boys and girls, so anyone could enjoy them!:)
These books are really immature but i find it amusing and kinda life lesson..it shows a typical young boy that grows up lame had one friend which was kind of a dork..these books mainly talk about his life and watt he goes through as he reaches too the top os the high school food chain..
Diary of a wimpy Kid is an amazing book to read. It revolves around the life of Greg Heffley. It's first person (Greg) and he explains his every day life and his adventures he journey's through out his society with his best pal Rowley.
I have read all 6 books and plan to read the seventh.
Diary of a wimpy kid is hilarious and is a must read for teens as the situation at home is pretty much the same =D, my fav characters are greg and rodrick !!!!! and the movies are good to =P
