Forgive me God for I have sin; I came close to throwing my Kindle across the room

Okay so don’t judge me for my curiosity, In the previous book several times I almost DNF …Let’s just say that there was a few inconsistent statements that were made throughout the book that just didn’t line up ……besides the fact that it was a bit unrealistic at times……

Awakening is the continuation of the Tales of Olympus series
This book pretty much picked up right where the previous book left off…….

Hades had torn Persephone to pieces in the previous book with his revelation on their wedding night

Even after he told her that he only married her to get back at her father and her uncles, which are his family rivals in the Mafia world for what they did to his sister……Persephone battled with herself, Due to the fact that she knows that she should hate him for what he is doing to her and her body…..

Persephone, overhears a conversation between Hades and Charon, after that Persephone decides the turn the tables on her husband….. Lol……….
Well at least she tried to turn the tables on him unfortunately she just made a huge mess. If only these two could communicate better ……
I could understand why Persephone wouldn’t want to share anything with her Controlling husband, all he seemed to want to do with her is degrade her or have sex with her I don’t think I’d want to have a conversation with him either……… But then of course Persephone was no better….. Yes I get the whole bdsm Dominance and submission dynamic, but after these 2 got married There was completely no communication …Hey how was your day anything like that……..
Now the question is do I want to torture myself any more than I already have by continuing this trilogy…… But the OCD in me just wants to know what happens at the end between these two…… yeah yeah yeah I know what you are thinking

Very difficult to rate. It wasn't bad, but honestly, based on the synopsis, I was expecting... a completely different story.

The first 50% is 4 stars The second 50% is 3 stars

Awakening is the continuation of the Tales of Olympus series.

So I didn’t like the cliff-hanger ending in the first book. I know there needed to be tension between Cora and Marcus, but a “misunderstanding” is kind of a cop-out storyline. With that said, I enjoyed the first half of the book.

I felt like Cora was really strong and she was trying hard to keep her heart guarded. No one likes to read a book where the Heroine chases after the Hero, okay I don’t.

The book started to get a “mysterious” element to it. And what started out a book about Cora and Marcus is now a book about Cora solving a case of a missing girl. Did I like it? Yes and no. I understand the need for a side plot, you need to kind of stretch out the storyline and that’s fine to me, however it started to get very angsty.

The second half of the book just seemed like a Debbie downer. Almost everyone Cora interacts with either turns their back on her, treats her like crap or uses her. Seriously? You need some light in a book. As much as I like reading Cora trying to be her own person and find her own way. She trusts people easily and people in return treat her like crap.

No thanks.

I was kind of taken aback by the way the book ended. I kind of liked Marcus a bit more, you see the “darker” side of him that I have been itchy to read. However, the whole “secret” storyline is not my thing. I don’t like secrets and I don’t like Cora holding secrets from Marcus because that doesn’t make a storyline. It’s another cop-out.

I want to continue to read the series only because I’m invested into the characters and storyline. I do hope Cora gets more backbone and there are no more cop-out storylines. We shall see! Oh and the steam is pretty good too.

I hope to see a different Cora in the next book

This is my favorite book in the trilogy. This is the second installment and it had more action. Cora was naive but she was fighting and Marcus was the perfect alpha male in this mafia world. The plot was good, I was always on the edge to see what happens.

It had action and filled with so many emotions. The book ends with a cliffhanger so I had to jump for the next book immediately to see what happened. That's how much I enjoyed this book. I would definitely recommend this book to those who love mafia romances, a possessive hero and a modern retelling of Hades and Persephone.

Stasia Black and Lee Savino co wrote this amazing story! It was intense, steamy, and really awesome!
Cora's story continues with her marriage to Marcus. And Marcus continues to be cold and distant with her. She is wishing he would love her, as she loves him.
The characters in this book were so well written and consistent. The plots and sub plots flowed beautifully and concisely. I look forward to reading Queen of the Underworld!
I loved the use of Greek mythology throughout this story (it's explained at the end of the book).

❥¸.•´*¨`*•✿ ❥ “Your body knows you belong to me.”

Fury lit up her eyes but his head was already descending, taking that lush mouth. Taming it.

Or at least he tried. She bit his lip and yanked her arms down from where he held them above her head and started pummeling him with them. Well, as much as a kitten can pummel a lion.

He easily caught her wrists again and pinned them above her head. She screamed out a roar of such fury and frustration, the Shades outside would surely hear and wonder what the hell was going on in here.

But Marcus didn’t care if they heard. He didn’t care about anything except the furious, bright, and shining goddess in his arms. ❥¸.•´*¨`*•✿ ❥

Merged review:

“This isn’t story time. I'm not a handsome prince. Fairy tales aren't real.”

She raised her chin. That vibrant inner strength, the core he couldn’t touch. Couldn’t break. “Love is.”

“If you believe that you're not truly broken.”

She started to shake her head and he grabbed her chin, forcing her to face him. “I will risk everything, even your hate, to keep you safe. To let you live in a world where you believe love is real.”

Her expression softened. She couldn’t hate him. She was too full of goodness. The light in her saved him from the darkness, even when he deserved her hate, earned her loathing, over and over.

“Oh Marcus,” she whispered. “What have you become?”

This one starts four months after the cliffy; it ended with Cora being injured after her and Marcus FINALLY got on the same page with expressing their feelings. Unfortunately, her being hurt spooks Marcus, so we take giant steps back, and I’m just not a fan of multiple books of push pull. We know now that Cora is the daughter of the leaders of the Titans, and her mother was responsible for the murder of Marcus’s sister.

Most of this one is filled with Cora, and her friends trying to locate a missing girl. I thought this side plot was ridiculous because Cora has zero street smarts and she’s as dumb as a box of rocks. It’s like a weird Veronica Mars episode as she runs around with her computer hacker and stripper friends armed with her stun gun cell phone looking for clues rather than consulting her crime lord hubby with his network of resources. 🤦‍♀‍🤦‍♀‍

Reaching in her purse, Cora pulled out the pink cellphone. “It’s definitely dead,” she said, still pressing buttons. “It’s a clue.”

And don’t get me started on the caricature bad guy AJ.

There was AJ in his long fur coat, gulping down oysters. One of his thugs stood nearby.

"I’m just saying, if Daddy ever don’t satisfy— Uncle AJ is here.”

Bottom Line- If I had to choose one quote to pretty much sum it up….

“If you don’t want to be treated like a naïve little girl, stop acting like one,”

For these books to work for me, I need a tough h. She has to teach others how to treat her, and Cora just substituted Marcus for shitty friends and a bad guy in this one. She never listens, or learns, and lets everyone walk all over her.

Unrecorded love, fighting and regret. Three words that would best describe this book.

The book opens up a bit depressing with her heart broken, with him oblivious or he doesn’t care. The more distance he puts between them it will be better in the end. He could not afford to be weak not even when he is around her.
Through out the book they argue a lot and he always win by using sex to his advantage.

The most exciting thing that happens in my opinion is when she have her mission to save Iris. But unfortunately that ended horribly wrong. the Orphan was torn apart which I think he knew would happen by ending his music career. He had just lost the love of his life and he didn’t feel like living without her. Their storyline might have been short leaved but it did leave an effect on me. Their love was described so vividly from Cora’s point of view.

The ending of this book was a bit tedious I mean he had finally open up to her explaining his feelings and seeing him kill that man made her leave him. I mean she already knew he kill people, The only thing that made any sense was her blaming herself anyone would do that in that situation but still.
Leaving him was not a good way to end the book but it did opens up possibilities for the next book.

A year and a half later....

Their story continues with Cora Ubeli wanting to know the ins and outs of her husband's, Marcus Ubeli's Mafia empire. Ubeli is trying hard to keep his angel innocent and pure of the cut-throat lifestyle but curious Cora finds a way to help her husband anyway!

Yes, Marcus loves Cora and she him but this couple will not bend when it comes to him keeping Mafia secrets from his wife and that's when the problems begin... because NOW Cora keeping secrets that are crossing bonds and loyalty.

Cora has made new friendships... a stripper named Anna and a dirty mouth hacker and business owner, Olivia and both ladies are helping her find a rock star's (Orphan) fiancee, Iris. Secondary characters are plentiful and the twists and turns to this romantic suspense was engaging. Armand is still Marcus's business partner but he's also friends with Cora too and that's not a bad thing!

In this book, Marcus is more likeable but he's still controlling and his underboss, Sharo continues to keep up with Marcus and Cora... no matter what!!

I'm really enjoying this series !

4 stay loyal stars!

Fantastic second book in this series!

Quick note: This is book two in this series and does end on a cliffhanger. Be sure to read Innocence (Book One) before reading this book. Also Queen of the Underworld (Book Three) should be released sometime in August 2019.

After everything Cora has been through, she still can't help but love Marcus. He is Lord of the Underworld and a total heartless jerk most of the time, but every now and then she gets just a little glimpse of the man he truly is deep down. Cora clings to that as she endures his punishments and the fact that he is so cold hearted all the time. She sometimes seems to think she is invincible and tries to do things on her own which only gets her into trouble and Marcus has to bail her out. I'm looking forward to seeing a much stronger Cora in the third book, because if she wants to be Queen of the Underworld she better out on her big girl panties and suck it up!!!! Definitely an excellent series so far and I highly recommend it! I'm so looking forward to reading book three!!!!

Buongiorno, Fenici.

Now this is what I am talking about

I struggled with the first book until about half way and then the book took off. I can gladly attest to the fact that these authors continued with that momentum in this book because sweet holy titfire was this intense. The stage is clearly set and the players are all engaged in an out and out war.

This is definitely gritty and dark at times. Yet, it had to be in order to show the inner demons that these characters have. It fuels their motivations and allowed me, as the reader, to understand the stakes and also what makes these characters tick. I really am loving who these characters represent in mythology and knowing these characters a little more, like Cora and Marcus, it really makes the storyline sink its teeth in.

In the first book, Cora frustrated me quite a bit because of her naivete. However, she has grown up in this book. A LOT. She is strong and fearless and no longer sheltered. Marcus still is more dark than light, and by light I mean Cora is the only "light" he sees. Yet, that is perfect because it gives him a softness at times that he otherwise wouldn't have. There is a reason that light needs dark and visa versa. The steam between these two. Sweet Holy Joseph, Mary, Gabriel, and Baby Jesus.. I honestly was worried about my iPad overheating. HOT AF.

This ends on a cliffhanger and boy oh boy am I cussing out these authors right now. I cannot wait for the next part.

I get it. I get the title. I get Cora (sort of). I get the mythology adaption and how it’s infused into the plot. Very solid story telling and character development.

Cora was the sheltered, naive innocent farm girl who is learning how to survive in the big bad city. Her awakening to the world around her motivated her to take some control and it oddly turns into an unexpected girl power subplot. And kinda interesting how it evolved. “Who would fight for them if not for another woman?” She’s trying but geez...Cora girl, all that you are doing is just so ughhh. Come on girl! I just wanted to ring her neck.

Marcus was still the big bad wolf. Even darker and deprave in this book corrupting our brave Cora. And this was still naughty. Very smutty. Loaded with SEX from beginning to end. Cora still waffling back and forth but she’s really done it now!!! What will Marcus do? Punishment is coming.

The note at the end from the authors really put context behind the story rather cleverly. This is strangely addicting. I really enjoyed this and a major improvement from book 1. Can’t wait for the conclusion!

This series is getting better and better as we see a whole new different Marcus he is as intense as ever changing personalities on a blink of an eye and Cora has found her inner self which was nice to see caught up in a whole bunch of dangerous situations but that comes with the territory of belonging to a mafia king and its down right scary to go into and find out what really lies in that darkness. Characters are captivating and grab at you on every page their personalities are very strong as they find out certain things about each other that are now shocking and truths. I cant wait for the next one.

This is book two and you need to read book one first. Marcus and Cora's story continues to unfold and things are getting much more tense. Danger, drama, raw emotion, darkness and action are cleverly combined into the gripping story line that easily holds your attention. The chemstry sizzles and the scenes between Cora and Marcus are smoking hot. I'm enjoying every minute of the evolution of these characters and their relationship. Be prepared for a cliffhanger and the wait for book three! This is my candid review that I am posting of my own accord.

Book 2 - MUST be read in order.

I am hooked on this series. Cora and Marcus are explosive together. So many plot twists and side stories to go with their love story. There were times I wanted to slap Cora in this one. Gah! Major cliffhanger and I cannot wait for book 3.

While I had trouble getting into the first book, I didn't this one. This second book was detailed so that I had no trouble connecting to the characters!! Marcus and Cora both have dark things in their past. I just couldn't put this book down and really want to know what is going to happen in the third book. Dark and twisted, this held my attention from the first page.

This was a dark Mafia story very well written but I expected a simple story focusing more on the couple...... The background story was a little not matching to the relationship building of the couple........ After reading the first book I really wanted a storyline which will help the couple to bond but this was way too much and this storyline didn't compliment the couple that much

"By the time you learned the truth about Marcus Ubeli, it was too late. He owned you, too. And Cora was his most prized possession."

Its no secret I wasn't a fan of Innocence....the overall plot/story held so much promise but the writing didn't hit the mark for me. But that cliffy....I just had to see where it was going and where the story would lead.....

....I couldn't help but dive in and ignore the issues I had.

I won’t let the darkness touch you, Cora.” With a small, hesitant hand, she reached up to stroke the dark hair from his brow. “You can’t keep it away,” she murmured. “It’s a part of you. It’s a part of me now, too.”

The second installment of the Tales of Olympus series is told in a dual POV in a third person way. Picking up shortly after the events that ended book 1, we continue to follow the story of Marcus and Cora. With new enemies making their way into New Olympus, Marcus must do whatever it takes to keep Cora safe and keep the city under his control. Cora fights Marcus on every decision. Marcus fights his feelings for Cora. New characters need help. The Titans are still doing whatever it takes to regain the power they once had. Cora puts her life in danger to help others (more than once). And one night will put their marriage to the ultimate test....because one of them betrays the other. And yes, it ends with another cliffy!

What I liked:

Marcus: Marcus is still the best of our two
leads to me. In this book he does not pretend to be
a good guy and he doesn't lead her on. Everything
he does is to keep Cora safe, even the times she
feels he is being too controlling. He is a bad guy,
but he doesn't mistreat her. He does have to admit
his feelings about Cora to himself, he denies his
love for her. But he isn't hard to like, unlike Cora.
And of course his dirty talking ways....
“You’re so ready for me. Needy. Does my
pretty pussy miss me?”

and dominant ways in and out of the bedroom...
“Don’t you walk away from me.” He
grabbed her elbow and spun her around. “And
don’t you fucking touch me without my
permission.”

...hot hot hot.

Plot/Story: Just like book 1, I really
loved the actual plot and overall story being told
here. The entire modern take on Greek mythology
mixed with criminal underworld elements is pretty
genius.....this installment was faster paced and had
a lot more action and suspense, but it also had a
few scenes that were heartbreaking (that didn't
directly involve/effect Cora or Marcus).

Relationship (Cora/Marcus): Although for
much of the book we deal with Marcus caring for
but not openly loving Cora, the direction their
marriage is heading is honestly well written and
feels like a lot "sweeter" than typical dark romance
relationships do. We know he love her, even though
he won't admit it to himself. She loves him, despite
the fact she doesn't want to. But he just wants to
protect her and keep her "pure" and far away from
the things that make him so dark.
“I will risk everything, even your hate, to
keep you safe. To let you live in a world where you
believe love is real.”

....so sweet!

What I didn't:

Cora: I get it....she is a naive young girl who
has been kept from the real world all her life. That
doesn't give her a pass to be reckless and make
stupid ass decisions for the sake of being a rebel.
Throughout the entire book I found myself wanting
to scream at her or throat punch her. She is one of
my most hated heroines....ever.

Dialogue/Writing Style: Much like book 1,
this one had the same writing style that I just could
not get used to. Instead of feeling like I was reading
the typical flow of a story, this feels like a very
detailed transcript....like a movie script for actors
to read through before performing the scenes. It
felt clipped at times, and then at others included
too much unneccessary "fluff".

Editing/Proofing Errors: I expect issues like
this with new authors as they are still learning
through experience. But put two established
authors on one book, thats two sets of eyes (as well
as their own sets of proof-readers and editors) to
look over their work. One issue here or there.....

...whatever. But multiple misses as well as
questionable dialogue (or word selection/usage). I
start to question if they were in such a hurry to
publish the book instead of taking the time to
put out the very best they could. For example...
He knew just want to say to
humiliate her, to make her burn…

the tiniest little petite waste before
flaring out

And example of questionable word selection...
his not unimpressive chest

....like W.T.F....

Even with the issues, its the damn cliffy that got me to read Queen of the Underworld....and I will say now if I had to pick a fav of the three it would be this one. If you are second guessing finishing the series, just go for it....yoi made it this far and it does end up with some closure.

He was a hurricane in a bottle. Leashed chaos. When he hated, he hated so virulently he’d tear whole cities apart to exact his revenge. And when he loved…

Book: Awakening
Author: Lee Savino and Stasia Black
Recommend: Yes
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️
Age recommendation: 18-30+ Years

Plot:
Book 2 starts 4 months after Cora jumped in front of the bullet for Marcus. After she Hurd him say she was just a chess piece for him to use against the Titans. She didnt hear him telling her he loved her only the end when he said the horrible words.
He stopped locking her up, bought her flowers, took her out everywhere she wanted to go, but also left her alone a lot while he worked crazy hours. She was unhappy, she wanted friends. She went back to helping at the shelter. One night when she was out a singer asked her for help to save his gf who was taken from him so he would play. She wasn’t sure how she could help, but after meeting his manager AJ and finding out he was a horrible man who owned a strip club she decided to help. She choice to not tell her husband about it. She went to club and found the girls phone. She then got Olivia to help track the girl down.
Marcus takes her out to dinner and they place gets shot up, Cora is quite the whole way home, Marcus cannot stand it and finally tells her how he feels, he tells her he loves her, and cannot live without her.
Aj contacted her and told her to come alone to exchange herself for the girl. She dose, except she wore a wire in the hope to trap AJ and get him sent to prison, it back fires and Marcus tried to rescue her. Only to have his shipment taken by the police she was working with and for Iris to be shot and killed in front of her. When they make it back home she witnesses her husband killing AJ by bashing his head in. She run away in the middle of the night and tells him she is leaving him.

My feelings:

Ohhhh I found this book hard to finish. I loved and hated it. Just like the first book. So many bad choices and so much left unsaid.

“Enough. Enough of fighting me. You’ll do what I say because I keep you safe. You’ll do what I say because it is what I say. You stay pure. Untouched except by me.”

Marcus is so possessive, and so controlling. He might be old but man he is stupid when it comes to Cora. I felt like a lot could have been avoided if he just owned up to his feelings. I also felt like it was so frustrating the way he acted that I had to take a break from reading cause was getting so mad at it.
I am glad he finally told her he loved her, but it was to little to late. I love his dark dark nature, if he just let Cora into it she would love him for it to.

“I love you.” It was out of his mouth before he even registered what he was saying. Cora froze and stopped struggling, blinking up at him in confusion. But Marcus wasn’t confused, not anymore. “I love you, goddess.”

Cora down right annoys the ever-loving-f**k out of me. I know she is like 19 and stupid. I get it, but man she has to have some brains in there. Her mother is a Titan, and her Husband is the king of the Underworld, she has it all. Just own what you got and be happy. AJ tried to kill her, and killed Iris. Why in the world he scared that your husband killed him… I mean I wanted to kill AJ myself. So annoying. Even if she didn’t marry Marcus she is still a Titan and still a Mafia princess even if she didnt want that life. Might as well embrace it all.

“You’re made of light, angel. Summertime and everything good.” He buried his nose in her hair. She even smelled like sunshine. “Your light will drive the darkness away.”

Can we take a few minutes to talk about Sharo… he is the only level headed man in the book. Only one saying the right things to say, and the only one who actually notices what needs tone done. Poor man has had like 5 lines int he whole book, but those 5 lines made the whole dam book.

Do I recommend this…. Yes mainly for the head-f**k it gives you, and the emotional whiplash you go though reading it. The storyline itself could use some work but any book that has me needing a break is clearing doing its job in gaining my attention.

EVEN BETTER, this second episode is so AMAZING that 5 STARS are not enough!
AWAKENING is still as DARKLY psychological and erotic as the first novel in this episodic tale, and it continues the tale of Marcus, a man of POWER and Cora, the woman who dares to love him. This breathtaking episodic story has so much going on, that again I needed a moment to digest before moving on to whatever will happen next. And there was ALWAYS something unexpected, daring, or sinister that followed each breath I took. Each page of AWAKENING is full of action and new information written in easy-to-read, yet descriptive prose that both authors are known for individually and excel in a new and spectacular way as a writing team. In AWAKENING my love of Cora and the naiveté of her efforts also continued and once again, within new and different plotlines, I still find myself unable to even take a deep breath as my reading is taking me ever closer to the point when I know everything will change. My fear is that the change will not be for the betterment of either Marcus or Cora. In AWAKENING the relationship between Marcus and Cora is again accelerated by circumstances and continues to be interpreted through Cora’s limited experience. However, in AWAKENING, readers are given more insight into Marcus, his business dealing, his thoughts, and his angst, and it helped me to understand him a bit better, and why he made some of the choices he did. While reading AWAKENING, each breath has matched a punctuation mark, each character has pulled at my emotional being, and the complex plotlines have guided me through actions as if my conscience exists only on the pages of AWAKENING. This second novel is just as dark, with explicitly sexual scenes that make it suitable for readers 18 and over, and it includes some triggers, so readers need to be aware. I voluntarily read a copy of AWAKENING and this is my voluntary and HONEST review of an AMAZING 5+STAR novel. If you like your romances to be well-written, action-packed and STEAMILY romantic, then AWAKENING should be your next romance purchase! Just one other warning – there is a cliff at the end as this is the first part of a trilogy. I can hardly wait for the rest!! Happy pages! 😉

"...tiniest little petite waste...” It’s waist, not waste. Gah! Plus tiniest, little and petite are repetitious. Pick one already.

I will say this story has enough going on that the sex between Cora and Marcus has become secondary to the plot. That being said, the storyline also highlights how Cora exemplifies a stupid human being. She knows Marcus is a crime boss. She also knows she comes from a crime family that has already made one failed attempt at kidnapping her. Now, would any sane adult ditch their bodyguards so they could flit around the city going to parties, meeting with questionable strangers and infiltrating the enemy’s establishment? I hate when authors describe stupid women doing shit like this as “strong” or “independent.” No they’re not. More like someone with a death wish. Not only do they endanger themselves but their loved ones invariably get sucked in.

And what’s with giving more credibility to what virtual strangers tell you than the people you know? Do you think they don’t have an agenda and are more likely to tell the truth? OMG, Marcus attempting to keep you alive and safe is such a travesty.

Seems to me that the ease in which Cora escapes the Estate could be exploited by bad guys wanting access.

"And she was far too valuable an asset for AJ to hurt her...at least that was what she was counting on.” I don’t suppose AJ could have his men beat the living crap out of her as they did Anna or stick a needle in her a la Iris and then send photos to Marcus. That or turn her over to the Titans. Well thought out plan Cora. You must be invincible. She knows there are crooked cops so why would she trust Pete?

Cora’s plan not surprisingly turns into a clusterfuck. Her solution, yet again, is to run away instead of (wo)manning up and taking accountability for her actions.

How do the fans manage to get to The Orphan? Didn’t they increase security after the first performance? Who’s running this outfit, anyway?
