In this second in a series, The Via Advent Shawn Small's creative and unique retelling of the familiar story—the birth of Christ—captures anew the profound mystery of Christ's Incarnation. The Via Advent is a celebration both of the birth of Christ and of those individuals whose faithfulness, patient supplication, and obedience to the high calling of God was so wonderfully rewarded. Presented to us in the context of their history and in the fullness of their humanity, Shawn invites the reader to participate in the discovery of the Messiah through the lens of those whose lives intersected so dramatically with the great unveiling. As in The Via Crucis, Shawn’s narrative seems so naturally married to the simple, elegant, and moving illustrations of Jenny Slaver. Enhanced by the Holy Scriptures and poignant quotations, The Via Advent is a wonderful exultation of the never-ending glory and the life-changing truth of the birth of Jesus, the Messiah, into our world.
This was a unique and interesting devotion book for the Advent season. Told through storytelling from different perspectives, the events that led to the miraculous birth of Christ come alive and left me with a deeper understanding and sense of wonder.
Designed to be used from November 27- January 6, I highly recommend to make the Christmas season special and meaningful.
