Between Us #2

A Change Within Us

Rate this book
A desire to be free.

A passion to find someone understanding.

Drawn together by their inner wolves, for love—forever.

Tanner is a high-ranking member of the Desert Town wolf pack, one of the most stable packs on the planet. It's hard to be happy when you're at odds with yourself. A new, handsome wolf is making it even more difficult to make decisions.

Can Tanner get all four paws on solid ground?

Angelo is a recent import from the Pacific Northwest. After past failings, he's deeply uncertain about opening up to an unknown wolf. Yet he can't help but feel strongly attracted to him.

Opening up is rough after losing so much.

A Change Within Us is a wolf shifter mpreg romance. Like all Desert Town pack stories, there's never any cheating and always a happily ever after. This book is for adults only due to the unmeasurable amounts of steam.

I enjoyed reading this latest installment in the Between Us series. I liked both Angelo and Tanner. There were the usual misunderstandings, but they didn’t go on too long before the two MCs talked them out. I felt the book got way too melodramatic when it delved into Angelo’s past. It just was a bit over the top for me. It was good to see Skylar again. The family interactions were the part that I liked the best. While the events of this story were wrapped up nicely in the end, it does end in a bit of a cliffhanger which sets up the next one in the series. Overall, I liked the story and like all the characters enough that I’m looking forward to the next one in the series.

Hmm okay there’s some tension, some hot guys and it looks like we have some plot too.. okay coo.. wait was that a typo? Oh, there’s another typo.

Holy Bambi big daddy! I think I need some tissues.. to wipe away the drool running down my face.. I’m salivating reading about Angelo, he’s like this quiet, discerning, calculating and commanding Alpha. Tanner is a different kind of submissive than I’m used to reading and I really like reading about the struggles he had in being able to just “let go”. He’s not a small man. He’s something like 6ft 2in and well built, so often times not what you would mentally associate with the common submissive type in books. Also.. also.. there is PLOT and I’m super curious to read on. Ok I’ll admit there are some more typos here and there but who gives a bulls balls when you have such a good story to read..

OMG they are actually talking about stuff instead of just having sex and saying fluffy things.. what an anomaly. I love it. now, Onward!

70% I.. ok I can’t spoil things! Ugh! But I can say this, Bye bye butt virginity! (As my friend Heather K always says).
We added some angst into this tasty soup, and I guess it’s just as tasty with the added ingredient.. also.. the plot thickens.. other things thicken too... honestly sometimes I think if you have one of those huge thick penises it’s a lot of work to have sex.. like not just anybody can have sex with you and you gotta warm them up and probably take weeks of, uh.. stretching.. so you know, they can fit it in.. anyways! I digress!

Squeeee!!! I can’t tell, I can’t! This has turned out to be a much better book than I thought it’d be when I started reading. editing aside.

Okay. That ending made me all happy and mushy.

Honestly this book had a lot of things that I love. Alpha males that aren’t stupid jocks with a big dick for brains, the alphas in this book are actually pretty awesome. The relationship between the alpha and his submissive actually felt more like a normal relationship than anything bdsm. So if that submissive/dominant stuff scares you away, give this one a try anyways cause the vibes in this book are wayyy different from any kind of bdsm or submissive/dominant books I’ve read. It’s kinda like a tiny extra flavor to the book.

I loved all the family interaction and the taste of building families. There was a bad guy and that added some suspense too.. the back stories to our characters are actually really well done and I felt like I really knew them by the end of the book.

The only complaint I have is that the book needed some more editing. It wasn’t terrible in the editing department, but there was plenty of typos and sentences with added words that made no sense for them to be there.. you know, stuff that editing usually picks out. But, it wasn’t a big deal for me cause this was just such a great story.

I did not read the first book in this series and I understood everything, in fact, I think it may have been even better having not read the first book in the series.

5 stars!! LOVED IT!

Highly recommended!

3.5 STARS

Both books in this series could've used a liiiiittle bit more editing and proofreading but I personally didn't mind it that much.

Overall an enjoyable Mpreg read! The addition of that BDSM element surprised me, but not in a bad way! It was hot! 🤷🏻‍♀️🙌🏻

This one didn't work for me but I feel like a lot of problems I had with this book were specific to me and not things that make the book bad in general, so your mileage may vary.

This book has a way too complicated plot that involves gangs and a lot of gangs at that, which seems to be a staple for this kind of thing and I wasn't thrilled with the fact that I was reading a shifter romance and the plot was not based on anything shifter related, like the plot was way too contemporary for me and that's not what I want from a shifter romance.

The other thing that I didn't like about this book was that there is so much happening in Skylar and Troy's life in this book and we hardly get to see it. Skylar does feature in the book to an extent but Troy might as well be missing for all the screentime he gets. Since this book picks up right where the last one left off that was to be expected but I think the authors didn't cater to that need to know that Skylar and Troy were good. I feel like either this book should have been set at some time after the first book when it would be easier to believe that Skylar and Troy were settled for good, or it should have reassured us with glimpses into their life together because most people reading this book would have loved or at least liked Skylar and Troy so seeing them struggle in their relationship early on in this book really grabbed my attention and kept me distracted because I kept trying to pick up signs that they were good which the book failed to provide in sufficient quantity.

The other thing this book definitely built upon was the submissive nature of Tanner and how that compliments Angelo's dominant side but we didn't get any delicious BDSM scenes between them especially since the book mentions everything from nipple clamps and flogging to cock cages and cock rings. This book is very very light on the BDSM aspect almost to the point that I actually don't think it falls in that category at all, because a lot of the power dynamics between these two could be explained away by their shifter nature.

I feel like I really liked both Angelo and Tanner as side characters in the previous books but as main characters, they just didn't grab my attention as much as they should have.

Overall, this is an okay read with a few good twists and turns but otherwise, the best thing about this book was that shocker at the end setting up the next book in the series.

Angelo is a bar owner who has a reputation for taking in people in need. He has had a rough life and knows what it’s like to struggle. Anything he can do to make life a little easier for someone in a similar situation he’ll do. As life goes on after his “son” moves in order to be with his mate, Angelo is lonely. When he’s invited by his son’s mate to spend the holidays with them he’s more than thrilled to go. He never thought his life would change forever during that trip.

Tanner is a beta wolf, a pit bull of a lawyer and the second-in-command of his pack. He’s always had a certain perception about how wolves should act and feel. He tries so hard to keep a fetish of his from his pack and in doing so hides a very important part of himself. He’s forced to face it when he meets his brother-in-law’s father, Angelo. Sparks fly between them and Tanner finds himself wanting to submit to this shifter. He doesn’t trust Angelo though. He knows that Angelo is a shifter but can’t quite figure out what kind of shifter he is.

As they get to know each other, Tanner begins to put his misgivings aside and surrender to his desire to submit.

I had no idea that this book was part of a series. It didn’t take anything away from this story but it did make me want more of Skylar and Troy’s backstory. Guess I’m working backwards and will read the first book now.

I loved Angelo and Tanner as mates. They were what each one needed from the other. It’s so heart felt how Angelo is with his family and how Tanner always tries to make sure everyone else in his family is taken care of, neglecting to make sure he takes care of himself. Such great characters that I enjoyed getting to know.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second book in the Between Us series. In this book, Angelo goes to Texas to see Skylar and his family for Christmas and meets more of Troy's family. Skylar and Troy were featured in book , The Time Between US. Angelo meets Tanner, Troy's brother and sparks fly. Tanner is a beta and he has been looking for something in his personal life and exploring a BDSM club in the city. Tanner wants to submit to someone and long to turn over control. Angelo is an alpha, but it id hard to tell what type of shifter he is and he is secretive about it. When Angelo kisses Tanner, he knows he is his fated mate and he wants to dominate Tanner. Angelo knows he has to tell Tanner what he is and Angelo expects Tanner to run away from him like everyone else in his life has. I really enjoyed this book and i really loved the characters. Angelo's story was so sad and emotional. I loved Tanner and Angelo together and thought they had a great connection. I love Tanner wanted to help Angelo and accepted his past. I can't wait to read more about of this series.

3.5 steamy, fluffy, romantic and a tiny bit different/dangerous shifter mating stars

As with the first book in the series, this rates a more enjoyable than most 3 star ratings for me (as it hits a level of shifter steam and cheesy romance that just works for me), but not quite reaching the quality of most of my 4 star rating experiences. It delivers some very nice heat, especially when a tough second-in-command beta let himself fall into his deep need to submit in the bedroom. Throw in some basic but decent and enjoyable shifter/pack aspects, a special shifter species, and some nicely intriguing (but more quickly shown and not experienced) characters histories interwoven with current threats. For me, it ends up being a good mix of steamy romantic and lightly Domanint/submissive sizzle, cross-species shifter mating, and quick history/threat plots with a quick and pat but satisfying ending.

A quick and nicely diverting (and sometimes sizzling) shifter mating and (almost) insta-mate match.

(It has both grammatical/punctuation and some content issues that could benefit from a good editor.)

Angry humans who want money power and revenge are far more deadly - along with pride, anger and poor communications.

We finally learn the backstory for Angelo, and meet his dragon.

And he meets his mate - Tanner Miyu, who just happens to be the Beta and older brother to Troy - baby daddy and mate to Skylar - adopted son to Angelo.

Alpha Troy invites Angelo to come not only for Christmas, but a little early - Skyler is pregnant again, and missing his Dad.

A tumultuous visit follows, bringing new lives, deaths and danger to this complicated extended family.

I love the excitement and connections. Looking forward to this next exciting romance/adventure!

I didn't like this book as much as the first in the series. The story was okay so I guess it was that I didn't really connect to the characters. I really liked Angelo in the first book, and he was fine in this book, but I didn't really feel the connection between him and Tanner... and I found the BDSM-light scenes just awkward and somewhat boring.

My major complaint regarding this book (and it's same same as for the 1st book) were the amount of editing errors I came across: misspellings and incorrect punctuation. I find those kind of errors unprofessional and inexcusable and the editor should be fired (if they haven't already been fired for book 1).

I loved this accompanyment to the first book. The story was well thought out and well written. Tanner was such a warm and loving guy, who was able to trust Angelo whole heartedly and it was a pleasure to read. There was so much going on in the storyline between both Tanner and Angelo that I couldn't put it down. I had to get to the end and when I did, there was a pretty awesome cliffhanger. I'm hooked. Can't wait until the next book!

As always, this is an amazing story. Beautiful characters that grab at your heart strings and a fantastic story with it. The action, the suspense, and the twists and turns are just the beginning. The love, the hot intensity, and the amazing backstory and flashbacks just make you want to keep reading and wanting to know more. This book did not disappoint and I am definitely looking for the next one.

amazing shifter story with a twist, the alpha is a dragon, Angelo thinks he is the last of his kind, Tanner is a beta who has submissive tendancies and cant figure out why he is unfulfilled in those needs until he meets Angelo. their story has tons of twists and turns, and great angst and emotion and will keep your attention till the very end and beyond

What a wonderful story! Angelo and Tanner are perfect for each other. They of course have to deal with miscommunication, misunderstandings, tragic pasts (Angelo’s), present danger (Tanner) but eventually they get their happily ever after and a beautiful extended family mingled with Vasquez and Miyu members. I can’t wait to hear Tristan and Aiden’s story.

Angelo goes to spend Christmas with Troy, Skylar and Lilly. While he is there he meets the whole Miyu family. When he looks at Tanner Miyu he knows he is the one for him, but Tanner is a wolf shifter and Angelo is the last dragon shifter and inter species relationships do not work.
A great book to follow on from Troy and Skylar

Wonderful

I read the first book in the series and immediately downloaded the second. It is a wonderful story and I really hope there will be another one really soon. I would have given the book a five star but the punctuation was a little bit off with some editing issues. But otherwise, the story was wonderful.
