Mitch & Cian #5

The Rest of Our Lives

Rate this book
A year after their first kiss, Mitch and Cian have settled into their relationship and life in Dublin. There’ve been ups and downs and one or two unexpected turns in the road, but through it all they’ve gone from strength to strength.

Going home to Castleforest for Christmas means having to stay with their own families. Neither Mitch nor Cian enjoys being apart, but the sting of separation fades in the wake of a surprise from Mitch’s mother, and reconnecting with old and very dear friends lifts their spirits further.

Back in the city for New Year’s Eve, they throw a party for their friends and at last acknowledge the depth of their feelings for each other and the ties that will bind them for the rest of their lives.

This last instalment in the Mitch & Cian series comes with delightful surprises, fabulous parties, and declarations that will make your heart sing.

Helena Stone can’t remember a life before words and reading. After growing up in a household where no holiday or festivity was complete without at least one new book, it’s hardly surprising she now owns more books than shelf space while her Kindle is about to explode.

The urge to write did come as a surprise. The realisation that people might enjoy her words was a delightful shock. Now that the writing bug has well and truly taken hold, Helena can no longer imagine not sharing the characters and stories in her head and heart with the rest of the world.

Having left the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam for the peace and quiet of the Irish countryside she divides her time between reading, writing, long walks, and her part-time job in a library. A grown-up daughter and her ever-loving and patient husband make sure she occasionally takes a break too.

I’m so sad. That this is the last installment makes me sad. I’m so happy for Mitch & Cian and how far they’ve come and the discoveries they’ve made. But it’s sad to think I might not see them again. Well, I will revisit them, don’t worry there. But ya know what I mean…..
To see these two grow up so much and learn so much has been its own reward. They had some major and minor ups and downs. Nothing too major, but it definitely took some communication on their parts to make it right. Communication AND listening. But now they are headed home for the holidays and are a little bummed. They know they’re parents are accepting of each other and them living together, but they feel a little jipped at not getting to spend the holidays together together. In the same bed and all. But what they don’t realize, is the parents have another surprise for them. And over the time they are home, more surprises come over the horizon. But what comes with those surprises, comes with more realizations. And one realization about something they’ve never shared. And maybe it’s finally time to rectify that situation.
If you’ve kept up with these guys, and I hope you have, you know that they have been through some stuff. Nothing that a lot of most couples don’t go through at the start of a relationship. Especially when both of you are new to everything, pretty much. But they’ve also taken the time to learn. And a lot don’t. People tend to forget the main part of having any relationship is that you have to communicate. And listen. Listening is just as important. And sometimes it seems like they don’t, but they do what they can to make it right. It doesn’t mean they aren’t going to mess up. They’re still babies and babies in this relationship. But they are learning quick. I’ve been so happy and proud to watch them grow from where they were to where they are now. They’ve still got a lot to go. No one is ever fully grown, but they are doing their best and I just love it. And I love them.
I’m going to miss these guys. I hope somewhere soon down the road, they will come back to visit. If only briefly. I hope you all have enjoyed this ride as much as I have.

The Rest of Our Lives by Helena Stone is the perfect conclusion to Stone's series of short stories about Mitch McCann and Cian Leavy, their families, friends, and, of course, Mr. Nichols, the very welcoming librarian who first brought them together in A Miracle in the Library, and who continues to influence their lives through all five stories.

Be aware that the Mitch & Cian is filled with heat (read sex). The stories certainly could have been told with far fewer descriptions of their sexual encounters without loosing any of the magic of the full series.

Each of the stories can be read as a stand alone, but the series will be best appreciated if they're read sequentially.

Reading about Mitch and Cian is so special to me, I have been following their story together since the first Miracle in the Library, and every time we get a new snippet into their lives is like visiting old friends, or in parts as if they're my own children, I love them so much! Now that they're both in university and used to living together, they go home to their hometown for the holidays and they are supposed to be apart for one week with their respective family, and neither of them is fond of the idea.
During this vacation they will lern the real extent of their families acceptance, some truths about friends, and how much they mean to each other.
A sweet epilogue to a lovely series!

I have absolutely fallen in love with this series and I didn't want it to end.
It was wonderful seeing Mitch and Cian come full circle.
Despite the difficulties they had establishing their relationship, they've come out stronger on the other side and it seems they've also been a bit an inspiration to others as well as realizing themselves how much they've been loved and supported, if in secret.
There was plenty of love and laughter and
it was a wonderful experience getting to know these characters, one I'll always treasure.

Sadly this is the end of the Mitch and Cian series, this has been a very pleasant journey as we followed them through their growing relationship, moving in together and finding peace with their concerned parents. Gently written and so enjoyable, it's sad to say goodbye. The author has hinted that she may write more sometime down the road but has no present plans, one can only hope.

I've been loving the series with Mitch and Cian, their start was so sweet and I'm sad to see it end, for now.
Their story wrapped up beautifully a year after they met, their love have grown and their trust in each other is strong. I liked how their friends and family came together around them as well.
A lovely story with great characters.

I have really enjoyed these stories. They are real, sweet, growing and learning, and Mitch and Cian are so good together. Helena has assured us they while she has nothing in the works coming up, she may at some time give us a new story. I would definitely be up for seeing how Mitch and Cian have grown.

What better day than New Year's Eve to read the concluding entry in the Mitch and Cian series? It's sad to see the story end but riding along on the journey of their first year together has been romantic, humorous, realistic, and simply put: entertaining and a pure delight.

I don't really think there is much I can say about The Rest of our Lives that I haven't said in the previous entries other than don't miss out and don't let the novella size fool you because Mitch and Cian's love story is perfect just as it is and jam packed to the rafters with high quality storytelling.

There's just something magical about this one(the whole series really) not just because it's the holidays or because it's their one year anniversary but because of . . . well you'll have to read to decide for yourself, trust me you wont' regret it😉. Another holiday romance gem to enjoy for years to come.

BTW: Mitch's mom being a Star Wars fan is such a lovely treat. As a lifelong devoted SW nerd it always adds a special flare when a character(be it main, secondary, or cameo doesn't really matter) is too and when that character is a woman, that's an even bigger dessert special because too often it's the male character that is the fan so for that element, Thank You, Helena Stone💙

I want something set about ten years from here to show they are still together and happy because if they aren't, I will be so sad.
