The "Thrown Away" post-apocalyptic saga continues with an entirely new second series.
A message has arrived from the Inner Zone. One that sparks a million questions. "Contract terminated." Now Jack and Ryan are to go their most dangerous journey yet – back to where they came from…
GLYNN JAMES is an author of science fiction, post-apocalyptic, dark fantasy, horror, and dystopian fiction. His love of science fiction began when he was eight years old after discovering HP Lovecraft and Richard Matheson, and then later on Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, James Herbert, Clive Barker, and Stephen King.
In addition to being author of the “ALTERLIGHT” supernatural mystery thriller series, he is author of the dark sci-fi series "DIARY OF THE DISPLACED", the post-apocalyptic "THROWN AWAY" series, and co-author of the "ARISEN" series and the “DUSTFALL” series.
I would say this first book in the second part hasn’t been thought through completely. There were several inconsistencies and i couldn’t follow the thought process of the characters at times. The expectations Jack and his crew had about the state of the depot in the InnerZone felt off. They expected the original slave depot but why would they? Since Jack and the remaining leaders of JunkTown took over the JunkTown and the Facility, why would the InnerZones government still send slaves as workforce to a facility they don’t own anymore? It would be more logical to use the remaining depot only for the logistical centre for goods to trade as described they have. So why would they expect that? That it is indeed and surprisingly abandoned is a totally different story. But the speculations of the characters make no sense to me. The author couldn’t convince me with this work.
I read this series in boxed set format but am reviewing each book separately to get proper credit for my annual Goodreads book challenge. I thoroughly enjoyed the rich universe of characters and locations contained in this series. Once I got used to the flashback style of writing in Series 1 (parts 1-7) I went on to enjoy Series 2 even more than its predecessor (there didn't seem to be as many flashbacks in Series 2). Glynn James has a way of creating a dystopian landscape in my mind's eye, e.g., the Junklands, that really transports me away from reality and into the book. With that in mind, I am really sorry to see the book and storyline end.
A really interesting direction but I think a little more on how long junk town was independent and things that were done items traded etc. would have made the whole weird empty-dust covered end of this book a little more yes more can’t wait for book 2 maybe a little back story?
Nice continuation, but it could have been longer. The story ends at a pivotal place in the story with every aspect of their lives up in the air and undecided.
I just finished part one and a sample of part two and so far have enjoyed it very much . Now I'm going to down load the rest and get started reading .😆
