I last saw the movie Roman Holiday decades ago, but the story has stayed with me. Loved Audrey Hepburn, the beautiful Princess, motoring on a scooter around Rome with Gregory Peck to escape her royal responsibilities for just one precious day! This book is a delightful homage that puts our favorite sparring couple of Pride and Prejudice on a similar path. In this case, both are eager to avoid returning to their current residences.

Mr. Darcy has just discovered that his lack of attention to his London town home has not earned him his staff's loyalty. When a guest's mother drugs him and his valet in an attempt to compromise Darcy and force him to marry, he barely escapes dressed as a footman. Elizabeth Bennet is returning from the theater with her sister and aunt when she sees him collapse on the street and, at her insistence, he's brought to the Gardiner's home overnight to recover. Unfortunately, members of Darcy's household staff are prepared to support the fiction that a compromise DID occur despite Darcy's absence. He needs Mr. Gardiner to attest that he was in Cheapside when the supposed compromise took place. As a tradesman having an unusually busy day, Mr. Gardiner proves hard to track down.

Elizabeth and Kitty are in London because the Bennet family is in disgrace in Hertfordshire for a reason explained near the book's end. This lends even more urgency to the need for Elizabeth to marry the despised Mr. Collins; it could regain some of the family's respectability. Despite Mrs. Bennet's objections, Mr. Bennet is allowing her a few weeks in London with her sister on the highly unlikely chance she might find a less ridiculous husband. When Mr. Collins shows up, Elizabeth is desperate to avoid seeing him.

It's a perfect set-up for all that follows. Assisting "William" the footman in seeking her uncle gives Elizabeth an excuse to stay away from Gracechurch Street. Darcy has to humble himself to behave like a servant but finds he's enjoying his anonymity. He enjoys getting to know the surprising Miss Bennet even more.

As they follow Uncle Gardiner's trail through London, the plot to force Darcy's unwanted wedding continues to deepen. Even Darcy's uncle, the Earl, has men out looking for him. The chase is on!

Ms. Clarkston does a fantastic job of gradually increasing the tension as Darcy's desperation builds. On the other hand, she offers up light-hearted moments such as cameo roles by humorous characters from another of Jane Austen's novels. We're also treated to romantic scenes between Elizabeth and Darcy, including a balloon ride and a waltz at Vauxhall Gardens. The writing sweeps you into its embrace, and you feel as frustrated as they are with their untenable situations and their undeniable attraction for each other. The author finds a perfect balance between their shared "holiday" and the more serious undertones. She gives us a wonderful climactic scene, and then she starts another build for the eagerly anticipated reunion between our dear couple.

This has such a great blend of well-drawn characters, adventure and romance. I'm just thankful that, unlike the classic movie it borrows from, there's a happy ending.

Received an ARC from the author with no promise of a review, favorable or otherwise.

I received an ARC of this book only yesterday and could not put it down. It is not a short book but it is an enthralling one. It is well written and the author, IMO, "nails" the cant of that period. I loved the conversations, the humor and the descriptions of both William and Miss Bennet coming to discover bit by bit more of the other's character without pre-knowledge of or introduction to each other. It amusing to read of their ignorance of even each other's name and how they proceed in their relationship from there.

I found it quite a curious change in this variation that Darcy's London staff seems to have been enticed to forge loyalties to another. Most JAFF tales have the servants highly loyal to the Darcys. Their reasons are explained...and dealt with but it makes the necessity of a "London Holiday" NOT spent from the meeting place of Darcy's home an understandable reality.

Elizabeth's situation and how severe it might be is not explained at first. Knowing canon one would assume it is just any contact with the loathed suitor BUT was we read there is a matter of disgrace and/or taint from an event in Hertfortshire that is actually a new slant. So that matter has more weight but it only is revealed later in the story.

The author deals with the prejudices about having relations in trade, not having any wealth or connections in a different manner here. Darcy knows nothing much except that this family has picked him up off the street and sheltered him overnight. And that is simply due to Elizabeth's tender heart. The parties expect that he will sleep it off and go on his way the next day. Darcy has literally been painted into a corner and thus minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour, he seeks to find a way to not have to return home. It is all so amusing as the most eligible bachelor tries to hide his well-known face from family, friend and "foe".

I urge all to read this. I will, at some time, re-read it. I am waiting to see what the cover looks like as I am sure that will be most interesting what with the intrigue within this book.

Take-it-easy and Live-long are brothers. ~ German proverb

Lady Catherine and her daughter force Darcy from his home to avoid a planned compromise and unwanted marriage. The de Bourghs’ planning has been at work for months (if not years) and includes handsome bribes to servants at Darcy’s London home. The longtime butler, housekeeper and upper servants are willing to swear that Anne spent the night in Darcy’s bed chamber.

Darcy, drugged by a footman, manages to escape the house with help from his valet Wilson. The drug takes effect before he is able to reach safety. He is discovered by Elizabeth, Kitty and Mrs. Gardiner who transport him to the Gardiners’ home to sleep it off.

A vacation is like love — anticipated with pleasure, experienced with discomfort, and remembered with nostalgia. ~ Author unknown

Darcy has disguised himself in a footman’s livery. Confusion reigns as to his true status. He appears to be a servant but is the proudest haughtiest servant ever seen. Darcy finds he is able to hide behind his new persona and none of his acquaintances look at his face; they see only the livery.

Elizabeth Bennet also has cause for hiding: Mr. Collins arrives in London and invites himself to stay with the Gardiners. Two of the Bennet sisters are in disgrace in Hertfordshire. Marriage to Mr. Collins would redeem the family – maybe. Which sisters are disgraced? Lydia is a good guess. Kitty and Elizabeth are in London. That leaves Sweet Jane or Pious Mary! How could either of those ladies have sinned?

Elizabeth Bennet eventually spends a day with the servant “William” and the two become friendly. Their day includes sightseeing and adventure in Vauxhall Gardens.

Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop. ~ Ovid

I was reminded of the scene from “Pretty Woman” – the couple shares an impromptu picnic complete with bare feet in the grass. The uptight businessman takes a day off for the first time in his career. So, too, does Darcy relax for the day with consequences he could not have foreseen.

A unique plot! A humorous edge! A love interest! A great cover photo!

What more could I want from JAFF? Oh yes! An epilogue with a twist! Loved it!

“A vacation [holiday] is having nothing to do and all day to do it in.” –Robert Orben

What can I say? This was brilliant? It was completely clean. What an interesting premise and twist on our P&P characters. This story took our Darcy and Elizabeth and had them meet under entirely different circumstances, in a different environ and in total anonymity as to their true identities. For most of the book, Darcy had Elizabeth’s name but didn’t know she was a gentlemen’s daughter. He assumed she was from trade and probably lived above her father’s shop. She only knew him as ‘William’ and that he was pretending to be a footman but had figured out that he wasn’t. She had no idea he was the scion from Pemberley, nor did she know his worth.

Lady Catherine: OMG! I have read some pretty outrageous antics from Darcy’s b-witch of an aunt, but this, this was the icing on the cake. This was high octane and incendiary. Any minute I felt the place was going up in flames. OMG! She was horrid as she completely took over Darcy House and Anne was such a surprise. Watch the clues because they will lead you down the wrong path. I know because I followed that well-worn path fat-dumb-and-happy thinking I had figured it out. Nope, our author sent me out into the boonies on a wild-goose-chase. Dang! I hate when I fall for that and yet I love it when an author can trick me. Kudos to Nicole for such a brilliant twist.

“When you go on vacation [holiday] with people, you learn a lot about them.” –Sarah Mlynowski

I have always wanted page time with our dear couple. This was page time for sure as they traipsed all over London together. Yeah, this was a propriety issue and they received hell from their relations because of it. I loved the homage to ‘Roman Holiday’ and it was so appropriate to this story.

Angst, well yeah. It wouldn’t be a P&P variation if there wasn’t angst. Their misunderstandings were monumental and it all boiled down to… he didn’t express himself clearly and she misunderstood him entirely. These two were hot for each other but could never bring themselves to stop and say ‘what the heck are you trying to say?’ Oh well, it came to a wonderful conclusion. I gloried in the epilogue as I finished in the wee hours of the morning.

I received an ARC [advance reader copy] from the author with no expectations of a review. The views expressed are my own. There are some fantastic reviews already … I can’t wait until the cover reveal.

This was an excellent rendition of a Pride & Prejudice Variation publication. I loved it! It held my interest consistently, fed my need for humor, and was hard to put down. The plotline, characters, and humor were blended together to create a perfect read. This author definitely has the ability to craft a good yarn resembling the 'What If' from The Pride & Prejudice classic.

Blurb:
When the truth is harder to believe than disguise. Drugged and betrayed in his own household, Fitzwilliam Darcy makes his escape from a forged compromise that would see him unhappily wed. Dressed as a footman, he is welcomed into one of London's unknown neighborhoods by a young lady who is running out of time and running for her life.

Deciding to hide in plain sight, Miss Elizabeth Bennet dodges the expectation to marry the man of her mother's dreams. When the insolent footman she "found" refuses to leave her side until they can uncover a solution to their respective dilemmas, the two new acquaintances treat themselves to a holiday, experiencing the best of what Regency England has to offer. Based on Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, can two hard-headed characters with kind hearts discover the truth behind the disguise?

Enjoy the banter, humour, and growing affection as Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth have the best day of their lives and discover that they just might find love and romance while on a London Holiday. This book is appropriate for all ages.

Dear Reader,

Take one haughty, handsome gent, don him in the apparel of a footman, drug him and lead him on a midnight stroll through London.

Take one beguiling, impertinent gentleman's daughter on said path through London, sit back and savour the numerous humorous encounters, mild, flirty exchanges and innocent touches shared while jointly enjoying a day long jaunt in the city.

Witness the heartwarming and utterly endearing moments shared while endeavouring to avoid capture by familial expectations, unwarranted and unwelcome demands.

Fret at the miscommunication that shatters unexpected dreams and ponder how these two seemingly disparate individuals can be set on the same path, meandering gratefully, to a sublime HEA.

Rest assured, dear Reader, that all will be well!! Pray,do not forget that we are in the hands of a wordsmith, one who weaves an intricate, witty web of words, peppered with the essential ingredients of angst, romance and mystery!!

I absolutely adored this book and highly recommend it! Treat yourself to this! You won't be disappointed!!!

Disclaimer: I have never seen Roman Holiday and after this I probably don't want to
{RN: I am writing this review as I read}
I felt like this book was a great short story idea that was dragged (Kicking and screaming) into full book length. I liked the idea and there were occasionally segments I found enjoyable; Col. Fitzwilliam describing Anne as being horrible, Darcy's valet verbally dueling with Lady C. But the scenes between Darcy and Lizzy were just excruciating. I am a BIG Proponent of Show don't tell but their scenes are annoying dialogue and banter heavy. Endless, endless exposition and banter until I was mentally screaming "Shut Up, Shut Up, Shut Up"

The premise is that this is Arsy Darcy (Stick up his butt) His imperiousness has made his staff less loyal. The Entire extended Fitzwilliam clan & Darcy's father expected him to marry Anne. When he refuses Lady C uses members of Darcy's own staff to aid her in arranging a compromise, or the appearance of one. Already being drugged Darcy's valet warns him and Darcy escapes to the streets of Mayfair disguised as footman. There he is discovered and helped by Lizzy, Kitty & Mrs. Gardiner.
I really loathed this Darcy; he is convinced every woman wanted to compromise him. Following his night in the Gardiner's servants' quarters he is worried that Mrs. Gardiner will force him to marry one of the girls. What follows is what one might term a comedy of errors except that it is Darcy's Pride that allows the insanity to continue.

A majority of the book takes place over 24 hours. As the book proceeds we get more and more P&P characters shoved in. For example Collins appears at the Gardiners house and becomes a house guest... now this is simply mind boggling. Collins is no relation to the Gardiners, Lizzy went to London to avoid him. The simplest solution is "Not at home" the next one is "Get off my lawn".

There are twists, turns, surprises, and more that are fairly good. And each one is discussed.

There are P&P books that I can't put down and I get lost in; this wasn't one. I would read a few chapters and have to put it down in frustration.
We have so many Regency manners errors I cannot figure out if it is supposed to be parody. First we have Lizzy & Kitty scampering around London without a maid or a footman. I am not assuming this it is straight up stated. Then we have Lizzy sitting in a London park alone again not assumption. Later when she and Darcy are scampering all over London with him disguised as a footman she gets all "You can't sit in the carriage with me" Why the hell not you obviously have no care for your safety or your reputation.

[RN: I swear to God if this is all a dream I will be furious]

Historic error: Darcy says to Fitzwilliam something about joining the navy and dying under Nelson's flag. Nelson died in 1805 ... was it still called his navy after that?? {RN: It is later stated that it was 1811}
At one point Darcy asks if it is too much of an imposition for "a lady" to enter a warehouse. A Warehouse in the regency period is more like a Costco or a BJ's rather than a modern Warehouse. In S&S “The rest of Mrs. Palmer’s sympathy was shown in procuring all the particulars in her power of the approaching marriage, and communicating them to Elinor. She could soon tell at what coachmaker’s the new carriage was building, by what painter Mr. Willoughby’s portrait was drawn, and at what warehouse Miss Grey’s clothes might be seen.” https://www.janeausten.co.uk/clothing...

Here is an ad for a furniture warehouse
http://www.regrom.com/2017/05/24/rege...

During a tour of the city Lizzy recognizes "humble Scotland Yard" which well wow "Richard Horwood's 1799 map of London shows Great Scotland Yard on the eastern side Whitehall, opposite The Admiralty. Below it are two streets that are culs-de-sac: Middle Scotland Yard, where Whitehall Place is today, and Lower Scotland Yard, entered from Middle Scotland Yard. " Also Whitehall is one word not two. Scotland Yard as the home of the police didn't exist until 1829

A cheerful and heart-warming story that will put a smile on your face
What a fun romp that was! So lovely to see Elizabeth and Mr Darcy having such a novel opportunity to become acquainted and truly discover each other. Just like Audrey Hepburn in ‘Roman Holiday’, Mr Darcy escapes the trappings of his daily life in town, and is free to roam without imposition, detection or censure. Not that he feels free, the poor man, with such a threat hanging over his head, but I loved how the footman disguise allows him to spend so much more time alone with Elizabeth than he would have been allowed as a gentleman, and their association has no reason to raise eyebrows. What is more natural than a young lady being escorted hither and thither by ‘her uncle’s footman,’ and what better chance for them to get to know each other? I loved how Darcy is taken down a peg (or several) as he struggles with the indignity of being relegated to the servants’ quarters or forced to travel at the back of a carriage, and it was so nice to see how he learns to bring his pride under control. The instinctive outbursts of the prideful gentleman are hilarious, as is the need to keep his head down, put up with the indignities, and try very hard indeed not to offend the young lady who seems to be one of his very few allies. The ways he comes to discover her true worth are a lovely read, and their gradual falling in love is exquisite. The Vauxhall scenes are a delight, the latter ones in particular, much as Mr Darcy could really do with learning how to express himself clearly in order to avoid a series of complications. But complications seem to spring into his path thanks to unhelpful or downright ill-intentioned characters who keep interfering until we are left to wonder how he is to ever find his ‘happily ever after.’ The secondary characters are skilfully fleshed out, and they do their worst. Lady Catherine is insufferable, Mr Collins as much of a nuisance as ever, and Col Fitzwilliam is mercilessly amusing himself at his cousin’s expense. Others show true kindness and a great deal of common sense. Mr and Mrs Gardiner are adorable, and I found it very reassuring to see that Mr Gardiner responded to a particularly explosive situation as a sensible, protective and affectionate uncle, with no overreaction, but with more gentility than his ‘betters.’
I could have wished for no better conclusion to Elizabeth’s and Mr Darcy’s troubles than the ever so rewarding one Nicole Clarkston offers us – such a lovely reversal of canon events! – and the glimpse into the future is ever so heart-warming. A feel-good book to curl up with, that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Unputdownable!

Hilariously funny and excruciatingly thrilling book.
Loved the imaginative and unique plot.

Lady Catherine was a piece of work in this story and her attempt of compromising him, sends a drugged Darcy onto the streets of London by night, dressed as a footman. Luckily, he was rescued by Elizabeth and her relations as he went unconscious.
A game of cat and mouse ensue, that takes ODC all over London. ODC is searching for mr Gardiner, lady Cathrine and the earl of Matlock are searching for Mr Darcy and the Colonel and Mr Collins are "helping".
Laugh out loud funny with some sigh and swoon-worthy moments as well.
Ends in an heart-warming and lovely epilogue.

Loved all the interactions between ODC and the fact that it was plenty of it.

Heartily recommend this book!

What If Someone Devious Tried to Entrap Mr. Darcy?

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Source: Review Copy from Author

TYPE OF NOVEL: Pride and Prejudice Variation

SETTING: Summer 1811, London

SYNOPSIS: In an alternative Pride and Prejudice timeline, Elizabeth and Kitty Bennet are enjoying a sojourn in London with the Gardiners before Mr. Bingley arrives in Netherfield with his houseguests. On their way home one night the sisters spot a handsome footman who seems to be intoxicated, injured, or possibly the victim of some crime. With no idea who he is the ladies offer shelter to this poor and incoherent footman. Little do they know that the man they aided is not a footman, but a wealthy member of the ton who was trying his best to thwart a serious comprise scheme… This “footman’s” trials are not over yet though, he can’t return home without a way to clear his name and protect his future. What happens when this disagreeable and prideful man seeks the assistance of his kind yet impertinent savior, who he believes to be the daughter of a tradesman?

WHAT I LOVED:

- “By All Means, Rome”: I absolutely LOVE that this story is an homage to Roman Holiday (a movie you HAVE to see, if you haven’t already!) What an imaginative idea! And I must say, it was executed masterfully – perhaps a teensy bit whimsical, but it was a plausible plot that doesn’t force ill-fitting parallels and contains many of its own charms and originality. My favorite parallels were the delayed-action sedative and the adventurous Vespa/carriage rides through the city!

- An Unraveling Premise: I love how Nicole Clarkston kept her readers in the dark! She doesn’t explain why Lizzy and Kitty are in London, she doesn’t reveal what happened to the other sisters – but she hints that something happened, and she keeps mum about a few other secrets that characters are hiding. Even though I might have felt bursting with curiosity at times, I enjoyed speculating about what had happened and seeing if I could figure everything out. I appreciated the skillfully employed slow reveals, and I loved that there were several surprising twists along the way.

- Such New Roles: I loved seeing Darcy and Elizabeth in such a unique situation. Seeing Darcy dressed as a footman yet not at all accustomed to behaving like one was hilarious and adorable. Not to mention seeing him don a disguise and act a part! And I so admired Elizabeth’s unselfish concern and determined assistance. She is a marvel! I really enjoyed the experience of seeing Darcy and Elizabeth on such different footing with each other, you really couldn’t predict how their relationship would evolve.

- Enchanting Interactions: Speaking of Darcy and Elizabeth, there were so many beautiful, tender, comical, and overall sublime moments of them together in this story! *sigh* I loved seeing all these endearing exchanges, and I couldn’t possibly decide which I liked most – the playful banter, the picnic, the balloon ride, or the waltz. Again *sigh*

- Vauxhall Gardens: It was lovely to see this historic entertainment site so prominently featured in this novel. With vivid details and thorough descriptions, it was clear Ms. Clarkston researched the pleasure garden extensively. I really enjoyed the various sites and activities we witnessed taking place there.

- With a Little Help From Our Friends: I loved Colonel Fitzwilliam’s role in this story – his comments and antics were a riot! And I equally loved Mr. Darcy’s valet, Wilson, what a gem he is! Mr. Darcy is lucky to have both men on his side…his opposition is a devious and formidable force!

WHAT I WASN’T TOO FOND OF:

That Roman Holiday doesn’t have the magnificent ending that this story has! 😉 Thank you, Ms. Clarkston for fixing that!

CONCLUSION:

London Holiday is a rollicking romantic lark, brimming with tension, intrigue, romance, and wit! Written with skill and style this is yet again another exquisite offering from the pen of Nicole Clarkston!

What a delicious Regency Rom-Com with a side order of betrayal and deception that has our favourite couple, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, eluding their respective nemesis in plain sight! Be prepared for "Murphy's Law" to kick in and find out how they each handle the situations. Shock and awe at this wickedly creative variation that slowly built up the tension until the magnificent end!

The descriptive verse was fabulous as you jaunt around London with one impertinent female and one opinionated male. Characters jump off the page, and at times, I was laughing so hard, I needed to wipe the tears from my eyes. Oh the lesson in etiquette was brilliant and so many scenes are just so 'irresistible'.

"A dignified Venus, a virtuous seductress...a man was more likely to find a unicorn." (quote from the book)

Our villains have the upper hand and all appears lost but appearances are deceiving...

This novel is worthy of it's own movie! I highly recommend this wonderful flight of fancy to all lovers of Jane Austen.

2022-April: Excellent audiobook! So enjoyable and fun.
Elizabeth is in London, escaping with Kitty from the Bennet's fall in society, due to Lydia and Mary.
She is on the verge of being forced to marry Collins, but takes the opportunity to escape his company, which puts her in the path of Darcy for the day.
He is escaping his family's machinations. After some grousing, he starts to see E in a different light. But the path of true love has many pitfalls, sometimes the worst is one's own mouth.

* I "love" the scenes in which Darcy and a relative (in this case Col. F.) talk about setting a lady up as a mistress, as if it is the simplest thing in the world. Because of course the lady would fall at his feet and kiss them ingratitude and say yes immediately, never mind the complete ruination of her reputation, not to mention her whole family's!! Why on earth would any woman have a care for her honor or those of any future children she would have in such circumstances?!??! Even a woman from a family of trade could have had her standards and honor. Who could possibly think that the lady might *gasp* say NO! Grrr-Arrgh!!!!

2020-A very cute, light-hearted read.

Down several pegs to be raised on high

Wonderfu, Wonderful, and Wonderful! A totally AU jaunt with the most accurate characterizations. He is so very haughty and she, so very impertinent. But circumstances throw them together for the most memorable day of the entire Regency period any romance reader will ever experience through however many tomes of this genre in which one indulges. Set aside a full day or so to enjoy yourself.

Author Nicole Clarkston utilizes several dramatic contrivances over the 300 pages that if you are willing to take a leap of faith, suspend your belief, this Austenesque pastiche will be a satisfyingly sweet confection. The novel begins with Darcy escaping his London townhome in the dead of night dressed as a footman after he discovers his aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, has drugged his drink, scheming to slip his cousin Anne into his bed to force his hand in marriage. His valet discovers this mischief after the fact but still within the hour so Darcy is still conscious. When the carriage carrying Elizabeth Bennet (who is visiting her aunt and uncle in London), nearly runs a drugged Darcy over, she takes this handsome “footman” back to Cheapside to give him aid and shelter for the evening. And that is how the story begins!

As with other Clarkston books, her Characters are thoroughly fleshed out and she takes her time developing her tale. This is a clean romance that will take you on a merry chase, encountering numerous fences before reaching the denouement.

Enjoyable "what if" scanario that is far off cannon. I have not really watched "Roman Holiday" which others have alluded to. I really enjoyed this book but honestly, there was almost too much itneraction between D&E and I wanted it to hurry up and get to the ending. I particularly thought that after their "day" it stalled a bit waiting for "something" to happen to get them back together. the confrontation with Lady C was epic and her character and scheming in this book is worth a read by itself. I truly thought she should have been punished more, but I digress.

This entire situation was delightful and I really enjoyed reading it especially now when I'm uber distracted in my personal life. A truly great escape that was easy to put down and pick back up and remember what was happening. BRAVO!

Now, i cannot wait for this author's anticipated North and South book!!

The idea for this story is so sweet and original. I loved it. I wouldn't mind having a footman like that...

This is a great story that doesn't take itself too seriously. It starts when Darcy is drugged by Lady Catherine to stage a compromise. Darcy becomes aware of the plot and leaves the house, dressed as a footman to avoid detection, before he becomes unconscious. He doesn't get very far and is found by Elizabeth, her aunt and sister who are returning home from the theatre. Darcy needs the Gardiner's to evidence he could not have been at home when the compromise is said to have happened. The majority of the book is about Darcy essentially taking a day out of his own life, spending time with Elizabeth whilst pretending to be a footman, whilst waiting for Mr Gardiner.

I enjoyed this book a lot... a lot happens in a day though... maybe a bit too much. I also would have liked to see a bit more at the end. However, I read it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lady Catherine and her daughter are simply awful, Darcy is a complete snob when we first meet him and Elizabeth is a very lighthearted, good humoured sort. There is some really great humour. Probably more of a 4.5 stars but I don't think this is one I'd read again (unlike everything else I've read by this author)... therefore this gets 4 stars.

Fun, original ideas with interesting ways of incorporating ideas from canon. I like the cover on YouTube (where I listened to this story) more than the one I see here. It was a ten hour listen.

Oh What a Busy Day! Elizabeth and Darcy spend a day running from place and place in London trying to avoid their relatives (each for their own reason). Adding to the fun is that neither has been introduced to each other. Under the disguise of anonymity and the stress of their mission, they each open up to each other and find a mutual attraction. All good days find their end unfortunately and our dear couple must trust each other to find their happily ever after.

The story was fast paced, had a bit of mystery, contained beautiful descriptions of Vauxhall Gardens, and kept me up all night since I could not put it down!

Love this romp through London

Lady Catherine hatches a plot that Elizabeth helps rescue Darcy from, and they fall in love in one day while taking in the sights of London. He is disguised as her footman . I adored the banter and the plot felt fresh to me.

One of the Most Charming Love Stories Ever

This started full of mystery and alternated between Lizzy and Darcy’s point of view. How well Nicole Clarkston developed her characters from an arrognant footman and delightful Lizzy (whom he thought was from the Merchant class). Both kept each other company for a day to avoid undesirable matches with relatives. What a rotten Lady Catherine and stupid Mr Collins! Darcy even had treacherous servants in town where he did not know whom to trust after he was rescued in a drugged state by Lizzy and the Gardiners when was dressed as a footman. The visit to Vauxhaux (?) was a delight, especially the balloon ride when the two realized feelings for one another, but they parted seemingly forever with seeming unwanted suitors at the end, but changes were waiting after a few miserable weeks. I felt for Darcy with such treachery and Lady Catherine and Ann seeking to use him. There’s a wonderful epilogue many years later that makes for a perfect ending.

This is a must read that is sure to delight. It is professionally written. I felt that I was there. Now how I would love to see a film version of this.

4.5⭐️ What a fun and unique premise of P&P. The author has a creative way of infusing Austen’s word from cannon into the story.

I enjoyed Darcy’s and Elizabeth’s interactions; however, it did seem improbable at times and defies proper Regency behavior. Their extended London Holiday at times seemed far fetched as they continued to encounter obstacles. The Hunford Style misunderstanding was creative and believable.

I did find it a bit unclear on the Bennet’s situation especially since you didn’t find out until near the end of the story and it was barely addressed once it was brought up. Even though there were some quibbles, it did not take away from enjoying the story.

This was so much fun to read! I have never read a variation like this, and I have literally read hundreds. It has excitement, intrigue and a good dose of humor that I found absolutely enchanting. Wonderful read!!
