I am totally using this for my summer creative writing classes, for it is completely rad and full of super ideas from some of my favorite writers. Duh. It's so great! I forgot to mention this one thing, which is that the cover (which upon inspection is actually pretty cute and funny) at first looks like the motif of the "Love is Letting Go of Fear" board game/books/other crap that my mom (a therapist) gave me as a gift when I was a teen. Cartoon sailing ships are forever a little bit tainted in my mind.
I stumbled into 826 Valencia solely because my friends in SF wanted to show me "The Pirate Store." They neglected to tell me, their token teacher friend, that it's actually an amazing writing center. I'm currently flipping through their collection of writing lessons, compiled from workshops offered there. Good stuff.

Creative writing tips for kids, and secretly for me. The tips are cleverly written by famous people. There is an awesome Tall Tale writing project by Steve Almond and Revisions advice by Sarah Vowell. 826 is genius. I'll photocopy parts for you if you send me your mailing address.
This book is full of practical and inspirational writing activities and lesson plans for elementary through high school students. What I appreciate is that it is by a group of "real" teachers from the San Fransico Bay Area, and so all the activities have been "field tested."
Great book for teaching writing created by the good people at 826 Valencia. Contributors include Dave Eggers, Sarah Vowell, Steve Almond, and Neal Pollack
