Trapped on a derelict space station, Jake must destroy an alien infestation—or he’ll never see his home again.

Still reeling from the death of his parents, Jake finds a doorway to an abandoned space station in his grandfather's basement. But when he walks through, he discovers he's trapped there and he’s got company.

The station's AI enlists Jake to reclaim the systems needed to support life, but there’s a catch—he has only eight hours to complete the task or he’ll die alone in the cold vacuum of space. With only his trusty wrecking bar, work boots, and some basic survival equipment he must defeat the horrific monsters that infest the station before his air runs out.

But aliens aren’t all he has to worry about. Hidden in the station is a message that could spell doom for Earth, and the entire universe along with it.

If you're a fan of crunchy, sci-fi LitRPG with a healthy dose of base-building, then this space survival adventure with visceral combat is the book for you.

Alert

I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.

So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Now, since I have to keep explaining myself to people who don't like my reviews, I guess some clarification is in order.

1. I am 100% against criticism for works of art. Art is subjective, meaning reviews are irrelevant. The observer's opinion is only relevant to the observer. It is my belief that regardless of what others might say, I have to experience the art for myself.

2. I read upwards of 20 books a month. The $10/month I spend on K U, feels like I am cheating the authors. But since I can't afford 20 books a month if I were to purchase them directly, all I can offer is a positive review. That leads us to the final point.

3. If I get to the end of a book, then it was worth my time. I give those books 5 stars because it helps the author get exposure. That is the only reason I write reviews at all.

I understand that people are people and they are going to do what they do regardless of my stance. I know the way that I review books upsets some people. I am sorry they feel that way but as many have said, they will just ignore my review going forward. In fact, if you made it this far through my review, you should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews here. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

Cheers

Great to see a well developed Sci-fi book in the genre

A really well thought out and fun read. It's part survival, part crafting, part space opera and it comes together very nicely.

Looking forward to book 2

This book though a litRPG novel is more of a sci-fi story and though both genres are great favourites of mine I must admit I have become more of a LitRPG fan and in this novel I really missed the usual characteristics of this genre. I have found Inheritance to be very technical and full of minute details about building up the space station which Jake had inherited and which he had found himself on too boring. I found myself drifting off into space myself whilst reading by passing whole passages of such details. Maybe males who are into building and technology would appreciate such a book more than I did but for me this was rather a disappointment. The creatures which Jake had to fight against were also quite boring and he hardly upgraded at all throughout the book. I do believe that the story became a bit more interesting when he left his own station to reclaim another damaged space ship and really heated up towards the end. Keeping this in mind maybe book 2 will prove more interesting. I really enjoyed the character of Brick and his caustic sense of humour.

4 1/2 Stars, so rounded up!

Personally, I liked it. The character's progress during the book was noticeable, the writing itself was good, as was the grammar and the basic premise holds up very well. Definitely one of the better Sci-Fi Litrpgs so far!

A interesting book.

I enjoyed the book as it out a slightly different twist on the it's now a rpg world. The MC is fun to read about and the world building is starting to get me intrigued.

Still reeling from the loss of his grandfather, Jake has drowned his sorrows in whatever drink he's able to find. An unexpected jaunt into his grandfather's basement sends him smack-dab into the middle of an abandoned space station. To make matters worse, he's not alone. There are feral beings intent on taking a chunk or two out of him. Unwilling to sit on the sidelines in the hopes of being rescued, he takes matters into his own hands. One way or another, he'll make his way back home.

A refreshing start to this series, we meet Jake, a man who's full of pain and heartache for the loss of a loved one. In his mind, he's better off drowning his sorrows with a bottle. It helps him forget about what's happened.

In truth, a lot of people do this in real life. It's a crutch for them, one that has unexpected consequences in the long run. Not only for themselves, but also for their friends and loved ones. I like the fact that the author keeps things real within the book itself. Yes, it's science fiction with LitRPG elements, but it's also a slice of what people do when presented with tough situations.

Inheritance is one of those books that pits the question, 'What if?' What happens if you suddenly find yourself in a place far from home? Would you settle for the situation at hand? Or would you do everything possible to find your way out of the situation you now find yourself in?

This is what Jake does. His resilience takes a front seat whenever it comes to finding a solution to his current problem. What lies on the horizon for him remains to be seen. Hopefully, he'll be able to set all wrongs to right when the time comes. We shall see!

Fabulous

Combining LitRPG and space sci-fi you have a story that rocks. A good progression from start to finish, though when I got to the end I just wanted to keep going.

That’s a good thing.

I knocked off a star for use of obscenity. Yes, I know that seems prudish of me but I’m consistent in my reviews. No, there is no reason to use the F word in a story.

Other than that, a great read. Get it

4 Searching For Jesus Stars

Inheritance is the first installment in the LitRPG space adventure series The Last Enclave by Morgan Cole.

A different take on my usual LitRPG reads, taking into account the sci-fi aspect. It really cool to see these two genres incorporated together. The player interfaces RPG’s are known for fit really well into the sci-fi theme, almost more so than in fantasy literature.

Character:
Lots of growth. Not only in emotional and mental capacities but in actual body physiology. And a mite of an inappropriate attachment to his life saving AI named Brick.

Plot:
Simple. Clear out the space station of the invading Ferals. Repair all damaged cores and other vital functions. Find out what happened to his grandfather, Mattias, that led to his disappearance.

All things Mattias still pretty open-ended.

World:
Getting weirder. Omnipotent AIs, out to exterminate all biological beings. Freaky and gross monsters of varying types and squishy-ness. As if this time only one alien species introduced, the Horgrim.

Hmm government conspiracy or nah?

I'm afraid this book just didn't work for me... I don't believe the writer understood exactly who his target audience was...
The story started out good enough, but as soon as our MainCharacter "fell into the Game" it only went downhill. Jake is saddled down with an AI (Brick) in his head talking down to him (insert word: Lecture) initially I hadn't realized the the book was geared for a substantially younger audience (my fault), but that said, I don't think that a kid in the target-age-bracket would be able to hack all the overly long lecturing explanations, in addition to which, there's a distinct lack of gaming elements in the novel! Not even Hal Rayle could save this book! Hal is great and I found that he can really let'er rip during the fight scenes, and those scenes were the best part of the book! The "foley guy" working on the sound effects, does a great job too, not over powering the narrative performance, but adding an interesting layer to the overall effect!
I can tell that a lot of loving care went into this audio book, I just wish that it had worked out for me!

A very well done LiTRPG

First up I want to say that the book is solidly written and edited, none of the normal litrpg sloppy construction and terrible gramma that plagues the genre.

Secondly Jake is actually a real character with consistent drives and ideas who reacts to what's happening around him and to him in believable ways, which is a welcome change of pace from a lot of litrpg, Jake even grows as a person over the course of the story.

The story itself is a love letter to science fiction games where the protag is stuck in a base of some kind and has to fight and repair their way to safety, it uses all the tropes and cliches but uses them well in an engaging way that while not original is a lot of fun.

I'm am very much looking forward to reading the second book in the series.

I’ve had a real itch for sci fi LitRPG and I was really hoping this would satisfy that. Unfortunately, it didn’t.

It’s starts off great and I think it had a lot of potential, but something seems to drag it down along the way. The action got old and repetitive very fast and so did the dialogue, seemed to be more or the same. It could be that there doesn’t seem to be any noticeable growth along the way. He learns new abilities and his stats grow but he just a knows the knowledge, there’s nothing that seems hard or difficult about the journey.

I liked it enough to keep reading more and I like the potential.

Can't do it to myself, simple can't.

It's a beta fulfillment wish novel with a good premise, but that's it.
anything that could be potentially good ends there...

A bland copy pasta and a generic writing of any sci-fi dungeon crawler that exist everywhere.
Go read Repel Boarders or Earth Force for better characters. This one has none.

Book one

Mistakes: Very well edited.
If the station was open to hard vacuum, the Mc should not have survived entering the station.

Plot: After the disappearance of his grandfather and the death of his mother and father, our Mc finds a portal to a space station in the basement of his grandfather’s house.
Unfortunately the galaxy is under attack by rouge A.I using nano monsters. The fight for survival is on.

Characters: The Mc is rather fun to follow.
I found the book interesting enough to watch for the release of book two.

Interesting mixing of sci-fi stuff and litrpg.

There's not much science-fiction in litrpg. It is usually all fantasy, fantasy-themed and similar. Here, you have a standard science-fiction setting, and turning the technological artefacts into classic litrpg mechanics. This is a relatively good result - the mechanic fit well, the base construct system feels okay. Even if the explanations are slightly contrived, they don't feel odd.

The story itself is not too exotic, but it is helped a lot by the setting. Good nice little series, promising.

Great sci-fi

Overall I appreciated the setting of this , as not too many in the genre do sci-fi well. That said the MC does take to the situation with extraordinary ease. There is no comment where it seemed that he really had to process being suddenly not on earth, but that is a minor consideration. I enjoy the concept and execution of the world building and really look forward to where this goes.

Surprisingly good.

Just venturing into these LitRPG books. Didn't hate it a bit. I'll give the second a read. There were some cheesy lines. I'm willing to accept a small amount of cheese if the plot is decent. The monsters were cool. The tech was interesting. The girl wasn't a sex object😄. The hero was just a guy making the best of the crazy he fell into. I like a story where I can explore a new world with the characters.

Good space litrpg fun

Awesome story and good start to new series. Read almost strait through and enjoyed it all. Litrpg and base building and probably empire of sorts in future makes for yay fun. MC, Jake, is a good homest person who is tossed into some deep kimchee. He makes the best and expands his base. It seems however that the storm is just kicking off so more hard battling in the future. Off to read book 2

Very Good

This was defeated a very good LitRPG. I’ve read so many in the past few months that I thought I was burned out, I wasn’t able to read more than half of any novel I tried. Finally, I gave this a shot and I am proud that I did.

Maybe it was the Sci-fi part that allowed me to keep reading, I don’t know, but it was fun. Jake isn’t too bad of a character so far, I’ll see how he changes in the next book.

Fun

Young idiot finds a door to a space station and starts the life of a super hero. He must rebuild and improve the station. Then rescue a ship and if he has time discover what’s going on. It’s a fun fast paced romp that doesn’t take itself too seriously and was quite fun to read. Enjoy.

Well folks, if you're a scifi fan, and an LitRPG fan, I doubt you'll find better than this book right here. This is the gold standard against which all other scifi LitRPG should be measured. Fantastic, and highly recommended. No scifi fan should be without this book in their collection, LitRPG fan or not.

Very good space litrpg and sci-fi

Really good entry in the genre. It’s good sci-fi if you’re not into litrpg and very good litrpg if you like that. Lots of action, well written, very few errors. It has good characters and very, very good worldbuilding.

I blew threw it in a day because I was hooked. Give it a read!

Remarkably similar...

Remarkably similar to "First of my kind" series by Marc Stevens right down to the four armed female. However, I don't root for this hero as I do in Marc Stevens series. This guy seems to be only interested in helping himself out first, others if he has the time. Overall not much of a hero to root for.

Action packed, well written space litrpg

Interesting characters backed by unique and in depth world building. Could use more stats in litrpg but that would detract from pacing of the book. Good base building but would have been nice to see more detail and not just skipped the rest of the features that reclaiming got the Mc.

Damn good

I've had this book on my list for a little while now and hadn't taken the time to read it. I'm sorry that I didn't, this story is well written, has a nicely fleshed out storyline, and the technology in it is really freaking cool. I'm really looking forward to the next one in the series.

A Bit of Fun

I never was massively into RPG though I sampled/played several in my younger days when they first got traction in the community. This was a refreshing and fun look at how some games play out, complete with tasks and rewards, and a basic storyline. It was an enjoyable experience.

Great book for a Space style LitRPG, Hal Rayle did a awesome job with the added sound effects and the VA work. Love to see more of that in the future. I do think that Jake needs a little help from the author in the imagination department when building things, defending location or any Military knowledge.

I look forward to the next installment.

Good read

The story was a bit slow in spots. The lack of another actual person for around 60% of the book didnt help. But it keeps you interested and is a nice new take on a space adventure. At least for me.
