Kiss of Heat

Rate this book
They've waited a decade to come together. Long years filled with unbearable pain and soul-wrenching torment that have changed them both and left wounds that have laid their souls bare. Wounds that stand one chance of healing – if only they could stop fighting each other long enough for the truth to work its healing balm.

Kane, a relentless warrior, lost more than his heart to Sherra in a night of mating passion that marked them both for life. But news of her death ripped his soul apart. For years he has fought to avenge the death of the woman he loved more than his own life, by revealing the deceit and cruelty of the Council that created the Breeds.

But Sherra didn't die, and now amid the rapidly escalating violence against the Feline Breeds, Kane and Sherra learn that there's more to mating than just the "heat," just as there's more to love than just the sex…

Breeds 4
Feline Breeds 3
Location: Virginia Mountains – Feline Breeds’ base
Featured Couple: Kane (Human) & Sherra (Snow Leopard)

This is the first Breeds’ book that features the story of a female Breed and a human male.
We also find out that there have been breeds that have been suffering from mating heat before the term was acknowledged and before the length of its effects was known (i.e. lasts for forever!).

Kane and Sherra have a history together. Kane was a soldier, when Sherra was nothing more than a laboratory animal in a lab. One night of passion between them several years ago, and a misunderstanding (about Sherra’s supposedly death) have created unbearable pain to both of them. Kane thought that he had lost the only female he ever truly wanted. Sherra thought that Kane took advantage of her and then abandoned her.

And then they meet again. And Sherra is not an experiment anymore, but now she is free and important.

Well, Sherra is one of the least favorite female Breeds for the series fans. In the book she is constantly pushing away Kane and arguing with him. She is bitter, hostile and hurt.

The thing is that I completely understand her behavior. Female Breeds have suffered much more than male breeds in the labs. They have been raped, experienced miscarriages etc. It is a normal thing, that they don’t trust males, especially humans.

Sherra has also -on top of this- experienced betrayal and she is in constant pain for more than 10 years because her mate was not with her.

Besides the story of Kane and Sherra, several other characters are introduced:

- Jonas (Lion's Heat) is also brought in this book.
- Dawn and Seth (Dawn's Awakening) have also their first scenes together. Dawn is another female breed who is not friendly with her potential mate.

“Kiss of Heat” and previous book “Elizabeth's Wolf” books’ time frames have a collision somewhat. Cassie has a fondness for Kane and shows up as a naughty child.

Hot, Hot, Hot!

Good story with very sexy romance. The hero Kane, is a human alpha male, former Special Forces Military man and all around bad ass. While the Heroine is basically his counterpart of the Feline breed. Sherra is a weapons specialist, she is handy at detecting and diffusing bombs, but also she is damaged inside from being tested on when she was brought up in the Lab.

That is where Sherra and Kane first met and became Mates. He had infiltrated the Lab and the Doctors had used him as a tool on Sherra to have sex with her to see if breeding in captivity would be possible. After they spent a night together he was supposedly murdered by another breed, Dayan, but he dug himself out of the grave and escaped. Though he was in the hospital for months afterward.

In the meantime, Sherra lost the baby and was raped in captivity until Callan saved her when the Lab was destroyed. She thought that Kane left her there and Kane thought she died when the Lab was destroyed. It wasn’t until book 1 when Kane’s sister Merinus and Callan became mates that Sherra and Kane found each other again. The story is extremely compelling. They are going through the same sort of mating frenzy that Callan and Merinus went through in book 1. Which makes it very steamy. I give this a heat index of 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 out of five!

"3.5 stars" Now that I've read four of Lora Leigh's books, I've come to the conclusion that in order to truly enjoy them, one has to leave their brain at the door and not think about the plots too much. Unfortunately, being the cerebral person that I am, that can be very difficult, and I end up finding annoying discrepancies and worse yet, huge plot holes. The author gave just enough backstory on Kane and Sherra in the two previous Feline Breeds books, Tempting the Beast and The Man Within, to really whet my appetite for more. I desperately wanted to know exactly how it was that Kane and Sherra met while she was in the lab, and why she was able to accept him as her lover (and mate) after the traumatic experience of numerous rapes. I also wanted to know how it was that Kane escaped and why he wasn't able to take Sherra with him when he did, but alas, my questions were not to be answered by reading Kiss of Heat. In fact, I didn't really learn anything new about Kane and Sherra that hadn't already been told in the previous novels. I even wondered if I was forgetting some details and went back to skim those two books to no avail, so I guess I was meant to simply accept their relationship for what it was and leave it at that, which as I've already mentioned, is easier said than done. For some reason, Lora Leigh decided to begin Kiss of Heat with a prologue that was basically a re-written and expanded version of a scene straight out of Tempting the Beast when I thought it would have been more effective to take readers back even further to Kane and Sherra's meeting in the lab.

Even though, I badly wanted more character development for Kane and Sherra, they were still fairly likable characters. I can't say that I had been drawn to Kane very much in the previous books, because he was portrayed as an extreme alpha who was every bit as dominant as some of the Breed men, and he started this book with that same intense personality. At first, he was still a bit too much for me to take, but as the story progressed, he slowly started to lighten up. When he showed some vulnerability over Sherra's inability to open her heart to him again, and then at the end, when he was literally brought to his knees by his love for her, I couldn't help but like him to some extent. I deeply sympathized with Sherra over the torture she experienced in the Breed laboratories years ago (although exactly how many years ago is highly in question as it was seven in Tempting the Beast and eleven in Kiss of Heat). I understood why she initially fought her desire for Kane even though she was in the throes of a painful mating heat. She was simply trying to protect her heart from being broken again and was also trying to protect Kane since no one knew how a man would react to the Breed mating hormone. Still, I felt that Ms. Leigh could have expressed the emotional impact on both of these characters a little more deeply. As written, I felt like she was telling more than showing, so I never fully connected with Kane and Sherra in the way I had hoped.

Although I realize it's a Lora Leigh trademark, the fact that Kane and Sherra spent a lot of time sniping at and arguing with each other didn't help matters for me, and it wasn't just the hero and heroine who were engaging in this type of behavior either. Nearly everyone in the book, even the women, seemed constantly angry, with someone grunting, growling, yelling, snarling or participating in general alpha posturing every couple of paragraphs. I could definitely see how someone could get completely smashed if they played a drinking game while reading this book, and quite frankly it might have been more enjoyable that way.;-) I also couldn't help but roll my eyes at the idea of the hero walking around aroused nearly 24/7. I know it was the mating hormone causing it, but I couldn't stop myself from thinking about how with him being a normal human male, this would constitute a major medical issue. Not to mention, he didn't seem all that concerned about hiding it either. The happy little event at the end was just a bit too easy and convenient for my taste too.

With Kiss of Heat being primarily about Sherra going through the mating heat and trying to come to terms with Kane being back in her life and her permanent mate, lots of steamy love scenes were definitely expected and in that respect, I wasn't disappointed. Lora Leigh certainly knows how to write blistering hot love scenes that are sure to leave the reader in need of a cold shower or ready to “attack” their own mate, and this book was no exception. These parts helped to make the story more enjoyable and were a little sweet treat for my mind. However, with the previous books in the series, the red hot lovin' turned my brain sufficiently mushy enough to almost forget some of the other story weaknesses, but in this case, I think there were a few too many deficiencies for mere steam to overcome. I just found myself thinking about all missing pieces and questions I had that weren't being answered, rather than enjoying the heat.

Time line wise, Kiss of Heat takes place immediately following The Man Within, and simultaneously with the latter part of Elizabeth's Wolf. As such, the Breeds are still fighting against threats and attacks from outsiders at their compound and Cassie, the little Wolf Breed girl from Elizabeth's Wolf, is involved in the story. She is pretty much the same as before, but I have to say that I'm still slightly off-put by her occasionally manipulative nature. Callan and Merinus (Tempting the Beast) and Taber and Roni (The Man Within) also play significant roles, as do some of the characters who will get their own books in the future: Tanner (Tanner's Scheme), Mercury (Mercury's War), Cabal (Bengal's Heart), and Jonas (Lion's Heat). The latter two were introduced in this book, and Dawn and Seth (Dawn's Awakening) had their first scenes together. I'm intrigued by this pairing, but considering that Dawn experienced something similar to, if not worse than Sherra did in the labs, I felt like Seth's overtly sexual overtures toward Dawn were a little bit much. Still, I've heard that their book is one of the best in the series, so I'm looking forward to eventually reading it and hope that it has better character and plot development than Kiss of Heat did.

In spite of my frustrations with it, Kiss of Heat was a worthwhile read, but it left me with a half-full feeling, like the whole story simply wasn't told. Anyone who can shut their brain off long enough to overlook that will probably enjoy it much more than I did. Even though this was probably my least favorite book in the Breed series that I've read to date, I'm sure I'll continue on. The whole Breed concept is an intriguing, albeit rather underdeveloped one at this point, but if nothing else, I'll know that there'll be some “hot sex” to console me in the event of a disappointing plot.

Note: For the most part, the sexual content reads much like a super-steamy mainstream romance, but there is one brief moment of anal play with fingers. There is also a scene in which two characters (not the hero or heroine) are caught in the aftermath of a menage a trois.

Eleven years ago Kane Tyler infiltrated one of the government Breed labs and experienced a night of heated "mating frenzy" in the arms of Sherra, a beautiful Snow Leopard Breed...Afterward, Kane committed the ultimate mistake by leaving her behind as he went in search of help. Attacked by one of her Pride brothers, he was left fighting for his life for months, only to learn of the destruction of the lab upon his waking.

For the past eleven years he's lived only to avenge Sherra by bringing the Genetic Council to justice and allowing the Breeds the freedom they deserved, when one night Sherra reappears in his life, alive and well...Hating him.

When Kane failed to return all those years ago, Sherra was convinced he'd abandoned her, making him a perfect target for her hate, blaming him for everything she'd endured afterward, the death of their baby...Even now, after learning the truth about what happened, she still strives to hate him, but Kane is adamant to make her see the attraction between them is more than just the mating heat...But with new threats emerging from every corner, will she realized it in time?

Oh. My. God.

I hoped this book would be good, but it certainly exceeded all my expectations. Ms. Leigh has struck the perfect balance between plot and the EC required steam. We were plunged straight back in the the heart of the Breed mating heat, but unlike the first two books, here the sex scenes, though still abundant, didn't deter from the main plot, but complimented it, supporting the story, and propelled it forward. As the story progressed, the characters grew and developed, so did the steamy scenes change, from the initial savage release of two angry, resentful almost-strangers, to the loving joining of two people in love when all the conflicts were resolved and the past resentments were resolved.

The characterization was marvelously done. Kane remained true to himself, consistent with the image he's maintained since the first book, the little digs were still there, even more venomous at the beginning, dissolving into more playful banter as the story progressed. Ms. Leigh has truly created a wonderful character. He's strong, determined to protect everything and everyone he cares for (even if they don't want him to), capable of the deepest love and most seething anger, but when his control finally breaks, he's still gentle, still protective, more reproachful toward himself than anyone else...His feelings toward Sherra were almost palpable, utterly bitter-sweet in their intensity and desperation, and the reader could literally feel how her continual refusals bit into him. Yet, he still persevered, wanting to help, wanting to comfort her, make her happy...
Absolutely beautiful.

Sherra was also wonderfully portrayed. So stubborn to shake her silly, so utterly sad to cry with her, so resentful yet desperate to grasp at anything she could, so scared and scarred and in need of comfort and love I forgot every hurtful word she hurled at Kane at the same time I wanted to slap her for being such a stubborn hellcat. The inner scars ran deep, the protective barriers around her were too thick, to high, yet they literally crumbled with every scene, giving in under Kane's sensual, loving assault...But she still continued with her silly stubbornness until it was almost too late, until at last she was woman enough to admit at her failings and brave enough to take a huge leap of faith from the proverbial cliff.

Kane and Sherra's (love) story was such an emotional roller-coaster everything paled in comparison. The supporting cast, though quite a massive body count, did their "job" marvelously, keeping in the back, letting the two of them shine, occasionally providing a valuable insight or word of wisdom, though Sherra refused to listed to reason almost to the end.
Another hidden gem of this story were Seth and Dawn. I went to check the blurbs of the next books in the series and I got very, very giddy. *huge grin*

I'd definitely recommend this book to every single fan of paranormal romance, not just the Breed and Leigh fans, although you might consider reading the series from the beginning to get acquainted with "the Breed history", the characters and their relationship and interactions with each other. Though it could definitely be read as a standalone, the general details are explained, it could prove a little difficult to follow for a "novice".

A definite keeper if there was one.

Revisited this one recently and still can't stand Sherra. She comes across as so pathologically childish.

I just want to add, that I really loved Kane's quirky, irreverent character. Too bad he gets saddled with Sherra the self righteous nitwit. If I were Merinus, I would have boxed her ears for treating my brother so shabbily!

Arrogant human H is shocked when he discovers h is alive. He had left her behind, with a promise to return for her. She had been tortured, lost their child and after meeting him again, she's in heat. He feels the heat tot, but she wants to deny him. They deserved each other, no-one else would have them.

Kane is a warrior and protector to Sherra. When he thought she was dead he felt apart of himself had died. Sherra is a Feline Breed. She marked Kane on their one night together a decade ago. It will take a kiss to release the mating hormone and bond them for life.

Lora Leigh really takes this story in a different[enough:] direction[to keep the series interesting, and not just about loads of hot sex:]. You get to see how much cruelty is dealt to the Breeds by the Council. Sherra tries to let Kane use her for sex, for mating, with no emotional connection. But Kane would rather suffer physically than feel only partially connected to his mate.

I really like the layers of friends both human and Breed and the growth of knowing about the Council and other Breeds this novel provides. It makes it harder to get to other books! I want to read about nothing but the Breeds.

I was disappointed with this one and after high hopes too with this couple.
1. Not much of any side story besides the mating. I need more story line...
2. Just not feeling the love connection with these two - much like they didn't for each other most of the book. She had to be mean to him to protect him from the effects of the heat and after he's finally offered the chance to sleep over, he couldn't because she doesn't let him touch her - what he couldn't snuggle and break her in nicely
3. Fact Discrepancies - Roni's hair was blond now brown and he was carrying his mate upstairs to their room, huh, said it was on the bottom floor, plus a lot of wrong word usage or extra and repeat words
4. I am glad this couple finally worked it out!!!

This story is about Kane Tyler and Sherra. They had met 11 years before and she thought he'd left her in the labs and he thought she was dead. They meet again and it's very tense as Sherra has shut her emotions off while Kane is angry that she was alive and never contacted him. Very steamy scenes once it finally happened, and when it did it seemed to be every other page. It wasn't, it just seemed like it. I know I can't believe I'm saying this but the sex was almost overkill. I wish she would have put in more story. The story is facinating.

I know this is being picky, but there are quite a few typos in this book.

Love this book! Sherra is so hurt by her past that she guards her future with a gun. Kane is from her past but is definitely part of her future. After learning what happened to Sherra Kane is more determined than ever to make Sherra his mate forever. Sherra is holding on to her painful past so hard that she's not only killing herself but the possibilty of Kane healing her heart that has been seriously torn.

I recommend that you read this book but not before you read the first book Tempting the Beast. Callan Lyons is an animal! lol

*eyeroll* I don't think I have ever read a more eyeroll worthy book. The phrase "baby" was used so many times I think I hurt my eye muscles from rolling my eyes so many times. It was just friggen insane. The main characters were quite annoying and growled as much as the male lead said "baby." Also, if you are running out of ways to describe horniness, do not use the phrase, "My cock is on fire!" I will laugh for 10 minutes straight and consider putting it on a t-shirt.

This is the fourth book in Lora Leigh's Breed series. This time it's the heroine that is the Breed, and Sheera is quite the woman! This book is filled with emotions of betrayal and loss. Not a book for the fient of heart. A very good read!

OK. I've been waiting for this book. I glommed onto this series, tearing through each story, in the hopes of getting to the romance between Kane and Sherra. Lora Leigh has been dropping little scraps for us since the very first book. Unfortunately, after all of that anticipation, I can't say I was happy with the end result.

So the backstory on these two: Kane was the first man Sherra ever had sex with. She was locked up at the time and being studied for being a Breed. Kane was one of the soldiers. She fell in love with him and he promised to get her out... but he never did. Instead, she was raped by the guards and almost killed when she miscarried their baby. She had no idea he had been attacked and was nearly killed himself, rendering him unable to save her as he promised. She thought he used and betrayed her --and when she finally escaped her prison, she let him believe she was dead.

As this chapter of their story begins, both Kane and Sherra know the truth about what kept them apart. And they also realize that their night together turned them into mates. But Sherra was too young (?) to deliver the mating hormone in her kiss, so they aren't in the same kind of mating heat we saw with the couples in previous books. That doesn't mean she's not suffering, though. Once a year, she goes into heat and endures misery for a month until it passes. Kane wants to make their mating real. He wants to ease her suffering with sex. Sherra shoots him down at every turn.

I've read commentary from some readers that Sherra annoyed them in this book, because she is constantly turning her back on Kane, giving him the cold shoulder. My problem, however, was with Kane. He is a constant dick to her for three books and much of this fourth one. He mocks her and the other Breed members; he is domineering; and he does not pay enough respect to what she has been through. You can't bully someone into getting over a gang rape, or the loss of a baby, or the anguish of 10 years of believed betrayal. Yet that is what he tries to do.

Even worse, I feel like he forced himself on her. The victim of rape. In their first time together he say, "I can't force you." Then, just a couple of pages later, the scene plays out like this:

"Don't." She tried to jerk forward, a last weak protest before he could bend to her.

His eyes narrowed for long seconds, darkening further as she watched angry determination begin to build in his expression. He pushed her back until she reclined once again, moving closer to her, his cock aiming for the convulsing entrance of her pussy.

"For now. Just this for now." His voice was consumed with lust. "I'm not taking," he panted roughly.
"I'm giving. See, kitten, watch me give."

Her eyes dropped to her splayed thighs, widening as the head of his cock parted the slick lips of her pussy.

He later contemplates his actions.

He had forced her into accepting the mating heat. Had taken her kiss, knowing she would have no choice after the hormone was shared between them. Was he any better than the guards who had raped her in those labs?

This isn't the first time I took issue with consent in this series, but it is the first time where the heroine was already a rape victim.. And in the setup for the Dawn/ Seth relationship, it looks like more of the same could be on the horizon. This is a problem for me.

I also had a problem with inconsistencies with the world-building, like why Kane wasn't in the mating heat even after a shared kiss and sex. That's less than it took for the other couples. It left me confused --and had me re-reading scenes to make sure I understood what was going on.

And when all was said and done, I still feel like I should know more about what happened between Kane and Sherra all those years ago. Why did he come to her in the first place? Was he ordered to? Why would he take her virginity in front of those cameras? Did he know her before they slept together? Some flashbacks were in order. Or something.

I'm disappointed.

Rating: C-/D+

So, here it’s a bit different from previous books….heroine is a female snow leopard and hero an ex-Seal Ops, who happens to be Merinus Tyler’s brother….remember her from Taming of the Beast??
There is so much mating frenzies with hard-ons, arousals, clits, shafts….over so many pages…that after a while I skipped their sex encounters…because…basically it was one scene repeated over and over again…
“Kane, please.” She nearly screamed his name. She couldn’t bear the pitiless convulsions in her womb any longer. Her body was in demand and only one thing would or could ease it. “Please. Please, Kane. Fuck me. I’m begging you…”
“Kane. God. I can’t stand it…” Her legs were trapped by her own clothing, her knees held wide by his hands as he devoured the thick syrup of her response, drawing it into his mouth, licking and groaning against her, delving into the blistering depths of her pussy for more
She screamed his name as his tongue swiped through the bare slit of her cunt, a slow, appreciative lick as he hummed in pleasure.
“Fuck. Addictive,” he groaned. “I’ve never forgotten, Sherra, your sweet taste, your heat. I’ll die needing you…”

But that’s just my opinion.

Kane & Sherra drove me insane at times.
“And all you have is a hard-on,” she sneered. “Jack off. At least you can find some relief there, Kane. There will be no satisfaction to be found in my body.”
“I don’t think so, kitty,” he gritted out between clenched teeth as he came off the bed, stumbling for a second as his feet seemed to betray him. .
I can understand their tragic past and the pain they both endured in the labs……but there was so much hostility and bickering before they open up to each other and discover the real truth of what happened eleven years ago.
I like the plot development and the world building, where we learn more and more about the Breeds World. Also enjoyed seeing characters from the previous books again and getting a peep into how their lives are progressing.

So this book was better than Tempting the Beast or the Man Within. It had more interesting characters and developed more plotline within the overall story of the Breeds. I think I enjoyed it more too because the Breed in this case is a woman rather than a man and her mate is already a part of the Breed community so there was not all that time where the mate had to learn about the Breeds... we got more actual character and plot development instead of just the same thing over again.

That being said I thought the actual relationship between the two main characters (Sherra and Kane) was a little tragic. I like the intensity but the overall awfulness of how the Breeds were treated, particularly the women, is so cruel and violent it is not the easiest thing to embrace in a story.

I liked that in this one we get to see the beginnings of Dawn & Seth's story, and we are introduced to Jonas, who is a love-to-hate kind of character in all the later books.

Kiss of Heat was one of Lora Leigh's books that I wasn't extremely hot for, but I did like it enough to reread it which is more than I can say about some of Leigh's other books.

This one is a must read in the feline breed series because it tells Kane and Sherra's story- a couple who show up often in the other books.

What bothered me about the story was the constant hostility of Sherra, the heroine, toward Kane, the hero. I get that she had a tortured past, but I didn't buy the excuse for the constant bickering. It just got annoying, but I suppose there has to be conflict, so I got over it. (Perhaps I got over it more because nobody writes hot sex like Leigh!)

KOH is a 3 out of 5 for me simply because I felt relieved to finally have their complete story- not because I felt it was a great book.

This one really dragged for me. Perhaps I'm making them mistake my friends get on me about and am reading too many of these in a row? Friends of mine always tell me that if I start a series I need to take breaks in between otherwise they all become monotonous. Is that really true???

I can't help it, when I like something I get addicted and start devouring each book one after the other. Well this is only book 4 and for some reason I found it tedious. I'm actually disappointed because I was really looking forward to this book. You meet these characters in each book leading up to this one and I thought the back story made a great set up for this book.

Anyways, it fell waaaay short for me.

That said, I still downloaded book five on my kindle iphone app. ;) So yes, I will keep reading.

They found love in the most unlikely of places, in a Breeds testing lab. He was human, but she was one of the elusive feline breeds, a snow leopard to be exact. And, once their one night of passion was caught on tape the couple was torn apart by lies and deceit. He thought she was dead, and she thought that seducing her was part of the plan to breed her and had left her high and dry. Each never knowing the pain the other endured until after they met once again, eleven years later.

Kane has never stopped loving Sherra, even when he thought she was dead, but now that he’s found her once again, he can’t wrap his head around the hatred she harbors for him, even after finding out about the child she lost on the cold lab floor. They were both lied to, but she won’t listen to reason. But now her heat is upon her and he’s determined to claim his mate body and soul once and for all.

I have been looking forward to this book ever since it was revealed that Sherra was going into heat back in book #2, The Man Within. And, what can I say? This book was definitely worth the wait!

Up to this point I have struggled with this series. Leigh writes these great guys and then ruins them with their assholeyness as they try to assert their dominance on their mates (e.g. Dash, my heart still hurts from that one). And, I was really worried that Kane would meet that same fate. But I can’t tell you how excited I am to report that was not the case in this book! I have always liked Kane, and this novel just made me fall in love with him that much more!

Kane and Sherra’s story was so heart-wrenching how they met and were ripped apart by others. It was a long road back to one another, but one I was so glad to get to travel with them! This is the book I’ve been waiting for in the series! Leigh writing at her very best! The emotions are so powerful and just … wonderful!

“It was my baby, too.” His voice was husky, filled with regret, with pain. “But even more than that, Sherra, you’re my soul. You’re every breath I take. I would give my life to have saved you. I would give it now if it would mean I could go back and spare you this pain.” The dampness from his eyes soaked the swarthy complexion, lined with pain and regret. “I would do anything, everything, baby, to ease this pain for you.”
I did predict what was going to happen with Sherra fertility-wise, but that didn’t dampen my enjoyment of the story a single iota! I just hope there are more stories in the series that are this good!

This is a quick read and could easily be read in one sitting. I finished it in two, but that’s because I started it at 2am! I picked it up intending to read a chapter or two just to wind down before bed. But I just didn’t want to put it down! I was finally able to force it out of my hands (not an easy task I might add) at chapter eleven! But I got up early the next morning and finished it up! It was just so good! My favorite so far in the series! And, now we have a little tease for Dawn’s story as well and I seriously can. not. wait!

this was a heart-wrenching one for sure as Sherra hadn't properly healed from what she assumed was Kane's betrayal and abandonment of her at the time she needed him the most. Kane believed she was dead until she unexpectedly popped up in his sister's life six months prior. Neither one is at fault just some shitty circumstances and a bad hand dealt.

We were back in the thick of the pride here and the compound was getting infiltrated at every turn so a fair bit was going on. This moved the ongoing story forward and things are starting to heat up in regards to the genetics council.

This was another good addition to the wider series and though not my favourite to date as Sherra and Kane could be very frustrating. I'm not a big fan of the second chance trope either but I still found it mostly enjoyable.

After reading Tempting the Beast where I met Kane and Sherra, I decided to skip over the other books to read this one. I have been intrigued by this couple so much that I couldn't wait to read their own story.

Sherra and Kane's book is very readable. The tension is high, the sex is hot and the anguish is real. My only complaint is that it took a while for Sherra to finally accept Kane, but then the sniping and growling sort of made it fun. I really enjoyed Kane's name-calling, especially with the other Breed males. He is so bad-assed for such a human.

Now, after reading this book I just want to jump ahead and read Dawn and Seth's story. What is wrong with me? I usually want to read most series in order but when LEigh introduces a new couple I just want to read their story next.

** spoiler warning **

It was alright. I think LL's earlier Breed books are all that way for me. I really liked Kane. Nearly dying himself only to find out 11 years later that the woman he loved isn't really dead...that had to be a shock. I couldn't really buy into Sherra's reasoning for never telling him or contacting him. Kane spends the majority of this book trying to get Sherra to react to him, to be his again. Its only when he finally gives in to despair of it ever happening that she pulls her head out of her a$$ long enough to see how she has hurt him. To me it was too little, too late and I ended up skimming the end of the book. I know LL's later (current) Breed books are much better. I'm only continuing to read the older ones in order to play catch up on background stories.

I would say that my rating would be "really loved it". It was an emotional story I am a sucker for lost love and then finding that lost love again and making right. Sherra has always been a favorite character of mine she is tough and suffered much by the hands of the council. Kane is also a favorite of mine even though he is not Breed he can hold his own with the Breed and is not scared. Their story was great to read they had found each other under horrible circumstances but were forced apart now they have an opportunity to lay to rest those ghosts and take advantage of the second opportunity that life has given them. I was not disappointed with their story but I do want more overall story lines about the council and the many enemies that the Breed have encountered.

I really loved this one. In the other books I have to admit Kane was really rubbing me the wrong way but, it was because I didn't understand him. In this book I really got him. I also Loved Sherra she is my favorite though to be honest I don't like that everyone is so made at her for being hurt. Kane's sister is a bitch she has no concept of what it was like for them in that site all those years but anyway. Even though the love scenes were hot Kane in my opinion was a little selfish sexually. But it was great I love that they actually connected emotionally as well because it was just getting to be written porn. Overall it was a great read.

The first books have better stories than the newer ones. OH! If you don't really care for the breeds, read the first books, and you will fall in love with the characters! They are also more graphic, if you can handle it! I loved them! They give you the stories behind all of the characters, and they all over lap which is awesome too! I am copying this and putting it on all the first set of her books because they were all really great & I would say exactly the same about all of them.
