Compared to other e-sports danmei I've read, AWM: PUBG is probably the most underwhelming one when it comes to presenting its gaming element. A perfect and rather good start for people who'd love to dive into this genre, but if you do enjoy the gaming segment, I'd recommend you to read the author's other work, FOG 电竞 , which has a fair balance between the gaming scene and the relationship progress between the MCs.
Nonetheless, this served as a quite light-hearted read and I really liked the main couple's chemistry too. But despite having several charming characters, I got a feeling that we're still somehow emotionally detached to their whole journey as a team even when they had their best moments in between, which made my personal enjoynment for that specific aspect a bit lacking compared to how much I liked the slow and lovely relationship growth between MC and ML. I just wished their backstory were delved deeper because it took an important part to their present relationship, and it'd be so nice to have it being described a little bit more clearly rather than just being mentioned in a passing.
I'd definitely recommend this if you want to read esport in a danmei but wasn't quite proficient at understanding gaming term because among titles I've read so far, this has been the easiest one to read even when you're a complete noob when it comes to games (like me xD).
AWM have been on my list since last year but haven’t really gotten to reading it until the other day. I have been looking forward to it because it was written by the same author as FOG, and FOG was one of my favorite esports danmei novel.
The chapters count written on NovelUpdates was incorrect. There were a total of 86 chapters and 4 extras. Even though the main story was composed of 86 chapters, each chapters were short. I was able to finish reading the novel with just two days time.
The pace of the story was just as fast. The misunderstandings they had were swiftly cleared in less than half of the novel. The later issues they had were quite easily dealt with, with no heavy tones accentuated.
I was curious with how their feelings started to develop because the story started off with an ex-lovers troupe. They already like each other right from the start of the story. I was hoping for a flashback somewhere in between the novel but there wasn’t any. Their past were just subtly mentioned instead.
The novel was written in a summarized way with less details and several fade to black parts that left me confused on what actually transpired behind the scenes. And with how shameless the ML was, I couldn’t properly differentiate which lines of his were jokes and which ones were real. The way the author wrote it made me, as a reader, feel hungry for more details. I got a lot of questions left in my head, but I guess they can only be left unanswered now. The shamelessness of the ML also made me thirsty enough to beg for an uncensored version of the novel.
Although I enjoyed the story, it was a bit lacking. What’s more, the main story ended abruptly, leaving the readers to imagine the ending themselves. That ending left me hanging because I also wanted to know the ending the author would choose. But the last extra was able to fully give a proper closure with a sweet ending, and that was enough to make me smile. The innocence of the MC was just too adorable!
It was a good read with a couple of humorous lines that kept me entertained, but it was not enough for me to go crazy over it so I’m giving this three stars.
In terms of enjoyment, it was entertaining enough to keep me reading through to the end. My biggest issue with regards to the plot is that it lacked a bit of depth; there are some particular heavy scenes that, in my opinion, were brushed over too quickly and not fleshed out enough for me to actually care that they even happened. The pacing was too fast for particular plot points that should've definitely been fleshed out more, and there are a lot of plot points where the author tells you something happened instead of just showing you (sort of like a flashback or fade to black).
Cute e-sports story but the romance definitely takes a while to ramp up.
The story follows Qi Zui, captain of a professional PUBG team called HOG (short for Hands of God). He had a brief month-long relationship with a younger player called Yu Yang at a training camp a year ago, but they broke it off when QZ thought he read the signs wrong and YY didn't actually like him. Fast forward one year, Yu Yang actually joins the trainee team for HOG and the two of them come into contact again.
**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**
I have some doubts whether their "relationship" at the previous training camp can even be considered a real relationship, since they didn't actually do anything couple-like, not even holding hands. It was described in very vague terms, but honestly it sounded like a mutual crush more than anything else.
When YY first joins HOG, there are still some misunderstandings about what happened previously, but QZ eventually realizes the truth that YY didn't reject him physically because of repulsion, but because he has issues with intimate contact stemming from childhood abuse. Because of these issues, the romance is a very slow burn. They recognize that they have feelings for each other, but it takes a while for them to get together and act on the feelings. It felt a bit ridiculous to me that they each got the other's game ID tattooed on their bodies before officially getting together.
The story itself wasn't bad, but I did think HOG had a pretty easy time of it overall in the playoffs and competitions. When Qi Zui was there, they easily crushed the competition and won first place. After he retired and YY stepped up, there was some uncertainty there, but the team still managed to scrape by in the playoffs and make it to the world championships. And by that point, QZ had gotten his surgery done and was mostly recovered so he could play again on the team, helping them to yet another first place finish. It would've been nice to see the team fall lower in competitions rather than losing out only on the business end with sponsors and getting sold, so that when they rise up again, it feels like a triumphant return of the champions.
Overall this was a quick and enjoyable read, but I don't think I'll be coming back to this book.
Not gonna lie, im very disappointed with this one. Those years in quest of honour mine and FOG are my favorites. Those two are very funny, witty, and superb. And this one lacks all those three.
Putting this on hold because the xenophobia makes me uncomfortable. Suddenly this book is political because of how much the author trashes Korean. If it's the author's way to make MC more relatable or dimensional, then she can keep it. There are so many weakness in the world and she just really need to choose this one for her character.
In FOG, they have these dudes from Germany as the assholes, but also their ex CEO was an asshole. So like, there was a valid reason why the main characters hated those (highly likely) white men so much. But in this one, there's nothing. The author painted the Koreans as the bad guys and calling it a day.

I adored the couple in this book they had an adorable dynamic. The involvements of fan forums and stream chats in the book made it feel like you were really following actual streamers and part of the action. For an esports books the competition scenes had great build up and tension. The author did an amazing job explaining just enough of the gameplay to not have it be boring but enough to show the character's progress and style.

dnf for now on chapter 50 it’s not bad, i’m just bored which is disappointing bc i heard so many good things about this novel 💔 i’ll probably continue reading this in a few months bc it’s not hard to get back into since it’s not information overload type of thing.
read this recently but did not finish. this author writes great dynamics but i personally kind of lose interest by about 60-70% because the story becomes a bit predictable.
the cp was mostly meh and i didn't really enjoy their romance (?) but as expected esports novels are the best they're all so entertaining despite their flaws
I love esports articles. This book has both an exciting arena and a romantic love line. Let's take a look at Yu Yang, who is domineering on the field but soft in private.
Not too bad read, but in my opinion is a bit underwhelming as compared to other esports novel. :/ it isn't terrible, but it doesn't really make me wanna re-read it that badly.
For an early e-sport genre reading for myself, this book is quite interesting. The element of gaming especially about PUBG makes me hype for more digging. I don;t really understand most of irl PUBG rule should be, but this book explain it way more fun. Its very fun-reading. The competition part is always my favorite, because it showed up the tension more. The hardwork between charas are truly heart-touching. I love their interaction.
The love-interaction between main cp are mostly fluff! You got a lot of dog-food from them. The shyness of ML (yes ML is shou) makes me want to hug and protect him badly. And there is the MC who act very protective bf but at the same time kinda bully (which input more moe moe part for this book). Outside the real character among them, as a professional gamer they were both very powerful and talented. Honestly, Yu Yang (ML) is way surprised me because his irl character is kind of opposite of his gamers aura. He is so baddass, he can kill you right away (with his AWM (?)). He has same level like his Qi Zui (MC) who way more senior than him.
At the same time, Yu Yang is also a fragile chara. This is what the next paragraph i want to talk about. The angst input here isn't part that could underestimated even the book gave you most fluffiness. The fact about Yu Yang has trauma and anxiety disorder and the background of how this happen and how to prevent the worst thing which effected his gamers work. Qi Zhui also not the perfect one, he struggle more from the retiring and sort of. The group drama, and many things. You will find good amount angst for it.
The book itself is such a light and hard reading to begin or searching for more e-sport. Since this book also very well-known, you will not regret to banging it. But i kinda force to read until the end because the MTL , so i kinda sorry to give 4 score for this. I couldnt catch up the chemistry more everytime i do MTL haha.
This book about homosexuality, is about two rebellious teenagers regardless of home opposition, to play video games, but one of the father of a teenager against the teenager to play video games, in the young children regardless of the teenager, often play young, finally father is not in charge of the teenager, two teenagers also because of the same character hobby toward love I think this book is an interesting book, I think love has no gender, homosexuality is not wrong
tbh this book kinda trashy but i love it eh like the qiyang dynamic is everything to me until today i still occasionally read awm fics on lofter <3 i especially love u yuyang u are the cutest
