A compendium of crafting inspiration and instruction from the creators of ABC’s competition series Making It—featuring twenty-five projects. With the all-star duo of Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman leading the way with puns, advice, and good vibes, Making It became the competition series we didn’t know we needed, stealing our hearts and encouraging our most creative ideas. Now the show’s creators are at it again with this in-depth looks at some of the best DIY crafts from the show and inspired by the Makers themselves. Introductions to woodworking, fiber arts, paper crafts, and more will enable you to experiment and customize your own creations at home. And the projects are accessible to all skill levels, so you can get just as crafty as the Makers did. This crafting guide will inspire and energize you to DIY whatever you put your mind to.
Some of these crafts look fun and doable. I really wish that I had access to the recipe for the paper flower bouquet back when I had the resources to complete it, as it does look like something that I could have had fun with.
This is a fun guide, but the paperback may be more helpful than the digital version.
This is a fun read!
Modeled after some of the projects in the show and a few new projects there's a variety in this book. There are some patterns in the back, which is why having a paper copy might be helpful.
Some of the projects are pretty straightforward and some are a little more complicated. There's projects from making patches, mounting a unicorn head, and making your own paper plate pinata. Some of the instructions could be a bit clearer, but there are tips throughout the book.
I don't know the show at all but I do know Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman and I love most all things crafty. I was disappointed with this one because many of the projects are fairly useless. Felt food? Dream-Home Piggy Bank? A lot of these crafts can be done with kids but that's not what I was expecting. There's not a lot of polish here and I worry about the durability of many (Submarine Mailbox, Animal House). I do hope the Painted Tile Art project pops up in my brain next time I have a bathroom floor to retile, though. I think that's the level of craft I was looking for...
Like the TV show that this book is based on, there’s lots to enjoy here: a warm, funny, and inspiring introduction by Nick Offerman, short essays from selected makers that give you a peek at their creative philosophies, and beautifully photographed projects. However, I would’ve appreciated a greater emphasis on reusing materials or working with what people already have at home. I also wanted to hear from even more of the fabulous makers, but maybe there’s a second book in the works.
A good introduction to various crafts, including descriptions of basic craft supplies and instructions for projects made with paper, textiles, wood, and tiles. Geared towards the novice craftsperson, the projects are uncomplicated and the steps are explained well.
I admit that I skimmed this instead of reading it. I love this show, but none of the projects here were ones that I wanted to make. And I probably would have enjoyed the profiles of crafters, but I didn't have time to read them all.
Very sweet and uplifting craft guide designed to encourage and empower everyone to craft. I gave it three stars because I don’t plan on making any of the projects.
