THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.

In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.

After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.

I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!

But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.

After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.

I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!

Great read

This was a complex and suspenseful story that includes a twisted and evil mastermind that has visions of ruling the world. (Like he's the first to come up with that! Lol!) It's definitely a harrowing tale that's going to keep Hawk and crew on their toes for the foreseeable future.
I would recommend this book, series, and author.

What a mistake to go after POTUS.

Very good read. I love it but, after 19 books I'm biased. I think you'll love this story. he's nice is kidnapped by Obsdian, POTUS and the Russian president is taken to a secret place to assert power against them. Deep story loved the way it moves through.

Another great read

Another fast moving thriller that’s hard to put down. The team is at their best, removing obstacles and getting the job done. Ready to grab the next one to see what else they accomplish.

New character

This time a new character is introduced and Mia seems questionable. Things heat up as they race to prevent a billionaire from taking over the world. Hawk and Alex go into danger again and the action doesn’t stop.

Are we naive enough to think we are safe??

When reading this story you wonder how much could be true. All the devious plans that are played out are happening in the world. Can our uncover units be out there digging up info & putting an end to many plans of destruction?

Obsidian's leader revealed!

The realization of Obsidian's reach is frustrating to me as a reader. How can anyone stand up and defeat them! The reality and possibility of the plot being real is what makes this a great storyline! Well done, sir!

Close Calls

It seems the team lives on the edge of disaster...the only question is one of time. Do they have enough to save everyone or will they die trying. This one is gonna be close.

Amazing sequel

“Divide and Conquer” would make a great film. It has elements of James Bond and thrillers like “Patriot Games” rolled into one action packed book.

great

Another great book in the Brady Hawk series. There were some typos but nothing bad. I like how Patterson can write without using expletives

Wow—what a wild ride! As usual Brady, Alex and J. D. Blunt are up to their eyeballs in disasters. The main villain in this story is Falcon Sinclair, owner of Obsidian. He is evil incarnate and is intent on ruling the world at the expense of everyone else. J. D. Blunt becomes involved with Sinclair when his niece is kidnapped by Obsidian in order to entice President Young to join him for a demonstration of what he says is earth changing technology that will keep the world safe from attacks. Little does President Young know that Sinclair will involve him along with the Russian president in a bidding war involving missiles targeting both their countries. One thing after another happens in this story that literally keeps your head spinning! Brady and Alex are kidnapped, drugged, shot at (of course), captured numerous times and more. One of the best surprises is when Titus Black and Christina Shields show up in this story! This was such a great book. I love the characters and the story line. I easily give this book 5+ stars.

A former engineer Tyler who worked several covert jobs for Blunt until he disappeared four years ago. A message from Tyler to Blunt brought Alex and Hawk to extract him from this remote island. Plans went amiss and with gunfire, Alex and Hawk run to their boat and then found the pilot didn’t have the plane ready. Meanwhile Blount’s niece has been taken, angry of how they found that connection. Now awaiting orders from her tormentors
Letter to be delivered, Blunt’s connection to the President, this group wants results of their demands Alex and Hawk now with Blunt, one word Obsidian, and they knew who was behind it. The President will he have other plans, or will he give them the go ahead, to destroy Obsidian and the person behind it. Good flowing plot, with lives on the line, can they trust anyone else, or just their own team at Phoenix to carry out this mission.

This Brady Hawk story feels like it was yanked right out of present-day events. Along with nonstop action and intrigue there is an easy to hate villain who just happens to be richer than most countries on the globe. Of the Brady hawk books that I’ve read, this is my favorite, I think if this were the first I had read I would be a Brady Hawk fan, while his back story is nice from the earlier books, Divide and Conquer is a perfect stand alone story. I received an advance reader copy and chose to provide this review.

Divide and Conquer. R.J. Patterson

An extremely powerful Australian business man, one of the richest men in the world has fixed his sights, his end game in turning the Russian President and POTUS against each other. The highest bidder wins. The loser will have unstoppable carnage unleashed on their country. Brady Hawk appears to be The only individual along with his team member Alex, and a hacker named Mia who can stop him. Non stop action. Enjoyed immensely!!
