Rate this book
With GURPS, you can be anyone you wantan elf hero fighting for the forces of good, a shadowy femme fatale on a deep-cover mission, a futuristic swashbuckler carving up foes with a force sword in his hand and a beautiful woman by his side . . . or literally anything else! GURPS has been the premiere universal roleplaying game for almost two decades. The new Fourth Edition makes it even better!

GURPS Basic Set: Campaigns combines information from the Third Edition GURPS Basic Set and GURPS Compendium IIplus our new core setting, with infinite possibilities for timeline-hopping adventure! (You don't have to play in the core settingthere isn't some game-altering metaplotbut it's there if you want it.)

Good evening and welcome fellow Children of Chaos.

So to people who play this. Do you play this or do you just like roll fate dice while this book is open? How many of these rules do you use? I don't know how some people could keep this in their heads.

things like calculating speed on terrain. Doing multiplication in decimals is a sluggish process. I feel like it could very much bog down combat. The number of combat variants is insane. Also random hit locations, the bane of TTRPGs.

while I didn't care for the core book because this idea of "any game" systems is more like here is 5 different games crammed into a single book, this one has less of it, but is just filled to the brim with pointless granularity.

I'd love to play this because this is the last of the big TTRPG systems I haven't played yet, but I don't know if I could.

While technically you only need this book if you are going to GM, it is always a good idea to know the basic rules of the system. If you are going to play GURPS, I recommend getting both Basic books.
