My high school crush, my older brother’s best friend. Now Cass is back to crash my summer alone.
Shawn When I was a kid, I had the biggest crush on Cass. He was broody, with these beautiful eyes. A troublemaker who was infinitely cooler than I would ever be. Ten years later, I definitely didn’t expect to see him standing at the front door of my family’s house in the Kentucky woods, tatted up and even hotter. I was supposed to have the summer to myself and my geeky astronomy project, but my brother hired his old friend to do a massive carpentry project on the house. Just because Cass is straight doesn’t make it any easier to keep my eyes off him. He was always the man I wanted. I just never dared believe a couple opposites like us could attract.
I originally DNF this at 43% because literally nothing had happened yet, but then decided to pick it back up in the hopes that something would happen and hook me... Tbh, I should have left it as a DNF.
Don't get me wrong, Falling for the Geek is cute and fluffy, but forgettable
Ok, I liked the story, but I had some issues. I loved both Cass and Shawn but I just couldn’t quite feel their connection. I was happy for them and wanted them to be together, but it I just didn’t feel it like I do for most couples in romance books . I did feel their love at the end.
Also, there were so many grammatical errors. It was really distracting. Also I have to say. I know the author needs to set up the plot, but the first two chapters were so tedious I had to skim them . I didn’t care about all that stuff, I wanted to get to the story.
I took a chance on this new-to-me author because the blurb hit some of my favorite tropes, and I am so glad I did. This book is an easy story, lovely and loving, with a well-paced plot and well-rounded characters.
Told in dual POV, we get to really know both characters well. Getting inside their minds really helps flesh out the story, and seeing their motivations, thought processes, hopes, and desires works perfectly as we watch them both grow. Shawn is on a path of finding his confidence. He knows what he wants, but he’s also got a practical side that knows it might not be the right course. It doesn’t help that his brother is a loving voice in his ear, but Leo doesn’t understand that Shawn isn’t focused on a career to measure his success. Shawn is shy, and a geek, but so passionate and intelligent.
4.5 stars This is a new to me author, but when I read the blurb I couldn’t resist. Brother’s straight best friend? Yes please! Shawn is planning on spending the summer alone at his late grandma’s cottage, writing an astronomy book. He just finished a master’s degree. His love life is pretty much non existent and he is a virgin (yes!). He finds out at the last minute that his childhood crush, his brother’s best friend Cass, will be spending the summer doing renovations at the cottage.
Cass is a drummer who wants to have fun and pay the bills playing at small venues with a good band. When his band decides to make it big, he bails, and then has to watch from the sidelines as everyone thinks he can’t hack it. His girlfriend dumps him, and he jumps on the chance to do some carpentry work for his best friend Leo.
Cass has never been attracted to guys before, but after they start spending time together, he can’t stop thinking about Shawn. In a very sexual way. They soon start hooking up, but think it can’t go past the summer, their lives are so different.
I loved watching them discover their sexuality together. I loved watching them connect and have fun. And I loved how when they realize they have real feelings, they don’t freak out. Like normal people, they move forward. There is no drama, very low angst, it’s just two sweet beautiful guys falling in love and having incredible sex and lots of fun together. This book was exactly what I needed, and I can’t wait to see the rest of this series!
4.5. I really really enjoyed this one. This to me is the bestfriend's brother trope done right because I could see and feel the friendship between Leo and Cass and the love between Cass and Shawn. The two relationship were different but both felt genuine and Cass needed both people in his life for different reasons. Shawn was very cute and I also understood his love for Cass aside the physical attraction. This is low angst which I also love. The relationship was well paced, the progression felt organic. They communicated well and they were really building a life together as equals. My only very very small niggle was that . I would highly recommend and will definitely read Leo's story.
More like 3.25 stars. Cassian and Shawn were cute, but i think i was just expecting more. It took me way more time than i usually need to finish a book with this length. But it was enjoyable nonetheless. There were some sexy scenes too, which i liked. I'll probably read something more from the author.
Oh I love the "brother's best friend" trope and added to that, the geeky younger brother, it's a match made in heaven! Really loved this sweet story, I hadn't read anything by this author before but I'll def be picking up the next in the series...is it ready yet?
When Shawn's older brother, Leo informs him that his best friend, Cass, will be staying at their grandma's cottage for the summer, Leo's reaction isn't exactly um positive. Let's just say that he'd had the hugest crush on Cass and leave it at that. Having to spend a whole summer in close proximity to him, yeah...he's not sure he can handle that.
But as it turns out, Cass is just as sweet as he was before, and they end up getting to know each other in a really sweet way that actually turns into much more. Cass is very open to exploring his identity, and Shawn's more than happy to help him explore. But what about when Cass has to leave? Will their feelings be enough to keep Cass to stay?
Oh God I adored Cass and Shawn. Talk about both sweethearts, with serious chemistry! This is a very low angst, sweet story and the way they go from friends to more just feels right and natural.
This book exceeded my expectations completely. It was such a sweet read without the stereotypical misunderstandings and angst. The characters were open and honest with each other and I absolutely loved their dynamic. There were times that I expected the author one way but they went the other. All in all loved this book.
Its a sweet, comfort, low angst book, with a lovely geek who has a crush on his brother best friend since high-school, they get reunited when they are older and they click.
The main characters are so sweet, they both are trying to find their place in life and they find support, strength and understanding in each other, that gives them the push to pursue their dreams no matter what everyone says.
So yeah, it was candy sweet, and I'm on board with this series. ❤
Brother’s straight best friend is a weakness of mine. And this one really hit the mark for me. I loved that they weren’t your classic characters, but most of all I enjoyed that there wasn’t a lot of drama, cause it could have taken that route. I loved the sweetness, I loved how they built each other up. The ending was super sweet Writing was great, smexy was hawt, and the side characters were few.
I suppose this reading can be too non-conflictual for some, but it worked quite perfectly for me. It's a relief to follow characters that aren't on a perpetual banter-high and who wish to navigate through life by just being true to their calm selves. I think the author was quite capable of achieving the right tone for telling that story! Will def read the next one :)
First time reading this author even though her bodyguards themed series is in my wishlist.
I love the brother's best friend trope, so it's not weird that when I came along this title and read the serie's name I was in lol
Falling for the geek is not a mindblowing story, just an uncomplicated romance between two guys that haven't met in a long time and that when reuniting during the summary start checking each other with new eyes.
In my opinion, this is the perfect book to pick when you are in the mood for plain and pure romance, without too intense secondary plot lines, just two people falling in love when they least expected it.
I loved the setting of the story. Cass is a drummer who doesn't dream of being famous and rich, that's in fact what he doesn't want: he's happy with little gigs that let him make the music he loves and at the same time make a living.
But the best was the astronomy references. Shawn is an astronomy geek, he loves the stars and the universe and dreams of writing a book about the topic. But when the chance of work comes, he must decide between following his dreams or settling with a profitable but not that interesting job.
The romance it's cute and balanced. Not explosive but makes a perfect read. I loved how Cass and Shawn are with each other, liked how naturally everything works between them and how their relationship evolves little by little.
I'm intrigued by Leo, Shawn's older brother and Cass's best friend, and I'm guessing he will be the next main character. Can't wait for it. I particularly loved how Cass and Shawn come out to him, it was so funny I was laughing out loud.
Brother’s best straight friend.... yes yes yes!! I fucking love these types of books.
Cass was a super sweet really nice guy and I really enjoyed reading his POV. He was never freaked out about his feelings for Shawn and I like him all the more for that.
Shawn was a super cute nerdy guy and had a crush on Cass since he was in high school. I love that years later he gets the guy. They both really got each other too, like nobody else really ever had before. They were perfect.
The sex was pretty hot too but I kinda wanted more. But hey, I always want more sex, hah.
New to me author, I’ll definitely check out more of their works. This was a sweet story. I really liked both characters and that they developed their love over time. No angst and the epilogue was great.
I really liked this one. I loved that they were such a solid couple, even if they hadn't fully defined the relationship. I really loved the part astronomy played in their romance. It was sweet and unusual and I really loved it.
I got the sequel to this book first, so I was intending to read this before that one so I could enjoy it more. Well, I ended up forgetting the order and read that one first. I liked Cass and Shawn in that book, and almost didn’t read this because I already saw them together and didn’t feel the rush to know more. I ended up reading it anyway, though, and I was really glad I did.
Cass and Shawn were such sweet characters. Both of them had this really kind and thoughtful way about them, and they were such a great fit. I really enjoyed reading their story and seeing how they got together.
Shawn and Cass have a very lighthearted and sweet story. It's brother's best friend trope, with an adorable geeky guy who meets his high school crush again and is suddenly spending the summer with him. Both characters are really likeable, and although their connection feels a forced at times, I enjoyed both the plot and the romance and was definitely rooting for them to find their way to a very satisfying HEA.
Sometimes the timing has to be just right. Cass and Shawn were thrown together for a summer. Little did Cass know...that Shawn had a huge crush on him growing up. What came next...was each person discovering their true feelings. It is a wonderful story of love and acceptance.
This was sexy and sweet. Sometimes taking a chance leads to everything you ever wanted. LOVED the HEA too!! ♥️♥️
Shawn has just graduated with his masters degree in astronomy and instead of taking a job right out of school, he decides to go to his family's summer home in the country for peace and quiet in order to hopefully write a book on astronomy. The country is the perfect place to set up his telescope to watch the stars by night and write by day. However, who shows up the very first night, but his older brother's best friend Cass, a (straight) tatted up bad boy drummer in a band, who Shawn has had a crush on for like 10 years or so. Cass just quit his band and broke up with his girlfriend so his best buddy hired him to work on his family's summer home for maintenance and restoration of a guest house. Shawn is adorable geeky and awkward and shy but he knows Cass pretty well from the past so they become friends again in short time. However Shawn doesn't get the peace and quiet he was hoping for when Cass starts drumming during the day in between construction with power equipment and banging around with hammers. They are complete opposites but Cass starts to notice how cute Shawn is and when he does it doesn't freak him out at all. He is attracted to Shawn and they start a relationship. Shawn of course thinks it will just be an experimental summer for Cass and at the end of it they'll go their separate ways. He's willing to be Cass's first gay relationship because he thinks having anything with Cass is better than nothing. There is no real angst in this story and the sexy times are often and fun and romantic as well. These guys are great together. The brother had warned his bestie off of Shawn which was kind of out of left field since he believed his friend was straight anyway. I think this was a bit of a missed opportunity because when the brother finds out at the end everything is just hunky dorey ok. Could have been played for some angst just to shake things up a bit, but whatever. I loved these guys and I loved their story.
This series is a combination of binge-reading R. Cayden's other work as well as another recommendation from an Amazon email. The series: His Best Friend's Brother. The first book is titled "Falling For The Geek".
["My high school crush, my older brother’s best friend. Now Cass is back to crash my summer alone.

I've always been obsessed with the stars, too, but this, oh my god. Shawn made a whole career out of it. You go, babe. :D
Another amazingly cheesy and fabulously romantic trope: falling for your brother's best friend (nearly the best-friends-to-lovers trope but altered with some forbidden romance added in). And this book was soooooo good! They encouraged each other to go for what they want and what they need, not what others thought might be best (even before they started sharing their afternoons together...in bed). #fallingforthegeek #forbiddenfriend #thegeeknextdoor #sharedsecrets #fallingfortrouble #hisbestfriendsbrother #hisbestfriendsbrotherseries #rcayden #books #queerbooks #queererotica #bodicerippers #bookstagram #bookphotography #ilovebooks
Cayden has once again delivered a cute story with lovable characters and good tension.
Falling for the Geek features Shawn, a geeky astronomy graduate, and Cass, a drummer, and the ever lovely forced proximity trope. After graduating with his master's degree, Shawn decides to summer at his grandmother's old home in the Appalachians in Kentucky. He thinks he'll be alone, working on his pet project - a book about astronomy that lets people without an astronomy degree fall in love with the Cosmos the way he always has.
But that changes when his older brother, Leo, calls to let him know that he'd forgotten that Shawn would be there and he'd told his best friend from high school, Cass, that he could stay there for the summer while fixes up their deceased grandmother's old studio. Shawn doesn't even have time to get dressed before Cass shows up at the door. We learn early that Cass was Shawn's protector in high school and that Shawn had a massive crush on him because of it.
Shawn and Cass have pretty good chemistry and its a joy reading their journey as they get to know one another over the summer. By the time they start to hook up, it feels like a natural progression. The book is pretty low angst, especially given the fact that until reconnecting with Shawn, Cass had never once questioned his sexuality.
This is a nice quick and enjoyable read about finding love when you're not looking for it.
** ARC PROVIDED BY GAY ROMANCE REVIEWS AS PART OF A BOX SET AND THIS IS MY GENUINE FEEDBACK **
This was such an easy romance to fall in love with and enjoy! It's very low angst, GFY/bi awakening, brother's best friend. Lot's to enjoy! Cass is straight and his brother's best friend so of course Shaun crushed on him and ten years apart has not lessened that at all. Now they have to spend several months at his family's cabin, what could go wrong? Shaun is his best friend's younger brother, just as adorable and geeky as the last time he saw him. The cabin is the perfect place for him to work while he takes the time to reset and make plans for his future. There's a real ease and sense of comfort as the two men learn to be around each other again, developing a friendship all of their own. Everything that happens feels like a natural progression - Cass's attraction to Shaun, the spark and heat that they share, and the feelings that develop. I loved how they buoyed each other, allowing them to be themselves and talk about what they actually wanted from life without the pressures normally put upon them by work/academics/friends/family. The setting is beautiful and definitely helpful when it comes to Shaun's stargazing, a pastime that brings them together as they bond over the beauty that they see. I really enjoyed reading this. It was so easy to fall into the story and the relationship that grows between them, regardless of how skittish Shaun is to begin with. Definitely a recommended read for me. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
