I'm a huge fan of 4x games and naturally when I discovered 4x litrpg novels they immediately became a favorite of mine. I absolutely loved every bit of this one. Turn-based PVP was a nice surprise that I really enjoyed. While a lot of VR game novels struggle to keep my interest, this one grabbed it and kept it. The 4 hex aspect brought a fresh outlook on 4x that was refreshing. I can't wait to continue reading about Jaydens adventures and his ongoing battle against Bilda and his quest for Liliana.
Someone played a lot of civilization and age of empires and wrote a book about it. Sadly, I didn't find the story compelling. Too many cliches, too much plot convenience. Characters I didn't really care about and wouldn't want to even have a drink with. Did finish it, but won't continue the series.
The first 60% of the book was a very strong 5* page burner that I greatly enjoyed. As with some of the authors other series I found that it seemed to loose it's way but then finished well. So I will stick with the series but now it is not a must read right away. The town building is some of the best in litrpg and the MC is balanced easy to identify with.
The story is a somewhat familiar setting, but I thought the execution was fairly innovative and there are definitely some approaches that were new to me: turn based battle scenes, unexpected roles for race types.
Not a bad book, a litRPG that has a bit of a Settlers of Catan vibe, or Civ. The combat system is a bit like XCOM or Shadowrun video games. All in all, I dug the story, not smutty, but it didn't have the MC being a wet blanket.
The premise is different, but I'm really just not into it. Not sure why he made the pvp combat turn based. It's a neat attempt to harken back to the old final fantasy games, but it just comes across as awkward in print and practice.
It was an interesting read, and the concept has potential. I found that I had to read some sections twice in order to fully grasp what the author was trying to say.... Will I read the next book in the series? Probably yes.
Dropped at chapter 13. Possibly because I'm having a reading fatigue. The last three book I read before this also lackluster to me and I dropped it also.
Ember lane is a good author, I have never been disappointed when I get one of his books. It was an interesting premise and a fascinating world he has created.
First off I like the aspect of this book it's fun altogether unique litrpg without being Super super stat heavy. Second, the character cast is absolutely fantastic every character that was written-in added just a little something to the book to make it perfect all the way around. The MC was well-written while not being super overpowered but not abundantly week either was a huge Plus for me. Overall I greatly enjoyed the book however I will say this to me the change in POV and the rushed feeling towards the end end was a little bit of a let down. I wish the second book contains the shift in POV being that it was in this book it made the book have a sort of weird transition and definitely gave the book the Rushed feeling all that being said I will still be looking to check out the next book. special note if you've never read a book that Jack Voraces has narrated you're missing out the man is an absolute genius when it comes to doing different characters he truly give them a different personality from one to the other absolutely fantastic job.
This was definitely unexpected. I got this book in exchange for a review. Frankly, I was not expecting much, but I was wrong. The turn based PvP fighting was engrossing. I found myself cringing when protagonists would freeze after attacking, knowing that the damage was incoming but they wouldn't be able to do anything about it. The story got complex just as it started to get bland, and new characters quickly supplied new life to the plot. While staying light-hearted, the story presents characters with unexpected depth and more complex personalities than RPG characters tend to have.
The narration was on point. Voraces always infuses each character with a unique personality.
Decent number of stats, a bit of base building, some strategy, a good story, not a ton of IRL stuff, lots of fighting, and a unique world. Worth a read for sure.
