What do you get when you mix a legal thriller with a medical thriller and add a bit of romance and subtle Christian overtones? You get a fantastic novel,
LETHAL INTENT
, by Cara C. Putman that is set in northern Virginia.
Caroline Bragg feels her life is moving forward as she and Brandon Lancaster transition from friendship to courtship. She has also just landed a new job as legal counsel for Praecursoria, a research lab that is on the cutting edge with genetic therapies for leukemia treatments for young children. Brandon operates a group foster home for sibling family groups waiting for adoption. One of those children has leukemia and is a candidate for an experimental trial with Praecursoria. Unfortunately, the laws governing group foster homes have recently changed and he may lose the group home he has worked so hard to build.
The characters came to life for me in this book. They were compelling, had great depth, and faced real-world situations that tugged at the heart strings. Caroline and Brandon’s backstories made them feel real and made their actions and dynamics believable. The stakes were high for so many in this novel that it was definitely a page turner. I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster with the characters, experiencing highs and lows just as they did as events hurtled at them.
The writing style quickly pulled me into the novel and I connected with Caroline and Brandon as well as several other characters. The plot was suspenseful, but also heartbreaking, thought-provoking, and insightful at times. As the two story lines became entangled, it also showed the ethical dilemmas many face in the course of their lives. My only quibbles are that the antagonist was a little too easy to determine and I wish that there had been an epilogue that wrapped up a couple of items more cleanly.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and look forward to reading her Hidden Justice Series as well as her standalone novels. The author’s legal experience and her significant medical research into cutting edge scientific trials and FDA approval processes gave this book an authenticity and depth that many lack. It was also filled with lots of hope, warmth, love, friendship and romance against a backdrop of treachery, crimes, ethical dilemmas, arrogance, secrets and more. If you enjoy suspenseful legal and medical thrillers with a bit of romance, then I recommend that you check out this novel and see if you enjoy it as much as I did.

LETHAL INTENT by Cara C. Putnam is a new legal/medical romantic suspense mash-up. This book is a listed as a Christian romantic suspense, but it has only subtle references to belief and prayers and the romance subplot is what I call a cozy romance due to the fact that there are no sex scenes. The story is easily read as a standalone and only loosely tied to other female heroines in Ms. Putnam’s legal romantic suspense books.
Caroline Bragg has landed a new job as the legal counsel for a new medical start-up, Praecursoria. They are in FDA human testing for a cutting-edge genetic therapy, CAR T to save children with leukemia which has reoccurred or not responding to previous treatments. While learning the new technology for her job, people tied to the company begin to die in what are believed to be accidents, but Caroline receives an email from one of the dead that has her starting to investigate and places her in the sights of a killer who refuses to be stopped.
Brandon Lancaster is facing his own problems when the government changes the laws regarding is group foster home, Almost Home. As he works to come up with a new plan, his feelings for Caroline become deeper, but she has learned he is a major investor in Praecursoria and appears to be backing away. When Brandon needs Caroline the most will the secrets she keeps break them apart?
I loved the suspense in this story and was riveted to the pages. The legal questions of experimental technology, the ethics of having a loved one be a major investor in a company you work for and the large amount of money and potential profit involved in this type of company. The technology and legal aspects of the story were clearly written and did not slow the story. The twists and turns kept me guessing throughout.
Caroline and Brandon were both strong, intelligent and committed main characters and Ms. Putnam brought the intersections of their different problems together nicely. This is a couple just starting to commit and the romance is a cozy romance with no sex scenes even behind closed doors. I also enjoyed the scenes where Caroline turned to her friends for support and advice, who are characters from other books.
I highly recommend this Christian romantic suspense and author!

I’ve long been a fan of Cara Putman‘s writing, and her background as a lawyer brings her legal thrillers to life. Since I’m a former pharmacist and my husband worked in medical research with biotechnology companies, I was eager to read Lethal Intent. Cara nailed it! The intrigue and rivalries, the pressures between various divisions, the push and pull between patient care and scientific need, even the arguing over patents – all true to life! But of course, we don’t read fiction for an accurate description of the world of medical research! We read for story, and Lethal Intent keeps you flipping pages. Caroline is a sharp young lawyer with enough vulnerability to make her best friend material, and Brandon is an adorable big teddy-bear of a guy. Their romance is sweet, and the thriller is – thrilling! Grab a copy. You’ll be glad you did.

Lethal Intent is part of the Hidden Justice series where we meet several young women who met and became friends while in law school. Each new story pulls one back into the friendship developed over the years. They all live in DC and meet every month for a meal and fellowship. In this story, we read about Caroline Bragg and her friendship, and maybe more, with former professional football player Brandon Lancaster. Caroline is a sweet likable character who had a hard upbringing with a mother who was not the best role model and left Caroline with some fear issues. Brandon also had a bad upbringing when his parents died and his brother was put into the foster care system while Brandon stayed with different friends until college. He doesn't know where his brother is even now. Brandon is doing his part to make sure siblings put into the system stay together as much as possible. Caroline has a new job as attorney for a research company working with stem cells used to help cancer patients, in particular children. One of Brandon's foster children is sick with cancer and a patient in the research program. Someone in the company is not happy with his name missing from a patent and is retaliating, leaving dead coworkers that get in his path. Caroline is trying to make sure the company stays within the law and FDA requirements but things get dicey for her and those who try to help her. This is a suspenseful and edgy read that kept me engaged to the end. A great addition to the series of faith, love, and support of friends.

Lethal Intent was an intense roller coaster of a ride! Even though I knew everything would work out in the end, in the beginning, I felt as if I was in this new, confusing, anxiety-producing world of leukemia, CAR-T, you name it, it was a new world for me. I really felt as if I was riding right along with Caroline Bragg as she began her tenure at Praecursora as their Legal Counsel. I felt frustrated for her when she was trying to understand all the science behind what Preaecursoria was attempting to do to save lives. I will admit I didn't understand it all, but I was determined to go for the ride. And then there was Brandon Lancaster who was struggling to keep Almost Home afloat all the while date his best-friend Caroline, and he was trying to understand and be there for Caroline when she wasn't all that forthcoming, and he didn't know why she was holding back. It wasn't easy but nothing in life is, even fiction has its hard times. If I could describe Lethal Intent with one word, or maybe two it would be authentic and raw. I haven't read a novel with these vulnerabilities in a long time. Definitely worth your reading time. My gratitude to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson. All opinions are my own.

This legal thriller left me on the edge of my seat with every page! Author, Cara Putman, introduced me to a world of medical research and the scary reality of how far someone will go to find a cure. The twists and turns through the plot were balanced ever-so-tediously with the relationship between Caroline and Brandon. These characters bring real struggle to the story adding a level of emotion that left me anxious for them. Lethal Intent is the perfect combination of suspense and legal thriller highlighted with romantic interludes and meaningful message that will satisfy readers.

This one ran a little too close to home for me. There hasn’t been enough distance from WuVi yet, as it’s still ongoing in late 2021, so I’m not yet comfortable reading about similar things such as medical research trials in fictional stories – I get enough of that in the news, thanks. I did appreciate that this story was about finding a cure for cancer rather than a pandemic-type illness.
However, some of the medical research was similar to what I’ve been reading about WuVi treatments. The science of it was interesting, despite my not being fully comfortable with it. There was one comment about mouse DNA being included in a medicine within the story. That was disgusting, sure, but it made me wonder what other gross, mystery ingredients might be involved in creating modern-day medications. (I don’t really want to know, but it was interesting to think about for a few minutes. Sometimes, innocence really is bliss.)
The urgency, tension, and complex plot were rich throughout. The twists just kept coming! That, of course, kept me pretty riveted.
One thing I especially enjoyed was that the faith thread was well integrated into the story. It felt like an organic part of the events and leading character’s reactions and motivations.
The group foster homes for sibling groups were fantastic to feature. I loved Brandon’s heart for orphans and displaced youths. His compassion was well displayed in every chapter.
Something that confused me: If several of the characters (including the leading lady) were in the Hidden Justice series as well as Flight Risk, AND the author’s note specifically linked all five books as having been related… why would these books NOT be assigned and marketed as a five-book series instead of as a trilogy and two stand-alone books? The books do not stand alone. I’ve read all five, and they’re definitely thickly related to each other. I’m very glad I read them in order, and I would recommend they be read in order. I would have felt like I missed lots of good stuff about the recurring characters if I had not read them in order.

Putman's latest thriller focuses on drugs, drug companies, and the corporate race to get them to market even if all the rules and regulations haven't been met. Caroline Bragg is a lawyer who has begun working for a drug company to make sure they have met all the regulations in order to get their latest drug for juvenile leukemia on the market. But when Caroline realizes they are fast tracking it in order to get it on the market and playing with the rules, she begins to worry.
The characters in this story were so compelling. Caroline had every right to be concerned about the end run around rules that the drug company was taking. Her boyfriend Brandon was also concerned because one of the youngsters at his group foster home was fighting leukemia. The situations they both faced were so realistic and timely. Putman also depicted the role greed and misdeeds can play as drug companies try to out do one another. Scientific secrets and corporate espionage play a crucial role in today's society, and Putman gives her readers an excellent look at how it can all come about. Excellent suspense with riveting characters and numerous twists and turns.

This book will grab you and not let go until the final page is turned, and then it will linger long after.

Our young lawyer, Carolyn Bragg, seems excited to be entering a new job after the death of the judge she had been working for, now she is working at a research lab, one that is offering hope where there seems to be none.
She is now in a relationship with retired football star, Brandon Lancaster, who heart is filled with helping foster children. He is devoting his life to helping them with the hope of finding them new homes, but he has a thing for Carolyn.
When one of the deaths hit close to home with Brandon, you begin to feel that they are both in danger, and in the end you wonder whom will survive, and will the culprit be found? Why? You will quickly be turning the pages for answers!
Another great read, you don’t want to miss!

Romance, clean, contemporary; Suspense, murder, intrigue; Christian faith elements
Caroline and Brandon's developing relationship and friendship becomes complicated as Caroline's new job as legal counsel is in conflict of interest with Brandon's investment in the company. The compelling backstories of Brandon's work with children in foster care, and also Bethany's treatment by the medical group that Caroline works for made for compelling twists and turns in the plot of the story. Scientific secrets and corporate vendettas, along with an unscrupulous individual with no fear of taking lives as he sees fit made for a compelling and page turning read.
The romance between Brandon and Caroline sweetened the story as they figured out the how to make their relationship be the best it possibly could, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Their sweet, tender, and compelling romance, along with their back stories, made for a more human, and real part of this novel. Strong side characters and back story, along with the crimes committed and dilemma with the home for foster children made this a perfect read! Perfect for readers of suspense who enjoy a bit of romance in their reading. Their faith, and the faith of those at the home and elsewhere all apparent as they work through the difficulties both for the home, at work for Caroline and personally for them both.

Attorney Caroline Bragg is excited about how things are going in her life. She has a good relationship with her boyfriend and former pro football player Brandon Lancaster and she is about to start a new job with a cutting edge genetics company.
I loved that Caroline took wasn't swayed by scientists at her new company that thought her view of the law was too stringent. She was firm in her beliefs and didn't bend to the opinion of the non-lawyers at her new company.
Brandon has a heart of gold with his love for foster children and desire to keep siblings together. I would have liked to have known more about his younger brother.
Caroline and Brandon both had different challenges facing them throughout the novel. The story line was a good one. Their relationship didn't seem cemented or solid to me and the events in the novel didn't quite fully capture my interest. In this continuation of The Hidden Justice series, Caroline finally gets her story while the reader also gets to catch up with Hayden, Emilie, Jaime, and Savannah from the previous books. It can definitely be read as a stand alone, though becoming acquainted with Caroline's tightly-knit circle of friends prior to reading this book will increase the reader's appreciation. The plot moves at a good pace and is infused with cutting edge medical technology which becomes the basis for the suspense.
Caroline is a newly hired counsel for a medical research company and the reader learns about the fascinating world of patent law, FDA approval, and research protocols along with Caroline. Brandon is a former pro-football player running a group foster home specifically for siblings. The book opens with Caroline and Brandon already in a serious relationship, which is sorely tested and tried when one of Brandon's foster children becomes a subject in her company's trial. Things unravel quickly for both of them professionally and personally as the child gets sicker, Brandon's program is threatened by new laws, Caroline's days are filled with confusion, and several people tied to the research are targeted. There are glimpses into the villain's thoughts which add an interesting layer to the plot. The ending didn't tie up all loose ends, but felt realistic. If you are a fan of legal suspense with a dose of romance, you will definitely enjoy this book.

The Hidden Justice Series is new to me, and I enjoyed reading Lethal Intent by Cara C. Putnam.
I have always found legal/medical thrillers intriguing, and this one has a bit of romance, too. I did get confused at times with all the science, but I made it through okay. This story is a solid mix of ethically questionable practices, medical research, the machinations of the foster care system and legal ramifications. If you think this is a lot to process, well, it is. Because of the complexity and layers of issues, the plot is compelling, alarming, heartbreaking but also inspirational and insightful.
I am glad that the book is a good clean romance because that type of story is hard to find. Caroline and Brandon are well developed characters with real life qualities that draw the reader into the situation and lend authenticity to everything. Unfortunately, parts of the story seem too much like the horrors of the evening news and are a sad reminder of how cruel the world can be. Overall, I would recommend Lethal Intent to anyone looking for a thought provoking legal/medical thriller.

It takes a writer of Cara Putnam’s pedigree to pull off Lethal Intent’s intricate story of the cutthroat world of oncology research with its ethical and moral pitfalls while addressing the legal implications. Add to that the difficult and often heartbreaking world of foster care and Putnam gives readers two stellar but still human characters for whom they can care deeply. She breaks my heart more than once, but then offers me a glimpse of hope. Even then she didn’t tie up loose ends in a neat little bow. Because, I suspect, she knows life isn’t like that. Highly recommended for lovers of legal romantic suspense.

I've been wanting to read some of Putman's work for years. This wasn't the best introduction.
This obviously involves characters the author expected me to know from other books. Which I haven't read.
Some of the romantic drama, I just didn't get.
However, I found the mystery and the law talk extremely interesting.
I'll be reading more by this author. I just need to figure out what order to read her books in.

This is really a 3.5 star review for me. Here's the big thing I like about this book and this author - you can read a suspense/mystery book without a single curse word. The story itself is interesting, and I'll admit the science part went some over my head. The idea behind this book is scary, especially for those of us who depend on clinical trial for the next good medicine to combat whichever disease we may have. Cara Putman always writes in an extremely tasteful manner. My only negative is I think I just liked her other books more....

If legal thrillers are your thing, then you have to read Lethal Intent by Cara Putman! Cara writes a thrilling story with plot twists that keep you guessing until the end who the bad guys are. She writes strong female characters who are fully supported by the men that love them. I highly recommend Lethal Intent for a thoroughly engrossing read.
So grab a pitcher of sweet tea and head to your favorite reading nook for a great read.

THOUGHTS
The first half of Lethal Intent had me nearly going crazy with wanting to throw the book out my window. Why?
Because this dear book was dull, boring, and very tortuous for the first 118 pages, there was way too much information, the details often went over my head because I haven’t researched or know anything about the cancers they discussed or the things they were doing to help the patients. Which for a thriller is not a good sign.
I won’t even start on the fact that one single mention of the Covid-19 pandemic being in the past nearly earned this book a one way ticket to the burn pit, nope, not going into that …
Now, after all that you may wonder that I gave 4 stars and that I finished the book since I was so against it … the reasons are many, really …
1. Cara Putman is a spectacular author whose romantic suspense novels are some of my favorite.
2. I read another of her books and didn’t like the beginning but loved the ending.
3. I wasn’t ready for a highly looked forward to book to not be what I wanted.
4. I don’t like giving up.
5. I loved the cover …
6. Foster kids.
I am a sucker for foster kids in stories, and man, oh, man! I loved seeing Brandon with his kids! I just loved the glimpses into that side of the story, I had to hold out to see what happened with his kids.
Am I glad I did? Yes!
Do I recommend Lethal Intent? Yes!
Am I missing something … ? Yes …
Past the 118th (or some page about there) I fell in love with the story, I can’t say I connected with Caroline as I found her very naive but I understood her more and didn’t dislike her.
The ending?! Well, I found it nearly made up for the bad beginning but not quite, so, this is a good book. Had the first half been anywhere near as good as the ending it would have been a wonderful book, alas it was not quite so.
If you are a fan of suspense pick yourself up a copy and you’ll find the ending to be spectacular and you’re likely to like the first half more than I did. 😉

I’ve read nearly all Cara Putman’s books, and certainly all featuring Caroline’s friends who appear in “Lethal Intent.” So, my expectations were high...and Putman’s absolutely met them! Exceeded, in fact.
I work in the tech/computer software/healthcare industries, so so much about “Lethal Intent”’s plot appealed to and in fact intrigued me. I’ve read a number of, granted, hypothetical yet still physician-written case studies on genetic testing, cancer, and other topics covered in the book—it felt like my job came to life in fiction!
The DC setting was epic as ever; I’ve not been in a few years, and suffice to say am now ready to go back, plus do a little exploring beyond my usual haunts. (I love having usual haunts...thanks, and hi, Dad. 😂😍🤙🏻)
Denouement did feel a tad quick; I would have enjoyed seeing motive explored just a bit further. Also, a few loose ends lend me hope that we will see these characters appear in a future read. However, both are small potatoes compared to all the good in this book. An excellent read.

Another outstanding offering from master romantic-legal-thriller storyteller Cara Putman. Having read the first three books in the Hidden Justice series, I was looking forward to reading this book with high expectations. I have to say it exceeded my expectations! This narrative is an unputdownable blend of suspense, romance, and faith. The engaging characters are likable and realistic. The twists and turns of the plot keep you guessing. The medical aspect of the story is fascinating and reflects extensive research. The foster care strand of the story is emotional, heartwarming, and a bit heart-wrenching. The faith element affirms the spiritual truths of hope and reliance on God in the midst of hard and trying circumstances. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Have you ever had a moment where right versus wrong lost its black-and-white contrast? - Caroline
What an incredible story! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I certainly would! The author takes the lawyer into the field of biomedical research and puts you, the reader, on the edge of your seat wondering what on earth could happen next...
Praecursoria is a research company that offers terrible hope to those who have none, that proverbial Hail Mary, for those that have no other choice medically speaking. Caroline is the lawyer tasked with keeping everything legal, working with the FDA, filing patents, etc. But when people start dying, files are missing, and threats are made she begins to wonder if she is helping at all. What is the impetus behind all this - helping people or making money??
Brandon is a former football star whose sole aim is to keep sibling groups together when they enter the foster system, hoping to find them a forever home together. Will Almost Home survive the endless changes the government is making or will these children lose contact with their siblings just like so many have?

You never know what to expect when you read an author that is new to you. But I have heard good things about Cara Putman for awhile so I finally took the plunge...and oh wow, I am glad I did! This book was so unique; it was medical thriller, it was legal thriller without the courtroom, and it was a suspenseful mystery all rolled into one. It had some romance in there but it did not induce gagging or eye rolling by yours truly so it must have been just the right amount 😁. The storyline was complex in that it dealt with medical jargon but I was only intrigued and never bored or bogged down by it all. It also dealt with aspects of the law (again, not boring), foster homes, and there were dead bodies at unexpected turns. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I had trouble narrowing down the suspects to just one person.
Characters and setting often make a book and Cara Putnam does a great job here. Her main characters as well as secondary characters all had distinct, fleshed out personalities. You will find yourself rooting for Caroline and Brandon (who I definitely connected to). I love a book that takes place in Virginia since that’s where I live.
Lastly, I loved the Christian elements in this book. The characters weren’t perfect but had a heart for God, serving, and striving to do what was right. Brandon’s heart for the foster children and Caroline’s empathy for others were clear in their actions and we all know that actions often speak louder than words.
As I mentioned before, this was my first Cara Putman book. But it most certainly will not be my last!

Lethal Intent is a edge of your seat thriller that will have reader needing to read the story and finish it right away because they might worry what will happen to the characters when they close the book.
Cara. C. Putman writing style and character development will pull readers in giving them characters to cheer and fall in love with. Her ability to explain medical information without slowing down the story which is impressive.
The story is fast pace but will keep readers hooked with author ability to tell a story that will pull at readers heart stings.

I got a little lost in the science weeds with this one, but the mystery was intense and the characters were lively. Borders on 3 3/4 stars for me.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable mix of legal drama and medical research in the fast-paced cancer therapy start-up world. Putman takes us into the labs, boardrooms and hospital wards to give us a first hand account of the urgency, the fear, and the excitement of the daily machinations of cancer trials. We get a view from the entrepreneurial CEO, the super smart scientist, the talented doctor, the patient trialist, and her carers.
Into this world we meet Caroline Bragg, a wily lawyer who is taking her first in-house corporate role at a cancer therapy startup. She knows her law but is new to the science and the particular requirements of the FDA who approve the cancer trials. Caroline is an excellent character. She's a bulldog when she needs to be when she's being pressured to take shortcuts but has a heart of gold with an extraordinary level of empathy for those who are suffering or experiencing difficult circumstances.
Caroline has recently started dating her best friend of many years, Brandon Lancaster. Brandon's very tall. He's a retired NFL pro with the Colts who had a pretty good career by all accounts. He's now using the moneys he made to do good things for foster kids having established a ranch-style getaway. One of the kids he fosters is in hospital undergoing a new cancer trial sponsored by Caroline's new company.
Brandon is an interesting character. He's assertive, extraordinarily kind and generous with his time and money, but has this really strong need to be needed. This comes from his childhood of abandonment and foster care. It surprised me that for someone so confident and successful plus loving the Lord he struggled with such insecurity. He has a wonderful insight into Caroline and knows how to bring out her best but at the same time I was often irritated by his insistence of needing to know everything that was going on in her world.
Much of the narrative revolves around Caroline and Brandon's relationship. In the background there was a lot going on with their respective jobs and the cancer trial. And then some unusual deaths start occurring to important people involved in the trial which lifts the tension and pace of the story. All of a sudden, Caroline's security is threatened as well as the future of her company. Who is behind all this mayhem and death?
Putman does a great job mixing the suspense with the complexity of new cancer therapies. Plus there's a lovely message of hope. Hope in the future, hope in individuals, hope due to smart doctors and scientists who can pivot quickly and hope in the deep love of two people who both experienced tremendous abandonment as children.

This is a remarkable, spell bounding medical thriller, I could not put down, with characters to root for and a situation that feels like it was ripped out of today’s headlines.
The author shares in an interview why it is important to make her books compelling. She states, “As a reader I find it critical that a story have some type of ticking time element to keep me engaged…. Readers want an experience that is outside their day-to-day. We want to feel and see things that are different and unique. This is even more so when we’re reading a mystery or suspense. So, keeping that sense of pacing and series of readers expectations at the forefront is critical to creating a mystery they can’t put down.”
I whole heartily agree! This author does a brilliant job of keeping the reader engaged, as the drama unfolds through characters you instantly care about. The topic is a very timely one as the medical world has been scrambling to create a vaccine to fight a virus that has impacted our planet. Main character attorney Caroline Bragg’s is a new hire medical counsel for Praecursoria, a company that is on the cutting-edge of genetic therapies to fight leukemia.
Brandon Lancaster is a famous athlete who is passionate about helping kids find a forever home. He has started a group home called Almost Home, to help siblings stay together until they can be adopted. Brandon has invested a large sum of money in the Praecursouria company hoping for a big pay out to help his group home.
When Caroline goes to work for this company, she must be extremely careful not to say anything to Brandon about her job because she did not want him to be accused of insider trading. This puts a strain on their relationship.
As the new kid on the block Caroline goes about trying to understand what this the company does. Caroline told Quentin, “…If she did not comprehend the depth of what happened in the lab, she could miss something important for the various trials and patent applications…There was something amazing about being part of a team that was pushing the envelope of what was possible. She’d gotten chills a few times as she’d met with different researchers.”
The author takes a subject that could put you to sleep but explains things in a manner that has you fully alert as Caroline digs into the process of her new company. Strange things are happening, and she must get to the bottom of it if they were to have things in order to be approved by the FDA. They were in a hurry to help sick kids get better.
I enjoyed this mysterious, medical suspense thriller, alongside characters I could root for as I watched their sweet romance bloom and grow. I highly recommend this novel for a fun read and one that would work well for your next book club pick.

So, keeping that sense of pacing and series of readers expectations at the forefront is critical to creating a mystery they can’t put down.”
I whole heartily agree! This author does a brilliant job of keeping the reader engaged, as the drama unfolds through characters you instantly care about. The topic is a very timely one as the medical world has been scrambling to create a vaccine to fight a virus that has impacted our planet. Main character attorney Caroline Bragg’s is a new hire medical counsel for Praecursoria, a company that is on the cutting-edge of genetic therapies to fight leukemia.
Brandon Lancaster is a famous athlete who is passionate about helping kids find a forever home. He has started a group home called Almost Home, to help siblings stay together until they can be adopted. Brandon has invested a large sum of money in the Praecursouria company hoping for a big pay out to help his group home.
When Caroline goes to work for this company, she must be extremely careful not to say anything to Brandon about her job because she did not want him to be accused of insider trading. This puts a strain on their relationship.
As the new kid on the block Caroline goes about trying to understand what this the company does. Caroline told Quentin, “…If she did not comprehend the depth of what happened in the lab, she could miss something important for the various trials and patent applications…There was something amazing about being part of a team that was pushing the envelope of what was possible. She’d gotten chills a few times as she’d met with different researchers.”
The author takes a subject that could put you to sleep but explains things in a manner that has you fully alert as Caroline digs into the process of her new company. Strange things are happening, and she must get to the bottom of it if they were to have things in order to be approved by the FDA. They were in a hurry to help sick kids get better.
I enjoyed this mysterious, medical suspense thriller, alongside characters I could root for as I watched their sweet romance bloom and grow. I highly recommend this novel for a fun read and one that would work well for your next book club pick.

First of I want to say a huge thank you to Partners in Crime Tours as well as to the publisher Thomas Nelson--FICTION, the author Cara C. Putman and NetGalley for inviting me to join the blog tour for this book as well as letting me read and review it. Because of them I was introduce to a new author and found a book that was a mixture of legal thriller as well as medical thriller, and other thing is how surprised I was that I actually enjoyed it a lot more then I thought I would because in the past I tried to read Christian mysterious before and just couldn't do it, I just couldn't enjoy the story or even get past the first couple of chapters, but with this one I had no problem at all. Here is just some of the things I liked about the story

I raced through this book because it was so intense and compelling. With characters that jumped off the page into my heart, the author did a stellar job of writing a medical-legal-romantic suspense that had all of the elements of each one, twisted together into a complicated plot. Caroline Bragg is the strong female protagonist, a newly hired lawyer for the oncology research lab Praecursoria. She is developing a romantic relationship with Brandon Lancaster, a former pro-football star who owns and operates a home for foster children. The two have a relationship that conflicts with the research of P. because the lab wants to use one of the children there for their experimental treatment. Bethany, the little girl, tugged at my heartstrings since she was already suffering from not having her biological parents and then is diagnosed with a deadly case of leukemia. A further complication to the plot is that Brandon has invested a lot of his money in the science lab and needs a solid return to keep Almost Home open. This was a book that broke my heart, had tears flowing freely and had me turning pages as fast as I could to find out if the arrogant, seemingly heartless heads of the research lab would ultimately be caught in a nefarious scheme or if they really were working for the good of the children involved in their study. By the time I reached the ending, I was totally wrung out, issued a deep sigh and continued to think about what I had just read. This is a book that will stay with me for a long time because of its deep themes of ethics in medicine and corporate secrets. Fans of legal thrillers will want to set aside time to read this book quickly because you will not want to put it down.

Lethal Intent by Cara Putman is the author’s newest legal thriller and is quite the unnerving, suspenseful ride. From the fast-paced of Caroline’s job working for an up-and-coming medical tech company to the secretive and borderline unethical workings of the science behind it all, you will be intrigued and motivated to keep turning page after page.
Caroline’s story is one that is important for our day. Being a voice of reason and moral conviction in a world greedily wanting more at all costs, she stands for more than the ethics she learned in a lecture--but for the general code by which we should treat others every day. I may have been frustrated with how she treated her boyfriend, Brandon, a few times and her inability to be completely honest/open with him, but I understand how her background and her worry over ethics related to her job would also affect her relationship with Brandon.
Brandon is a rock (and a hunk)--and not just as a defensive lineman on the field. I loved how he kept giving back, even after his big paychecks were long gone. His soft heart, and his ability to see Caroline for who she really was under all her pain and fear, endeared me to him. He is a fighter for all who feel helpless, and a champion for the unconditional love of God.
Overall, I enjoyed this story, but I will admit to really getting hooked in the second half. If you love legal suspense, this book will satisfy your cravings! Happy reading!

A story you won't soon forget. Caroline's life is good, her and Brandon are taking their relationship to the next level. Caroline's dream job as legal council at a cutting edge oncology lab takes a turn when they want to do treatments on a little girl in Brandon's foster home. Things get tense for Caroline and Brandon. Being Brandon is an investor in the lab. He needs the profits to help run his foster home. This was heartbreaking and emotional. A deep look inside the pharmaceutical industry. Treatments and trials and just how far they will go. There aren't many medical thrillers and I like them. This made me cry. I read it in one sitting.
